WOW. What an amazing match! Just stiff as holy hell. That counter knee Japanese Kurt Angle landed when Kenta went for the takedown...I thought he was legit knocked out. MOTY for me so far.
It's a shame NOAH is in such shambles right now because matches like these show the promotion can still pull out amazing stuff. Too bad they didn't have a mark millionare buy them out like All Japan recently.
Jesus, the top rope double stomp flying half-way across the arena onto the floor just looked so ridiculously painful. The guys who take this stuff are just stupid. Gosh.
I honestly worry of KENTA's well being 10 years from now. He has been working the absolutely stiffest matches for the better part of the last decade, Im wondering if his body gradually breaks down like what happened to Kobashi.
you know what though, is it because its a japanese match and we're so used to them displaying such a wild match that its does get 5 stars? Or that KENTA is always displaying such a violent style?
If Danielson and Punk have this exact match move for move at SummerSlam or something, I cant see anyone giving it less that 5 stars at all
def MOTY thus far. some of those headshots were unnecessary I grant you but the triple double stomps all over the arena and then 3 GTSs, plus Sugiura's selling make it so. and the women in the front row losing their shit is really funny!
This match is five stars. No doubt about it. I'm not gonna say if you don't love this match and adhere to a star system to rate matches and you didn't think it was five stars, then you don't really love half-naked men pretending to kill each other for money but...

ReplyDeleteOh KENTA. He's got so many amazing matches to his name, and this is just one more. I'm not a giant Sugiura fan, but his intensity is just rediculous.
ReplyDeleteGO TO SRRREEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPAH!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI dunno if it was 5 stars, but I couldn't look away for the whole 35-ish minutes. Beautiful match.

ReplyDeleteOh Scott, you and you're beloved Puro...

Totally. His matches with Takayama always left me kind of worried about him.
ReplyDeleteBut damn it if it isn't entertaining.

ReplyDeleteI never have been either, but this one kind of made me a fan.
ReplyDeleteI've honestly only ever watched aome of his matches against Go(Who I also don't like) but he looks like he will fight you to death.
ReplyDeleteWatching the crowds is always amusing. The late 80's-early 90's All-Japan is full of crowd gazing comedy.
ReplyDeleteI think he's just kind of a big stiff, but he's a hell of a story teller.
