This was such a big deal at the time for anyone who followed the NWA. Flair had been champ for almost a year and half and they didn't job champions in those days, especially on free tv...it just didn't happen. I saw this match on the live broadcast and still remember my younger brother celebrating in my face when Flair. Fond memories and the match totally holds up.
Great match and some fantastic commentary from both Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone. This was also the last great NWA match that Tony called before he bolted to the WWF and boy has hindsight ever shown that Tony should have never left the WWF.
Did Steamboat and Windham ever have a high profile 1 on 1 match?
ReplyDeleteDefine high-profile. I think Windham defended the nwa title against Steamboat in 1993 on WCW Worldwide
ReplyDeleteWill Benwah ever make it on one of these?
ReplyDeleteTV or PPV match.
ReplyDeleteAlso I'm pretty sure they wrestled on WCWSN in that US title tournament that lead to Dustin Rhodes winning the US Title.
ReplyDelete"NOT RICKY STEAMBOAT!!!"
