There's so much great Memphis stuff out there, and with the tape library being split into many pieces, Vince doesn't own it and none seems to be regulated on youtube.
Some of my favorites include the Andy Kaufman angle, Ric Flair's one appearance on the Memphis studio wrestling program, and Vince working as a heel in 1993 doing a character very much like Mr. McMahon in 97/98.
There's a lot of great Memphis stuff that's worthy for RGMOTD, in particular anything from the Jerry Lawler-Austin Idol feud from 1987 would be great for this category as well as Randy and Lanny Poffo vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express, another very underrated feud from Memphis.
Not a fan of the Memphis stuff to begun with, but still. no buy on this one. 3+ minutes laying around in restholds... a DQ finish in a fucking cage match? This is like a * match to me. CUE THE DOWNVOTES!
I originally saw this on some Randy Savage VHS Tape that ran 30mins. from K-mart. It had this and the awesome R&R Express v. Savage/Poffo match. However it's one of the cheapest chicken wire cages you will ever see.
Just look at the intensity of the two guys in the early going before the big chinlock sequence starts. Imagine if ANYONE today bothered to show that much fire.
That was a quick turnaround on finding some Memphis for RGMOTD. I've literally seen NOTHING from Memphis so this should be interesting.

ReplyDeleteTHIS is a match that should be on the WWE Network with Lawler on guest commentary. Oh well...

ReplyDeleteHere's a good place to start if you want to see some of the best of Memphis (and a few other territories) - http://www.youtube.com/user/GShea
ReplyDeleteNo, I agree. Memphis was pretty much the template for Vince Russo's entire shtick. Hot angles, shit matches.

ReplyDeleteLance Russel is one of the best announcers ever.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's a perfect way to describe it.
ReplyDeleteIt's very angle-driven, yes, and can certainly be hard to understand in context without a lot of the froo-froo surrounding it.
