So I'm back from my Christmas holiday, and only Jack Klugman and Peter Parker died! So I consider that a win.
Wasn't Savage one of the guys who did a quickie job for Goldberg during his big reign? Am I crazy?
Rude and Hogan never had any interaction outside of one match in like 1987 when Rude came in, and that could have been a big program. Warrior didn't interact with anyone but Hogan when he was in WCW, more or less, and could have done something GIANT with Goldberg if handled right. Or Giant-Warrior could have been something, too, come to think of it.
If they really wanted it, The Goon vs Abe Knuckleball Schwartz was RIGHT THERE.
ReplyDeleteNot that it's the biggest company, but I don't believe Taz and Raven ever interacted in ECW.
ReplyDeletehey now, don't disrespect Charles Durning like that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Savage and Goldberg ever hooked up. They were both faces and Savage was part of the Wolfpack feuding with Hogan and Bret Hart.
ReplyDeleteIt boggles my mind that Savage and Rude never got a run against each other. That seems like a program that could have written itself.
What about Andre the Giant and Bruno Sammartino? Did those two ever hook up? They were both faces during their time in the company together.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to remember who the career babyfaces were during Hogan's first WWF reign. I know he tagged with Tito in one of the Survivor Series, but did he ever do anything with Steamboat?
ReplyDeleteAnd apparently, it did*
ReplyDelete* In Mempho, but still.
Did Shawn Michaels and Rock ever interact? I know they were at 2 different levels in Shawn's first run. However, Shawn and Rock were in WWE from summerslam 2002 (the rock/brock & hbk/hhh matches) to wrestlemania 20 (benoit/hhh/hbk & evolution/rock&sock).
ReplyDeleteOh man, Goldberg vs. Warrior could have been NEXT LEVEL awful, but I agree that it could have done some business. Along those lines, I think Sid vs. Warrior in 1991/92 WWF fits.
ReplyDeleteDid ECW ever do Mike Awesome vs. Rob Van Dam circa 1999?
Shawn wasn't really full time from Summerslam on. It wasn't for awhile (if I recall correctly) that he actually came back longer. Whereas Rock took time off after Summerslam 2002, came back briefly from January/February 2003 until Backlash, and then was gone from the Goldberg match until his one time match at WM 20. I don't recall Shawn really being present at the same time as Rock except for Summerslam 2002 itself and the WM 19 build, and in both cases they had wildly different programs that wouldn't have really interacted.
ReplyDeleteOh man, that was an AWESOME program. They also had a couple of pretty good matches at house shows during Savage's 88 run, if I'm remembering correctly. I'll look up some Savage Memphis stuff for the RGMOTD tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI vaguely remember a promo between the two when shawn was the commissioner. 1999ish I think
ReplyDeleteBesides block him from moving up the card after WM 3?
ReplyDeleteShawn Michaels was the special referee in the Rock/HHH ironman match
ReplyDeleteSid was the special ref for summerslam 1991 match where hogan and warrior teamed up; warrior also saved hogan from sid at wrestlemania 8
ReplyDeleteHere's the one I was thinking of. It's only a short clip but I think the rest of it is in the related videos tab. Kind of pathetic hearing hbk tell rock "I've had roles you'll never have little boy"

I think this video is better:

gamefaqs.com maybe?
ReplyDeleteShawn Michaels vs. Eddie Guerrero. They were both wrestling in WWE from 2002-05, but they took the brand extension seriously in those days and they never crossed paths. A match between them would have been off the charts.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I mean a Sid vs. Warrior program and match. That could have been truly awful, but I can see it doing good business back then.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. They should have let these two let it all hang out at some Texas-based PPV
ReplyDeleteDibiase vs. Steamboat?
ReplyDeleteI remember that, during Eddie's memorial shows, Shawn mentioned that they would have faced off against each other had Eddie made it to the Raw/Smackdown elimination match.
ReplyDeleteGo to options and turn AI reversals off.
ReplyDeleteNope. Awesome didnt come back full time until Anarchy Rulz
ReplyDeleteI might be having a mental blank but have Cena and Undertaker interacted at all?
ReplyDeleteObviously they've been kept well apart in case o a WM program but I can't even recall them coming up against each other in any multi-man matches off the top of my head
Cena/Taker is the big time money match that needs to happen.
ReplyDeleteI know they've crossed paths on occasion but not since Cena became THE MAN and Taker moved in to the special attraction phase of his career.
They had a PPV match in 2003 when Cena was still doing the rapper gimmick, and tagged against each other at No Way Out in 2007, but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteThey did something together in 2003, I remember something about Cena taking a leak on a tombstone.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside someone posed the wrestling Mt Rushmore question awhile back. Andre's visage belongs on the fucking mountainside.
ReplyDeleteThere was also the tag team match before WM 23 that had Cena and Michaels v. Batista & Taker.
ReplyDeletejust after his dr of thuganomics phase... vengeance 03
ReplyDeleteSteamboat and Mr. Perfect never had a match that I'm aware of and there was a brief window when they were both in the WWF.
ReplyDeleteI get the feeling I've blacked out a Cena/Taker programme somewhere along the way... Regardless we need a Mania match between the two.
ReplyDeleteI think they teased the idea of a Wrestlemania match. Taker tombstoned Cena after they had a tag match against DX and JeriShow.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there was that brief period in 2004 when Paul Heyman had control of the urn and had Taker doing his dirty in the shitty buildup to the Great American Bash. Cena challenged Taker to a match and you had Taker cheat to beat Cena.
Christ, I have zero memory of any of that
ReplyDeleteStill if Cena and Taker ever do have a WM match you can guarantee it'll get get retconned as their first ever a la HHH/ Taker
Rey Mysterio vs HBK & Rey Mysterio vs HHH are two matches that come to mind for Mysterio..
ReplyDeleteIf they did Face/Face match ups during this time Andre vs. Bruno would have been MASSIVE.
ReplyDeleteI really liked their program on Smackdown in 2003. They had a pretty good match at Vengeance and their feud was based on Cena being somewhat of a "punk kid" who was disrespecting the man who demands respect in the Undertaker. I really enjoyed it and it was back when Cena wasn't as developed as a worker and when Taker was starting to come out of the "dark ages"
ReplyDeleteNever in WWF that I can remember, tons of times in places like Georgia in the early 80s I'm pretty sure. I couldn't find anything on YouTube offhand (although I did find a BUNCH of "Video Reviews" of recent PPVs...do people actually watch those?) but I know it had to happen.
ReplyDeleteI momentarily forgot this fact. Thanks for reminding me. It's really a shame they never faced off. We gripe about them not taking the Brand Extension seriously anymore but damn I wish they didn't take it so serious back in this time. Because Eddie vs. Shawn in 03-04 would have been delightful.
ReplyDeleteI think Rey/HHH happened at some point when HHH was a heel. On Raw.
ReplyDeleteHow about Shawn Michaels vs Big Show?
ReplyDeleteThey had a couple of tag matches (dx v machmons and show, dx v show/Jericho
ReplyDeleteRey and Shawn had a couple of raw matches. One for eddies tribute raw
ReplyDeleteHogan & Steamboat teamed up for a match before Wrestlemania III against Randy Savage & the Honky Tonk Man but to my knowledge they never wrestled each other.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite quotes from The Death of WCW is when they were quoting Russo from an interview where he said he wanted to bring back Warrior, because let's face it, there's no one who wouldn't want to see a Goldberg vs Warrior feud. And the writers said "the fact he wasn't fired the second that came out of his mouth is amazing".
ReplyDeleteRe: video reviews, I know I'd personally rather eat my own foot. Podcasts for merry distraction while on way to/while at work - yes! Sitting down in front of YouTube to watch crappy footage or stills overlaid with godawful imitations of Joey Styles and ICP, by Elmo and Grover? Not as good as it sounds.
ReplyDeleteAlso it would have meant Sid and Warrior cutting promos on each other. I think we can all agree that would be worth it. Man, imagine a three way debate between those two and Scott Steiner...
ReplyDeleteKane and IRS.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. Fuck video reviews!
ReplyDeleteThis was the first one I thought of, though in fairness Rock was a midcarder (and wasn't very good at that point) before HBK had his first retirement, and he was gone before Shawn made his comeback. Still, to me that's the only dream match left.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so, probably because it would have sucked. Talk about a clash of styles...
ReplyDeleteI don't recall Mr. Perfect and Dusty Rhodes ever interacting with each other. Granted, the matches would have sucked but the promos would have been great at least.
ReplyDeleteOne that I just thought is Brock Lesnar vs. Chris Jericho. That would have been an interesting clash of styles.
ReplyDeleteI think the main reason why Shawn and Rock never interacted with each other is because when Rocky first started in WWE, Shawn and Hunter didn't like him and were burying him behind the scenes and The Rock has a long memory.
ReplyDeleteWasn't the rumour that Eddie/HBK was slated for Wrestlemania 22 before Eddie's passing?
ReplyDeleteJericho and Undertaker have never had a one on one ppv match as far as I can tell.
ReplyDeleteShawn and Rey faced off in a classic survivor match at SS 2006, if memory serves. They also had a match on the Smackdown prior to WM XXVI - Shawn's penultimate match!
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, both featured a repeat of the famous Shelton Benjamin mid-air SCM as the kibosh.
If memory serves, Heyman was going to do RVD/Awesome title for title at some point (Hardcore Heaven/Heatwave) in 2000. Then RVD got injured and Awesome fucked off.
ReplyDeleteFucked off for checks that cleared. Joey Styles tells the whole story on the ECW Unreleased DVD, and I'dve told Heyman to get bent for the kind of money Bitchoff was throwing around.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Awesome moving was TOTALLY justified. Fuck the money that Bischoff was throwing around - profiting by even a dollar would put Awesome is a much better position than if he was in ECW. I'm not sure whether Joey was shooting on Awesome for real at ONS 2005 (regardless, his comments about Awesome's suicide dive are...retrospectively taste bereft) but if he was, he can get fucked basically - Awesome had a family to feed and Heyman wasn't paying him a penny.
ReplyDeleteInteresting you bring up Taker cheating to beat Cena, were they thinking of turning Taker heel or was that just for storyline purposes?
ReplyDeleteStoryline, i think. It eventually led to the abject horror that was the Concrete Crypt Match.
ReplyDeleteI love it. lol. I wish this one would have happened. From "Parts Unknown" vs. From "Anywhere He Damn Well Pleases".
ReplyDeleteDid HBK and Goldberg ever go one-on-one in '03/04?
