The SmarK RAW SUPERSHOW STARRING BROCK LESNAR Rant – 04.30.12
The pre-show highlights of Cena’s interview last night seem to show him with a weird skin condition that turns him into the Grey Hulk.
Live from Dayton, OH
Your hosts are Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler
Big Johnny starts us out, as he has revolutionized the sport in ONE NIGHT, thanks to Brock Lesnar and People Power. This brings out Brock, but before he can read his lines, they’re interrupted by COOHHH. He’s doing what Johnny doesn’t have the guts to do, taking away all of Brock’s contract demands (apparently the name of the show has always been “Monday Night RAW” despite them calling it “RAW Supershow” for more than six months now) and tearing up the new contract because there was no authority to grant any of it. So HHH offers him the chance to take his ball and go home and reminds us that he lost to Cena last night. Johnny tries to stand up for Brock, but Lesnar takes matters into his own hands and beats on HHH, putting him in a kimura until the babyfaces make the save. So there’s your Over The Limit main event.
Eve announces that tonight will feature the good old Beat The Clock challenges for the title shot at CM Punk. I always like these because at least people are in competition for something.
Beat the Clock: The Miz v. Santino Marella
And here comes the 50/50 booking. Santino takes Miz down for a couple of covers, but Miz slugs him down and follows with a kneelift for two. Miz comes back with a rollup for two, but Miz gets a neckbreaker for two. Miz with the corner clothesline and he goes up with a double axehandle for two and pounds him down for two. He goes to the chinlock, which even Lawler sees as a bad move in a timed match, but Santino makes the comeback with a stungun to set up the Cobra. It misses and Miz rolls him up for two, but it’s reversed for two. Miz finishes with the Finale at 4:19. This was fine. **
Divas title: Layla v. Nikki Bella v. Brie Bella
The Bellas turn on each other and Layla rolls one of them up for the pin at 0:10. Must make them feel good to get 10 seconds like that.
Beat the Clock: Chris Jericho v. Big Show
Show pounds away in the corner and gets a slam for two, but Jericho dropkicks the knee for two. Jericho goes up and gets chopped on the way down, but Show misses a pump splash. Lionsault gets two. Jericho tries the Walls, but Show reverses to a rollup for two. Jericho stomps him down, but Show gets a spear for two. Jericho tries the codebreaker, but Show powers out of it, and they tumble to the floor. Jericho beats the count, but doesn’t beat the clock. Or maybe he does, I’m not really clear on it. Just a match. *1/2
Brodus Clay v. JTG
And we’re back to this for Clay. Usual squash for Brodus at 1:38, and then kids from the audience dance with him.
Another look at the Cena promo from the end of Extreme Rules. And then for a THIRD time, we get the HHH-Brock segment from earlier tonight.
Beat the Clock: Randy Orton v. Jack Swagger
Orton gets a quick rollup, then survives a beating in the corner and rolls him up again. Swaggerbomb gets two. Orton reverses the powerbomb into a backbreaker for two, but Swagger clips the knee for two. Swagger slugs away in the corner and starts working on the arm, and SHOOTS THE HALF for two. Vince would be so proud. Orton makes the comeback with the powerslam and draping DDT, and he wastes time with the RKO dance, allowing Swagger to get the anklelock. Orton escapes and gets the RKO at 4:16 to set the new time. Another rushed, junky match. *1/2
WWE tag titles: Primo & Epico v. Kofi Kingston & R-Truth
In a shocking development, the Bella Twins have been fired on WWE.com during this match. So last night they swerved the people who would know Kharma was coming back, but try to pretend like those same people wouldn’t know that the Bellas contract was expiring? Truth dumps the champs and we take a break. Back with the champs double-teaming Truth in the corner and Primo gets a dropkick for two. Primo stomps him down for two, but walks into a leg lariat and it’s hot tag Kofi. Boomdrop for Epico and the wacky kick wins the titles at 6:29. Shouldn’t this have been Santino & Ryder getting the title shot after last week? Whatever, no one cares about the titles anyway. **
Meanwhile, AW confronts Epico & Primo, but we don’t find out the result of the conversation. That, by the way, was the only thing actually promoted beforehand on this show, so of course they don’t pay it off.
Beat the Clock: Kane v. The Great Khali
Khali pounds him in the corner, but Kane dropkicks the knee and pounds him down for two. Kane with a chinlock on the mat and the flying clothesline for two. Kane aimlessly pounds away as Lawler says “crunch time” about a dozen times. Khali gets the chop to send Kane running and they choke each other out as the clock runs out. Absolutely terrible. -*
Beat the Clock: Daniel Bryan v. Jerry Lawler
Well that’s random. Was Zack Ryder busy fixing his hair? Bryan slugs away in the corner and gets the corner dropkick for two. King fires back, but Bryan gets a snapmare for two. He drops knees for two. Lawler comes back with the dropkick for two and dodges a charging Bryan, and it’s fistdrop time for two. Piledriver is reversed and Bryan kicks his head off and finishes with the YES LOCK to earn the title shot. I may have to order that PPV now, although they’re gonna need a hell of a main event above that.
Once again, let’s watch the Brock Lesnar attack on HHH from earlier tonight. HHH has a broken arm, but he can still hold down the midcard with his good arm. But will he ever crotch-chop again?
John Cena is still here, albeit with a sling on his arm while he cracks jokes. Big Johnny comes out to announce Cena’s opponent for the PPV, and Cena guesses Zeus to commemorate the release of No Holds Barred on DVD. Big Johnny notes that Cena should be thanking him for trying to motivate him. Cena does a pretty good impression of Big Johnny, and we learn that Cena’s opponent is Big Johnny himself. Uh…OK then. Lord Tensai comes out and further injures the arm, and Ace attacks for the heel beatdown. I’m calling this one as the new champion of lowest buyrate in the modern era right now.
The Pulse
Wow, that show pretty much siphoned off any excitement I had remaining after last night’s awesome show. Cena beats the unbeatable monster and doesn’t even take a night off, moving on to face retired wrestler Johnny Ace. That’s just great. Overall, a whole lot of crappy wrestling setting up a main event that no one wants to see on a PPV that no one is going to watch. Hope the $5 million for Brock was worth it.
Random: http://ibnlive.in.com/news/wwe-extreme-rules-2012-cena-beats-lesner/253451-2.html
ReplyDeleteHHH: "You see John, you offered that contract, but that contract was not a good contract and you know that all contracts have to go through me and this contract needs my approval. And John? I will not be approving this contract."
ReplyDeleteMe: "Oh, BURN."
"I may have to order that PPV now, although they’re gonna need a hell of a main event above that."
ReplyDelete"Overall, a whole lot of crappy wrestling setting up a main event that no
one wants to see on a PPV that no one is going to watch. Hope the $5
million for Brock was worth it."
= The live thread condensed into three sentences.
G'nigh guys!
THEY HAVE CENA BEAT LESNAR SO THEY CAN MOVE HIM ONTO A FEUD WITH JOHNNY ACE AND TENSAI! WTF!!!!
ReplyDeleteI’m calling this one as the new champion of lowest buyrate in the modern era right now
ReplyDeleteDon't underestimate the power of Punk v. Bryan!
I enjoyed this show. The crowd heat helped and the only truly bad match was Kane/Khali of course. And really, any show that sets up a CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan PPV match can't be all that bad. They covered themselves well enough for Lesnar not showing up in the next month or two.
ReplyDeleteAs for Cena and Ace? Better than having Tensai or another random heel get beat by him again. And really, the May PPVs never get high buyrates. In fact, with the WWE title match I wouldn't be surprised if an online movement happens to make sure more people order the show than usual.
Over the Limit is here in Raleigh, so I may pick up a ticket, but they better fill out the rest of the show with a hell of a card to counteract Cena-Ace.
ReplyDelete"So last night they swerved the people who would know Kharma was coming back, but try to pretend like those same people wouldn’t know that the Bellas contract was expiring?"
ReplyDeleteWell, they have to make sure us internet geeks stay in our place...until it's time to spend money.
Man, it sounds like this show sucked. Good thing BBC America has new episodes of Top Gear on.
ReplyDeleteOk, I defended the Cena finish last night after (stupidly) thinking that he was going to sell a beating and disappear for a while. A match with Johnny after they've been sort-of feuding for three weeks was not what I had in mind... FAIL! It's also clear that a Cena losing streak angle would've been 1,000 times better than this.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the buyrate for the next event, all the Internet fans better order this one because a low number won't be blamed on Cena/Laurinaitis, that's for sure!
YES! YES! YES!
ReplyDelete"As far as the buyrate for the next event, all the Internet fans better order this one because a low number won't be blamed on Cena/Laurinaitis, that's for sure!"
ReplyDeleteAnd you know that's the intent here. It's actually fiendishly clever.
So we're just definitely assuming there's no way they'd put Punk/Bryan as the main event then?
ReplyDeleteI mean, I know they've been acting like Cena > Punk a lot lately but come on. We want them to treat Punk especially as a main eventer, particularly when he has the title, but even Scott doesn't think Punk VS Bryan for the WWE title is a worthy main event. Maybe the casuals that make up most of their fanbase won't see it as such, but if even the smarks don't view it as a worthy enough match for them, then why are we even bothering wanting to see Punk pushed?
It's a worthy enough match for me.
How about we wait till the actual buyrate comes out?
ReplyDelete"So we're just definitely assuming there's no way they'd put Punk/Bryan as the main event then?"
ReplyDeleteOh, Kyle.
I feel for ya, Kyle. It is definitely worthy in my eyes, too. And I actually think with good mic time and solid build, it would be more than worthy for the fans. I mean, c'mon, it won't be Kane vs Cena! The problem is they probably aren't going to give these two the time to tell a really good story and build up the match properly. I would like to seem them both conspire to make everyone else on the roster look silly by letting loose their full awesomeness.
ReplyDeleteSerious question, where did I miss this "Everyone knows Kharma is definitely ready to come back to a full time schedule" thing? I hoped it would be Kharma when I heard mystery opponent but I had heard absolutely nothing to suggest she was definitely ready to return full time. Yet when we didn't get Kharma, suddenly everyone is acting like it was announced Kharma's totally ready to come back full time and they were just trying to swerve us. Where did this information come from? I assumed she's not in the right state of mind yet to come back full time. That's why she had the one off at the Rumble...if she was actually ready, I would have thought we'd already have gotten Beth VS Kharma at WM or announced for Extreme Rules.
ReplyDeleteI think people are just making assumptions. WWE sometimes does shit just to swerve us (I'm pretty convinced the Matt Hardy over Christian thing was for that reason), but I haven't seen anything at all to suggest Kharma is ready to return, just speculation and nothing else based on a "mystery opponent". And the fact that they openly said "It's not Kharma" shortly before seems to imply they WEREN'T trying to swerve us.
Since everyone is moving here, I'll just re-post my last comment since it's apropo:
ReplyDeleteThey basically moved Punk's spot vs. Johnny to Cena. It was Punk who
had the issues with Ace and vice versa. Remember all of those, "I'm
going to make your life miserable Punk." Wasn't Johnny wanting a
corporate champion and not Punk? We never got a proper blow off to that
feud and now they just slotted Cena in his spot.
I recall the Kane-Cena main event at Elimination Chamber doing one of
the worse buyrates in history and now, we're headed to a Johnny-Cena
main event with a heatless Albert instead of just putting Brock over
last night, sending Cena home for some much needed rest and making
Punk-Brock the main event at OTL.
What a mess.
And although I love Punk-Bryan, Punk-Lesnar intrigued me even more because it's a fresh match up.
That sort of evil sounds like something Fox News would do, not an affiliate of CNN. Get your shit together, Indian newspeople.
ReplyDeleteAnd again I say, how about we wait till the actual damn show happens before we assume anything?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I watched the show in about 30 minutes via DVR. Good thing I had tickets to the Heat-Knicks game, that was much more fun.
ReplyDeleteA dude named Curry commenting on something Indian. Awesome! In Soviet Russia, Curry talks about Indians!
ReplyDeleteYou're winning the "top commenters" battle. We get it. Enough already.
ReplyDeleteKane-Cena on top did the worst buyrate in forever. Ace-Cena on top? I don't think it's a bad guess to say it's going to do pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteI don't care what anybody says, that was a great old school swerve+beatdown.
ReplyDeleteI'm somewhat joking but also somewhat serious. If HHH/Lesnar happens for Over the Limit (we do know how awful WWE doctors are, they routinely misdiagnose injuries as horrific initially), clearly that would be put over Punk/Bryan, but I'm not overly convinced they'll put Cena/Ace over it. I'm certainly not saying they won't do it, I could see them doing it as well, but it's not exactly Brock VS Cena or Rock VS Cena.
ReplyDeleteThis is Over the Limit here, not Wrestlemania or even Summerslam. Last year one of their random post WM PPVs was headlined by Cena VS TRUTH of all people. I don't think it's absolutely out of the realm of possibility, especially if Cena is going to be booked to lose in some kind of major screwjob with Brockference or something like that, whereas Punk is booked to win a great match.
lol. Random indeed. Screw Cena and Lesnar--Benoit is still the face of the WWE. Though, I have to admit, if I saw Benoit or Lesnar in a dark alley, I'd be more scared of Benoit.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, Meltzer said on his radio show that all indications was that it was Kharma and that it was changed because people in the WWE thought that would be to predictable. They're swerving and compromising logic.
ReplyDeleteI see it as a worthy main event in my own little universe, but I know that's not enough. To get a great match, you need two great workers, which we have. To get a great MATCH~! you need build, heat, promos, beatdowns, intrigue etc. So I want Punk vs Bryan to be a headline, but I don't want them just throwing that at the top of the card and saying "Uh....good luck guys. If this doesn't draw, it's your fault not ours."
ReplyDeleteWhen I say I want to see Punk and Bryan pushed, it means that I want them to be written as compelling characters, so that they aren't just two amazing workers trading holds.
Oh I thought I was enjoying Top Gear, MY BAD BRO.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure a ground swell of internet support will conjure for the Punk/Bryan match so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't do as bad as they thought. The December PPV last year was projected to be super low but ended up being a pleasent surprise and that had Punk on top.
ReplyDeleteI guess we'll see how the build goes over the next few weeks.
ReplyDelete*crosses fingers*
I think their (shitty) reasoning on Johnny is this. Johnny decides to bring in Brock. He MIGHT be bringing him in to attack Punk (he made a vague reference to Punk facing a natural disaster, which could have been Tensai and could have been a reference to the F5) or he might just be bringing him in because he wants to get the ratings up. Brock though wants to destroy Cena, so now Johnny has to back him. And post PPV, Cena beat Brock, which partially set off the whole thing with HHH and Brock, which could get Johnny fired both for bringing in Brock and for offering up those terrible terms. So now Johnny's pissed at Cena for what happened.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it's GOOD logic. But I'm guessing that's the way they'd go.
Some kinks are getting worked out, but man they're on a roll...I love that everything is a work these days too.
ReplyDeleteI think what's being lost in the Punk/Bryan excitement is that Bryan is naturally getting over as a face and getting a lot of fan support these days, and now he's going to be put against someone more popular than he is. It'll be a great match, but I think the real motivation here is to try to solidify Bryan as a heel, because that's what they want him to be.
ReplyDeleteThat's fine but I think both have been booked as compelling characters for months now. Not always booked perfectly or booked the way I'd ideally like, but neither has been randomly thrown onto cards. Punk has certainly been involved in all those things you mentioned pretty much since always, and Bryan has since he started turning heel. I fully expect the same thing to happen in the next two weeks.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, I didn't know Meltzer said that. If that's the case then I agree it's stupid.
ReplyDeleteDude, I'm laughing so hard I can I can barely type. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow I might have been excited for Lesnar/HHH had Lesnar actually you know, won his first match back.
ReplyDeleteOutside of a GTS, Johnny Ace hasn't been touched yet and the crowd loves to shit on him. I'm betting people will finally want to see Ace get his.
ReplyDelete"I'm pretty sure a ground swell of internet support will conjure for the Punk/Bryan match"
ReplyDeleteThe same internet support that will stream the ppv instead of buy it.
"Last year one of their random post WM PPVs was headlined by Cena VS TRUTH of all people."
ReplyDeleteThe key word is Cena, though. Do you really think he's not closing the show, especially if they decide to wait before pulling the trigger on HHH/Brock? They've done everything short of canonizing the man, and now he's suddenly going to play second-fiddle to Punk and Bryan? Doubtful.
I'm sure they'll get plenty of time and have a really good match. Asking for anything more than that is just inviting disappointment yet again.
Well zombies do love their brains so I see your point.
ReplyDeleteKnowing how this company does things and why, I wouldn't be shocked if they considered it worth $5 million just to have Brock put over their WWE Superstars.
ReplyDeleteThis makes no sense at all. Lesnar and HHH have a great brawl that ends with Lesnar breaking his arm and the only reason you're not excited is because he lost a match.
ReplyDeleteI'm serious dude, I keep trying to read it in HHH's voice and I'm just laughing too hard
ReplyDeleteExcellent point. I'll admit that I like that they're continuing to push him as a heel. I actually wish they had done the same thing with Punk last Summer.
ReplyDeleteI'm pissed that WWE swerved us out of the planned Punk/Lawler program. :-(
ReplyDeleteI figured you didn't even read the post and just replied with some B.S. to get your count up.
ReplyDeleteYakov smirnoff... outstanding!
ReplyDeleteYeah, because the end result is that he looked like a chump who couldn't back it up. I would want to pay money to see if he could lose to anyone. I already got my answer. Why would I care to see if HHH can beat him now?
ReplyDeleteAnd we know that the WWE LOVES to give the fans what they want.*
ReplyDelete* - denotes scarcasm.
Only if you're a Heat fan.
ReplyDeleteSitting here watching the Viet Nam special on the DVR because I can't get the new episodes to record for some reason (after the India special), my favorite part is Hammond all drunk as fuck in the bar with James while Jeremy's riding with twenty mirrors in his face. Poor Hamster never eats anywhere, lol.
ReplyDeleteRight, Top Gear. Anyway.
I'm sorry did my reply put you out somehow? Do you dislike people that reply? Because a comment section is probably not the best place for one with that kind of problem.
Live threads are fun, you should try them. =)
Considering their WWE Superstars are going to be here a lot longer than Brock Lesnar...how is that a bad idea?
ReplyDeleteSo...Lesnar(the heel) talks shit and attacks Cena(the babyface) but then loses. Lesnar(the heel) doesn't show any remorse and goes even further by breaking HHH(the babyface)'s arm. Why don't you want to see HHH beat him again?
ReplyDelete"And we know that the WWE LOVES to give the fans what they think they want.*"
ReplyDelete*- denotes fixed
"And although I love Punk-Bryan, Punk-Lesnar intrigued me even more because it's a fresh match up."
ReplyDeleteCalmase y cĂ¡llate. They have plenty of time to get there.
It depends on why and how they do it. Building him up so that someone can beat him his fine. But I don't want to see him face a different top guy every month so all the WWE Superstars who didn't get their wins against him 8 years ago can do so now. There's money in seeing HHH/Brock, Cena/Brock, Orton/Brock, etc, but none of those guys need to beat him, it just adds an extra chapter to their next DVD.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I DON'T want to HHH against Lesnar. I wanted to see a Cena/Lesnar program. I stand by what I said: I don't care if Cena won or lost last night, he should have sold the beating given to him with a stretcher ride. Anything other than Cena getting revenge on Brock for fucking him up is a waste.
ReplyDeleteI'm torn on Bryan. He's great as a heel, and I like that recently they've started to establish that he's a good wrestler and not just some loser who cashed in and stole a title. I just hate that they will use every booking trick possible to get their chosen guys over and either ignore or reluctantly, eventually, accept when the fans come across something they like on their own. I'm really not sure where he'd fit as a face at the moment, with Cena/Punk on Raw and Sheamus/Orton on Smackdown.
ReplyDeleteStraight up, most of this is Vince making Brock look bad because he walked out on him years ago. Vince will claim that's an asinine statement, but everyone knows what he's about.
ReplyDeleteIt's like that time the Bills beat the Patriots, then no one cared what happened to the patriots the rest of the season.....
ReplyDeleteWait, that's not what happened! The patriots won a whole bunch after and steamrolled into the Super Bowl, then got beat by an underdog.
So yeah, what's your point? Mine is one loss doesnt matter if he rattles off ten wins, and beats Cena again. Cause then the only guy who could beat him couldn't on the second try. Then who do you call?
NOOOOOO! Not another post! How will I overcome Chin's post count?!
ReplyDeleteI understand that, but Lesnar is not the end result, Lesnar is the tool to get to that result.
ReplyDeletePeople care about the playoffs in football no matter who the participants are. It's the event itself that is the attraction. Football does not rely on individual personalities and such to carry it. Moreover it's real it's not scripted. The only reason I bother to watch pro wrestling is such like a movie. And a bad movie is one where the villain is bested before the story ends. The money to be made from Lesnar was solely from a "who can beat this guy?" standpoint. We now have our answer and I couldn't care less who he faces from now on.
ReplyDeleteBecause he offers nothing any different from anyone else anymore. Lesnar was legit. He's the first real credible bad ass to join the ranks of WWE in a long time, which is something they were sorely in need of. Now that he's had his finisher nerfed and jobbed to Cena clean, what makes him any more of a draw than anyone else on the roster? May as well have had Tensai break his arm because I care about that just as much.
ReplyDeleteI don't see why Punk/Bryan can't be a main event. Punk's been WWE Champion since November, he's coming off two big wins against Jericho, and Bryan's recently been World Champion. His strong showing last night probably made up some credibility he lost with how they booked him to win/lose the title.
ReplyDeleteAre they any less credible a main event than Cena/Johnny? You don't know if they can be a main event until you try it, and a show featuring Cena/Johnny is the perfect chance to do it.
How did his finisher get nerfed when Cena kicked out at 6 and half? And his new finisher put Cena in a sling and broke HHH's arm? And Brock was never unbeatable, not in his first run or in the UFC(with his sparkling 5-3 record)
ReplyDeleteAnd he is a draw in wrestling for the same reason he was a draw in MMA. He is one of the most polarizing people in sports. People want to see him lose.
We'll use your sloppy movie analogy. HHH/Brock is the sequel. People paid to see Cena beat Lesnar. And now after just roughing up Cena, he takes it to another level with HHH(like any good sequel should) and breaks his arm. Now will all want to see HHH beat the holy hell out of Lesnar.
As opposed to the last 100 years or so of wrestling when only part of it was a work? ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat are you referring to precisely?
Welp.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking, "Vince is petty enough for Brock to do the job to the Brooklyn Brawler," and now I'm afraid that might be the end game. I could totally see Vince trying to ruin Lesnar's brand because Lesnar walked out on him.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you're trying to spin this in WWE's favor, but a) nobody cares about Triple H processing the correct paperwork and b) people want to see Brock Lesnar destroy stuff.
ReplyDeleteTriple H came out throwing a bitch fit because Brock had a bunch of demands that were granted without proper approval. So they're essentially fighting over a piece of paper. Compelling.
Triple H has no business putting himself in this. Now, I'm sure someone will say "wait! Let's see where this goes!" as if it WON'T result in a useless Triple H-Brock main event.
This is not really different than saying it was OK for Nash to beat Goldberg with a taser because Nash was a means to justify the end.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that your trying to spin this feud being about paperwork because I'm pretty sure when HHH comes back he'll want to fight Brock because he destroyed his arm(Look there is your 2nd point!) and not because of contract demands.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to say let's wait and see where this goes because I know exactly where it's going. HHH will want to fight Brock for breaking his arm and the fans get to see them try to out stiff each other for 20 minutes.
It would be useless now that they destroyed Lawler's aura by jobbing him out to Bryan in their first match and burnt thousands of dollars in the process.
ReplyDeleteHappens every year after Mania, like clockwork. Dumbass company run by complete dumbasses farts its way into something cool, then spends all year ruining it and farting out horseshit mixed with occasional good wrestling until the magic period of Rumble > Mania begins again. Same thing, every year.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep tabs on Brock, Bryan, and Punk, but I'm done being a regular watcher until/unless they come up with a good PPV here and there, until next year. Same as it ever was. Hopefully someday when Vince is gone we'll get to see something different. Someday.
You know what would have really put the Kimura over? If he broke Cena's arm with it at Extreme Rules in the first place.
ReplyDeleteHow come I don't hear these same people that were bitching about Rock taking their spot complaining about Brock doing the same thing?
ReplyDeleteDude c'mon, you're really going to bitch about him not breaking Cena's arm? Ryan Murphy said it right in the live thread, after breaking H's arm, it's over as the most vicious sub move out there now.
ReplyDeleteHHH's motivation for confronting Brock was because Big Johnny didn't have the authority to issue contract demands, so he had to put him in his place. That's as flimsy an excuse to put them together as anything.
ReplyDeleteAnd why should there be sympathy for HHH? He's a semi-active wrestler who was in the ring less than a month ago and he wound up like he was going to smash another guy's skull open with a sledgehammer. This is three times since HHH has been COO that he's gotten involved when it wasn't necessary. Story logic dictates that he's a busy body COO and that he should stay in an office. Ah, but who doesn't love a company man that intends to enforce contracts to a "T"!
Also...why are we supposed to cheer for him? Because he talked to a lawyer and found a contract that is voidable? Because, again, less than a month ago he was attempting to beat someone over the head with a sledgehammer? HHH is one of the least sympathetic, least cheer-able guys on the roster.
"Broken arms" don't heal in three weeks. I take that as meaning that neither HHH nor Lesnar will be at Over The Limit.
ReplyDeleteI'm just trying to point out that they could have achieved what they were going for in a far better way at the pay per view on top of doing what he did to HHH.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't a good analogy, mostly because I'm not sure which Patriots season you're referring to. The year they lost to the Bills was the year they went 14-2 and beat the Panthers in the SB.
ReplyDeleteAnd wrestling =/= football. For one thing, it's a television show that doesn't end with two teams competing for a vacant championship before starting over. It's just a continuous loop.
According the dirt sheets, Brock was pretty pissed about the finish last night and Cena's promo, so he might be done already.
ReplyDeleteI said this in the RAW thread, so I'm gonna say it again. WWE is the only company that can counteract gaining probably 200K buys with losing about 75 percent of those in less than 30 minutes(I don't think TNA even does that). It was already bad enough Cena won and cut a promo about how he's leaving, YET now all of a sudden has a match at the next PPV against Ace(that might be the first time for me where a swerve didn't make things better). I mean Tensai was bad but washed up, retired Johnny Ace.....COME ON.
The fans are now put in a rut because if they buy the show to support Bryan/Punk, their also supporting Cena/Ace. I usually watch WWE's PPV's no matter bad the situation is, but this time I might just watch Punk/Bryan and that's it(unless the card get better, which I doubt). Espescially with NBA/NHL Playoffs in full swing, better things to watch.
If the live thread is any indication (which it likely isnt but oh well) I just have a feeling that this RAW popped a good rating. Maybe a 3.4 - to 3.5.
ReplyDeleteNow over the next 2 months? Thats another story.
Yeah, I really don't believe that. I think the dirt sheets have bullshit information there. Or he might be annoyed about it but not nearly enough to quit. If he was that pissed off about the finish I would think he would have handled it differently and acted like Cena got a lucky shot, not stumbled bleeding to the back looking dazed. Sounds like the dirt sheets are getting worked again.
ReplyDeleteI think Brock should have won, but honestly. One loss (where you dominated most of the match and destroyed the top guy as much as anyone ever has) totally destroys you forever? How does the company exist anymore if a single loss immediately destroys you forever?
ReplyDeleteSimple, Brock has no problem confronting them and possibly kicking their ass for it, he's a loose cannon if you will. Rock on the other hand isn't like that.
ReplyDeleteBroken backs don't either. But Ryder's broken back was mysteriously downgraded to "not a broken back" the next day. Cena had a torn bicep and possible rotator cuff tear last night...then this morning it was "serious shoulder damage" before it was downgraded to "some muscle strains".
ReplyDeleteFor the record I don't expect Brock/HHH at Over the Limit, but it wouldn't be the first time this year or the first time this WEEK that WWE claimed an injury to someone to get people interested and then downgraded it the next day.
If that report about Cena cutting that promo on the fly is true, it is a HUGE dick move. It also makes me wonder if Cena even realizes that the all smiles and jokes means instant death to any serious feud he is in.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't asking for more, I was pointing out that people HERE, the smarks, are shitting all over Punk/Bryan and acting like it's not a worthy main event. I think it is. I won't be "disappointed" if it doesn't close the show, although I absolutely think it could. I'm just saying it's a self fulfilling prophecy when we all demand Punk and Bryan be elevated, and then when they're booked into a match together for the WWE title on PPV, bitch that Cena's not in a big enough main event match for us.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm also just saying I could see either match going on last. Cena's the bigger "name" but it depends entirely on what they have planned for the match. If it's just some quickie 5-10 minute "Tensai beats up Cena and then Cena beats Ace", I really doubt it's the main event. If Brock is going to disappear for the next 2 Raws and then show up to attack Cena, it probably goes on last. If they actually intend to put Bryan over Punk (which I doubt), Cena likely goes on last. I'm just saying I don't think it's at all impossible that they decide to put Punk/Bryan on last because I don't think we know right now what the Cena/Ace match is going to be.
Only reason I can believe it because Brock is so loose that who knows how he feels or what he's thinking. It wouldn't surprise me if he said "Fuck this shit" and walked out. He's not hurting for money.
ReplyDeleteThe report I read said that Brock was pissed about the promo Cena did. The finish was always Cena winning but afterwards Cena was supposed to sell the beating not cut a goofy promo.
ReplyDeleteIf his goofy ass hasn't figured it out by now, he never will. Fear not, he'll be back next week, grinning like a dumbshit & talking to the camera when he makes his entrance, and making hairy back jokes about Albert.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me wonder if Vince and the office doesn't have a problem with turning Cena heel. It might be just that Cena really doesn't want to do it.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's flimsy but no one is going to remember contracts a month from now or whenever they meet up.
ReplyDeleteAnd who is talking about sympathy? I'm talking straight up revenge. Fans are going want to see HHH bust out the sledgehammer and try and break Brock's arm with it.
I take it you wouldn't think so but for a lot of people HHH/Brock is one of the last few dream matches left. Two huge stars who never matched up before will sell some ppvs. HHH as unsympathetic? Yes. HHH as the least cheer-able? I guess I'm the only guy who hears the monster pops he gets.
One thing about RAW: Michael Cole making a concerted effort to tone down the heel schtick. He even kept himself in check when Lawler competed. I like Cole just fine when he's normal, and if he's gonna have any heelish tendencies, they work better being goofy and getting a laugh out of King or Booker than being over-the-top and dickish.
ReplyDeleteI stopped becoming a regular viewer once the whole Nash/HHH feud started last year. And I only recently tuned into the product after hearing of Brock's return. And now after Cena's win last night, I'm not even annoyed, just indifferent to the absolute boneheaded decisions this company has made post-Mania.
ReplyDeleteSorry to sidetrack the thread, but I'm watching The Best of the King of the Ring on Netflix, and few things are more obnoxious and irritating than Jim Ross mocking people who say "well they know how to fall". JR conveniently forgets that it's the WWF that exposed the business through Tough Enough and put that idea in people's heads to begin with.
ReplyDeleteIt could also be that the reins around him from backstage are loosening up a bit, but you're right, he was pretty solid tonight.
ReplyDeletePunk-Bryan at Over the Limit is Benoit-Angle from the Royal Rumble 2003. Two guys in top spots wrestling in the smark-friendly match of the year, who will never be ahead of the guys above them as far as the corporate pecking order.
ReplyDeleteI just hope they are as perfect as Benoit and Angle were that night. Because like Angle-Benoit, I don't think they will have the crowd with them to start, and they'll have to win them over with an amazing wrestling match.
Scott Steiner is a free agent... maybe the WWE can get him to go on right before that match?
I'm not so sure. I think that the WWE is actually trying very hard to get us to believe that there is something real going on all the time.
ReplyDeleteCena cutting an unscripted promo? Lesnar going ballistic backstage? Pretty sure if you shoot on Brock Lesnar, he's going to come out and absolutely try to pound you into gelatin.
But then I think to myself "Or is that just what WWE would want me to believe would happen?"
They're doing their level best to get us to second guess ourselves, so that we can't always get a solid idea of where they're going.Whether or not this is genuinely good thing, I don't know. But it seems to me it's what they're doing.
*hundreds* of dollars in the process.
ReplyDeleteRight, Punk and Bryan aren't going to have the crowd in their hands. Daniel Bryan may not be as good as a wrestler as Benoit (I'd disagree but strokes, different) but he's a way better character, and comparing Angle to Punk in terms of mic work or charisma is a little unfair to the gold medalist.
ReplyDeleteIt was okay for Nash to beat Goldberg. Nash was incredibly over at the time.
ReplyDeleteJust because something isn't the best choice doesn't mean it's a bad choice. The world is not black and white.
I could believe that. As much as Cena may be a nice guy, he - just like anyone else at the top - is desperate to keep his spot. It did seem unusual at the time, and if true, it's an incredibly selfish act on his behalf.
ReplyDeleteHey, Johnny Ace has more David Meltzer Five Star matches than Daniel Bryan, Triple H, and Chris Benoit, and is tied in Davie Meltzer Five Star matches with CM Punk and Shawn Michaels.
ReplyDeleteNo, that's dumb.
ReplyDeletePunk has had 1 Main Event PPV match since becoming champion at Survivor Series.
ReplyDeleteI thought the 'broken arm' bit was really well done. Crowd heat was crazy.
ReplyDeletePunk/Bryan on PPV. YES! Should be excellent, and it'd nice if they stuck to 1 vs 1. Hopefully OTL will be one of the free PPVs we get in the UK (although we're already paying for Sky Sports).
Cena/Ace. Yeah, fuck 'em for this, but I don't really care, it's what DVRs are for. Honestly, you guys should fast-forward through the stuff that you know is going to be shit, it feels a lot less like a waste of your life then.
The only time I felt he got shafted was at EC. Other than that I don't think any of his matches deserved to go on last. You can't bump Rock/Cena, Brock/Cena, or the Rumble (I assume the Rumble closed, I can't remember off the top of my head).
ReplyDeleteI think (and hope) you're right about the crowd, but no way is it a slam dunk. Punk and Jericho had trouble getting the crowd (and in some cases the viewers at home) into the Mania match.
ReplyDeleteThis ain't like just throwing Cena/HHH/HBK/Rock/etc out there knowing the crowd will be into it. These guys (especially Bryan) need a good storyline going in or the crowd may be indifferent to start.
Of course I don't remember where OTL is happening this year, so disregard what I said if it's in a smarky city.
For your information, the one time that Punk faced Lawler (January 31st, 2011 RAW), The King was victorious!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the report in the sheetz that "Some within the company
ReplyDeletebelieve they could legitimately come to blows at Wrestlemania" Re:
Rock/Cena
I'm very much going to thread jack here...
ReplyDeleteMan, sometimes I forget just how fucking crazy ECW was, and how entertaining. They have Living Dangerously on Classics right now. First match is suppose to be Steve Corino vs Dusty Rhodes. Well, Steve is doing the pre-match heel promo, and finds Sandman's wife just chilling front row, so he decides to talk shit. Well, this leads to her being drug into the ring, about to get her ass kicked. Sandman makes the save, but gets his ass kicked. At which point, Rhino Gores Sandman's wife through a freaking table. They clear things out, and then the match starts....I mean...they were just so unorthodox.
I think the question is, rather, why are they not giving the WWE champion matches that are worthy if going on last?
ReplyDeleteThe WWE is a better place with The Rock and Brock Lesnar involved, and both of those guys needed to face Cena first (especially Rock). Rock/Punk and Brock/Punk just isn't as compelling.
ReplyDeleteThey could've had Punk work a program with Taker, HHH, or Austin and he still wouldn't have gone on after those matches.
Being a fan of the WWE is like being a fan of the New York Knicks. Every time it seems like they finally get it, SOMEBODY does something stupid to fuck it all up.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I understand that last sentence...you're not implying that Punk has the edge over Kurt Angle (when he was in his prime), are you?
ReplyDeleteif the tv matches (and the crowd participation during that matches) they had are any indication of what will happen at Over The Limit, those two will be just fine.
ReplyDeletehe started doing that as early as 1997 or 1998 at a point when it wasn't as "out there" as it is now.
ReplyDeletereally? now it has come to accusing John Cena - who hardly anybody, not even FORMER employees, has anything bad to say about - of being too selfish?!?
ReplyDeleteYou gotta love it when they work the smarks.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you have to mock R-Truth. His character was very entertaining at that point. You know, before they turned him into a comedy act and killed any heat he had.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, why isTruth coming out to protect Triple H from Lesnar? Didn't HHH just have Truth fired and arrested 6 months ago?
Is it bad that when they were about to announce Cena's opponent for Over the Limit, I completely forgot Lord Tensai existed until his music hit? I will give Big Johnny credit for showing more anger and intensity in his beatdown than Cena has shown in the past 6 months combined.
ReplyDeleteand Lesnar deserves every second of it.
ReplyDeleteThere's not storyline nearer to my heart than BATTLE OF THE AUTHORITY FIGURES. Watching middle management bicker over who gets what in a scripted sport just compells me to tune in.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, they've become so obsessed with working the smarks that they start booking in a way that throws logic out the window. At least Russo would attempt to have all the swerves make sense. Again, WWE is cutting off their nose to spite their face.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, he would usually follow that up with, "how do you learn to fall from a 20ft ladder?" or "learn how to fall, my big Oklahoma butt!"
ReplyDeleteThey lost to the Bills this past year. I think that's what he was referring too.
ReplyDeleteHe stated clearly they lost in the Super Bowl to an underdog, which means there could only be two seasons he was talking about.
Yeah, that's pretty moronic to pay somebody to make your current crop of Superstars look good.
ReplyDeleteHahahhahaha, there are still 11 months left on Brock's contract and you are writing this whole thing off after a month? Love the reactionary nature of wrestling fans.
ReplyDeleteLet's be fair, though, this is completely different. I don't know the specifics of Brock's deal -- I know it's limited -- but he's still at virtually every single Raw and will be wrestling at virtually every single PPV. He's essentially Shawn Michaels.
ReplyDeleteAs crazy as it sounds, the fans aren't always "right." Just because they cheer somebody doesn't mean they should be a good guy. I think WWE is actually right in this case. They're getting the best of both worlds. They're making money off of this whole "YES!" thing, but they recognize that the reason why Bryan is so over is because of the way he acts as a heel. History has shown us that WWE is simply not very good at booking a popular bad guy as a face. Bryan is much better off being a heel at this point.
ReplyDeleteWere you in every house that Wrestlemania played in?
ReplyDeleteAlso, Mania was held at an open air stadium. Everyone knows the noise travels up.
What's wrong with talking to the camera?
ReplyDeleteRusso makes about as much sense as a dog eating salad while parachuting through a wormhole inside of a coffee mug.
ReplyDeleteFootball is a television show too. Football is all about the story of a that team's journey. Wrestling is about the journey of a wrestler. It's the same exact thing. If one loss were really this destructive, Dolph Ziggler would be a torso zombie at this point.
ReplyDeleteIt took everything John Cena had to beat this guy. In fact, it took a chain and an AA onto steel steps to beat this guy. In fact, Brock softened himself up with that monstrous super jumping overhand fist giving Cena the opportunity to find the chain.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead and keep fantasy booking your enjoyment into a dead end because the more you fantasy book, the less you're going to actually enjoy the product.
ReplyDeleteIt's just like when you imagine how a book character should look and then when it's adapted to the screen you cry foul because it looks nothing like how you imagined it.
If you want to fantasy book, play EWR and not let it corrupt your life.
Who is Albert?
ReplyDeleteFunkasaurs & Hornswoggle are doing a main event dance sequence for thirty minutes.
ReplyDeleteHis arm was in a cast, he has a gash on his head and he got his arm destroyed by three men. How is that not selling a beating?
ReplyDeleteGo back and read the Mania live thread, that's what I was referring to. Most people on here are big Punk and Jericho marks, and even some of them said it took a little while to get into the match.
ReplyDeleteI'm aware they didn't wrestle in a dome. Didn't hurt HHH/Taker or Rock/Cena. Hell, listen to the crowd for the ending sequence of the Punk/Jericho match. Much louder than it was for the first 10 or so minutes.
Aren't you the same guy chastising people on here for not following the Cena-Lesnar story, which apparently includes their 2003 program which hasn't been referenced?
ReplyDeleteI was into the match the whole entire time. I guess psychology shouldn't be verbal, it should only be kicks to the back of the left knee. Look at that great psychology he's going for the knee!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, there is no Albert on WWE Roster page. Who is Albert?
ReplyDeleteDid you mean Alberto but forgot to put the o on there? He wasn't at the show last night dude, he got traded to Smackdown!
Seriously, I had no idea we were having a battle, I thought I was enjoying live threads...lol.
ReplyDeleteOH SHIT PLUS ONE.
We've just been conditioned for WWE to screw up can't miss storylines.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say Russo did make sense...I just said at least he TRIED to make sense of the swerves :)
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of fans have reached the point where the WWE could do just about anything and they will say its screwed up,
ReplyDeleteYou've been conditioned to fantasy book your own enjoyment into a corner.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he was responsible for the logic behind the swerves. It was left to the rest of the crew to fix Russo's mistakes.
ReplyDeleteWell, fortunately I am, since 88.
ReplyDeleteAt least Amare finally hit the glass.
Wow, you even busted out "un acento" on the shut up. Good job on that, but yeah, still rather see Punk-Lesnar.
ReplyDeleteNot paying attention or just trolling?
ReplyDeleteBTW, here's your post from the other thread:
ReplyDeleteDid they bring up Shawn Michaels v. Ric Flair from '92? No, because they shouldn't have to. A fan that has been watching for years should be aware of these matches and apply it to the storyline.
The WWE shouldn't have to retell history for you. It's your fault for ignoring the history and complaining when they don't cater to your lazy fandom.
A true wrestling fan knows the history and applies it to any long running feud.
No what?
The first ten minutes of that show were great as well, even though after James Mitchell's excellent intro (am I the only one thinking he should be managing Lord Tensai now?), they went to the live feed too early and thus caught Joey Styles still doing the countdown clock.
ReplyDeleteBut, Joel Gertner's spiel, followed by the Styles/Gertner/Cyrus scuffle, followed by the whole Corino/Rhino/Sandman/Lori angle, was one of the best opening 20 minutes I've ever seen in a wrestling show.
That is how you pace a show, not showing four replays of the same damn promo we just saw. Seriously, why does WWE act like DVRs and YouTube don't exist?
Is that an unreasonable claim to make? I'm not sure that I would, but it's not ridiculous on its face. Punk is that good right now.
ReplyDeleteThere is no one named Albert in the WWE at this present moment. The closest is Alberto del Rio, but he is on Smackdown and did not show up on the show last night.
ReplyDeleteI understand the "coolness" factor to call someone by their old gimmick. Actually, I don't, it's stupid as hell. You don't call Daniel Bryan Bryan Danielson do you? You don't, so don't call Lord Tensai Albert.
Or... you know... those comments from "the boys in the back" complaining about Rock stealing a spot at 'Mania were not in fact real at all and were leaked by the WWE to try and get some sympathy for Cena.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck are you doing on a smarkboard then? I mean, you do realize that these guys are playing characters and stuff. I can call him whatever the fuck I want.
ReplyDeleteMan, it takes a whole lot for something or someone to irritate me, but congratulations.
yeah, that's something that pisses me as well. we have SEEN it. and if not, we can still go online (after all, WWE has their own freaking youtube channel!) and watch it there.
ReplyDeleteNo, WWE has us conditioned to expect them to fuck these things up.
ReplyDeleteSee: The Nexus, Triple H inserting himself and Kevin Nash into the Punk storyline, the Invasion.
I'm 27 years old, and I'm seriously checking underneath my bed for that tonight.
ReplyDeleteThanks TNA.
John Cena's a delusional nut.
ReplyDeleteHe was recently quoted in an interview saying that you "have to be a bad person in real life to play a bad guy on television."
Even Bret Hart must have been thinking "people said I took this shit too seriously?" to himself after reading that.
That guy has taken over the reigns of the best face paint by a wrestler today.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is playing the character Lord Tensai, not Albert. Call him by what he should be called by. Respect the business.
ReplyDeleteThe fact you willingly call yourself a smark is sort of pathetic. The connotations attached to smark include; randomly chant to everything at an ROH show, boos the faces and cheer the heels because I'm an adult now, be absolutely pessimistic about anything wrestling related, hate Kane, call wrestlers by names they no longer go by, and of course still love Benoit even though he turned into a despicable human being even though there is no way to justify his past because of his future.
You guys are what makes it sort of weird to claim to be a wrestling fan. It's not the lubed up dudes in undies fighting each other, it's not the sexism that usually runs rampant (sans for Macho-Elizabeth and Bryan-AJ because it's social commentary on our society), it's not even the "white trash" fans that cheer everyone you vehemently hate. It's you all and your constant ability to shit on any and everything.
You're jaded because you want Neo-Brock to be like Golden Age Brock. You want WWE to spit out the originality gum and put back in the ABC, recycled garbage you are used to. You want Benoit to rise from the dead and chop and German suplex for three hours because that's "good" wrestling.
Sit back and watch RAW without that super critical eye. Have fun and let quasi Kane/Ryder feud be this awesome satire on horror movie villains and inept horror hero instead of "waaaaaah, this makes no sense guys" bullshit y'all rattle off.
The Invasion angle, in retrospect, is pretty awesome in how bad it was done, but created so much win for the company. It spawned an Austin that has people chanting his chant years later.
ReplyDeleteAnd let Triple H and Nash have their swan song. It boosted CM Punk's name by being around dudes who were main eventing years ago.
I don't have much to say about the Nexus other than I'm glad it didn't turn into nWo.
You're wasting your time, man.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Jeff Hardy living in my computer screen?!?!?! THERE ARE NO DRUGS STASHED THERE!!
ReplyDeleteSmiling in the camera and giving random shout outs to people when you've just had your ass handed to you the night/week before isn't exactly the most effective way to sell a serious situation.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was the 97 & 98 KOTR PPVs where he was busting out that line with regularity.
ReplyDeletebuckdiddy
ReplyDeleteWow, I don't even know where to begin.
Lets start with this, do you call actors by their stage name? "Respect the business"? Say what? Are you IN the business? Because I watch for entertainment, not as some kind of job that there are protocols I should follow.
I said you were on a smark board and you are. For God's sake, Scott's rants are called "SMARK RANTS". Btw, smark means that you are smart to the business not some list of stereotypes that you have created with your buddies to lump all of us in and by definition, you're just as big a smark as the rest of us.
The fact that you even say that smarks "still love Benoit even though he turned into a despicable human being even though there is no way to justify his past because of his future" just proves how ignorant you are and the level of trolling you're willing to reach.
If this was my board, you'd be banned just for that. Pathetic.
It's in Raleigh, where I live, and trust me, this is nowhere close to being a smarky city. At the last Smackdown taping here, Big Show was the most over guy, with Orton coming in a close second. No heels got any serious cheers.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Robert. I didn't realize the level of trolldom until he typed that smarks still defend what Benoit did....sigh.
ReplyDeleteYep. That Punk/Jericho match was not clicking for me for quite a while. They made up for it with the last portion of the match. Something has been a little "off" with Jericho since his return, but Bryan is on a roll, so I think his match with Punk should be better right out of the gate.
ReplyDeleteHe was in shock.
ReplyDeleteflair4dagold
ReplyDeleteFUN FACT: Some actors do go by stage names.
And I'm glad you justify banning because that means other people's opinions are non-existent to you, which is sad.
LOL. Well played.
ReplyDeleteI just think Punk/Jericho is a case where two highly-talented performers just don't have great chemistry for whatever reason.
ReplyDeleteBret and Shawn, for example, could have a good-to-great match with pretty much anybody, but their matches together were never stellar.
No way was that on the fly - the match ended several minutes before the broadcast went off the air, having that five-minute span at the end had to have been planned ahead.
ReplyDeleteJoel's whole "I'm Joel blahblahblah Gertner" deal was the best one I'd ever heard from him.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first half, and just flat out enjoyed what I watched. Not a lot of technical classics, but entertaining stuff. Afterwards I went and read some of Scott's ECW reviews, and I just got the feeling that Scott reviewing ECW was like me reviewing The Jersey Shore, or Keeping Up With The Kardashians. No matter what, it's not going to be glowing.
FWIW, if you were counting all the posts from the old blog, I'd be way in the lead. You got lucky. And I did it while not participating in every live thread and barely ever getting into long winded arguments with reply after reply...So I win.
ReplyDeleteI live in NY, and I went to high school with Amare Stoudamire, so I am obligated to tell you to suck it.
ReplyDeleteWell, injuries were one thing that hasn't been incorporated into a work in the last few years (ie JYD in 1980)...it's refreshing to see!
ReplyDeletePeople call him Bryan Danielson all the time, where have you been? I could see if your argument was with Terra Ryzing or something, but seriously, most people knew him as Albert a lot longer than he has been Tensai yet, and eventually Tensai will catch on if he sticks around long enough and it will feel more natural to say "Tensai" because we'll be used to it, kinda like I've been with saying "Daniel Bryan" now.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, people still feel awkward saying "Seth Rollins" instead of "Tyler Black" but for some reason it seems as though people have forgotten Jon Moxley and caught on to "Dean Ambrose" much quicker even though he's been called that for much less time.
I feel like a lot of the people who cheer and support Bryan like him as he is, as a heel. Certainly I prefer it to his bland character-less babyface run. I don't think just because people like him he needs to change and be a face, he just needs to be allowed to be an awesome heel that everyone likes anyway.
ReplyDeleteSupposedly Punk walked up to Rock after his Mania match and said "Follow that, asshole." It could just be a storyline plant but it's interesting to think about. I also think I heard that Cody Rhodes was bitching about Brock.
ReplyDeleteKimura needed its day in the sun, not many guys in America have tried to use it in wrestling. Davey Richards had a chance to get it over but he switched to "Shooter Gimmick 101" ankle lock instead.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the Kimura to HHH did a lot to get it over because of how viciously he put it on. That last extension looked just like in the UFC games when they put it on and crank it all the way back and you're stuck in the fucking submission that they shouldn't have even got because they pulled you into bottom guard off a caught strike that should have put them out and only really good submission guys can counter those submissions and the fucking submissions are not at all intuitive and they're hard to pull off so you pretty much just have to hope your striker can get his shots in before the other asshole pulls you down into guard and FUCKS you with the fucking Kimura. If a HHH supporter felt THAT level of frustration at Brock for doing that to HHH, they'd pay a shit ton of money to see Brock get his.
The sad thing is, I've been playing UFC 2010 until I decide to trade up for the new one, and it's bugging me that bad. Fuck that shit.
And truthfully, he isn't really extremely old, and he's probably healthy since he hasn't been working regularly for a long time. It'd be kinda cool if somehow him & Cena had a seriously good wrestling match to cap the show.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, if the show is a success, it will be because of Cena/Ace. If it's a failure, it'll be because of Punk/Bryan. I'd bet anything on it.
I would say so. A lot of people wouldn't but I think a lot of people are still stuck in that nostalgia blinded "older is better, always" mentality.
ReplyDeleteAmare should have taken a lesson from Goldberg.
ReplyDeleteIn 2 months, No Way Out (an all Cage Match PPV) will debut. I expect a pop for that buyrate compared to Capitol Punishment, just on the gimmick alone.
ReplyDeleteIf they aren't doing a 3.5 in June, they'll at least get a buyrate pop and some vested interest.
Ah that makes sense! Sorry your comment just made giggle and I figured you weren't trying to be funny so I had to ask. :)
ReplyDeleteName a single promo Angle has done that has changed the direction of the company. Or how about this, name promo Angle's cut that's sold a PPV, or gotten him or someone else over as a heel or face.
ReplyDeletePunk has done something Angle's rarely done, get heel heat.
I disagree, even if it's just for the fact that Punk sells the arm better than anybody and Bryan has some of the greatest arm working stuff I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI'm just waiting for the ACE CRUSHA!!!!
ReplyDeleteYknow in all the hullabaloo I actually forgot we were discussing Angle around Phrederic. Still Punk > Angle in his prime.
ReplyDelete
