Comments

  1. I remain disappointed in this listing.

    ReplyDelete
  2. What a random match listing. Some nice gems in there, especially the Backlund/Bret match from Superstars. Although a lot of the matches are TV matches from the WWE era that I cannot remember. Can't see a lot of demand for this one.

They should just release that epic 23-minute YouTube video of every Stunner ever.

    ReplyDelete
  3. RKO:  11
    Diamond Cutter:  41

    Fuck this list.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Fuck this list sideways with a small foreign car.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Bonus: Billy Kidman Shooting Star Press - Kidman had one of the worst SSP's I've seen couldn't they have put Evan Bourne or Marc Mero on there for that move?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Christopher HirschJuly 30, 2012 at 10:15 AM

Rob Van Dam & Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Brock Lesnar & Eddie GuerreroRaw - 3rd June, 2002

That sounds like a random match pairing, anyone remember this one?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Tyler Reks on a DVD release, holy crap!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Why is Lita's moonsault ahead of Bam Bam Bigelow's?  Why is Sting's Scorpion Death Lock at 36 but Bret Hart's Sharpshooter at 10?  What criteria are they using to make this list?  How many matches they won using that move?  I'm surprised Triple H didn't politic himself up to #1 on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Damn!  I just noticed his match is a blu-ray exclusive.  So he didn't even make the DVD!  Oh well maybe he'll get a few bucks for the tens of people that buy this one on blu-ray.

  10. I don't care if your an Edge fan or not but  Id  put Rhyno's Gore as a more impressive finisher then Edge's spear.
Two Frog splashes seems a bit redundant, should have just had a frog splash entry and discussed the merits of each.
Rey Mysterio - 6-1-9 on a "Greatest" list? also having Starship Pain even as an Honorable mention is a bit stupid since it was executed with the accuracy of a blind javelin thrower with Parkinson's.
Over all Id rather type "best finishers" into youtube and save the money.

  11. I think it's a fun enough list, I don't really care where they rank the moves, I think the subject is good for a dvd with some talking heads discussin the impact and entertainment value in the different finishers and WWE has been insanely focussed on the finishers since the 80's so it likely fits great with the audience.

Some thoughts: It's weird not to have Ultimate Warrior's splash on it tho, I know it sucked but it's part of their history. Also too bad they couldn't name Bam Bam's Greetings from Ashbury Park on it instead of the Bam Bam sault, but I guess it's copyrightet... and is that Bam Bam Sault even his finisher, I thought it was just a move he could execute well, like the British Bulldog?

    ReplyDelete
  12.  42. Bam Bam Bigelow - MoonsaultThat one surprised me; did Bam Bam every even use his Moonsault in WWF?  I only remember him finishing with the Diving Headbutt.  I know Vader introduced his against a jobber before he took on HBK at Summerslam; but I also don't remember him actually hitting it on any notable occasions.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That is a point Bam Bam used Greetings from Asbury Park which was a type of pile driver

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think they were the final four going into the King of the Ring PPV.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ironically Tyler Reks actually has a finisher (or at least had, back when he got to win matches) that probably beats over half the moves on the list--The Torture Rack DDT.  I don't think he got to use it in the Survivor Series match though.

    ReplyDelete
  16.  4. The Rock - Rock Bottom / Peoples ElbowI know they're just wedging it in there, but the Bottom and the Elbow were very seldom paired.  The Elbow usually came after the Spinebuster while if Rock hit the Bottom he usually went right for the pin.  Wrestlemania XVIII was, of course, a notable exception.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah, VanDam was tearing it up weekly with a freshly returned Eddie.  And Bubba was getting his first singles push as a tough guy, and roughing up Brock Lesnar every week.

    ReplyDelete
  18. HHH ahead of Rock?  You don't say....  :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. His move is as close to the burning hammer as we'll ever see.  Pretty bad ass.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AfaATYmbpQ

    BURNING HAMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. BURNING HAMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. They are trying to promote their stars, can you blame them? But I agree with you 100%. A slap in the face to anyone who knows their history.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It says a lot when a Bob Backlund match from 1994 might be the most memorable bout on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  23.  When he first started pinning guys with the elbow, it usually followed the Rock Bottom (because in those days, he was using a slam as the setup for the elbow).  The spinebuster / Elbow combination came later.

(Didn't he use the Rock Bottom followed by the elbow to win the title at Backlash 2000?)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bam Bam introduced it as his finish shortly after being paired up with Luna.  If memory serves, he used it on Superstars as a "gift" to her and named it the Lunasault.

I think the most notable non-jobber usage is hitting it against LT at WMXI, but then hurting his knee on the pinfall (I might be mixing that up with the headbutt, since LT somehow was booked to survive both of Bam Bam's finishers).

    ReplyDelete
  25.  Bam Bam never used the Greetings as his finisher in the WWF, though.  He was using the moonsault throughout 1994.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Except for Chaz, who actually used the Burning Hammer as his finisher.  That's why it's in Wrestlemania 2000.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Kidman works as an agent and isn't blacklisted or about-to-be-furtured-for-multiple-drug-failures, so... no.

If Brock had hit the SSP at WM, then you'd have a justifiable issue.

    ReplyDelete
  28. To have a finisher, you have to win matches

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yokozuna got screwed.

at least in kayfabe, the Banzai Drop is pretty much the most lethal finishing move ever. you might get up after a Stunner, a Pedigree or a Rock Bottom. but you won't get up after Yokozuna hits the Banzai (well, except of course if you are the Undertaker. but HE'S NOT HUMAN!).

    ReplyDelete
  30. Threadjack: Vince is scummy, but we already knew that.

    http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/news/248603/New-Details-on-the-%5C%27Badstreet-USA-Lawsuit-Against-WWE,-Jim-Johnston-and-Michael-Hayes.htm

    ReplyDelete
  31. Spinarooni?!?!? I don't remember anyone being beaten by that particular breakdancing move...

    ReplyDelete
  32. The match selection is more than a little disappointing. No Road Warriors match? No match with Savage being a wrestler and not a ref? Whoever put together this match listing should be fired for incompetence.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Because Bret's was better executed.  No clue on Bam Bam/Lita.  I'm really surprised the moonsault is even listed as Bammer's finish because I associate him more with the diving headbutt and Greetings from Asbury Park.

    ReplyDelete
  34. As soon as anybody heard Mark Madden yell "SPINAROONI", they were down for the count

    ReplyDelete
  35.  Also, he was doing it before Mero and (obviously) Bourne, so for many fans watching back then (like me), it was their first exposure to it. Besides, when he first came out, he actually performed it better. Of course, he was about 95 pounds back then (this was before he joined up with Raven).

    ReplyDelete
  36. Much like the 'Falls Count Anywhere' set, at this point the WWE is running out of premises for their DVD sets, and just coming up with any excuse to release unreleased-on-a-DVD-set matches. Which works for me, as I like being able to watch stuff on a DVD/Blu-Ray rather than YouTube.

Next set: ' Top 50 Wrestlers with Vowels in their Name'

    ReplyDelete
  37. Top 50 Titantrons is slated for an October release.

    ReplyDelete
  38.  Or "Top 3 Scramble matches in WWE History"

    ReplyDelete
  39.  Imagine how pissed off dude will be when he finds out wwf released a single 3 years later called "Slam Jam"

    ReplyDelete
  40. Word is that a Top 50 Time-Wasting, No-Talent Skits set is in the works.

    ReplyDelete
  41.  That's good Bam Bam knowledge, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Top 50 Greatest Matches Where the Finish is One Guy has His Opponent Pinned but then the Music of the Guy with Whom He's Feuding Starts Playing and He Get's Distracted Allowing the Opponent to Recover and Hit His Finisher for the Victory

Of course if that set sells well, we'll probably get the Top 100 Greatest Roll-Ups as well.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I didn't realize he hit it against LT, that's kind of cool.  I guess I must not have seen a lot of Bam Bam from that period.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I always preferred the Liger style SSP where he tucks his knees in, supposedly it's harder to do it Kidman's way but I think the Liger way gets more height. Kidman was pretty much the first to popularize the untucked style, iirc.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I always wonder, is people's love for that move solely because of its name? If it was called a Flipping Featherduster would people still think it was a badass move? Conversely, if some butt-simple move like a running forearm were called Burning Hammer, do people think that move is more impressive than it is just based on the cool name? I'd bet on that, because some people seem to be impressed with the Axe Bomber.

    ReplyDelete
  46.  I'm not a Vince defender but jeez, I'm sure this was just some screwup in the legal department that Vince never even heard about. I think some people really have this mental image of Vince doing everything WWE related himself, even cleaning the toilets in Titan Towers.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey guys, one hour until rassling!

    ReplyDelete
  48. What? No Goldust - Shattered Dreams?

    ReplyDelete
  49. #51: Sid Vicious jumping off the top turnbuckle.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Friggin' love it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Seriously? Cuz I'd totally buy that.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Feinstein actually had 250K?!?!

I really need to go into the shitty shoot interview biz.

    ReplyDelete
  53. How did I get here? Skip it: The AJ Lee story
