I remember renting this as a kid from either Blockbuster or Hollywood Video and having my mind absolutely blown at the fact that the ref actually did the 5 count for a rope break. I loved having to manually release the hold.
And that short little WCW vs. nWo: World Tour clip makes me want to play that game now, if only so I can make pretend it's still 1997.
Other than Yahtzee Croshaw's Zero Punctuation game reviews, these Joe Gagne vids are my absolute favourites.
I rented this game many moons ago and remember quite enjoying it. Just watching this video, you can see the animations look more organic than the other games that were doing the rounds in the same period. The 'rush' mode is a great idea too. You could do your very own SuperCena comeback!
A lot of these videos make me so sad I gave away my old N64. Having WCW Revenge and WWF No Mercy cartridges sitting around with no system to play them on makes me a sad panda.
Eh, this introduced a lot of the concepts that the AKI engine would use later. It's a forerunner to both engines, both directly (Yukes) and indirectly (AKI).
I wish they had kept that in the SD series. Although it sounds like they were having trouble fine-tuning it so maybe they wanted to but couldn't make it work smoothly.
I've had mixed luck at thrift stores in my area. I found a Dreamcast for ten bucks with two controllers that has worked perfectly for years. On the other hand, I wasted twenty bucks on a Gamecube that was useless. The stores around my area have an as is policy when it comes to buying electronics, so I was out of luck when it came to getting my money back.
I never played this game but if it's one thing that 2k needs to bring to the wwe games it's stats. I know stats mean nothing in real wrestling but i still would like to see them all the same. Also I would love to see a replay mode like they do in the NBA games. Can you imagine after a match watching a personalized highlight reel complete with a soundtrack to go along with it! The current wwe games replays are so horrible I always turn them off for the matches.
"Go Danny!"

This game was great. Played it nonstop... You were able to record matches and rewatch them later. Awesome

Bought this for a dollar a few years ago. Pleasantly surprised to find the AKI engines grandfather.

It's actually the Smackdown/RAW engine's grandfather.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's true. Still, for a dollar, I was pretty shocked at how playable it was.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first game I bought when I first bought my PlayStation
ReplyDeleteYeah, you know it was an NJPW game when it had its own Fighting Spirit built in.
ReplyDeleteLove Zero Punctuation
ReplyDeleteCannot believe I've never heard of this game. It looks pretty fun.

ReplyDelete"Referee Rockburn Sally..."
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of when I used to record my video game matches on VHS tapes lol
ReplyDeleteIf you dont want to buy one online somewhere check a Goodwill store somewhere, I always see old systems on sale at them.
ReplyDeleteMe too!

ReplyDeleteI remember playing this and absolutely losing my shit. I had no idea that a wrestling game was capable of being that awesome. Just a sensational game.
ReplyDeleteI was always either Agent Orange or The Commandant, as they pretty much had the best movesets, as I recall.
