    WWF Mania was pretty awful but the guy was talented when it came to doing voice overs for those video packages.

    I remember him hosting a talk show on a local radio station close to where I live right after he left the WWF in the mid-90's. Thought it was a fall from grace, but apparently he was returning home, in a sense (Amsterdam is maybe half an hour away from Albany, the closest major city to where I grew up). Small world.

    I'll take Pettengill over any of the new guys WWE has now. Been watching WWE Mania on Classics, it's actually not as bad as I remember.

    I remember I used to see the ads for Toad Pedophile's radio show all the time, even though they weren't in our market. I have no doubt in my mind it's some of the cheesiest shit ever.

    I used to live in the same neighborhood as that house, I could never figure out which one it was because they all look the same around there. Jesse Neal of TNA fame lives in that same neighborhood, actually.

    That's news to me, I always thought that Jim Cornette's favorite buck-toothed goon Kevin Dunn was responsible for Michael Cole's reign of terror.

    Considering that, maybe it would have been better for everyone if they just kept Sean Mooney for the rest of eternity instead.

    I couldn't stand him as a host or on commentary, but as a backstage interviewer and video package VoiceOver narrator he was above average

    I have no idea why some get sentimental about him. He was a douchebag before we coined the phrase for people. His humor was non-existent despite the fact that he tried to tell jokes every single time he was in front of a camera. His announcing skills were best exemplifed when talking about the 1-2-3 Kid with: "Wow, he's like a power ranger out there!" And then there's his voiceover work for video packages. WWE has had the best production staff (especially for build-up videos) for decades--do you really think Todd... TODD f'n Pettingil... came up with those lines?

    When Michael Cole is an upgrade from you, you're in trouble.

    Sorry. Someone had to say it.

    yeah, I didn't like Pettengill much at the time, either- he was just bland and not very funny. I thought his Slammy Songs were pretty good, but those only came once a year. He was an ideal announcer in that he looked like a giant weenie and made the wrestlers look HUGE, but he was every bit the Typical 1990s Pitch-Man- skinny, hyper-active, over-the-top, laughing and not very funny.

    He literally is New Generation. He started at Wrestlemania 9 in 1993 and left around Survivor Series 1997. Basically started when it actually began and left just as the attitude era began.

    I think the best thing Todd had going for him was relative autonomy compared to the current crop of interviewers and hosts. Todd never really had to do that current RAW schtick of having one question for the guy, and basically being a mic stand for the wrestler after that. He was the 90s Mean Gene - his success or failure in entertaining you, aside.

    Favorite Pettengill moment was during the pre-show on Summer Slam '94. Pettengill was being surrounded by a crowd of people while selling the PPV at the United Center. They were supposed to cut to a video package of some sort, but they didn't. The live shot remained on Pettengill and he went from this fake over-selling smile to the biggest douche bag, eye rolling "get me the fuck out of here" look in less than two seconds. It captured the "real" person very nicely.

    One "question"? When does Matt Striker ever pose even one question? Regardless of the situation, he just tells wrestlers to give them their comments. How much lazier can an "interviewer" possibly get?
