Wrestlemania Opening & Main Event: Wrestlemania XXVII

Wrestlemania Opening and Main Event: Wrestlemania XXVII Before we start with the new project we must continue with the old one. Luckily the “main events” opened and closed the show so I kill two birds with one stone. Overall I don’t think this card will be remembered as one of the better ones. There was a terrific Punk-Orton match that most people will agree on. The Michael Cole stuff was fine until he actually went over. More or less I find that the people who like the card thought Undertaker-HHH was great and the ones that didn’t like the match didn’t like the card.

The SmarK Countdown: Wrestlemania

(2012 Scott sez:  Welcome to the WRESTLEMANIA COUNTDOWN!  Since Wrestlemania as an event has been blessed with so many re-rants from me over the years, I’ll include the redone versions in each post to speed things up.  I’m also dispatching with saying “2012 Scott sez” because it takes forever to type and I’m sure you figure out that the bold italic comments are new.  Unless you’re stupid, in which case I can’t help you.) The Netcop Retro Rant for Wrestlemania. - Okay, they’re here, so please stop bugging me now. Over the next month, we’re gonna cover all 15, so you might wanna pull up a pillow or something and get comfortable. (Oh, the days when there was only 15 shows to go through when doing a countdown.) - Live from New York, New York, the city so ugly they had to name it twice. Original airdate March 31, 1985.

Fantasy Booking Is...

Hey Scott, You know I love fantasy-booking, and came up with the card below about a week ago. It's not based 100% on current storylines, but instead just based on the roster that seemed available at the time (including Shaq's rumored involvement). If you could post this, it'd be much appreciated. /// WWE TITLE Cena (c) vs. Rock [Story = Punk drops the title to Ziggler at "Royal Rumble", and Ziggler drops the title to Cena in the "Elimination Chamber". I realize that some people think that this match doesn't "need" the title, but I'm of the belief that the biggest match on the card should be for the title, and vice-versa; if the champion isn't, kayfabe, the best wrestler, then why are they champion?] WORLD TITLE Bryan (c) vs. Punk [Story = Bryan is bullied by Henry, and cashes-in the MITB-contract as revenge; he then remains a face, successfully defending against giants like Henry, Show, and Khali. Elsewhere, Punk loses the title to ...

Kicked In The Nuts, Legally Speaking

http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/46567777/ns/sports-other_sports/ How do you feel about this?  In my mind there’s no way the courts would open up a can of worms this big.  This would mean Rock could sue Cena for defamation of character for the “notes on the arm” comment.  Even Clarence Mason would be foolish to take this case. I didn’t see Jerry Lawler running to the court system when Tommy Rich accidentally ruptured HIS testicle.  And under this precedent, Ric Flair would be in jail for life given how many nutshots he’s dished out over the years.  There’s no way this even goes to court.  It’s just a wrestler trying some carny bullshit and making everyone else in the profession look like assholes.

Monday Nitro - October 7, 1996

Monday Nitro #56 Date: October 7, 1996 Location: Savannah Civic Center, Savannah, Georgia Attendance: 4,300 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Eric Bischoff, Larry Zbyszko, Bobby Heenan, Mike Tenay Reviewed by Tommy Hall Please let this be more interesting than last week. I don't think I can take another one of those shows. This is another build to the Halloween Havoc PPV show and hopefully we'll get some followup on the Liz in the NWO hotel room stuff from last week. The main event is Flair vs. Savage (it's been a few months so I don't mind as much) and another Benoit vs. Steiner match for some reason. Let's get to it.

Mailbag, Bret Hart Edition

I think Prime Bret Hart would've been a great face for the current PG WWE. Men respect him, kids deified him, and while he didn't do it well as Shawn, chicks digged him enough. He can work all styles, and he can even do effective PG versions of anything-goes matches. His previous "weakness" with promos and sports entertainment segments is now (thanks to Shawn, Jericho, and Undertaker) not only no longer a liability, but a great asset. Instead of trying to create a PG Austin or Rock, they should be looking for the next Bret Hart. Yeah, if Bret Hart of 1985 had come up through the developmental system today, he’d be more likely to be a Husky Harris, given a look based on his family, but given up on because of his lack of talking skills and unimpressive physique.  These days, if someone doesn’t blossom 2 months after their callup, they’re toast.  I think Daniel Bryan fits the mold of a Bret Hart type pretty well, actually, as the master ring technician who can get hims...

Wrestlemania Questions

Hey Scott. Some thoughts, and some questions. 1)Everyone is bitching about The Rock being on the card at WrestleMania. This is because they view him as an old wrestler coming back and taking a spot. But really The Rock is more of a celebrity than a former wrestler. I actually look at this more along the lines of Mayweather's WrestleMania match, than having say Jimmy Snuka (Tamina is his daughter) return for a high-profile match this year. Yeah, but Rock’s doing another couple of matches over the next year, so it’s hard to classify him as a celebrity, exactly.  Still, the people bitching are clearly wrong. 2)Do you think this will be Undertaker's last year? Reaching 20-0 is an achievement no one will ever come close to, but they will probably try and milk The Streak till he's dead. I’m sure that as long as Undertaker can go a year between matches to rest up, he’ll be fine for a while.  3)Vince has always really only cared about the Main Event. However, I still think t...

Cena/Rock Quickies

Scott, I see a lot of debate over the victor of the WM main. Doesn't Rock *have* to win in order to ensure a rematch (which has already been signed for WM29)? He's questioning Cena's status as top-man, so in essence he's the challenger. Rock has to win for their roles to be reversed next year... Or am I looking at this wrong? Wait, who said it was already signed for WM29?  And you’d have to think that Cena is going over to make the whole endeavour worthwhile. Hey Scott-- I couldn't help but notice that on many of the blogs and forums last night, a ton of people were talking about the legitimacy of the Rock/Cena promo. By that, I mean people were making arguments that Rock purposely wrote jokes on his wrist that would be called out by John Cena (as a work). I cannot help but disagree with this, knowing that Rock takes a great deal of pride in his reputation. Also, I couldn't help but notice that The Rock seemed legitimately upset at Cena's remarks, to the ...

Raw and Smackdown Swap GMs

Source This is the announcement that they talked about the Board of Directors making last night. I'm not really sure what this changes but it's something different. Edit: Apparently this is just for a week, which I didn't realize when I made this. So much for this meaning anything. Thoughts on this?

Can’t Stop The Rock

Two rock related questions: 1.  My friends and I have been debating the Rock lately.  One point of contention is that I claim he main-evented 5 wrestlemania's in a row, my friend claims only 3.  WM 15-17 are obvious, but at 18 his match was clearly the most important (since he and hogan are on the poster) and even Jericho and HHH admit it should have been last.  WM 19, while the Austin-Rock match wasn't quite as blow-away the main event as Rock-Hogan, Jericho refers to it as the main event on the Austin DVD and and JR says the only reason it didn't go last was because nobody was sure about Austin's health after the previous night.  So what say you, did he main event 3 in a row, or 5? Clearly the main event of 18 was Hogan v. Rock, but 19 was either Hogan v. Vince or Angle v. Lesnar depending on your point of view.  Rock v. Austin was a distant third either way, so that would be four Wrestlemanias in a row by my watch.  2.  I've heard for years...
