Blade Job??

It seemed pretty obvious during the match although I couldn't actually see him doing it.  There hasn't been any backlash against him because of it, so he probably Bret Hart-ed his way out of it.  Or else he was told to do it.

Comments

  1. Seems like a weird angle to blade for. Should have saved it for something epic.

  2. So is Wrestlezone a refutable news source now?

    ReplyDelete
  3. He's in a cage with the King.  A little blood only makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I seriously doubt he bladed. The blood was coming from the middle-to-back part of his head and running down his head on to his forehead. As a trained professional wrestler of 14 years, who's done his share of blading, I can say with confidence that it's not normal to blade the top part of your head. Forehead, or just above the hair line on the forehead are the common areas. Also, if he did blade, he wouldn't have wasted it and wiped it all off on his wrist tape.

Colt Cabana also posted a picture on Twitter of Punk getting stitched up, and the doctor was working on the back part of his head. I'm pretty sure it was hardway.

  5. Maybe Punk was playing games with WWE brass. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to do something like this to see what he can get away with.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I totally caught him doing it. As Lawler throws him into the cage, he brings his hand up to his face, and it was pretty obvious he continued to cut himself on the mat after it didn't bleed like he wanted it to. Then he wiped it all off right before the pinfall so they could make PG Video Packages after the fact, I'm sure.

I remember when he got busted open the the Hair vs Mask match at Over the Limit agaist Mysterio they never showed any clips or Video Packages after the match because of the blood, they just showed one still frame.

  7. Punk is a Memphis guy, can't blame him for wanting to cut himself in a cage match against freaking Jerry 'The King'. That's once in a life time stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Don't think of it as lying to WWE brass about blading. Think of it as TELLING STORIES to them.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ha, yea the reason I asked this question is because Im at the part of wm 8 in brets book, and how flair got reemed a new asshole for it and bret got off scott free.

    ReplyDelete
  10. the took it from f4w...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Also, he has the out of "Jerry Lawler was always insanely stiff".

    ReplyDelete
  12. markboard - markboard, like queering, doesnt make the world work.

    -ultimate warrior.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think they all should all start blading and slowly but surely bring back the ATTITUDE ERA and by the time Vince notices everyone's been bleeding it will be too late, Attitude era already back

    ReplyDelete
  14.  It goes to show you that a "nothing match" to us can be considered, as you mentioned, a once in a lifetime epic for a wrestler.

Kind of makes me wonder about matches that I've shit on or seen as nothing being a billion times more important to one or both of the participants.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Did Cena do it at Extreme Rules?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Given how far behind he is and how little he seems to remember about his own product, I'm half expecting Vince to discover the Attitude Era any day now and copy it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Part of me thinks it would be tough to blade by accident - if they wanted to find out for sure they could go through the various camera angles to catch him.

On the other hand, Jerry Lawler old school and has been in bloody brawls, Punk has an old school mentality, and it's a cage match...

  19. Anything that's on Wrestlezone should be taken with a grain of salt, to say the least.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think you just summarized most of Ric Flair's singles matches during the Evolution era. I remember seeing a perfectly mediocre Flair vs. Hurricane Helms match on Raw, and the Hurricane just looked so damn happy to be there.

    ReplyDelete
  21. def hardway.. those elbows brock were throwing were vicious.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Punk's tweeting about it, has prety gnarly staples in his head.

    ReplyDelete
  23. https://twitter.com/CMPunk/status/240894624573571072/photo/1 Not sure why someone would blade themselves there. But he does talk about paying Charles Robinson's fine and that 500K is a drop in the bucket. Who knows, but it added a nice visual and change of pace to the match.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I read him saying that stuff as sarcasm.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That would make more sense.

    ReplyDelete
  26.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGtCEK_Ek8I

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, he tagged him good in the forehead right from the start.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Even if he is messing around, everything I've ever heard about him paints him as a complete dick.

    ReplyDelete
  29. WTf? Charlie Robinson wasn't actually fined, was he? And there's no way it was 500k if he was?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, he seems like a "holier than thou hipster douchebag."

    ReplyDelete
  31. So, yeah, it does look like he passes a blade...but:

Why would he do it on the top of his head? And deep enough to need staples?! Worst bladejob since Vince and Eddie.

And why in the blue hell would he do it in a nothing cage match against Lawler on Raw?

    ReplyDelete
  32. /is a jackass who doesn't worry about his fellow wrestlers. See: Testicle; Dreamer, Tommy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, it's totally refutable. Not sure about reputable though...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Do refs always carry around latex gloves now in case someone gets cut? That seemed weird to me.

    ReplyDelete
  35.  Yes, they do.  I've seen them whip the gloves out whenever there's accidental blood.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I actually kind of like that. At least they're paying lip service to blood borne pathogens risk.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why don't they just wear the gloves all the time?  Little Naitch had a heck of a time trying to get them on, so they might not had even done any good if Punk hit a 1.0 Muta.

    ReplyDelete
  38.  I think it's because they don't want the visual reminder that blood COULD happen.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Answer to all questions: to make it less obvious that it was a blade job.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Freudian Slipamania!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Maybe Punk sensed that the crowd wasn't into the match (a "Boring!" chant was clearly heard) and took it upon himself to call an audible to try to get the match some more heat?

    ReplyDelete
  42.  Is Charles Robinson known as Little Naitch?! huh?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just ask Bret how it felt when he had a throne, scepter, and crutch cracked over his head by Lawler.

    ReplyDelete
  44.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Robinson_%28referee%29

"Robinson, dubbed "Little Naitch" (a reference to Flair's nickname, the
"Nature Boy"), came to the ring in a robe similar to those worn by
Flair, and mimicked Flair's mannerisms, signature strut and "wooo"
    catchphrase.[4][5]
Robinson emulated Flair throughout the match, using Flair's customary
illegal tactics, but was defeated by George, who pinned him following a diving elbow drop."

    ReplyDelete
  45. It was a nickname he received when he was the personal referee to the Four Horsemen back in late 90's WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Wow. Never knew he'd been around so long. You can tell I didn't watch late '90s WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Didn't he put Lawler in a legit sharpshooter and refuse to release him or something as revenge? Or am I totally confused?

    ReplyDelete
  48. How would he have gotten the blade if it wasn't planned in advance?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah, he cranked back really hard after Lawler got him with not only the crutch, but a few stiff shots as well.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If Punk is really going to throw away what well could have been the longest title reign of the modern era just to get a little juice in a heatless match with JERRY LAWLER, then he's a fucking moron, and a sadist for subjecting us to Cena reign #13.

    ReplyDelete
  51. A good wrestler is always prepared.  He probably has a blade with him all of the time...

    ReplyDelete
  52.  Yup. Plausible deniability. Another Bret tribute from Punk!

    ReplyDelete
  53.  It seems to always be Robinson, too. It's not just WWE though, it's a common thing now. I went to an indie show where the ref and all the staff at ringside had to put gloves on. Meanwhile the wrestlers themselves continued to roll around in a puddle of blood unabated, but what can ya do?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Punk gets away with this, no question. He's the champ, and he made it look hardway. It's extremely stupid that you can show the violence that would lead to bleeding but it's somehow offensive to see the actual body fluid.

Although I guess I'm much less offended by seeing a guy sitting on a toilet than I am by seeing a bunch of murky diarrhea, so I guess maybe I could be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Why would he blade in a nothing RAW main event against Jerry Lawler? I don't buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hahaha. Damn I loved the shit out of that angle. Flair was on fire as "the president!"

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's hilarious, wrestlers (or refs) do not carry blades unless they plan on using them...it's unsafe to have them on your for no reason.

    ReplyDelete
  58. That picture shows that it was not a blade job...unless he did with a screwdriver, which I think would have been more noticeable.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Wearing latex gloves is not that comfortable. Your hands get sweaty if you wear them for a long period. Why wear them all the time when maybe one out of five hundred matches has blood?

    ReplyDelete
  60. So Wrestlezone has the inside scoop and WWE employees were just too dumb to notice?
