Random Thought

Traditionally in wrestling, a referee stopping the match due to excessive bleeding doesn't change the title.  So that would be a terrific way for a babyface to beat the hell out of a heel without having to lose and still keeping the title on the heel.  I have no idea what this random thought could apply to, however.

  1. Clearly, you're thinking of the next Divas Championship match.

  3. Hmmm. Maybe you could have a Paul Heyman like figure, (strictly for example you understand.) He throws in the towel then the champion next night on RAW denies the figure had the authority ("he's not a liscenced manager he's not even officialy in my corner!") So now you can let him defend the title in a normal style match and get himself DQd like any self respecting heel champion.

  4. Their new policy on blood kinda fucks them on that. Over the last few years, every time you see blood, they stop the match until they stop the bleeding. Now were are supposed to believe that they wouldn't stop it now to fix Punk before the ref stopped the match entirely?

  5. AWA doesn't count. Find me an example where a title changed in WWE due to referee blood stoppage. That wasn't First Blood rules, before all the smart-asses chime in about Kane and Steve Austin.

  7. What? Whatever reference you're making went completely over my head.

  9. Where the fuck is russo when you need him.

  10. Like it but doesn't it just push the issue out a month to Survivor Series? Would seem that type of ending would necessitate a rematch at the next ppv, where they seemingly need a transition ending to either get to the 5 man elimination match with or whoever costs Ryback the match gets destroyed by him next month.

Ending works if they plan on a 30 day trial balloon to help decide if Ryback wins it or Punk ends the streak though.

  11. Always gotta be on guard for the Simpsons on the BoD. When it comes to references over your head here, when in doubt, "SIMPSONS DID IT"

  12. The problem i have with this match is RyBack is clearly aping Goldberg's act, but they should have followed the WCW formula. Yes, they gave him months of quick squashes to set him up as a monster(though, when Goldberg did it, not every other TV match ran two mins average, so it was actually impressive when he won in a minute or two). Then he moved up to JTTS (ala Goldberg's matches with Brad Armstrong and the like). But Goldberg didn't just get his first World Title shot until he had ran through Raven to collect his US title, which solidified him as too over to need that belt. RyBack should have plowed through Miz to take the I-C belt, then when he's thrust in the Main Event, he seems ready for better things. At least then, if he's cheated out the Big Belt somehow, hey, it's cool, he's still wearing a title. Now, if he doesn't walk away with it all, then a month from now, he takes a secondary title, it looks like he settled for a belt he COULD win, and people no longer see hungry desire, just intense settling.

  13. Wasn't that the Poochie episode? I think it has something to do with Homer on a panel taking questions.

  14. Someone on another site mentioned the idea of gimmicking the cell so it collapses in on the ring during a big spot and they have to call a no-contest. If they can find a way to do it safely I'm thinking it's not too bad of an idea. As far as protecting everyone's spot on the card anyway, it would be kind of a "fuck you" to the people that bought the show, but that's never stopped them (or any promoter) before.

The fact that we're even having this conversation just shows how stupid the whole HITC PPV concept is. They wouldn't even have to do this match in the cell if it wasn't that time of year again.

The mark in me want's to see Ryback win the title, because A...I have been on the Ryback bandwagon since day one and B...I want to see what happens with Ryback as the Champion. But thinking logically doesn't it make sense to have Ryback beat the living hell out of Punk, (Punk get's his offense in too of course to keep him strong) and just as Ryback is about to win Lesner interferes, on Punk's behalf causing him to win? Wouldn't everyone want to see how a Punk/Lesner/Heyman alliance plays out?

  16. That's the ending I wanted for Cena/Lesnar. It was right in front of them: Cena keeps kicking out, the ref stops it due to too much blood, Lesnar gets declared the winner but Cena gets the moral victory and gets to do his big Raging Bull "Never got me down, Ray" speech at the end, and the rematch makes all of the money. In this case, it'd be the opposite, with the heel taking the vicious beating, and I get the feeling it wouldn't have the same effect.

  17. I fear for the fans during the Punk-Ryback match. Pretty sure that after 5 minutes, Ryback's going to be sucking all the oxygen out of the arena.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That's a cool ending. But no way Cena would sell such a beating. Mostly because he barely sells ANYTHING.

  19. This match is WWE's golden ticket and possible one and only opportunity to turn Cena heel. Heel Cena vs. Rock at Wrestlemania would be fresh and amazing.

  20. Find me any example in the WWE where the match was stopped due to excessive bleeding on the part of the champion that was not a First Blood match.

If they didn't stop the Eddie/JBL match, then I can't imagine any occurrence of it ever actually happening.

  21. Boy, I really hope someone got fired over that blunder.

  22. You can MAYBE say Bret-Austin at Wm, since the excessive bleeding caused him to pass out, if you wanted to reach

  23. I didn't realize that Austn was champ at the time...

  24. I personally think they should get Lesnar to come in the cage and F5 Ryback letting Punk roll over and get the pin.. make the match similar in vein to Taker/Shawn in 97'. Building to Lesnar vs Ryback at Mania. Taker vs Brock would be my number one choice for Mania but I heard that Taker doesn't want much fuss going into this years show. Ryback vs Lesnar would be the money match outside that one, though I'm sure HHH is determined to get his win back on the grandstage. I think if HHH puts his ego to the side then this situation can sorted out just fine.

  25. I misread your comment apparently as I thought when you said any example, you were opening it up to non-title matches.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would normally say go ahead and pull the trigger on Ryback and see what happens but they've hot shotted the title on people so many times before this that it doesn't mean anything anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  27. With all that time together on the road, their cycles have probably synched up. All Diva First Blood matches would probably end in a draw.

On that note, once a month the Divas matches should be suddenly interrupted by period-attracted bears.

  28. I like that idea (Brock/Ryback at WM) but that's a long time to build. I guess they could have Brock act like it's only business (Heyman client and all) while Ryback takes it personally. Maybe have Heyman add more clients and have Ryback steamroll through them a la Bossman vs. the Heenan Family. Then just have Ryback do something to make Brock invest on a personal level (fuck with Sable maybe?) and you got your match.

    ReplyDelete
  29. HOLY FUCK. You are hilarious.

  30. your profile pic reeks of Mike Pawlawski-ness..

  31. Can Brock bust out of the F5 into the ring post again? Perfect way to bring Ryback down to everyone else's level. He can do the DDP taped up ribs bit.

Or he could do it to Orton over and over and over until I never have to see him again. I'd be grateful for that.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's more old-school, but I remember reading results of Backlund, Sammartino or Morales title defenses ending with that ending.

Also, they could go the Flair/Luger Bash 88 route and have the match stopped due to the challenger's bleeding, just as he's about to win.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think we need Sable involved in this storyline but I LOVE the idea of Ryback tearing through a new Dangerous Alliance one-by-one until he gets to Lesnar. That Bossman vs. Heenan feud was pure gold back in the day and it's a great way to get a face over over an extended period of time.

  34. I really don't think tormenting a guys wife would ever get a babyface reaction.

  35. Or he could do it to both of them...

  36. "Hey, I remember you! "Beep beep", right?"
"No, it was just "Beep" and then they dubbed it. Cheap bastards."

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think a better idea would be to have Ryback destroy Punk for 15 minutes before, in an act of desperation, Punk deliberately cuts himself open a tiny trickle, then "passes out from blood loss", giving Ryback the win but not the title.

The last shot can be Punk being wheeled out on a stretcher with a shit-eating grin on his face.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That's like saying the title doesn't traditionally change hands when a tiger wearing a pair of glasses and a yellow bowtie recites the Declaration of Independence mid-match when the title is defended in Europe.

Basically, what's the precedent that the title doesn't traditionally change hands due to ref stoppage due to blood loss?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm basing it on a match from 1981 where Backlund got busted open by Mil Mascaras during a title match and the ref stopped it. It was specifically noted that blood stoppages don't change the title, and since it was never overturned by another result since then, it must still stand.
