Don't wait up...

Working late tonight, plus some extracurricular wackiness in the neighborhood means I'm not going to get a chance to review the HISTORIC RAW 1000 until tomorrow night sometime, so don't wait up constantly refreshing the website.  Unless, you know, that's the kind of thing you want to do.  Although I've had a bunch of e-mails already giving me a rough idea of what I'm in for.

Comments

  1. You're in for tons and tons of wrestling.

    LOL

  2. I think spending $5 million to put HHH over was a wise investment.

    ReplyDelete
  3. That's cool, we sydneysiders don't even get to see it till Wednesday arvo...

    ReplyDelete
  4. Does the neighbourhood wackiness warrant a BONUS RANT!?!

    ReplyDelete
  5. One thing I've always wondered that I've never seen mentioned: what does Scott do?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well Scott, the ending was shocking but about the rest of the show, well let's just say that Tout is the dumbest creation to hit the world since "The Real Cancun" and leave it at that.

  7. Sales supervisor at London Drugs.

  8. Is this where we put our guesses? Or perhaps fantasy booking of Scott's career path? Paging Dr. Jesse Baker...

  9. Hell with Raw, I want to hear about the neighborhood wackiness.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm sick of everyone complaining about the wrestling on the show. TV shows are for building the PPVs, right? Well everyone cried when Nitro 'gave away' Hogan/Berg for free....cuz I guess everyone would rather pay 30 dollars for it. Can't have it both ways.

It was a great show. The best since Raw in Miami after Mania. DX was fun. Brock looked awesome and things were shook up on top of the fed. Punk vs Rocky will rule.

Although I'm sad scotts idea of the mega-team called "Punk Rock" won't be a reality.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's not like it was any big secret to anyone who has me on Facebook.

  12. We had a pair of pre-teen girls, both drunk, knocking on our door at 11:30 at night claiming that a man was following them around the neighborhood in a truck and they didn't want to walk home alone.  And it's not like we live in a well-lit affluent part of the city or anything, so we ended up calling the police.  Why a couple of 10 year old girls were out at that time of night without their parents knowing or caring, and why they were reeking of alcohol, is a conundrum for someone else to figure out.  I will say that this scenario will never, EVER occur with my offspring.

    ReplyDelete
  13. What does Scott do? What doesn't he do? Oh, he does so many things he never stops! Oh, the things he does, my stars...

You don't know what he does, do you?

    Not as such, no.

  14. What's the legal drinking age in Canada? I know your beer is stronger than ours, maybe you let them start drinking earlier too?

That is some wacky, wacky shit.

    ReplyDelete
  15. tons of sports "entertainment" anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That sort of thing is pretty normal in this part of the world. It's also why I hope I never have kids. Just be glad you don't live where I do, the cops here wouldn't do a fucking thing, unless it somehow involved writing money-generating tickets. Seriously, fuck the Tonawanda NY cops.

  20. Uh, do ten year olds normally get drunk in Canada?

  21. Please explain to me why we can't build to PPV matches through other wrestling matches, meant to showcase the wrestlers on the PPV in various combinations, whilst still keeping the match we have to pay for exclusive and desirable.

And if you think this was a shake-up, I must express a profound desire to ingest some of the recreational substances that you have already clearly partaken of. In the main event, the reigning WWE Champion, who has arguably never beaten Cena 'clean', took a visual pinfall after a ref bump, didn't stop interference from a third party, tried to get the pin after said interference, and when that failed, was trapped in a submission hold and only retained his title through a DQ. Oh, and all that happened AFTER Cena had taken the Big Show's finisher during said interference.

Look, I defend some of this crap, a lot of it actually, but one of the main problems that most people, myself included, have with Cena is that he doesn't change, show vulnerability, or otherwise do anything as a character that is below his 'Superman' booking. Explain what tonight did that 'shook that up'?

So what happens next week? Punk comes out and gives some bullshit excuse about how Cena is lording over the rest of the card like a God, that he gets main events while the champ is on the undercard, and he's the best in the world who doesn't care what the fans think. Doesn't that sound suspiciously like last year? Oh, but this year, Punk is the HEEL, so it's different. That main event sucked. Less than 15 minutes for the biggest match in Raw history? Come on. The rest of Raw was fun in spots, but even then, what did we get? HHH in multiple segments, The Rock in multiple segments to let us know not to expect him back until the Royal Rumble at the earliest. I hate to be that guy, I really do, but can you say with a straight face that even HALF of this Raw was used effectively to showcase the talent of the WWE, especially for the viewers that might be tuning in for the first time in a long time based on all the publicity, to see what's going on in wrestling these days?

Defend Raw if you want, but don't try to sell this as anything other than 'business as usual.'

Oh, and if this in toptenguy, I just got trolled, and welcome back.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Whatever he does, he does it in Tom Landry's hat, for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I loved the episode, it was a ton of fun and exactly what I expected. I thought most people on here would've enjoyed it (Punk is a heel/tweener again!), but Scott's comment about the emails probably means it didn't go over well.

Just wondering though: WTF IS UP WITH 1100 COMMENTS IN THE LIVE THREAD?!?!? How does that even happen? Have we ever gotten over 500 comments before? Scott can sarcastically capitalize "historic" all he wants, but clearly people were amped for this show.

    Seriously, 1100?

    ReplyDelete
  24. The complaints were mostly just from a vocal minority in the live thread. Like the same 4-5 guys complaining about something in every segment. Actually hampered my own enjoyment slightly listening to them saying the company will go bust because their favourites didn't win every match and confrontation.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I enjoyed the show.  A little rough in spots, but it was the first time I've been able to watch a three+ hour wrestling television show from start to finish without fast forwarding in a long time.

That said, it will probably be a long time before that happens again...

    ReplyDelete
  26. He motivates his staff with donuts and the promise of more donuts to come.

    ReplyDelete
  27.  Quite a lot of us were just stream of consciousness posting about everything.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My expectations were off the chart and they didn't exceed them but they easily met them. This was my favorite episode of anything in a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah they should probably make the guy that appears 8 times a year the face of the company. Makes perfect sense!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad I didn't read the live thread until after the show. I enjoy berating WWE for their failings as much as anyone, but wow, some people know how to suck the fun out of every little thing.

They filled the three hours well enough, some of it was good, some of it wasn't, and Punk being Punk gets me watching next week.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm not any other poster I just have differing opinions than the general complaints.

What's not new about CM Punk vs The Rock feud? Are you gonna say its "stale" or some other term. It was awesome seeing the Rock mix it up on Raw again! Plus you should like the 'shades of grey' characterization.

I mean he didn't turn heel; he just did his thing and WWE is gonna let us decide. Kinda like in 97'... My favorite time period

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's what I'm saying! Punk was a beast at the end. That match is gonna be a classic. And more Rock in the future is a good thing.

And I really liked Trips and Brock mixing it up. Don't care who wins honestly...I just want a great fight

    ReplyDelete
  33. You mean that it was a great fucking show?

    ReplyDelete
  34. And there was a concerted effort to get over 1000 posts for the 1000th RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Was anyone else surprised by the age of the people that they used in their tout segments? I was expecting 10-15 year olds, but instead we got a lot older folks.

I mean, I don't want to rag on anyone for being passionate, and it's not like I didn't watch the whole three hours how and marked the hell out for CM Punk's heel turn AND Mae Young's bouncy baby hand, but damn, that's some fandom right there.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm in the UK, so I'm normally asleep for live Raws, but happened to be around for this one. They did a good job of gradually chipping away at my energy and I went to bed about three seconds after making AJ the GM.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Isn't it obvious? He went out at night to save kids...

    ..he's the GODDAMNED Batman.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I enjoyed the show last night. Wasn't as good as I expected -- no Austin?!? -- but it was entertaining.

The real problem the WWE has, I think, is that CM Punk vs. The Rock is about a million times more interesting at this point than Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H. Which means I'm really looking forward to the Royal Rumble & have ZERO interest in SummerSlam.

And no, Charlie Sheen vs. Daniel Bryan isn't going to change that.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Raw was okay.  Certainly watchable combined with all of the modern day distractions like complaining about it on Internet.  Tout is fine for what it is, but remember, it's not that Tout sucks, it's WWE pushing it down our throats.  Vince and WWE just can't stop with the social medias.  I first heard of Tout when Shaq was promoting it last year while recovering from injury with the Celtics.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Im surprised anyone would do a Tout.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So wanting more wrestling equals wanting the match of the year for free? How do you make that leap?

    ReplyDelete
  42. This tout thing is threatening to shatter any and all unintentional comedy records. My god the people they put on there almost shamed me into never watching wrestling again.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Once again wwe is one year late on a pop culture reference.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I wonder if they were fake.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It was a solid C show

    ReplyDelete
  46. Canadian things.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Appears 8 times a year? You mean Triple H, yes?

Putting a part-time over a part-timer makes most sense based on who the audience will be most thrilled to see win. On the one hand there's Brock Lesnar, larger-than-life, gone from WWE for years. On the other hand there's Triple H who, like him or not, has had such a long and prominent run in the WWE that he's in arguably had more than enough exposure and now is primarily an office guy.

It'd be like WCW managing to steal back Austin in 1999, and then putting Paul Orndorff over him, were HHH to beat Brock.

Although neither of them is the face of the company. I don't know where you pulled that from.

Did anyone else catch Daniel Bryan backstage talking to four guys in white as they cut out for commercial?  Lawler and Cole questioned who they were and noted they weren't wearing tuxedos, so they weren't groomsmen.  What was interesting to me is that they looked like they were dressed as hospital orderlies.  After seeing that I fully expected the twist to be that Bryan was going to have AJ committed for being a crazy bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The original argument was that lesnar should've gone over cena. Which is just moronic. I agree he should go over trips. And if last night was an indication, so do they.

    ReplyDelete
  50. 1. 30 dollars???

    2. For whatever its worth supposedly the ppvs build to raw now.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Rock won't be on tv again for 5 months.

  52. MOAR SPORTZ ENTERTAINMENT

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah but they're telling stories.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Where did he say that? Dougie are you using a strawman? You rascal.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It was weird they never explained that.

  56. Batman has no jurisdiction in Cananda.

    He is Batroc Ze Leaper

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think it was due to that one guy constantly posting "just 33 more posts guys we can do it!!!" Like a goof.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Im just gonna jump in first on the "Punk shouldnt job to a part-timer."

But the funnier argument if it ever comes up is "Punk fighting Rock and he is still gonna be a mid carder...."

    Cena vs Rock = WM
Punk vs Rock = Rumble.... maybe...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Either it'll be expanded on next week (or Smackdown), or it was just to throw us off the scent. If it was the latter, it definitely worked on me cause I was expecting the same payoff as you.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 8:55 AM

Yes, thought the same thing. Maybe it will go somewhere at some point? Or maybe it was just to reinforce that Bryan was a heel and a jerk that AJ shouldn't marry?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 8:56 AM

Glad I fast forward through all the Tout nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sadly, they're getting more timely. I remember when they mocked the OJ chase at WrestleMania 12 -- a full TWO years after it happened.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Yeah, kinda surprised some people on here didn't like it. There was nostalgia out the ass, which is what it seems a lot of people on here want.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Yeah, I barely fast forwarded through it, only zipped through the Tout segments.

    ReplyDelete
  65. We will stop trying to ruin your enjoyment of the show. After all, it's obviously an inconvenience for you to come to a wrestling blog and have all these other people spouting opinions contrary to your own.

My sincerest apologies for the travesty of discussion last night.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 8:58 AM

That is the entire reason I don't look at live threads.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 8:59 AM

I'm becoming cautiously optimistic that Lesnar will beat Triple H and not just beat him, but beat the shit out of him.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 9:04 AM

Thoughts on the show, was real cool to see all of DX minus Chyna. Does X-Pac no longer have a voice and that is why he didn't speak except to skeeve Trish out? I thought when they were doing the Triple H/Trish stuff that Steph might walk in but they saved her for later. I enjoyed all the nostalgia for one night and was excited and completely surprised by the Punk heel turn. I remember people on here last week talking about turning Punk heel and I thought that was completely off base, but they pulled it off well.

Poor Jack Swagger, thought they were building to a feud with him and Ryback after last week, but now not sure what the point of that was?

I would prefer no GM but I enjoy AJ so I am fine with her as GM. Cool see to Daniel Bryan mix it up with the Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "Love" is probably too strong a word for me to use (I loved the post-Mania Raw and this one wasn't as good), but it was a very good show. I'd go B+.

Nice, unexpected payoff to the wedding (I think most of us were thrown off by the "men in white"). Great, unexpected turn by Punk that'll lead to some great feuds (possibly even Punk/Austin). Great use of the Legends (and nice to see all of DX minus Chyna). For a 3 hour show I barely fast-forwarded (just the Brodus stuff).

No Austin was weird, and I'm reserving judgement on Brock/HHH. I liked the segment they did, except the end with Brock backing off (although the smile redeemed it a bit).

    ReplyDelete
  70. Its harsh world up north.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Not one person in the live thread said the wwe was going out of business. Most people were horrified about aj becoming gm, and dissapointed in the lack of wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have to admit I lol'd at the idea of someone losing enjoyment of the show because the live thread was too negative. He could have not read it or posted positive comments to combat the alleged negativity.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Am I the only one that believes that this was not a "heel turn" in the classic sense?  I think we're looking at a CM Punk who will return to the mood/character he was in pre-MITB last year.  A lot less smiling babyface/love triangle participant and a lot more telling people straight up what he thinks of them whether they are Big Show or John Cena.  I think he's simply offended that The Rock can just show up and trump him, as the Champ, and so he took it out on Rock last night.

Whether starting shit with Rock "turns him heel" is actually up to the fans.  It didn't appear that Punk's attitude shift had anything to do with Cena personally or anybody else, it had to do with keeping his title and keeping it off The Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  74. He could be one of the new members of Batman Inc...or Dudley Do Right. He was a Mountie.

    ReplyDelete
  75. >it's not that Tout sucks, it's WWE pushing it down our throats

They gotta make their investment back somehow.

That said, I'd say the shameless sponsor plugging by Cole and King (the Sonic drinks and those WWE dolls) during those show ended up being more obnoxious than the Tout plugs IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah, I proudly boasted in the "pre-game" thread that "there's no way they turn Punk heel", lol!  Guess this old wrestling fan got swerved and I liked it.  Punk's had his real personality dampened for way too long and it will be good to hopefully see him back to form and spew venom from that "pipebomb".

As for the show, I found it average with some fun stuff (DX) and some painful stuff (the wedding segment).  The Punk heel turn saved it in the end for me.  Oh, and seeing Rocky interacting with Bryan was gold Jerry, gold.

    ReplyDelete
  77. There's a difference between spouting contrary opinions and being *that* guy. The guy in the cinema that keeps saying "Oh yeah right like THAT would ever happen" every 5 minutes until everyone nearby enjoys it as little as him. Look around this thread and there's already been a few people glad that they didn't read those comments live.

Besides the constant barrage of "Fuck this" comments for every minor incident throughout the show, we also were called morons if we enjoyed Raw. There's getting an opinion across and there's hyperbolic barrages of negativity which add nothing to the conversation or show. Compare last nights thread to, for example, the last PPV live thread and the atmosphere was like night and day.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I posted throughout the night, almost always positive.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think the bigger story here is how the hell DDP got from St. Louis to Canada by truck quickly enough to stalk those girls.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I really, really hope that you're right. If Punk's just another heel, I give up.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 9:59 AM

Also, noticed that Michael Cole was waaaaaay toned down last night. Wonder if that is a new direction. Liked the new graphics, looked very modern and cool.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Again, at this point, their unwillingness to turn Cena is beyond absurd. CM Punk, up until last night, was the top face in the company, unanimously loved by all their fans; mark, smark, male, female, kid, adult. Cena, as the other top face, gets booed constantly.

Now, I don't claim to be a business man, but who would you turn in that scenario? Both sell merchandise, but one has a DVD on the way and is on the cover of the company video game coming out later in the year?

And again, kids will cheer whoever you tell them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I do recall being one of the people that said "fuck this" and it was in relation to "Nipple H" laying out Lesnar. That and the AJ-as-new-GM thing were two of the worst developments in a long time. Live threads are for knee-jerk responses and the knee-jerk response was to call it for the bullshit it was.

    ReplyDelete
  84. My own pros and cons:

+ Opening segment, but it started to drag
+ The Rock going off on D-Bry and Punk
    + Heath Slater
    + Lita
    + Sean Mooney
    + Ziggler/Jericho interaction
+ Punk lays out The Rock

    - Brock getting beat up by Triple H
    - Stephanie talking
    - Stephanie beating up Paul Heyman
    - The wedding SWERVE
    - 7 minutes of Punk and Cena
    - Big Show getting involved

    Meh:

    Brothers of Destruction
    The Miz

    ReplyDelete
  85. This is why I was so adamant about not thinking that Punk would go heel before the show.  He was, despite being booked clearly under Cena, the #1 babyface as far as unanimous reactions (again, compared to Cena).  His merch sales were nothing to sneeze at either.  I guess at the end of the day, Vince still doesn't trust anyone else at the top aside from Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Clearly they want Cena as their face (meant both as wrestling good guy, and as in face of the company).

I agree with everything you said, and think it's crap that Punk got turned. It's clear to me that John Cena's whitebread look is what Vince wants front & center because it's apparently 1960.

I really wonder if the nerdy kids like Cena. Jocks I get, he's one of them. But do the comic book reading, WOW playing crowd like him? Do kids like that even watch wrestling anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  87. The only real misstep was how they payed off the Bryan/AJ wedding/GM angle. You're going to take one of the worst actors on your roster and make her the GM? Ok...

And I kinda hated the whole Steph/HHH/Heyman promo but it was redeemed when Brock came out. Brock looks ripped and I'm expecting a great match at SS even if the end result will suck.

And I thought for sure Heyman was going to be named the GM in exchange for dropping the lawsuits. But I guess that would have been too awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  88. See, now you really ruined it for me.  Heyman as the GM didn't even cross my mind.

AJ as the GM, God bless her heart, could be one of the biggest train wrecks in Raw history - potentially.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Plus it gives them an easy out on why Brock would keep getting high profile matches if he loses to HHH.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Christopher HirschJuly 24, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Austin posted a blog saying he wasn't there because he just had knee surgery and is on crutches.

    ReplyDelete
  91. It takes 2 to tango, who's to say Heyman would *want* to come back as an authority figure? He seems content with his life away from wrestling and only came back temporarily cause of Brock.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I really don't understand the hate for AJ's acting. I think she's tremendous in the role she plays. She may get overexposed at times, but that's not on her. Who in professional wrestling is a better actor? Who could do a better job at this role than her?

Follow-up question: what do you think of Dean Ambrose's "acting". I think the guy is fantastic for a pro wrestler but he *is* a pretty terrible actor by real world standards. He comes off as a Heath Ledger wannabe who hams it up.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yeah, I just couldn't stand seeing Brock beat up by HHH. Shouldn't the angle be that Triple H, at 40+ years old and out of the ring regularly for 18 months, is up against the wall? Brock should've kicked the shit out of him last night.

    ReplyDelete
  94. exodus316 exodus316July 24, 2012 at 10:54 AM

Agreed on AJ.  I think she is fantastic in the role and is putting the alleged "professional actress" playing Claire Lynch to shame.

My only beef with AJ is that I find her hot but then hate myself for it because she looks 14.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I think you hit on something that I was kinda circuling in my comments, it's not that her acting sucks (by wrestling standards), it's the role she's been put in is nothing but Fail at this point.  She has zero chance that the fans take her seriously as an authority figure.  I'm hoping this is just a quick thing, maybe until the next ppv.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Kids don't cheer whoever you tell them to. Far from it.

If that were true my kids would be all over Cena, instead they're completely bored with him and think Brodus is the biggest star in history.

    ReplyDelete
  97. From the reviews the show sounded awful, glad I missed it to go watch Bizarro-Ichiro-In-A-Yankee-Jersey instead.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Who else do your kids like, and do you have any clue as to why?

I'm not trying to condescend, it's just after being fed the line about kids love Cena for what seems like 25 years, it's real interesting to hear your first hand counter-argument.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Aj as gm=fuck this

    ReplyDelete
  100. I do like Punk as a heel, I just think they turned the wrong guy heel, John Cena's definitely the one who should have turned.

What WWE did last night would be like if WCW decided to make Sting the 3rd man and kept Hogan as the same stale "babyface" who got booed anywhere that isn't located in Florida. It would have killed the storyline right out of the gate.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I haven't seen enough of Ambrose to say one way or the other. But as for people who could do a better job than AJ? Point to almost anyone else on the roster and you'll find someone better. Her "acting" is nothing more than making...really...weird...long...pauses...that...make...no...sense...the...only...reason...she...does...it...is...because...she...thinks...she...is...being...dramatic

    ReplyDelete
  102. That kind of stuff never bothers me. I don't understand why people get worked up because a guy gets clotheslined out of the ring. It doesn't prove anything either way.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Well, full disclosure my six-year-old basically decides who the whole family likes (my daughter and other son just sort of follow along as they're too young to really give a shit)

Initially we started watching for the Rock comeback. Kids in general seem to love the Rock, but not for any of his catchphrases or his "wrestling" ability. They love him because of Witch Mountain and the Journey movie. He's fucking *HUGE* in the kids market because of those movies.

So we came back for Rock, and in the mean-time they became huge fans of Brodus, Taker, Santino and yes, John Cena.

The kicker though is that, by the night after Extreme Rules my son had *completely* turned on Cena and fans of Brock Lesnar! My son justifies it with "Brock Lesnar is stronger and better". In his mind, Brock totally won that match and his allegiance hasn't wavered since (it probably doesn't help that I've showed him some old Brock on YouTube)

Now his Top 3 are Brock, Aries, Brodus (with Santino and Cara/Mysterio right behind)

My point though, is that if my kids cheered whoever they were told they'd be fans of Punk/Bryan/Ziggler/Joseph Park or any of the other guys I routinely mark out for when we watch the show. Instead most of their choices are for guys that I will audibly say "Blech" to whenever they come on screen.

On the flip side of my argument though, we've only been watching since about the Rumble so they don't have the years and years of Cena being on top that some fans have. I wouldn't be surprised if most 11 year olds that have been watching Cena for 5-6 years already are still huge fans. My kids started out as fans already distrustful of him because he was fighting Rocky, then they liked him for a month, then he got smashed by the monster.

It's hard to figure out six-year-old boy logic, often it isn't logic and it can change in seconds. I just know that, under no circumstances, will he like something (a show, a song, a character) based on me liking it, even if I like it A LOT (Hi Punk)

  105.  Agree 100%. And her expanding role is making it even worse. In tiny doses, you can shrug off her pauses and the like. But when she's taking up multiple segments, it's just death.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Interesting. I had no idea how much of a niche Rock had carved out for himself doing kids movies.

In regards to "cheer who you tell them to," I think the original poster meant, whoever the WWE gets behind as their top face, the kids will follow suit. Like they want it to be Cena, so they make Cena look strong & kids cheer. So with that logic, if they had CM Punk "overcoming the odds" week in/week out, young kids would prob cheer him like they do Cena.

But I  too probably would go against whoever my dad was cheering if he watched wrestling when I was 6.

  107. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree ("I don't agree with that!" "Neither do I!"). I think she's a fantastic performer, and I think her being as over as she is (as well as the angle being over) is a testament to that.

    ReplyDelete
  108. "These...pretzels...are...making...me...thirsty!"

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yeah it's weird, on one hand I could see that logic but on the other, they're huge fans of Aries and I mark harder for him than anyone.

I think the WWE thinks whoever they push will be the kids favorite but from what I can see it doesn't appear to be true.

And even in my own life I remember being a MUCH bigger fan of Macho than Hogan. I hated Hogan as an eight-year-old.

I just know they basically hate Cena and I couldn't be happier. The 2 months or so that I had to be pro-Cena were fucking excruciating.

    ReplyDelete
  110. You sure did and you had to keep defending it, lol.  Good call.

That diving clothesline on the Rock literally made me jump out of my seat at home.

  111. Well, at 38, I feel comfortable saying that Ichiro's best years are probably behind him.  He's been pretty bad this year anyways.

It's a shame that the ownership never really invested in other star players to put around Ichiro.

I haven't read anything on the trade, was Ichiro for it or did the Mariners just want to get something for him at this point?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Ichiro asked for it a few weeks ago, essentially it was his way of saying "Hey, either I'm going somewhere in the offseason or maybe you can get something for me now."

I don't blame him at all, certainly. He wasted 10 years of his career in a 'Never Gonna Contend' city, he's one of the greatest hitters of all time so he deserves to at least get to *sniff* a Series.

It was just weird. Too fucking weird. The trade was announced and he was in SafeCo in a Yankees jersey within like three hours. I had to go, it was the weirdest game since Griffey left.

As I said on Twitter last night though, "Don't worry Seattle, we still have the Miami Heat!"

    ReplyDelete
  113.  Well, she can't be as bad as Mike Adamle was.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hey!  I'm a Heat fan!  :-)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Well, the entire Northwest just jumped your the bandwagon now (I was ahead, I jumped on after The Decision. My team is DEAD, might as well follow the best player in history)

I'm so jealous. You're going to routinely get to watch teams try to double team The Big Two just to see them pass outside to THE GREATEST THREE POINT SHOOTER EVER.

Just take all the rings now.

  116. Boston really should have tried harder to keep Ray Allen, if for no other reason than to not have to play against him.

They were going to pay him more than Miami was, how much harder did they need to try?

Celtics offered more money and the chance to stay in New England.  Ray turned them down.  He was upset about not starting anymore and that Rondo felt Avery Bradley was a better option at shooting guard.  Ray kept it professional but he wasn't coming back to Boston.

As a Celtics fan I like Ray and I wish him the best.  That said, I am not worried about playing him in the future.

  119. Punks not pretty enough to sell on a game.

The proof is right in your face. You dont see his whole face. Its shrouded in darkness. It covers his many (gaudy) tattoos, but shows the "straight-edge" one just to let you know that WWE is on the up and up.

    Want further proof?

Variant covers to a video game!?

They did the same thing Samoa Joe during his TNA title run. Covered him up, or hid him behind promo art on the dvds.

  120. looking thru the comments. more aj backlash...

    lol...

    ReplyDelete
  121. Fuck the Police and Ryan says it with authority, cause the Irish on the street is a majority.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Well, they kept the title on Punk, so that's a good thing. If it's just Punk being more assertive and rightfully being pissed that he's been the WWE Champion but over-looked in favor of Cena, Big Show, and now The Rock, cool. Let him just feel how he feels and let the fans decide how they feel about him....but I really hope they didn't just turn him so they can finally settle the Punk/Cena rivalry the way these things always end up settled - Cena's the better man in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  123. LOL, I couldn't let up. My party started at about 2 pm yesterday.

    I'm still feeling the pain.

    ReplyDelete
  124.  And hammocks. Don't forget hammocks.

  125. Yuck with this Heat talk.

    GO BULLS.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Jabber2 you loooooooove you some aj! I actually had no problem with how they used her last night. One segment and one backstage spot. Thats fine. I'm very worried vkm is about to turn raw into the aj show.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Re: her acting skills. She stinks but outside of rock and maybe foley no one they ever had could act. But most guys can cut promos (sandow, punk, bryan etc.) which is not acting but its entertaining. Aj doesn't get to cut promos. Due to the angle she's forced to act, torn and crazy. She is forced into that spot by the story and because Creative sucks they lean on her too much so we end with her acting on half the show. I hate it.

Or in the legendary words of john cena, "aj's acting is poopy pee pee pants."

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ambrose hasn't really "acted" enough to say so, he's done more old-fashioned promos than anything. He hams it up a little but it's an interesting character, given time to live with it and some lines fed to him by the writers we could judge better, but I think he'll grow into it.

Ambrose as AJ's crazy ex would be such a perfect way to introduce him.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Its annoying because huntor and Stephanie buried him on the mic and then huntor won the confrontation. If it wasn't the guy who booked himself over goldberg when he was hurt, booker t when it was unjustifiable and murdered randy ortons first push on a whim we wouldn't care as much. Its just that hhh is going over at summerslam and the angle has sucked so far.

  130. Still one of the best Simpsons episodes. Especially where Homer asks Mr. Scorpio if has any sugar for his coffee and Scorpio just pulls a big pile of sugar out of his pocket.

"Here you go, sorry it's not in packets. You want some cream?"
    "Umm... no."

    ReplyDelete
  131. And here's the news story about it:

  132. I love that it's some weird alternate universe where Homer was going to be amazing at his job and the rest of the family just completely failed at their new lives. And I loved that the town they moved to was called Cypress Creek, because that was the name of my high school and I'm very easy to please.

  133. "I'm from Canada so they think I'm slow..."

  134. I love the comic book Simpsons where Homer gets bitten in the head by a radioactive spider, giving him super intelligence, and goes on to master the science of donuts to the point where he realizes that they they can be harnessed into an unlimited energy source.

    ReplyDelete
  135. He's really selling that GTS!

    ReplyDelete
  136.  I have a Simpsons comic-book themed calendar, and last month's actually featured Hank Scorpio.

My wife has a Simpsons action figure 3 set featuring Homer, Edna Krabappel, and Apu as hero alter-egos from the comics. Pretty much why I married her.

  137.  So if we're ever in Saskatoon we know where to find you.

  138.  Hopefully next week AJ points out that she knew Bryan was attempting to have her committed, and she uses that to fuck with him in Charlie Sheen related ways.

    ReplyDelete
  139.  If they haven't been watching long you might not have run into it yet, but I've always wondered: do your kids know what wrestling moves are called? I mean, Cole & Lawler never say the names of any moves except finishers, so do they know what a powerbomb or a bodyslam or a suplex are? I was always proud of knowing all the names of moves as a kid, I'd feel lost watching these days.

  142. A few more weeks and Tout will have enough material for its own Botchamania.

  143. That Johnny Ace cover should've been the video game cover.  That thing rocked.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I think there's some substance to this.  As a kid in 1995, I loved Bob Holly.  I liked Bret Hart too, but Bob Holly was my #1 favorite wrestler.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Absolutely.  I learned the moves from Gorilla Monsoon, WWF Magazine when Keith Elliot Greenburg did the write ups for the pay-per-views, and even Vince (even if 50%+ of his calls where "whatamanuever!")

    ReplyDelete
  146. It's the new direction until next week's show when he'll be back doing the same old shtick.  Keep in mind that there are some shows where Cole is toned down and then he goes nuts for 2-3 shows.  That bit with the brawling buddies or whatever they call those things with Lawler was pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  147. You mean that wasn't Piper chasing after Goldust after all?

    (Sarcasm)

    ReplyDelete
  148. I could see that happening at the Rumble.  Punk-Rock fight in the midcard and Cena's Rumble victory goes on last.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I think you missed my point.

But I see where you are going with it. You're treating the Rumble as it is a Big 4 PPV.

Im treating it as a B show PPV, whereas WM is THE SHOW.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Nobody else finds it irritating that Rock is booking himself into matches in January...when it's still July???   It wouldn't be as bad if we didn't just have to wait a year for his last challenge match.

Who knows?    AJ could be the champ by January.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Oh wow. Fascinating!

I asked him what his favorite moves are and he told me "the slam, the pad-e-gree, and when they kick guys".

So yeah...hahahaha...they don't really know. When he wrestles with his friends they mostly just do punch/kick which is kind of sad, when I was little I was all about the Sharpshooter, Boston Crab and the Figure Four.
