Good Match Request

I'm curious about two eras of wrestling, of which I know I little. 
The first is the chunk of the 80s where Dusty Rhodes was a top-tier guy. If I wanted to watch some matches, and I know Rhodes' ringwork wasn't particularly legendary, which should I seek out?
The second chunk is basically TNA pre-2010, when I started watching. I've seen a few of the variations on Samoa Joe v Daniels v Styles, but that's it. What matches with Christian, Raven, Angle, etc. that are worth finding?

I wouldn't say Dusty was ever a "top tier" guy.  He held the World title for about a week total, combined, and other than that it was all Flair, all the time.  There's a million Flair matches from the 80s to recommend, basically close your eyes and pick 20.  The great thing about Flair is that you can plug any opponent in there and get a great match out of it, which is why he was a travelling champion who drew such big money.  

As for TNA, that would have to a project for the readers.  I literally didn't watch any TNA between 2006 and late 2011 because Russo drove me off so completely.

    I really don't know about Dusty, but if you want to see some good TNA matches just YouTube "AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels" and you'll be linked to all kinds of awesome. And the match aboynamedart mentioned below, that shit is the shit.

    For TNA, Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels from the "Unbreakable" PPV in 2005. It's the only TNA match in history to receive Meltzer's 5 stars

    For TNA, aboynamedart already mentioned an awesome tag match. I'd also check out LAX-Daniels/Styles in a cage if memory serves.

    The Daniels/Styles tag-team run is pretty stellar as a whole, when you combine both the AMW and LAX series.

    If Dusty wasn't a "top tier guy," then I guess Andre the Giant wasn't a top-tier guy either.


    Dusty was one of the biggest national stars in wrestling in the 1970's, probably as big or bigger than any given NWA World Champion. Any territory in the country could have spiked the house by booking him.

    The best Dusty match I've seen is actually from Japan, and it's Dusty vs. Backlund for the WWF title. Mat wrestling, brawling, blood, and chaos all in one package.

    I would go with Dusty vs the Honky Tonk Man from SummerSlam 89. Dusty goes all hardcore on him and messed up his hair.

    He won the title in December 2010 and vacated it in April 2011.

    Actually, didn't Edge lose the title to Dolph Ziggler for a few minutes in February 2011 because he speared Ziggler? I believe WWE never voided that title reign for some reason.

    I'd recommend James Storm VS Chris Harris. Specifically, the Texas Death Match, certainly not the infamous Blindfold match. Other than that, not much comes to the top of my head because I also started watching TNA in 2010, except for some Impacts from 2004-2006.

    I'm not a Dusty Rhodes fan at all, so I can't think of any Dusty matches that didn't bore me.

    Where he continued to be a top national star and was easily the #1 babyface for both Florida and Crockett for most of the decade while in the pre-expansion days still being in demand in New York, Memphis, Portland, and the Mid-South. Dusty only ceased to be a "top tier guy" at the end of the decade.

    I'm not a TNA fan, but I have seen this match (and a Styles/Joe/Daniels three way which I've heard is the best TNA match ever), and it's great.

    I dunno, even by 85 he was mainly doing tag matches with Magnum and then moving on to the US title level, but you seem to love proving whatever point I'm making to be wrong, so let's just agree to disagree.

    A TNA match I haven't seen in years but thought it was awesome back then was Juventud vs Teddy Hart, just a lot of sick moves.

    Pretty much any of the early X-Division stuff is stellar.


    The MCMG Vs Beer Money feud was the ONLY good thing they did that year.


    An underappreciated guy was Christian Cage. I thought he had reallly good matches with Abyss and Samoa Joe and Rhino during his feud. I also like the Rhino Vs AJ Elevation X match (sue me).


    The entire tag title run of AJ/Daniels was incredible and most of LAX's run (minus the horrible Electric Cage match with 3D.

    I just don't think that for the time period the original e-mail was referring to that Dusty was booking himself in a lot of main events. It seemed to be mainly him and Magnum teaming up against the Midnights or TV title stuff with Tully. Obviously Dusty was a main event guy for many years before that. Just seems like a really weird thing for people to get all riled up about when clearly I've said much dumber things this month alone.

    TNA
    -Obviously any Angle/Joe match
    -King of the Mountian 2007 won by Kurt Angle, crazy Joe/Styles spot-Christian vs. Samoa Joe or Christian vs. Rhyno were all good matches.
    -Chris Sabin vs, Senshi for the X-Division Title at BFG was incredible. -Any Black Machismo stuff was hilarious.-Styles/Daniels vs. LAX had some great matches. -Angle vs. Jarrett and Angle vs. Abyss - Falls Count Anywhere from the MEM era.
    -Styles/Daniels Ironman match is an acquired taste, but just stellar quality of work.


    and as for Dusty.....

    Clash III vs. Kevin Sullivan w/ Gary Hart???? That was a good match. About 5 minutes long, but as intense as you'll find.
