Can we say low buy rate for Hell in the Cell!
4-6 weeks recovery time, plus SUPER CENA, plus Dr. James "Tape It Up And Work Through It" Andrews = Cena is back after a week off throwing big fat guys around the ring again.
Cena is proof steroids need not be banned. He ll be back in no time.
ReplyDeleteHGH does wonders for recovery.
ReplyDeleteWhat's something that kids are into these days? Monster Beats? Because the Punk/Cena are two kids on the playground and the WWE Championship are the new Beats Studio HD Detox Editions.
ReplyDeleteKid 1 - "Those Beats are so cool, I have to get a pair. I want them so bad."
Kid 2 - "I want a pair to. I'm going to ask my mom"
(The next day)
Kid 2 - "Look! My mom bought me Beats! Aren't they awesome!"
Kid 1 - "I was just joking, loser. Beats suck! I can't believe you wasted your money on those!"
(2 months later)
Kid 1 - "I got Beats! They're fucking awesome, only losers don't have them."
John Cena would be Kid 1. Anyway, I doubt the injury means anything. If anything they can use it to make him sympathetic and stalk the old familiar odds against him.
Please WWE, take this as an opportunity to get him off TV for a few weeks, then maybe I won't be so fucking bored the next time he is on the screen.
ReplyDeleteWho takes on Punk at Hell in the Cell? Orton? Do they randomly turn someone?
ReplyDeleteAnother thing about Cena....why does he dress like a 12-year-old? He's in his 30's. He looks like an over-grown child. I know it's inspired by his rapper persona, but he's not that character anymore, and while I'm not hip to the rap game I assume what was cool in that culture in 2003 isn't cool anymore. There's many reasons to dislike him but looking like a moron has to be one of them. Why not just put him in tights?
ReplyDeleteHell in a Cell is October 28. Even if he misses ring time he'll be back by then easy. I'd say this is a good thing as it will make his in ring return at HiaC more special.
ReplyDeleteThat's another thing, he's exactly the same character that he played when he first debuted against Kurt Angle. You know, that character that everyone claimed was going to wished well in his future endeavors before that Halloween episode.
ReplyDeleteHe hasn't even been given a second evaluation yet... and is already down to 2-3 weeks out.
ReplyDeleteSay what you will about his character...but he really is SuperCena in some ways.
ReplyDeleteThis. I think most people don't realize yet that HiaC gets a six-week build this year due to WWE dropping from 13 PPVs back down to 12.
ReplyDeleteHe's getting the surgery now precisely BECAUSE he has such a large gap of time before the next PPV.
Especially since this news was reported on WWE's own website. He can always make non-wrestling appearances on Raw for promos and such.
ReplyDeleteBlargh, then he isn't going anywhere.
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no clue there was that much time between shows.
ReplyDeleteI'm convinced the baggy jeans and oversized shirt is to get him over with kids by dressing him like one. Between the jokes, the outfit, and the persona, he really is the big kid that all the little kids wish they could be. It's savvy, in its own way.
ReplyDeleteMore likely explanation is inertia. No real reason to change it, even if Cena's rapping persona is a thing of the past. Besides, that outfit is a lot closer to the kind of guy John Cena is, and not everyone on the roster has the privilege of dressing how they want (in public, anyway), so it doesn't surprise me that he'd keep his look. But I'm sticking with my theory for now.
It'll be Cena vs Punk at HITC, Lesnar will rip the door off the cell & F5 Cena to give Punk the win. I'd put money on it if that weren't an incredibly stupid thing to do!
ReplyDeleteI'd much prefere a 4 Way Hell in a Cell match:
ReplyDeletePunk Vs. Cena Vs. Del Rio Vs. Sheamus
Both titles on the line. Means Cena doesn't have to work as much, plus it's DIFFERENT. Also, i'd take that as our main event, even if they have no more HIAC matches on the card (they should, but you know).
A Tag Team Championship HIAC would be a nice addition, too. Let's do this year's HIAC a little different!
It's Cena, he'll be fine in twenty minutes.
ReplyDeleteThat Sheamus/Cena backstage segment was so lame. I know it's all scripted but their dialog doesn't sound natural. Like in "reality" shows when two people have a conversation that's quick and focused on explaining exactly what's happening and why.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was unintentionally hilarious because it made Sheamus seem like the dick his character usually is. He is sitting there bragging about how he kept his title to a guy that wasn't able to win the title.
ReplyDeleteThat Halloween episode ruined wrestling.
ReplyDeleteI guess this would be the appropriate place to bring it up, but let me tell you looking at the BFG main event of Aries vs Hardy really shows how lame & repressed WWE is.
ReplyDeleteAustin Aries & Jeff Hardy both in look and moveset resemble what you would think a PPV main event in 2012 should look like. Like if it were 1997 and you were able to see the future Aries & Hardy would actually look somewhat futuristic; now imagine if you saw Cena & The Rock (which is where I personally think WM is headed) it would look flat, or even dated by 1997 standards (especially Cena in his 1-size-too big T-shirt & baggy jean shorts.)
I really like both ideas.
ReplyDeleteLike I always say. just expose him to the light of a yellow sun for a few hours and he'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteBecause Cena can't fit in a pair of skinny jeans
ReplyDeleteWish he was out longer. We all need a break from him and they should take this opportunity to put more heat on Punk by actually shooting an angle where he "hurts" him.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, this will expose how weak their roster is right now...
Why is that a stupid thing to do? It'd set up a Cena/HHH vs Punk/Lesnar match at Survivor Series, or a larger 4x4 elimination or (dreaming here) War Games match. But yeah, I agree that the Lesnar interference is a definite possibility, though I think it'd be a fine way to go.
ReplyDeleteI just hate how Sheamus has to explain in one sentence that before the match at Night of Champions Booker T reinstated the Brogue Kick which he used to take Del Rio's head off and retain the championship as if Cena would have no idea any of that happened. Then explain that Cena should have and eventually will beat Punk, just to make sure we're all aware of that to. It just doesn't sound natural.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite the stretch to just say you are more interested in Aries/Hardy versus a WM main event we don't even know will happen.
ReplyDeleteGuess that opens the door for the Punk/Lawler blowoff.
ReplyDeleteI'm more interested in Aries/Hardy than a hypothetical Cena/Rock rematch. Loved Cena/Rock I, don't care to see it done ever again.
ReplyDeleteIt did provide Stephanie McMahon at perhaps her hottest, though.
ReplyDeleteJohn Cena vacation reports: Giving the Internet false hope since 2005.
ReplyDeleteHardly a trade-off.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it. I was so pumped when he got hurt in 2007 because it was a six month minimum recovery time and it's be a long shot for him to make Wrestlemania. I was never more disappointed than when he came back early at the Royal Rumble.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, especially since it's likely Cena would be winning it. They're just re-doing what they did last year with a less favorable ending this time around. Aries/Hardy should be a fun match, it could go either way, and there's the intrigue of where Aces and Eights might fit into it. It's not the same match as last year done over so the loser can win this time.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they do that on a lot of TV shows, it can be irritating for longtime viewers.
ReplyDeleteAgreed that Cena/Rock II doesn't interest me much because the ending would be telegraphed but its not set in stone so who knows if it will even happen.
ReplyDeleteIf this were the 80's, or WCW anytime, Cena's character really would be a 12 year old who woke up as an adult one day.
ReplyDeleteThe roster isn't weak. It's only perceived that way. And it's not that hard to change perception with things as little as a word (Yes) or an internet show. Give Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Tyson Kidd, Primo, Ted Dibiase, Rollins, Ambrose, Sandow, the Usos, R Truth, Ryback, Cesaro, Ryder, Clay, or Miz a chance to shine and they all can move a rung or two up the ladder, be it from lower to mid, mid to upper, or upper to main event. The guys I just mentioned have all been engaging in one way or another, in my opinion. Then, there's stalwarts like Henry and Kane who know how to entertain. And then there's guys who are just money at this point like Punk, Bryan, Mysterio, Orton
ReplyDeleteWow.
ReplyDeleteoh I meant betting money on wrestling is stupid, that finish setting up a tag match as Survivor Series is definately the correct booking....actually I bet they do Cena/Rock vs Punk/Lesnar, HHH runs in towards the end to beat up Brock
ReplyDeleteUp to over a month without Cena.... .WERHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Best news I've read all day :)
ReplyDeleteLOL ya got me! But I stand by what I said.
ReplyDeleteYou are right that at this point anything is possible. It's just a "I've got a bad feeling about this..." type thing.
ReplyDeleteI will say realistically as far as the WWE title goes: Cena vs Rock, Cena vs Punk, or Rock vs Punk are the only options, I don't think they're gonna build anyone else up that quick.
According to WWE's website, the recovery time has been knocked down to 2 or 3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteNah, Cena turning into a lame face ruined wrestling.
ReplyDeleteDid you really list Ted Dibiase as a way to claim the roster isn't weak?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, compare the roster to 2000-01 and tell me again how it isn't weak. Unfair? Maybe, but they were building stars all the time back then. Now? Not so much. Perception is reality, especially in the wrestling business.
It's just a flesh wound!
ReplyDeleteAfter ten years, putting him in regular tights would just be-- weird. Like Hogan's Red and Yellow and Austin's black- it's just what he wears.
ReplyDeleteI'm more bothered by the sneakers. What's the point of lacing up big ol' wresslin' boots when Cena does just fine in a pair of Reeboks?
It's just exposition. You have to remember that every episode is going to be someone's first one. In fact, I'd say RAW has been the least accessible I've ever seen it since RAW 1000 and this sort of conversation is actually a start in the right direction to fixing it.
ReplyDeleteMy bad. Me no read English good.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah man, Rock and Cena teaming up at SS this year would actually make sense, since now there's two legit monster heels to go against. That'd be cool.
You were the only one... because every jaded smark in MSG popped as hard as they could.
ReplyDeleteRub some dirt on it.
ReplyDeleteWatched it recently and the crowd did split pretty soon after his return in that match.
ReplyDeleteI like the first idea, but I love the second. They have a great formula to work off of for tag team HIACs: DX vs. Legacy. Even if they don't actually repeat the "one partner gets locked out of the cage" spot, if they find a way to incapacitate one guy (big sick bump or something) they can have the other two go to town. Like say they did Mysterio/Sin Cara vs. Team Friendship: have Mysterio get lawn-darted into the cage by Kane after he tries a plancha, and have him do the medical attention spot. Then spend the next few minutes having D Bry and Kane just pummel the shit outta Cara, until Mysterio makes the big save. Win sauce.
ReplyDeleteFake injury, probably just got divorce proceedings.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that he, like most wrestlers who go 150+ nights a year every year, have plenty of issues that normal folk would call legitimate injuries that they just work through.
ReplyDeleteHe might have been able to keep going like that indefinitely, but he had a window of opportunity to get surgery done, and he did so. Doesn't make it "fake" in the least.
...or some Tussin...
ReplyDeleteOk then it's real. I really don't care. WWE is losing me rapidly. I deleted Raw & Smackdown both without watching this week.
ReplyDeleteGive these guys a real shot. I just watched a couple of old Raws on Classics on Demand--one from 1997 and one from 1998--and it's just amazing how almost every segment means something or further develops a character. The 50/50 booking, the climbing (getting a secondary belt) and slipping (losing all non-title matches), and the 2 minute matches aren't doing a lot of these guys any good.
ReplyDeleteTeddy comes off as a likeable and intelligent guy in his media interviews, is more than competent in the ring (just falls prey to the spot-spot-spot non-psychology in the wwe), and started that whole tailgating thing. I like him and believe there is still much potential to be realized.
Cena's proven shockingly durable since Kennedy nearly killed him dead in the ring over 5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThat was the strength of the writing of the era, especially of Russo and Ferrara, everyone got something to do. Sometimes it sucked, but no one was wandering around aimlessly.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but "Rise Above (whatever is currently bothering Cena)" always gets a chuckle from me. Rise Above Prenups, Rise Above Rolled Ankles, Rise Above Bone Spurs, I'll take the lot.
ReplyDeleteI hear Zoltar the Magnificent works wonders.
ReplyDeleteRise Above Rising, brought to you by Rise Above Yeast.
ReplyDeleteWWE is losing me. I don't care if people get hurt.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry SuperCena will be back in time for another burial of Punk.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. When Cena came out at Gardens it just ruined the whole show because I knew he was winning right then. Cena needs to leave for a year or so, and then come back fresh. Where's Ahmed Johnson or Viscera when we need someone to injure someone?
ReplyDelete
