I don't know how much you've been following Linda's Senate run, but the third debate made some national news. Aside from her supporters apparently catcalling Murphy, thus causing delays and leading to the network it was broadcasting on cutting it off during her closing remarks, my favorite part was Murphy's reply to Linda stating to have created hundreds of jobs during her corporate WWE years, responding "they were jobs that came without health care benefits, they were jobs that ended up with dozens of employees dying because of the abuse they took in the ring."
You'll note that when she wants to make a point about job creation and community involvement, then she was one of the driving forces behind WWE. But when people bring up Benoit or any of the other deaths, she had nothing to do with the company and in fact has never even heard of this "pro wrestling" thing. In other words, she's a born politician.
If they want to make movies or try to run sports leagues, cool. But a McMahon in politics is just wrong.
ReplyDeleteAnother CT resident. Can't wait for the election to be over. Local news was saying over the weekend Linda's spent over $12 million out of pocket on this farce. Still love how she distances herself, any mentions of family are 30 year old pictures.

Actually dislike both candidates, only good out of this one is at least it's for Lieberman's seat. But of the two, would take Murphy. If I wanted tea party talking points I'd back Palin nationally.
Linda lost 2 years ago to a guy that lied about his Vietnam record in a race that was never close. This year, she's apparently in a neck-and-neck race with another flawed Democrat. I hope Linda wins so we don't have to hear about Linda for Governor in 2014. She'll just keep running until she wins, so if she wins she won't run another campaign until 2018.

ReplyDeleteA plan. LOL. I love how Republicans tell us that government doesn't create jobs, then proceed to run on a platform of creating X number of jobs. See romney, Mitt or McMahon, Linda or pretty much any other Republican. Their plan typically involves another tax cut for the rich. One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Well tax rates are at historic lows, particularly for those making over 250k. Income levels are down for 90% of Americans in the past 32 years and wages have not kept up with inflation in the past 32 years. Why do I mention 32 years? Because that is when Reagan brought trickle down into practice. The result? Lower taxes for people who can afford to pay more and no magic rush of hiring or paying decent wages with benefits. Insanity.

ReplyDeleteif the best the campaign can do (no personal offense to you even though you apparently are supporting Linda which is offensive) is say Murphy had a poor attendance record on the House Banking committee, then I think we're all okay.

Right. Is he suggesting that the President is independent of the Government? Because that sounds less than constitutional, if not worse.
ReplyDeleteYes, and not even beginning to mention that their rhetoric on deficit reduction is bullshit as a) where were these folks during the last decade when we were flushing unaccounted-for-kajillions down some drain in both Iraq and Afghanistan?; and b) The internal philosophy of their hero Reagan's administrations was "Deficits don't matter," which certainly rang true by 1989.
ReplyDeleteyeah, deficits didn't matter under Dubbya as they skyrocketed thanks the the tax cut for the rich and the Iraq war. It was only when Foxnews and the GOP stumbled on their latest talking point that deficits became big news. Sadly, the American people have bought into it. 80% of the people who tell you how the deficit is such a huge problem now, never cared before the media hammered it home over and over that this was a big deal. FoxNews has become so powerful that they can create the news narrative for other media outlets. The truth is that if the economy recovered to the growth we had under Clinton and we let the tax cuts expire for those making over 250k (and capital gains rates), the budget deficit would be gone. The largest part of the rise in the deficit over the past 4 years is NOT spending, it's lower revenues. Look it up. It's true.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think Linda had much of a chance in this race after she was blown out in a "wave" election year. However, her race is statistically dead even with three weeks to go and it is worrying the Democratic Party. She's going to need significant crossover appeal to win, but I just don't see her getting it in a presidential election year. I expect many Connecticut Dems to vote straight party ticket and that'll be her downfall.
