Randy Orton Suspended For 60 Days Due To Wellness Violation

Source

This might be a good thing for him.  He needs to be freshened up badly.

Thoughts on this?

Comments

  1. I could have sworn this was his third, I remember him being gone right after Wrestlemania 22 and being back in time to wrestle Kurt Angle at One Night Stand 2 (so about 60 days).

    ReplyDelete
  2. Here's hoping for one more!

    Vintage Orton

    ReplyDelete
  3. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Let's see if he treats this like his shoulder injury and manages to make it last another 60.

Orton's stance on the drug policy is one of the only things I agree with him about (him smoking pot outside Vince's office in protest will forever be the coolest thing he's ever done) but I still gotta gloat at a piece of main event deadweight being on the shelf.

So much for the Orton vs. Jericho program. Maybe they can have a "winner gets reinstated" match.

    ReplyDelete
  4. As an Orton fan, this news obviously sucks. His ring work has been great, but his character has stagnated mainly because they haven't done anything with him really since his feud with Barrett. So he's been having quality matches but they've mainly been great matches with no direction or character. I hope with him being gone for a couple months they'll bring him back as a tweener or heel, with more Stone Cold like tendencies where he just RKO's everyone or at least has SOME direction. It sucks seeing one of your favorite wrestlers floundering like Orton has been, like Cody Rhodes has been, like Dolph has been.

    ReplyDelete
  5. This has a Jeff Hardy/TNA vibe to it. TNA lucks into a monster talent because he is a fuck up. But because TNA is fuck up, it never works out.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Agreed.  But on the second violation, they reworded the policy to allow guys to appear on TV, they just wouldn't get paid.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Wass that 2006 Suspension for drugs? I thought it was for him being a dick. Like shitting in a gym bag or something?

    ReplyDelete
  8.  Wait, he smoked pot outside Vince's office? When was this?!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Them marijuana cigarettes are the devil I tell you...

    ReplyDelete
  10. More than likely marijuana will be legal and taxed in the next few years. Vince's hard line stance on the sticky icky is beyond the absurd.

Orton is a victim of WWE being afraid to turn anyone heel. A mix of his current character and the cocky playboy he played during Evolution would be suitable.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The only way Orton can try to be more like Stone Cold is if he starts coming out to the ring on an ATV.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's a shame that Orton didn't have an Iron Clad Contract, like Big Show got.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Does this dispel any of the rumors that the wellness policy is fixed?  He's still their 2nd biggest star as much as I keep wanting it to be Punk or Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  14. This is exactly why you have to develop and push new talent. Orton has been stale and caught in the mid-card but...I bet this throws a wrench in things if and when there's an injury. No Jericho, Orton or Mysterio right now. Imagine a Cena injury within the next week, that would be disastrous for The E. I'd almost kind of like to see what they would do.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Maybe Orton and Jericho can have their match on the Fozzy tour.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I wonder if this is part of the reason he was dropped down the card quite a bit in the past year.  Maybe some people backstage knew it was a matter of time before he failed another test, so they kept him away from the main event to protect their top-billed matches.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You don't think Punk's passed him in the last 10 months? It's not exactly a small sample size at this point, and I'd say that Punk's demonstratively been booked stronger over it. At any rate, this will only help Punk if they're getting cold feet about his spot.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Also the fact that he is way more injury prone than the average wrestler. And Punk and Sheamus rising up the card made it much easier to move him down.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That sucks for Dolph Ziggler because it looked like he was going to be Chris Jericho's replacement for the next PPV.

    ReplyDelete
  20. How is he still their 2nd biggest star when he hasn't been in a memorable or top billed feud in over a year? And the fact that he was moved to a 2nd rate show.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Years ago. It was an apocryphal story, so details might have been changed (it might not necessarily have been Vince's office, but it was backstage). 2005-2007, somewhere in there.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah I'd say, my opinions about him aside, he's still only their 3rd biggest "regular" behind Cena & Punk. He also gets lapped by the part timers, HHH, Rock, Lesnar, UT, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pot is only a fine. A violation would be that Spice stuff Bourne got dined with.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Also, didn't Smackdown ratings nosedive with Orton as champion?

    ReplyDelete
  25.  Joe cultstatus Ryan Murphy

Alright, I'm glad the perception at this point is Punk has a firm grasp on the #2 spot.  Happy to be wrong here. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Big Show v. Kane, world title unification.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Which makes all kinds of sense, since Spice/K2/Blackjack/Whatever is legal in lots of places, whereas weed is illegal everywhere. Suspend somebody for doing something that won't get them arrested in most states but only fine them for something that will. That's so WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It seemed like Raw ratings would nosedive whenever Orton appeared on television in general.

It's strange, for a guy who's insanely over with the live crowd (even I have to admit that), the home audience couldn't care less.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Let me be the first to make this joke before literally everyone starts saying:

I bet Orton got suspended for doing Bath Salts, when he was caught chewing on Kane's mask...

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'd put Sheamus above him too.

    ReplyDelete
  31.  DARKEST DAY IN WWE HISTORY!!!

(My 1st post on this board....please be gentle)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I can see that. His pulse never rises when he gives a promo and if you've seen one Orton tv match, you've seen them all.

    ReplyDelete
  33. He's getting there, if he stays there over the next year I'll buy it. Right now he's at a tipping point where he could go either way. Like him or not, Orton's at least established in ways Sheamus isn't yet.

    ReplyDelete
  34. RKO! RKO! RKO! Good gawd King, the viper strikes again! The viper strikes again! He's the apexest predator in the WWE, King!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh come on, how can this be the darkest day? Did you not even see the Big Show punch John Cena?!?

    ReplyDelete
  36. This post should have all the likes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. DARKEST DAY IN BLOG OF DOOM HISTORY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why would we assume he was suspended for marijuana? Did you get that information from somewhere I didn't see?

    ReplyDelete
  39. To quote Daniel Bryan..... YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I was talking more about how the office sees them rather than the audience.

    ReplyDelete
  41. One of them wasn't a Wellness Violation.

    ReplyDelete
  42.  Orton has history as a pothead.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I smoke as much bud as the next guy, but I always laugh at this pothead naivete. Marijuana is still a Schedule I substance, which means that legally it's not even considered to have any medical application. If it is reclassified, it's more likely to be Schedule II, so that it can be legally prescribed, and good luck getting it away from the pharmaceutical companies when that happens. Even that's not likely to happen within the next few years, as there's no political benefit. The people you'd upset by doing so, older citizens, are the ones who actually vote, and the ones you'd please, younger citizens, don't vote. It's likely going to take a generation or two, for its older opponents to die off, and its younger advocates to become older voters. And again, even then you'll be talking your doctor into prescribing THC pills, not buying Marlboro Bud cigarettes at the corner store.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Orton needs a complete and total retool, if we can't get him turned heel and positioned as Joker to CM Punk's Batman.

Make him wear a hood and full body suit and fucking push him as a mystery guy for a while. I'm sure having to wear a mask/use an alias will not bother Orton if he gets a cut of the merchandise rights for the selling of his mask to kids.)

You could even get some mileage out of Orton having a split persona: MaskMan Orton, who is pure good, and his evil Viper persona, who is an pure evil dick. Perhap insert CM Punk into the equation as far as Orton wearing the mask because it's the only way he can get Punk to trust him and play out the idea that MaskMan Orton and Punk are best friends and Orton is TERRIFIED that if he tells Punk who he really is, that Punk will reject him and try and try and destroy Orton, under the logic that Orton was planning on betraying Punk per Orton's longstanding desire to fuck over Punk every chance he gets.

And hell, I'm sure Punk would get a kick out of the humor of the fact that, while genre savy enough to see through every cliche in wrestling, he can't see the fact that his new best friend is Randy Orton in a mask and spandex catsuit. Especially if they have johnny ace realizing that Orton is Maskman, tries to warn Punk, but gives up after the first couple of times due to him realizing that Punk thinks Ace is trying to trick him and us getting the running gag of Ace and Orton having ackward moments where Orton tries to pretend that he's not Orton and Ace passively aggressively humoring him.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Even that's iffy. He's HHH's boy, but I'm betting Orton comes back and is in the same position he's in now, whereas if it were Sheamus getting the Wellness violation? He'd be feuding with Jinder again.

    ReplyDelete
  46.  You want Orton to be Mr. America? (Or Midnight Rider, Yellow Dog, Giant Machine, pick your poison).

    ReplyDelete
  47. The WWE is a complete clusterfuck right now. Think about the past few weeks:

    -Stock hits lowest mark ever
-Columnists in Connecticut are killing Linda, lawsuits may start flying
-TNA sued them over Ric Flair
    -Jericho suspended
    -Orton suspended
    -WrestleMania buyrate shifted down
-Raw hits lowest mark since September
    -3-hour Raws on the horizon
-Cena divorce (potentially awful for the company if it gets messy)

This is going to get worse before it gets better.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thought it felt like Orton had been suspended a lot. Turns out it's only #2 but... http://bluebarcage.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/randy-orton-should-be-fired.html

    ReplyDelete
  49. You know how there are guys that are well-respected by their peers and fans alike?  The kind of guy nobody says a bad thing about?
Yeah, that's so not Randy Orton.
I truly hope the guy breaking the news to him worked in "I'll go to the papers if I have to"

    ReplyDelete
  50. Welcome to Scott's Blog of Doom (aka Hive-Mind)... Hope you survive the experience.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The Giant Yellow Midnight American Conquistador Machine #2.

    ReplyDelete
  52. WIth the way he talks and moves around the ring, he most certainly wasn't busted using speed.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Would be cool to see both Jericho and Orton come back from suspensions as a tag team. They're both victims of a conspiracy so they decided to become allies. It might force Orton to finally show some personality and a return to his Nitro roots might freshen Jericho up like his heel turn a few years ago did.

    ReplyDelete
  54. You know, I'm surprised they never did more with the "Who?" character played by Jim Neidhart.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Are we really beyond anybody being busted for steroids anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Not at all because it's the 4th time he's been caught, but only the 2nd time he's been suspended. If they suspended him each time...he'd be on strike 4 and would have to be fired.

    ReplyDelete
  57. POPS!

    ...Yeah I dont know...

    ReplyDelete
  58. I believe it was Bruce Pritchard who nabbed him for the pot-smoking.

    ReplyDelete
  59. ...we are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Existence as you know it is over.

Hey, I bet that's what they'll say to Alex Shelley after he signs that WWE contract.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm less of a shill of somebody else plugs it for me. Gracias!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Kendrick kept gettin fined for weed, and denied rehab and got his release.

    ReplyDelete
  62.  I get the weird feeling that the current teenage generation will be a stumbling block toward legalization in 50 or so years when they're the lucrative voters. Pot has its fans but a lot of teenage-early 20s kids aren't really into it, and deal with anxiety by doing over the counter drugs, legally or illegally. Plus it seems like a lot of young people are getting more and more fiscally conservative, and they aren't going to cotton to anything that's going to add to taxes.

It's gonna take the generation born in the 60s but having grown up in the 70s/80s to age up another 10-20 years before you really see a core group of voters who grew up on drugs when they were younger. There's the baby boomers, but apparently not as many of them were doing drugs as it seemed, or else they're all just hypocrites who wanted to have their fun but don't want to let anyone else have it. Then it'll ride a good wave of people who were born in the 70s or 80s being in favor of legalization before you get these shitheads born in the 90s who'll want to ruin the fun for everyone.

Unless, of course, there's a big backlash to all the prescription drugs that people take for anxiety and depression. Once people that have been using those since they were teenagers realize the damage that shit does to your liver & kidneys long term, you might see some more lobbying for medicinal marijuana as an alternative. I'd damn sure like to see it used in my industry over watching people fade out & die from Risperidone and Haldol.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Pass that shit homie. Don't be stingy.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I just likeified it a second ago...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Maybe he finally got dinged for his habitual peeing into trash cans while in the Gorilla Position.

    ReplyDelete
  66. We all know bignasty96 and Justin Henry are the same person.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Exactly.

Pre-requisites for being accepted on Scott's blog:
    -Love The Rock
    -Hate anything Scott hates
-Go along with with whatever the majority of the posters say
    -Make fun of CaliberWinfield
-Make Simpsons references that The Fuj does not get.
-Spell/Punctuation check everything you write prior to posting.
-Be ready to be called a troll if your views differ with the hive mind.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jesse baker I think considers rope opear his bible.

    ReplyDelete
  69.  I thought Kendrick used to pay his weed fines up front every month, but asked for his release after they made him job to Lawler?

    ReplyDelete
  70. As stale as these cheetos im eating.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'd get into Randy Orton if he got rid of that godawful entrance theme.

    ReplyDelete
  72.  There's plenty of Rock haters here, and plenty of people who disagree with Scott's assertion that Rock should go over everyone. And you're the only one who's a habitually bad speller, but we've all gotten used to it.

However, if you don't get Simpsons references? GTFO. Troll.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't see it that way.  Sure, Orton has been less selfish in the ring since moving to Smackdown, but I still fail to think of anybody who ended up in a better position following a feud with Orton other than Mark Henry.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Do u think some black tar heroine has made its way back on raw tour?

Jk but still wonder what it is?

    ReplyDelete
  75. ...so I said, "look buddy, your car was upside down when we got here. And as for your Grandma? She shouldn't have mouthed off like that!"

    ReplyDelete
  76. Add you to that list. I'm convinced all three of you are the same person.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Nice try to put yourself above suspicion.

    ReplyDelete
  78. im trying to watch the simpsons... it just sucks... although i did laugh at the "mr. snurb" line.

    ReplyDelete
  79. you may be right i get the rehab denials mixed up.

    ReplyDelete
  80. WWF did fine without Stone Cold and the Undertaker for a good chunk of 2000 and 1999. I doubt this will hinder the product at all. It'll get Orton of our screens for a while, and make room for someone new and when he comes back, we'll be like "oh, yay, something new-ish"

I just wish Cena had taken time off after Brock's match, to deal with his divorce, though I guess he's looking for normalcy. But he would've benefited from everyone having a break from him too.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I haven't watched an episode of the Simpsons in at least 10 years. Add me to the list of the people who don't get the references.

    ReplyDelete
  82.  I'm Justin Henry!... er, Spartacus.

    ReplyDelete
  83. ...and then HHH returns to take them it back and be the KING.

    ReplyDelete
  84.  This latest Jesse Baker booking theory made the post worth it.  Don't ever change.

    ReplyDelete
  85.  I don't know.  If you watched the Hall of Fame DVD, Arn basically gives him a blow job from the stage.  Much of the crew seems to respect him as much as Cena these days.  The fact that he gushes over his family (his wife and kid) in every media appearance, the acknowledgement of his faults, and his willingness to job in the last year--I really became a fan of his.

He would half-joke in interviews that he didn't care if he got injured because he'd get to spend more time with his family.  He may not care about this suspension then.

    ReplyDelete
  86.  The only possible solution.  Precisely.

    ReplyDelete
  87.  The 2nd 2006 suspension was due to "misconduct"...

    ReplyDelete
  88.  Um, that Spice/K2 crap is a hundred times more dangerous and can easily be used in inappropriate dosages, causing temporary psychosis (not the wrestler) and other health problems.  Those "lots of places" where it's legal are getting fewer and fewer by the month.

Read up on synthetic pot and other herbs and their dangers because there are a lot of them.

Now, old fashioned pot is okay as far as I'm concerned.  I don't smoke it, though (I prefer the inevitable lung cancer from cigarettes because I'm an idiot).

    ReplyDelete
  89. Is there a chance this leads to Punk getting more time on Smackdown? It's true that Orton really hasn't been involved in a big Smackdown angle since, say, his feud with Barrett, but I think most would still consider him the "face of Smackdown." Will they try to get by with Sheamus/Christian/del Rio/Rhodes as the mainstays of the show or will they move the Punk-AJ-Bryan angle over to SD?

    ReplyDelete
  90. I liked the post. I knew it felt like Orton had been suspended a few times already and you popped up in my Google search. So thank you for documenting.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm ASSUMING this is a joke that sailed over my head...but knowing what a dick Orton is I'm wondering if you're being serious?

    ReplyDelete
  92. The last victims of a conspiracy are practically off the card! haha

    ReplyDelete
  93. I never noticed, but this blog does have really good hive grammar.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Needz moar Helmsley

    ReplyDelete
  95. I thought two of those suspensions were for misconduct and only one was for wellness.

    ReplyDelete
  96.  Or Mark Henry, apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Depends on the state...go to Boulder or Portland, OR and medical dispensaries are literally everywhere and doctors hand out medical marijuana cards like they're driver's licenses.

    ReplyDelete
  98.  Well played.

    ReplyDelete
  99.  I remember RVD making a joke about how he set aside money for the fine ahead of time.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I don't need to read up on it, I know what it does firsthand.

    ReplyDelete
  101.  Well, and Ziggler's too good at taking the RKO not to eat one, so I have a hard time to believe he wouldn't be jobbing.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Why on earth would people start saying that?

    ReplyDelete
  103. That should be Evan Bourne's new gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I thought Orton hated Triple H?

    ReplyDelete
  105.  Well nobody's quoting Simpsons episodes from NOW. It's mostly seasons 3-9. If you came around my place I'd probably strap you to a chair and force you to watch all the seasons with your eyes pried open, Clockwork Orange style.

Your best bet is to try to find a cross reference of any episodes written by John Swartzwelder or George Meyer, and go from there.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Is drunk Murphy it's own poster?  Cause otherwise you're almost as bad as Fuj.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Was out fishing the last few hours (caught a big perch) and just got home, I'll just say this:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Unrelated side note: Fuck you Corasanti! Proof that you can kill someone and get off because you're rich (see Donte Stallworth).

Unrelated side note #2: The Celtics are done. So are the NJ Devils.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Agreed--his previous one was much better.

    ReplyDelete
  109. It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times...

    ReplyDelete
  110. What is the American's fascination with proclaiming something "done" prematurely?

    ReplyDelete
  111. In the recent posts detailing insights into WWE's creative process by a guy that got fired after 3 months there (scroll back a page or 2 on the main page to find them), Ex-Creative Guy said that Orton likes to pee in a garbage can at the Gorilla position before his matches.

    ReplyDelete
  112. None really, just talkin' shit.

    ReplyDelete
  113. see thats the thing... ive downloaded the 3-8 seasons and they just fall so flat for me... there are some good eps but the vast majority is just dull as dishwater to me.

maybe its good i dropped the simpsons when i did... idk...
i gave up on south park after season 2 came back for 10 and watched 3-9 and almost pissed myself in laughter numerous times.

i never watched american dad until i got netflix and its my favorite show.

simpsons...is the definition of meh to me

    ReplyDelete
  114. again... im post how i text on a phone cuz im usually on the phone. i dont have time for apostrophes and commas. i do periods. thats good enough. you get the gist. i didnt know i was being graded for this.

    lay off.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Hang on guys, let the Wellness suspension play out and see where it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  116. If there's a strike 3, do you think they'll have the balls to actually fire him?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Even if they did, couldn't they just hire him back a few months later?

    ReplyDelete
  118. No way they would take the PR hit. The Wellness policy says that after a year, they can re-hire him with 2 strikes.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I don't get why you're taking what people say on the internet seriously.

    Get a grip.

    And a better phone.

    ReplyDelete
  120. That would generate just as much negative PR, if not more, than not firing him.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Because a lot of them can relate to being done prematurely.

    ReplyDelete
  122. And the weird thing is, the PPVs have actually been pretty good almost all year.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Isn't Barrett suppose to be coming back soon or am I way off? I seem to recall they projected he'd be back sometime in the Summer.

    ReplyDelete
  124. As one of those shitheads born in the 90s, I for one am for the legalization.

But I can see them being a road block toward it, long story short "Just Say No" would of worked wonders with the kids of today.

    ReplyDelete
  125. if i were him id hate him... he derailed orton in 04... 07... and 09...

    ReplyDelete
  126. Pretty much all drugs go through waves of popularity (marijuana included) and certainly the political situation around them is contentious, so I think counting on there being enough public support for them to push anything through is betting on the wrong horse -- it would really take the perfect storm type of situation for that to happen in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  127.  What a jam up guy

    ReplyDelete
  128. I'd love to hear McDevitt explain that one to the press.

"He wasn't suspended for drugs, he was suspended for misbehaving...by taking drugs in front of us."

    ReplyDelete
  129. "What is the true identity of Maskman Orton?!"
"Lemme tell ya something, lemma tell ya something Cole. MASK. MAN. ORTON could be ANYBADY, man."
"That's true Booker and OHHH he NAILS Punk with the Maskman KO."
"DATS WHAT I'M TALKING BOUT. Who is dis guy?!"

    ReplyDelete
  130.  I meant that Sheamus is HHH's boy. I know I worded it kinda wonky but read through, it's all there.

    ReplyDelete
  131. When I'm sober I have immaculate spelling, thank you very much. At least I know how to spell "Frederick."

    ReplyDelete
  132. Good news. As you say they had better use this as an opportunity to repackage him as he has reached a whole new level of blandness lately, despite how over he is.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Maybe he refused to take a drug test & that's how they caught him - once it's in the garbage can, it's public domain.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Christopher HirschMay 31, 2012 at 8:48 AM

Addiction is a tough thing to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  135.  I hate you already.

    ReplyDelete
  136.  A joke like this only comes once in a lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  137.  Well to be fair, in 2000 they actually pushed new stars whereas now they're more into repushing the same old stars like Kane and Big Show.

    ReplyDelete
  138. 2006 was when he was busted for smoking pot in the locker room.

    ReplyDelete
  139. That's why he was suspended in 2005.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Why not just put Orton as a high mid carder like his talent always indicated he should be?

    ReplyDelete
  141.  Well depending on the nature of the suspension, looks like he allready has the "high" part down...

    ReplyDelete
  142. Yeah, well at least I know how to spell Murfy.

    ReplyDelete
  143.  That Corasanti trial pisses me off like nothing else since OJ. There was so much f***** proof and the son of a bitch walks. I call bull shit on that. I wanna know how much he paid the jury and judge to let him off. The man is a despicable pile of garbage and I hope he burns in hell.
