Would WWE be smart enough to tie The Shield guys with being those SWAT guys that used to be follow around Heyman in ECW. I do not believe they ever revealed who they were. I know it was not those guys.
Do you REALLY? Maybe Dean Ambrose was just biding his time.
Much like 99% of the continent, I never watched WWECW outside of like 2 episodes, so I don't even remember those guys, and I don't think anyone else would either. It would be such an obscure plot point to bring up that I don't even see what the payoff is supposed to be. Especially since Punk has repeatedly stated that he's not working with the Shield, and his word is good enough for me.
I bet some of the writers don't even remember ECWWE, let alone obscure characters from it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's one of the writers or if Punk & Ambrose are sharing notes, but both Punk's worked shoot last year and the Shield's Jokeresque video clip contained more than a few bits of Occupy Wall Streetish philosophy and rhetoric.
ReplyDeleteIf they actually tapped into that rather than constant cheap heat tactics, they might have something.
I mean, how sad is it going to be when Ambrose starts getting babyface reactions for being cool so they have him come out with the usual "[Your local sports team] loses frequently and without dignity!" lines?
What is Michael Chiklis up to these days anyway? Topic reminded me how much I miss Vic, Shane and the rest.
ReplyDeleteFuck Shane :-)
ReplyDeleteAgree with Scott. Pointless. I saw the security guys actually win a match at an ECW house show (sadly over Guido and Mamaluke). That was in 2005 or 2006. To me it would just make the current guys seem less fresh and older.
ReplyDeleteHey, those lines made Kurt Angle a star!
ReplyDeleteThe guys hanging with Heyman were the Bashams
ReplyDeleteNo, the lines that made Kurt Angle a star were along the lines of him raping Booker's wife and having ANIMAL SEX with her.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, that would be such a Russo move. Him thinking that wrestling fans watch every bit of wrestling ever, and know every fact about everything ever, then getting all sorts of pissed when no one gets the scissors joke aimed at Sid.
ReplyDeleteThe SWAT guys are an ECW staple dating way back. Does this mean Ravishing Rick Rude and Edge are also Shield members?
ReplyDeleteI believe Conor O'Brian was one of Swat guys that accompanied Heyman at one point because one of the Bashams were injured, although if they had been revealed I'm guessing they would have gone with both Bashams.
ReplyDeleteStrike team rules! 2nd best show ever behind the wire imo. And frankly the best last episode of a tv series ever. What a fucking show
ReplyDeleteHe's got a new show called Vegas with Dennis Quaid. He plays a Chicago mobster running a casino in 1960's Vegas and Quaid plays the sheriff.
ReplyDeleteSo since we're on the subject, the Shield has to win tonight right? Otherwise they've been Nexus'd much faster than the actual Nexus was.
ReplyDeleteThey could do worse than have Michael C show up as a one-off guest host, boasting that he's financing The Shield with the money he earned from Fantastic Four. Throw in lots of 'The Fantastic Four was the last generations Avengers' gags that are ridiculously untrue... it'd be hilarious. Just have him completely delusional.
ReplyDeleteRyback and hell no could also use a win. Schmozz?
ReplyDeleteNo, those lines made him a legend.
ReplyDeleteThe best moment of that show was the second-to-last episode, when Olivia turned the recorder on and Vic finally had to confess every awful thing he ever did. The range of emotions Chiklis displayed in nearly a minute of silence before he spoke was an unbelievably amazing piece of acting.
ReplyDeleteI remain disappointed that he's never done a Sons of Anarchy cameo, since the two shows sort of exist within the same fictional world.
ReplyDeleteIt's a realy interesting match, because even moreso I think Ryback needs to win tonight. I mean, they want Ryback to be in a major match at Mania, he probably should win a big match on PPV already. Unless they have some kind of major out planned for him (such as Lesnar interfering), I don't think Ryback could lose again, even if Hell No eats the pin.
ReplyDeleteIt still baffles me that they didn't take the obvious route and just make it a Tables Match (since the whole basis of the feud has been putting people through tables). Along with not making any sense whatsoever, this whole "TLC Match that ends in pinfall/submission" thing forces them to make somebody eat a pin.
ReplyDeleteI think Bryan eats the pin and Shield gets the W.
ReplyDeleteTalked about this on the podcast this past week...
ReplyDeleteAnyone think Sheamus/Show is in the middle of the PPV and Dolph cashes in, wins the title and screws Cena out of a chance to win the briefcase? Would be a nice little smarmy heel boost for Dolph to have him outsmart everyone.
Holy shit, that's awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I see happening too. Bryan is taking the pin, though all three of them finishing Kane off with the powerbomb could be a possibility.
ReplyDeleteI kind of want to see this match.
If this match is the main event, I could see Rollins eating a Ryback pin. Lot of ways to keep The Shield strong in this type of match but eventually the story has to be Ryback getting revenge for the Survivor Series finish.
ReplyDeleteIf this isn't the main event (and Ziggler cashing in on Sheamus is the final part), I could see Bryan taking the fall and the feud being drawn out.
Except it also means that Dolph is defending his WWE title about 20 minutes later against Cena. Not sure if that's a plus?
ReplyDeleteWould be if they let him win...they have a hell of a chance to really put Dolph over big tonight. I doubt it will happen, though.
ReplyDeleteWho agrees that holding off on the Shields in-ring debut was a great way to sell the match under these circumstances? Even though I've seen these guys before, I'm tempted to watch tonight just to see how they work in a WWE ring (especially against Bryan).
ReplyDeletedully noted.

ReplyDeleteEven when they're in half kayfabe mode, they're still awesome. I can't believe they stopped giving them promo/interview time about two months ago. And Bryan or Kane will likely do the job tonight to the Shield. Sigh.
I'm still holding out hope. Maybe in the final season. Maybe they can find a way to include ICE in on the investigation into the cartel.
ReplyDeleteWhy would it be an auto title shot? I mean the match was for the briefcase and the briefcase is gone... so basically it becomes a match no one can win since there is nothing above the ladder...
ReplyDeleteIf that were to happen, Cena would come full circle as Hulk Hogan V.2, it would be like WM 9 all over again but without the togas and Mr Fuji.
ReplyDeletethis is great. worth a watch just for Kane making NPR jokes
ReplyDeleteYeah, true, but if his new show is still on the air, his filming schedule for it might prevent him from being able to.
ReplyDeleteJust about everyone else from The Shield has been on the show: Jay Karnes, Walton Goggins, David Reese Snell, Benito Martinez...
I'm all for continuity, but that would go way over anybody's head.
ReplyDeletebecause then Vince would just pressure Vickie into making it a title match, like he did the past 2 weeks on Raw
ReplyDeleteBut then the odds would be stacked against Cena and he has no history of overcoming great odds...
ReplyDeleteThat would be, like, the best thing ever. He loses his job in L.A., then the only job he can get is the sheriff of hick-ass Charming, CA, and with nothing better to do he targets the local MC. Jax Tellar v. Vick Macay would be like the Hogan v. Flair of the Kurt Sutter universe.
ReplyDelete.... the gang-banger that forced Ascevda to give him a BJ....
ReplyDeleteI don't know... I broke down with Shane threw the graneade in Lem's car to kill him.
ReplyDeleteI suddenly got super excited for tonight's card, the most I've been in a long time. The Shield and Ziggler are both in the highest profile situations of their careers, on a platform (ladders and such) that allows for tons of innovation and interesting storytelling. Does anyone doubt, based on what we've heard about the work ethics of these guys, that they're going to bring their A++ game and try to make a statement? Not to mention it's D-Bry's biggest opportunity in a while to really shine. I'm stoked.
ReplyDeleteSame. If the 6 man and Ziggler/Cena delivers, I'll be happy.
ReplyDeleteHoly chemistry! Wow are these guys not getting 20 minutes on the microphone every week? Oh yeah, because the Miz needs that time to repeat the word "Really" and convince us that he's a face before the new Marine comes out.
ReplyDeleteKane is so frickin' talented. I'm beginning to think they've barely scratched the surface of what he's capable of as a character
ReplyDeleteShield need the win more. C.m punk attacks ryback during the match, Kane eats the triple powerbomb and gets pinned.
ReplyDeleteKane looks like an Ira Glass fan.
ReplyDeleteAlso, DBry looks like he stepped out of a Mumford & Sons video.
ReplyDeleteNo, those lines went up his nose. ALLEGEDLY...
ReplyDeleteI don't see how Vick could make a cameo. They made it pretty clear that ICE was burying him in an office somewhere far away from civilization.
ReplyDeleteThey'll never flip a card like that but I do think Dolph cashes tonight
ReplyDeleteLive thread?
ReplyDeleteKenny Johnson, not to mention about 15 other bit players. Stahl and Mayor Hale were both 1-offs for different cases (I think both were with Dutch and Claudette). Oh and Det. Billings was the Chicken Man in Season 3.
ReplyDeleteHe had a three-year contract with them.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I forgot Kenny Johnson.
ReplyDeleteWasn't Hale's one-off as the guy who banged his 16-year old employee in season 4ish?
Don't remember Stahl.
Yep.
ReplyDeleteStahl was a former businesswoman-turned-prostitute by this real smooth-talking old pimp (looked kinda like an old Rick Fox).
He did; sort of. Sutter featured a season seven clip of The Shield in the season four finale, as far as Juice watching "The Shield". Shield basically is a fictional show in the SOA universe.
ReplyDelete(IRL: Michael Chiklis was supposed to have been in season two along with Kenny Johnson but stuff came up and they had to scrap the episode/move KJ's appearance to a later episode. Since then, they've dropped the idea and Sutter has said that he's abandoned the idea unless he can come up with a character, similar to Walt Goggin playing a transgender prostitute, that would be completely different from the Vic Mackey character to justify the stunt casting)
If you want to get all fanwanky, the kind of did that with Ronnie: Vic was killed by the Mexican Mafia the second he left the office at the end of the series and the feds were forced to cut a deal with Ronnie to salvage their case against the bad guys. Ronnie got himself a job as a fed, as well as a brand new identity (Nicholas Grad), and immunity for all past crimes and handed off to a space cadet US Attorney, who was overseeing a RICO investigation of SAMCRO, as far as him being made to work with said space case because he was the only guy who would have anything to do with a dirty cop like Ronnie.
ReplyDeleteNot going to happen. There are rights issues involved and the only reason they can get the gang names past the copyright police is that the gang names are pretty generic and they don't actively play up the connection between the shield version of the gangs and the SOA versions of the gangs
ReplyDeleteAs stated above, Chiklis was supposed to be in season two as a member of the Tacoma Branch of SAMCRO alongside Johnson's character and two other Shield cast members (who's names have never been revealed) as part of a caper episode where they work with Opie to rob a bank to get money to bail Jax and company out after the white power guys tricked them into storming a white power fundraiser with guns.
But there were problems everyone's schedules and apparently only Kenny Johnson was free to commit, in the end, to appearing that season; so the script was trashed and redone from scratch and they moved Johnson's appearance to a later episode where his character was brought in to help shore up SAMCRO's numbers during the rumble against the Aryans....
Since that happened, Sutter and Chiklis apparently decided to hold off bringing him onto the show until they can come up with a decent enough character to allow him to guest star without upstaging the rest of the cast. A similar agreement was come to with Walt Goggins, though Goggins got around it by pitching the idea of playing a transgender prostitute and Sutter agreeing to insert the character into an episode when he realized that Goggins, ever the character actor, was dead serious about wanting to play a transgender character for the challenge of playing one.
