More Brock!

More Brock?! Of course! That's all anyone is going to talk about until... oh... his contract runs out.

My idea on how to save this is completely out there, and will never happen as long as the WWE is PG. But there is a way to salvage this mess (and it's not by having Brock just destroy Cena tonight. He still lost, which removes his "mystique").

Tonight, have Triple H come out, and reveal that John Cena has tested positive for PEDs. Have him bring out Cena, who ADMITS to using them, says he was facing a man who was trying to destroy the business he loves, and he could not chance losing to Brock Lesnar. Triple H suspends him indefinitely and the decision from last night is reversed. From there, you have Brock Lesnar tear apart everything put in front of him, until the roster, the fans, and even Johnny Ace are begging for Cena's reinstatement to "save" the company. After a particularly heinous attack, Triple H reinstates Cena, but only under the provision that he must be drug-tested WEEKLY before his fight with Lesnar.

From there, you either go Rocky 3 (Cena falls to Lesnar, but builds himself back up, learns from his mistakes, and sees the holes Brock leaves and exploits them to get the victory), or you go straight to Cena getting the win by sheer force of will, proving that the drugs weren't needed, that he had it in himself to do it all along, and all he needed to do was believe in himself (and all the Cenamaniacs, brother!).

As it stands now, even if Brock decimates Cena tonight, he's just a chickenshit heel who has to jump someone to get the upper-hand, and chokes when put into big match situations. Cena testing positive gives Brock a reason he can point to why he lost, and puts doubt in the minds of the fans on whether Cena could have done it without the PEDs. Since Cena will be off TV, WWE won't get any flack for Cena "using", though Cena might get some minor backlash. That's easy enough to rectify with the right booking. With all of that said, it'll never happen. It's too risky and risque for WWEPG, so I expect the "Hogan gets beaten down, only to come back months later to re-vanquish the beast he already vanquished, but this time ALL THE WAY, BROTHER!" storyline. Which isn't going to help anybody in the long run.

Although WWE might not be making bank off Brock now, my blog certainly is, so fuck yeah we’re gonna keep talking about him.  Besides, people were just bitching about having a lack of non-Invasion and non-Montreal stuff to talk about, so I’m more than happy to ride this horse into the ground.

The PED thing is certainly a storyline that would hit close to home, and actually would probably hit TOO close to home considering the embarrassment that the Benoit thing was for them, and the jittery sponsors they’ve got.  Man, it would sure be gutsy though, and definitely it would allow Vince to shove it in UFC’s face.  The question I would ask, however, is that since Vince doesn’t listen to Wrestling Observer Live (aka “What Alistair Overeem Had For Breakfast Today In Detail: The Musical”), would he be hip enough to craft a storyline around the troubles that Dana White is having at the moment?  Although really, Rocky IV did the storyline already, so it’s fair game from that standpoint.  I really like it, though.

  1. Okay, we are officially in brain explosion mode in the IWC, and I have to take a stand and think that this is JUST TOO MUCH.

    STOP.

Seriously. Stop overthinking this. You guys are growing tumors over this stuff.

It's perfect where they seem to be headed....HHH is gonna call out Johnny Ass and ask him about the contract negotiation, and why he let Brock walk all over him like that. HHH is not going to name Raw "Starring Brock Lesnar", and this infuriates Brock to the point that he destroys HHH and Johnny Ass plays along with it to keep his spot.

THERE. Now go read a book.

  2. So basically, you guys want the face of WWE, the ones that kids cheer for and parents buy the merchandise, to come out and admit that he's a drug user?

    That's freaking stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yup. If WWE is too scared of having Cena lose to somebody they're paying $5 million for, there is no way they would have him come out and basically tell everyone that he is a bad role model for kids.

    ReplyDelete
  4. LOL, Cena admitting he took steroids. I can't imagine a WORSE thing for the WWE.

That would be a great discussion - what would be worse than that for the WWE? Cena dropping N-bombs on Booker T? Cena punching a little girl in the face? Cena getting arrested for cocaine posession?

  5. I think @SethMates hit it on the head on Twitter today....we're getting Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar, whether we want it or not.

  6. On a semi-different Brock-related discussion, did they alter his attire?  When the images were leaked on WWE.com, didn't his shorts have patches of his sponsors on them?  And they made a big deal about how Lesnar was the first Superstar to have a deal where he could have sponsors?  Looking at the photos from WWE.com, it doesn't look like there were patches on his shorts.  And the new image they use for his Superstar page is the same as the leaked photo, just without the sponsors.  Did something change?

  7. Agreed, Cena admitting to PEDs is an even worse move than having him go over Brock.

  8. Bless his heart, HHH seems to be doing a decent job as De Facto Vince...

That said, if he puts out this flame like he almost did Punk...that'd just be inexcusable.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was there, you could see the Sponsorship on his pads.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Okay.  I didn't know if they maybe edited them out of the photos on WWE.com.  I didn't see the show.

  11. I usually don't comment on fantasy booking stuff, but this is the worst idea I've ever heard and will never happen.

  12. This works from a storyline standpoint but is really really bad from a buisness/publicity standpoint. Given the bad history of WWE and drug abuse I think the bad outweigh the good as far as this storyline goes. There isn't anything to fix what was done at Extreme Rules.

  13. Am I the only person SERIOUSLY stoked for Brock/HHH?

For me, it's Brock's #1 dream match-up. He already worked programs with Rock, Cena, and Taker (twice). Punk has got the Heyman connection, but that doesn't feel compelling to me.

For the most part Brock was kept away from HHH in his first run. Add HHH's shit talking over the years and I am dying to see it. I just hope they don't go TOO insider on us (coughPunkNashHHHcough). But yeah, a feud with that much real life animosity? Sign me up!

  14. I just watched the PPV and I don't get it. I don't want to sound like an old ROH-bot, but I feel like the storyline they did with Morishima would have been *perfect* for Brock. Morishima came in and beat Samoa Joe in a hard fought match (Joe was seen as the face of ROH at the time), destroyed ROH champ Homicide for the championship, had an intense and awesome feud with Danielson that totally changed Danielson from a heel to a face and finally the other awesome worker on the roster, Nigel, fought to his last to win.

The story was Morishima, the killer monster, beat all of ROH's best and a new star was made in the process. There's no reason the WWE couldn't tweak that a bit and have Cena open the story by getting destroyed and taking some time off, have Brock destroy the best of the rest, and Cena comes back to beat Brock and save the WWE.

I know when I was a kid the goofy angle Earthquake crushed Hogan and put him in the hospital was awesome. I *hated* Hogan as a kid and even I was chomping at the bit to see him come back and stop Earthquake.

I don't want to fantasy book anything...I'm just saying the storylines are already there ripe for the picking! I can't believe the WWE can mess up golden gooses that fall into their lap so badly. For all the faults, this is why I watch indy wrestling. Yes, ROH can be stale and the roster is thin and yes, Dragon Gate/EVOLVE/whatever has its share of problems, but at least the stories make sense. I don't walk away feeling frustrated.

  15. "There isn't anything to fix what was done at Extreme Rules."

Most people laud the booking that allowed Hogan to hold the WCW title for almost 18 months before the anticipated match with Sting. Had this blog existed back then can you imagine the outcry over Luger beating Hogan on Nitro in the middle of that reign, only to lose it back to him 6 days later? There would've been 4 threads started in a span of 30 minutes all titled "MORE on Luger/Hogan".

You probably would've been on here bitching about that pointless title swap, since it will devalue Sting's eventual win (which everyone knew was coming by that point). I mean, what's the big deal about getting the title from the nWo when Lex Luger can do it on a random episode of Nitro in August?

My point is, let this play out. You can't give up on this angle after 1 match.

  17. I know what you mean...but to speak the truth, it's kind of exciting. I haven't seen anyone this engaged in the product over the past few months in years. It's a good thing.

  18. That's exactly the argument that was made at the time. And it's still true.

I was just wondering whether the news of Cena sustaining injuries from the Lesnar match is another attempt by creative to run a fake injury storyline like they have just done with Beth Phoenix. I don't doubt that Cena has nagging injuries that he could use with some time off for but the reports about him injuring his left arm I bet are false with Cena doing an admiral job of selling it at the end of Extreme Rules.
Plus the reports made a big deal out of him being busted open which they never really did back before the PG era. Usually he goes all Super Cena and shrugs any harm done to him during the match off but the way he sold his arm made him more compelling and it felt similar to the Undertaker and Triple H match from Wrestlemania 27 where even though Taker won the match he seemed worse off for it. Lesnar beat him from pillar to post with Cena getting the odd bit of small offence here and there, and also needed to use a chain and steel steps to finish him off, whilst Lesnar didn't really use any weapons apart from creatively using Cena's chain to tie him up with. They need to make it similar to Triple H/Taker with build up being Lesnar boasting they he put Cena out using his bare hands, whilst Cena got the fluke win over him using weapons.

  21.  It was a pointless title switch to pop a rating on Nitro and to try to keep some air of unpredictibility.

What happened last night is so unique and so different than anything that has come before that you can't really draw parallels except to the territory days when guys would move on and the new heel in town would get instant heat by beating said wrestler.  Then, down the road, the face would return to the territory to avenge their victory and send the heel packing.  But hey, Vince, got us, he outsmarted us smarks...hope he's proud.

Wow... Storm pretty much nails this spot on.

  24. I love Lance and respect his opinion and he's saying something similar to what Jabber's been posting, the WWE hedged their bets by getting a loss under Brock's belt.

However, Lance did say that if he was booking, he would've had Brock go over.

    ReplyDelete
  25. There are so many posts and comments on the finish, I'm not even gonna try and wade through them all. I would have put Brock over too, but like Lance says, there is more than one way to skin a cat. It's certainly not the disaster some people are making it out to be.

  26. Um, morishima lost his match against Samoa Joe.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Storm's suggestions for the next few months of booking are sensible and would do much for gaining Brock's heat back (I only say 'lost heat' because he lost the match and drifted into the back while Cena got to do the 'hi mom' and thank you speech to the WWE Universe).

On RAW tonight i'd still like for Cena to echo what he said last night (this time to the larger RAW audience) saying hes taking time off for nagging injuries that were worsened by the grueling match last night. Then Brock comes out and beats the shit out of him "for real" and we dont see Cena for at least 3 months. It adds intrigue to the Summerslam rematch and then the tiebreaker at Wrestlemania next year. As it stands now Brock just looks like a loser.

The bottom line is Brock should have beat Cena down after that match last night, if you absolutely had to make him job, which I still dont think he should have.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ^^ It being a given that Brock destroys everything and everyone in the time Cena has off to try and get back his heat and try to give some kind of a decent number to the Summerslam rematch.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The flame may have been put out last night.

It'd actually be an AWESOME angle if Brock knocks out Cena and then Triple H tries to swoop in to save the WWE...and fails.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I had just assumed, based on how they were diffusing Lesnar by turning him into a prima donna, that Vince figured it was safer to beat him now. It's easy enough for Brock to come out tonight and say Cena didn't really beat him without help and sure doesn't look like the winner.

    ReplyDelete
  31.  I dunno, I'd have liked Miz a lot more if at the Slammys that one time he'd given Angry Miz Girl the SCF.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The only upside to Cena winning is this: since Cena already got the win and tarnished Brock a little bit, it will sting slightly less when, inevitably, HHH goes over him clean.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd be stoked for it, as long as they realize that they shouldn't be adding any stipulations like "Triple H must win or he gives up his job as COO," etc. Because that ALWAYS leads to Triple H overcoming the odds to keep his job.

As long as they stay away from the stupid stipulations, I'll be happy to watch Brock-Trips.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think, at the heart of all of this, we need to be able to agree to disagree.

I disagree with you about his flame being put out last night...I think this makes Brock's character that much more dangerous and unpredictable....and THAT will sell tickets.

If his next opponent is HHH, and Brock goes down again...that would be money not well spent.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd like to see Brock murder HHH, yes. I also consider it a dream match and think HHH cutting promos on Brock in the run-up will be awesome.

It should start with Brock killing both HHH and Cena tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What a poignant youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzSRA-dGlTg

John Cena telling A-Train about how he should get revenge on Lesnar for nearly ending his career,  nearly a decade before A-Train would defeat Cena who would then go on to defeat Lesnar while suffering the biggest physical beating of his own career.  I smell a huge triple-threat, doggs.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh wow. I didn't realize that. I haven't watched that series of shows in years. But Shima absolutely destroyed Homicide who was booked super strong for months prior to that.

Joe was also on his way out of the promotion, too. I'm sure that factored into it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'd watch those three things you list, though, at this point. I might be a bad person.
