Hi Scott,
Just wondering if you had a chance to check out this awesome read.
Thanks,
Brian
Yup! The Observer obit is also awesome and adds even more crazy stories, but this one really humanizes him, especially the stuff about how he was happy to live outside wrestling and drive his mom to doctor's appointments and stuff. He really was one of the greatest of all time and it's ludicrous that Vince doesn't just do whatever he wants and put him in the Hall of Fame.
Imagine working at some restaurant and Randy Savage sits down at your table. What would you say? What would you do? You'd have to get a photo, no? And imagine finding out he died later in the day. His last photo would be with you.
ReplyDeleteIm shutting up now.
Read this earlier, real good stuff
ReplyDeleteRIP to one of the best ever
ReplyDeleteIt's not crazy, Vince just hates that Randy Savage didn't need him more than he needed Randy Savage.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Nash would be on Vince's no call list as well if it weren't for the fact that Nash was best friends with Triple H.
It's Bleacher Report, ugh. Lots of slideshows?
ReplyDeleteI read this today, it was an amazing read, very well done. Must read for any Macho Man fan.
ReplyDeleteThat Savage/HBK program sounds awesome. Sucks we never got it.
ReplyDeleteWow, reading the part about,
ReplyDelete"As Randy watched Judy tend to his father, the Macho Man declared that the entire clan belonged in the WWE Hall of Fame.
“How about that? The Von Erichs all get in,” he sneered, referring to the Von Erich family’s recent induction. “Even Chris.”"
I finally get why Savage would be so insistent about pulling Angelo + Lanny in there. Not saying that it is right, but I understand it now.
Now that I've finished the article, I'm really bummed out. What a great, great, great article though.
ReplyDeleteNot this one. It's a real article by a real journalist.
ReplyDeleteI say put all three of them into the HOF. If Koko B. Ware can get in, so can The Genius.
ReplyDeletePlus, it'll give WWE the chance to show footage of Lanny's SNME victory over Hogan, and you know they'll jump at the chance to rub it in Hogan's face.
Bleacher Report is usually a lot of junk, but man, this article was outstanding.
ReplyDeleteYes, great article on the guy that got me into wrestling as a kid.
ReplyDeleteBut we all know why he's not in the Hall of Fame: YO STEPHANIE! YOU'RE GOING NO-WHEEERRRREEE! I GOTCHA FOR THREE MINUTES! THREE MINUTES OF playtiiiiime!
But seriously, great work. He was the fucking man for me growing up.
I imagine that they took some photos during the autopsy.
ReplyDeleteI love how his baseball card says "Has improved his swing by DROPPING HIS ELBOW."
ReplyDeleteGreat article.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, considering some of the guys in the Hall of Fame, is it REALLY such a disaster if Angelo and Lanny were inducted as well as Randy?
Macho Man was awesome in Spider-Man. BOOOONESAW IS READY!
ReplyDeleteToots Mondt isn't in the WWE Hall Of Fame and he helped Vince Sr create the WWWF! Hell he helped create the entire damn business! But with Bruno getting in, hopefully it wont be long until most of the greats including the Macho Man are all in.
ReplyDeletea fantastic read.
ReplyDeleteI'd try to get him to let me record him doing the "Ohh Yeah!" thing and use it as my ringtone.
ReplyDeleteI think the REALLY old-timers like him aren't getting inducted just because 99.9% of the population has no idea who the are. The HOF is more about getting good ratings for the ceremony than anything else, and people that made their mark before a lot of current fan's parents were born ain't gonna draw shit.
ReplyDeleteAs for Macho, I think he'll be in within the next 3 years or so. I just wonder if Owen will ever get in. Probably not...
This was fantastic. Yeah, Bleacher Report is usually suspect but Keith Elliot Greenberg is legit. Is there a link that Observer obit lying around by hand?
ReplyDeleteI hate to be a Debbie Downer but that baseball card isn't real. :-(
ReplyDeleteThat joke is there intentionally

ReplyDeleteNobody tells Vince what to do.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason i love the way he holds up his middle, ring and pinkie finger when he says "i got you for three minutes! "
