Woof.
“WWE released its updated estimate of buys for WrestleMania, the first official company number, which was 1,048,000 worldwide.”
I think we can state without fear of contradiction that it was NOT HHH’s fault.
Woof.
“WWE released its updated estimate of buys for WrestleMania, the first official company number, which was 1,048,000 worldwide.”
I think we can state without fear of contradiction that it was NOT HHH’s fault.
Called it.
ReplyDeleteIs over a million buys not many? What were they aiming for?
ReplyDeleteThey were aiming for 1.3 million. It should be noted that with the price increase they made more money on this show than last year, though.
ReplyDeleteProbably right around what 28 did. It's a lot of buys in a vacuum, but I'm sure they were expecting at least 200,000 more.
ReplyDeleteI'm not at all surprised, to be honest. I expected 29 to do over a million buys but not much more than that. The card was filled with "seen it before" matches...not one of the top matches was something new (except ADR VS Swagger which nobody cared about).
ReplyDeleteI had this one wrong. I thought 1.4 million was gonna be the number for sure. Really, really surprised it's this low...
ReplyDeleteDamn, I was close (think I had 1.07 million). Is this going to be the final number, or will there be an adjustment later?
ReplyDeleteFUCK--I had 1.02 I was so close!
ReplyDeleteThey played it safe. If they go ahead with Cena/UT & Rock/Brock next year that will draw even more casual watchers in. More so than Brock/UT, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI'm really curious as to what the Extreme Rules number ends up being.
ReplyDeleteThe story, to me at least, about the Mania number is that it's evidence of how badly they mishandled Lesnar and killed off his drawing power. I mean, they added Brock Lesnar to last year's roster and somehow LOST a few hundred thousand buys. That's nuts. Had they built a storyline around Lesnar and given him an opponent that people actually cared about, he alone could have upped the buyrate irregardless of whatever else was on the card. Instead they did what they did with Lesnar, and honestly I don't think he factored in as a draw for that show a all.
Sure it's a sample size of only 80,000 people, but the fact that the entire live crowd was silent for Lesnar/HHH is telling: WWE fans didn't give a shit about that match. And fans not giving a shit about a Lesnar match, and him not affecting the buyrate less than a year after his big return, well that's some amazing bad booking right there.
Guess not enough HHH is the reason they didn't break 1.3
ReplyDeleteAt this point, HIGHLY doubtful. The bloom's pretty much off BOTH Rock and Brock now.
ReplyDeleteI know he has a limited number of dates, but I really think they could have used him better. For one, I wouldn't have debuted him right after Wrestlemania if it meant he loses a meaningless match then disappears until Summerslam. He wins at Summerslam, then he disappears again. Then he comes back to face the same guy he faced at Summerslam six months earlier - and these Triple H feuds don't excited the world the way he thinks they do. They just don't get any momentum going with Brock when he disappears after every month for months at a time. They'd be better off just giving him 6 months on and six months off.
ReplyDeleteIregardless. Isn't. A. Word.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on Brock/UT. That match has zero appeal for me. I mean, what's there to look forward to in thatmatch? We all know that Taker isn't doing a job for Lesnar, and it's not like Lesnar has been built up as an unbeatable monster and there's still the appeal of "Wow, we're finally gonna get to see Lesnar get beat." We've already seen Lesnar get beaten and treated like a bitch on multiple occasions now. Why would we pay to see Taker take his turn at doing what others already did?
ReplyDeleteUndertaker watches UFC, so he'd enjoy pretending it's a UFC fight and he made Brock Lesnar tap out. It'd be like a fantasy baseball camp for him, or like when Triple H got to play Ric Flair from 2002 until 2005.
ReplyDeleteThat's what happens when you have two guys who are seen as legitimately badass and cool but have to bring them down to the level of the phony badass and phony cool.
ReplyDeleteOh Rock/Brock would definitely be the secondary attraction, believe it or not. I think Cena/UT would draw the most interest in, primarily b/c surprise surprise it's never been done.
ReplyDeleteThe Dark Knight Rises was a success. I don't see any reason why they don't re-release it this summer with an alternate ending where Bane wins.
ReplyDeleteI was at WM and the stadium was NOT silent for all of HHH/Lesnar. The intros and beginning of the match got decent pops. Fans got really restless and started turning on it about half way through.
ReplyDeleteMonday's going to be a fun day. Can't wait to see the kind of hit their stock takes. They obviously released this this over the weekend to soften the blow to investors, but it's still not going to be pretty.
ReplyDeleteYup, Lesnar has zero momentum in anything he does based on teh schedule. It's comical at this point. Why does he ever come back? Is he a fucking wrestler or not? Like, what does Brock Lesnar even want, in kayfabe terms? Does he want to be champion? Does he want to destroy the company? If you think about it, the Triple H feud was just predicated on Lesnar fighting because, I dunno, Paul Heyman wanted him to. There's just zero motivation for anything Brock does.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think the HHH series completely killed off Brock's appeal, not just because Lesnar came out of it looking like a bitch, but also because all 3 matches were so bad. I mean, even after the ridiculous loss to cena, at least Lesnar had the appeal of how awesome the Cena match was. The nature of that match was so unique and exciting, that there was an appeal in just watching a Lesnar match. But after three craptacular matches against HHH, where Lesnar might as well have been Mason Ryan or Big E or name-your-generic-WWE-big-man, there isn't even the appeal of Lesnar matches being unique.
Anyway, maybe they could move Lesnar into a program with someone who could go, like Sheamus or Bryan, and at least recapture the insanity of the Cena match. But still, the damage has been done. Brock just ins't special anymore.
Ah, irregardless I'm just gonna keep using it.
ReplyDeleteI do think that if Rock/Brock ends up happening next year, especially if it's after a year of both guys being pretty much MIA from TV, that it could get the Brock/Goldberg Mania 20 treatment. Just totally crapped on, with the fans not giving a half a shit about either guy.
ReplyDeleteRemember, WM XXX is in New Orleans. Bringing the same old shit into a Superdome that still remembers what good wrestling is will NOT go over well.
ReplyDelete(I hope.)
I'd love for that to happen. Nothing better than a train wreck.
ReplyDeleteBrock wants money, in character and in real life. I always saw it as a simple justification. They just mucked things up with the HHH feud. Like, why would Brock care about anything Hunter did after he beat him the first time?
ReplyDeleteNo Miz.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the fans turning on Brock. Grown men still act like 10 year olds when he shows up. I could definitely see the crowd turning on Rock, though. Mostly due to the fact that his faux-macho posturing will be put up against the closest thing humanity's come to creating a physical representation of pure testosterone.
ReplyDeleteWait, that ended in 2005?
ReplyDeleteNo one gonna put the hit on the Rock? At all?
ReplyDeleteAlso wasting undertaker on a match with ratings poison and urn aficionado punk.
ReplyDeleteFuck. You.
ReplyDeleteDougie, it's over the top hyperbole like that which outs you as a troll
ReplyDeleteThe market's closed on Monday for the holiday. That's probably why they released the number now; they're hoping by Tuesday something makes people forget how bad this number is.
ReplyDeleteAh, forgot Monday's a holiday. They're a crafty bunch, I'll give them that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Eric. People seemed to be looking forward to it and popped at the beginning but it was just death sitting there in the audience watching it.
ReplyDeleteYup. 20 people on the card, it's clear that only one of them is responsible. All hunter, all the time.
ReplyDeleteTotally!
ReplyDeleteI think the build for hhh brock was even worse! Everyone knew trips was going over, even young children.
ReplyDeleteSo by that logic, how is Punk ratings poison?
ReplyDeleteI also get annoyed when people say "for all intensive purposes"
ReplyDeleteHad the title for 400 whatever days, lowest ratings ever.
ReplyDeleteSix performers are most responsible. Six members of the main events. More than enough blame to go around. Of course, the blame is only going to go to the guys you don't like already, so why bother?
Oh shit! Many bites.
ReplyDeleteThat's my point. How can anyone blame just Punk when he was being positioned below Cena and HHH on the card? His title reign was even second-fiddle to other guys on the show. No one performer has much bearing on the ratings. WWE is a brand that draws audience attention separate from the performers. Only a few guys like Brock or Rock can swing things in any meaningful way.
ReplyDeleteI'd assume it will be adjusted later, though Rick Poehling (who?) will be the winner if that nuber holds. Looks like 900k isn't happening.
ReplyDeleteProblem with this years 'Mania was that anyone with half of a brain knew the outcomes of ALL the big matches. Also, the build-up for each match was atrocious. WWE itself is just stale.
ReplyDeleteI've never labeled you as a troll but I have to agree with brocore here. Your logic is inconsistent. You want to argue that one person (in this case Hunter) can't be responsible for a low buyrate, but that another person (in this case Punk) is responsible for low ratings. You can't have it both ways.
ReplyDeleteKyle! You shouldn't use language like that irregardless of how worked up you get.
ReplyDeleteThe Ric Flair impression, since then he's just been the most badass and funny motherfucker in the world.
ReplyDeleteSix guys all got as much pub as being main attractions on the show. Punk, taker, hhh, lesnar, Cena and rock. Lesnar and punk will get passes from most of you. Which is just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteAnd the bloom has been off Cena for years...
ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteWhew, let me catch my breath. Wait...BWAHAHAHAHAWAHAHAHAHAHWAHAHAHWAHAHAHWAHAHA!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!
There, now I think it's out of my system.
Shhhh!! You're letting dougie's secret out.
ReplyDeleteEh, I mean I was there too and I remember the crowd being pretty tepid for the entrances (HBK's especially felt kind of sad—— the dude was working his ass off coming down hat ramp to get pretty much NOTHING), getting some noise when they shot fireworks off. And the crowd felt dead right from the start of the match.
ReplyDeleteForget the response that Taker-Punk were getting all night, which was obviously the most heated thing on the show. Just compare HHH-Lesnar's pops to that of Rock and Cena right after— thunderous boos for Cena, and a huge ovation for Rock. Those guys still had heat (at least until the opening minutes of teh actual match stunk the place up until the false finishes extravaganza.) Hell, Fandango and Jericho had more heat in their entrances than HHH-Lesnar. That match/feud was a bust.
Personally, I'm putting the build to Cena-Rock's blame on Vince.
ReplyDeleteKeep dropping baby, almost at 1m flat and I win...wait, what do we win? Oh yeah, nothing...
ReplyDeleteAll that will happen is HHH will walk into his office, see this:
ReplyDeletehttp://stream1.gifsoup.com/view4/4108183/stephanie-mcmahon-legs-o.gif
..and 9 months later another McMahon will be born
I doubt it will take much of a hit. Sure, it came in below projections, but it will still likely be the most ordered PPV this year (unless Mayweather somehow pulls off some outrageous number), the gate was MASSIVE, and even though it did less buys than last year it did more profit thanks to the price increase. Given that it sold basically on the WM alone (it sure wasn't the build up) they should be pretty happy.
ReplyDeleteWrestlemania from now on is just going to be a massive corporate showcase where nothing out of the ordinary happens, which is why they make up for it with awesome Raws the next night
ReplyDeleteCorrection, the fans make up for it with an awesome raw the next night.
ReplyDeletewhat the hell man, I never blamed Hunter in the first place
ReplyDeleteYeah, true. Can't remember anything other than Ziggler cashing in, which was great
ReplyDeleteWell. Played.
ReplyDeleteNo 1.1M
ReplyDeleteThat's bullshit.
I demand an overseas recount. Im sure theres 50K more people who ordered this ppv.
Especially when he was facing the Undertaker, who's as big a WM draw as anybody at this point. But I still don't see what the big deal is, as I said below they still made a shitload of money. I think the only real fuckup was projecting a number as high as 1.3m.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing HHH is at fault for is not cleaning up the mess HBK left on his stomach before the match.
ReplyDeleteYou don't remember Sheamus/Orton?
ReplyDeleteWait... Rock-Undertaker? Huh?
ReplyDeleteMaybe HBK would have got a better reaction if most of the fans weren't confused as to why some random homeless guy was coming to his music. C'mon Shawn, it's fucking Wrestlemania, you can do better than showing up looking like you spent the whole day fishing or something. Not that there's anything wrong with spending the whole day fishing, but if I'm going out after I change into something decent.
ReplyDeleteHHH, Lesnar, Punk, UT, Rock, Cena, Vince. Those were the participants for the 3 "main events" (and the boss), and the build to each one of them was phoned in. Small wonder.
ReplyDeleteIMO, it's time to drop The Streak as one of the attractions. Nobody believes its going to end.
ReplyDeleteI was talking about how he said that he thinks they should have promoted Punk more, not about Rock.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you but not for the same reasons...
ReplyDeleteAs UT gets older and older, why should I be invested in who eventually beats him? He's a broken down old man, whose best days are now behind him. Even if a guy beat him, the kayfabe argument would be "You might have been able to beat him now that he's broken down from 20+ years of matches, but not at his peak".
I recognize not everyone thinks this way but it's been the thing about the streak in the last 3 years or so that's really got me.
I thinking breaking a million should be considered a success no matter what, regardless of the monster number a year before
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/StJ-OK4jiSY
ReplyDeleteHey now, Dougie's right about The Miz.
ReplyDeleteHe is a main eventer....of PPV pre-shows, which would make Justin Gabriel and Zack Ryder main eventers too if you go by that kind of warped logic.
BTW, gotta love how he calls Punk ratings poison when Miz's quarter-hour segments generally are lower rated than Punk's. So if CM Punk is ratings poison, then what does that make Miz?
And I should point out that in nearly all of those low-rated shows, John Cena, not CM Punk, had the lowest rated quarter hour segments, but why let facts get in the way of a couple of outrageous claims?
The only reason for the increased buys the last few WM's are BECAUSE of the Rock, if anything he's the last person that should be blamed for something
ReplyDeleteThere's really only one viable year left in The Streak, anyway. I'm more curious to see what they do when they can't rely on it as a crutch anymore.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately THAT Steph is loooong gone
ReplyDeleteRock's not touching a wrestling ring anytime soon, if ever. His movie career will make him just as much money without having to risk his spleen falling out.
ReplyDeleteI just saw this. It'll be interesting to see what happens with that number -- they tend to waver back and forth a little as they get close to finalizing it, so I wonder how much of a chance there is that it falls under a million when all is said and done.
ReplyDeleteSheamus and Orton don't remember Sheamus/Orton.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Vince had 1.05 in mind when he drove a Brinks truck full of money up to the door of Brock and Dwayne. I think we can all agree that Vince is taking a bath with those investments.
ReplyDeleteNow we're got Chyna-Steph
ReplyDeleteI liked that so far since coming back, Lesnar has kayfabe quit the company twice.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm in the minority but I think The Streak should be left alone. There is no point to ending and it is one of the last great organic wrestling angles still around.
ReplyDeleteHe was on the pre-show that nobody watched.
ReplyDeleteBecause Dougie hates CM Punk and likes the things that he thinks are popular. Like Two and Half Men and Big Bang Theory.
ReplyDeleteUndertaker and that ratings poison had the match of the night.
ReplyDeleteThere was no chance that Rock was beating Cena again. Given how the book Cena it was a partial miracle it happened the first time around, but twice? It would have been shocking - and shocking doesn't occur on WWE pay per views anymore. So, with that in mind, if you, like a lot of people, are not a big John Cena fan, would you pay $70 (or whatever it was) to see John Cena win in a foregone conclusion? There was no mystery here, Wrestlemania was going to end with John Cena winning the WWE Championship.
ReplyDeleteWith Brock/HHH, again, it's kind of predictable who's going to win. The stipulations? Triple H will have to retire? Triple H isn't as beloved as they think he is and he just retired and came back six months prior - odds are he's not really going to retire, even if he loses.
Undertaker was beating CM Punk. There was really no chance he wasn't.
So we have three predictable matches, and the outcomes really didn't matter anyway. Who cares if John Cena's the WWE Champion or not? The shows about him whether or not he's carrying around a belt. Who cares if Brock wins? Triple H isn't really retiring. Who cares if CM Punk loses? You knew he was going to and it's not like anything major is going to happen to him if he does. Predictable matches with nothing on the line - they should be happy with what they got.
Honestly, if it weren't for the Rock just guest hosting, I think Wrestlemania 27 would have done disastrous numbers. For crying out loud, the main event was MIZ vs. John Cena.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to "Joe" for predicting 1.05m.
ReplyDeleteTwo and a Half Men is still popular?
ReplyDeleteProbably not low enough for them to change it up too much. Still got a few more years before they hit the panic button.
ReplyDeleteThey'll just keep upping the price to make up the difference.
ReplyDeleteBest post I've read in a while. That pretty much sums it up for me.
ReplyDeleteYes. It's one of the highest rated shows on TV, but it also benefits from its timeslot.
ReplyDeleteBig Bang Theory is awesome.
the point would be twofold. The first, and most important, is to put over a new star (not Cena). The 2nd would be to remind people that anything can happen at WM
ReplyDeletelol. Damn, I bet other people wish they were as creative as HHH to use that badass and funny motherfucker gimmick. A stroke of Lenny Poffo, some might say. I just hope he is okay from his concussion--remember, we can still tweet our prayers for him or send them via the WWE App.
ReplyDeleteGoddamn, Stephanie was fucking smokin'.
ReplyDeleteYes, gay jokes. I upvoted him because I believe in them.
ReplyDeleteLook, just admit that you hate black people.
ReplyDeleteReplace 'HHH' with 'Vince' and you're onto something hot.
ReplyDeleteProbably should have done the cage match at WM... without the bogus career stipulation.
ReplyDelete"Throw HHH in there for ppv matches and buyrates will be through the roof."
ReplyDeleteI had no idea it was comedy hour on the BoD. First Dougie with his Miz-crush and now this post.
If the Punk/Cena match we got for free on RAW was the WM main event, with Cena finally ending the epic reign of Punk... it would have been the greatest match of all time, bar none... absolutely no question about it.
ReplyDeleteThat match was off the hook. You throw Rock-Brock in another match and UT vs. a built up Ziggler and you have yourself a more unpredictible card with the full-timers tearing the place up.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking even, Hollywood Rock vs Undertaker at WM... just imagine that fucking match.
ReplyDeleteOn paper that sounds good, but at this stage in their careers, they need someone to carry them that's why I like Ziggler vs. Taker (plus for the rub) and Rock-Brock always had really good chemistry.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with that is similar to one of the problems with Cena/Rock - Cena winning isn't the ending a lot of people want to see, again. Story-wise, it's a good one - Cena can't beat Punk, then finally defeats him to not only redeem himself but to end Punk's epic title reign, it's just that isn't the ending everyone wants to see. But at this point they might as well film their shows in front of the WCW Pro crowd for how much they care about crowd response.
ReplyDeleteYeah but he keeps WINNING. If someone beats him next year they can still say "Undertaker may be older but he still beat Triple H twice and CM Punk in the last three years"
ReplyDeleteThe thing with Rock and Brock is Brock's the badass UFC guy, and Rock's the guy from Fast and Furious, so there's a male demographic that would love to see that match. I'm not sure if it's still there now that they're back to being regular WWE guys, but it was there.
ReplyDeleteI see potential in Undertaker/Ziggler. Like 97 Undertaker/Michaels. They can't have Ziggler win at WM (well, can, but won't) but I wouldn't mind them ripping of the 1st HITC with them on some ppv.
Yeah, I'm with you. They're both married to women, they're not homosexual, nor is there anything wrong with it if they happened to be.
ReplyDelete411 had a story up (no doubt lifted from another site) that when Punk comes back he's wrestling Brock at SummerSlam. Heyman turns on Punk for leaving to set it up. Who knows if that's true, and if it is how many times it'll change between now and then, but it'd be fucking awesome.
ReplyDeleteAs I said once in a thread, I wouldn't show up to WATCH Mania dressed like that.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been an awesome match but I don't think they had the balls to do it. I think they'd be more afraid of buys than crowd reaction. I think the crowd would accept it if they got an awesome match, especially considering the writing would be on the wall anyway.
ReplyDeleteAlso, to go off on a tangent. Wonder if this show will be the biggest individual payouts to the workers ever. It made a TON of revenue and like 20 guys worked on the show, especially after the match cancellation took out 8 of them.
I'd normally agree but that WAS a funny visual. Looked like SOME kind of blow had taken place.
ReplyDeleteRANDY SAVAGE! WE ARE AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteNext year I'm hoping they list all of the Intercontinental champions in order. It'll be all PATT PATTERSON! CLAP CLAP CLAP-CLAP-CLAP and then later MISTER PERFECT! CLAP CLAP CLAP-CLAP-CLAP.
ReplyDeleteWhen they reach 1998 the entire arena will descend into chaos trying to remember all the Russo-era title changes and just as a full riot breaks out and waves of fire sweep across the (now cracked) camera lens, you'll be able to hear VAL VAN... no... BILLY GU...no... RO? RO-O-AD D-O-GG! CLAP CLAP...
Now I understand why Dougie seems to hate you so much.
ReplyDeleteWORKED OUT TOO HARD
ReplyDeleteNOW STEPH IS LIKE
CHYNA IN HER HAAAAAAMS
Any pacific usage of it or just in general?
ReplyDeleteI don't know what his current deal is, but they should have tried to negotiate him up to ~40 dates so they could have used smoke and mirrors booking ala WCW Hogan to make it seem like he's there more than he actually is.
ReplyDeleteWorking half the Raws and half the PPVs gives the impression of "full-time".
I have this odd feeling that nobody will have one complaint about Brock doing the job for Punk....
ReplyDeleteSome random jobber is going to be the winner?!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Scott's constant boast about how they will break records have shown him up, though he was probably ribbing us the whole time. Looking back at the card now I'm actually trying to still see what was legitimately enticing on the card? Not that a million buys is anything to sniff at but considering how much they paid Rock and Brock this is seriously disappointing and they have no one to blame but themselves for some of the shittiest main event booking I've seen in years.
ReplyDeleteWith Mania costing more this year, wouldnt they possibly be breaking records?
ReplyDeleteor could care less.
ReplyDeleteC'mon man, that's not fair and completely inaccurate. I hate Samoan people.
ReplyDeleteAll kidding aside, that was just me venting my spleen (or trolling, take your pic) in response to the unadulterated fawning people do over the Rock here. I'm going to post less glib thoughts in a second.
I don't know man, he showed with Punk he can still go. The crappy matches with HHH are on HHH IMO.
ReplyDeleteDespite my venting about the Rock earlier I think the blame has to lay at the feet of the booking. Rock/Cena was the same build as last year (with a better match, to be fair) with an outcome that was never in doubt. Brock/HHH had a crappy build as well and had a dull as dishwater match. Punk/Taker had a largely atrocious build but a great match. There was very little that made me want to buy Mania.
ReplyDeleteNot to get all fantasy booker but they should have had Punk keep the belt till Mania, have Cena win the Rumble, have Rock win Elimination Chamber or something and get in the main event, then have Cena pin Rock and win the title at Mania. There's an instant feud set up for Punk (he can still take time off, just say that he's so angry about the outcome he's leaving for a while) with Cena and Cena still gets his win.
Not many buys? LOL!
ReplyDeleteProblem is you can't guarantee Punk and Cena would have that good a match at Mania, and they've fought so much that it doesn't draw much butyrate wise.
ReplyDeleteWell, WWE is in a lot worse shape than I thought.
ReplyDeleteJust Joe?
ReplyDeleteThe day John Cena retires, that's when the panicking begins.
ReplyDeleteYou know that Dougie is eventually going to reveal that he's the reason for the low ratings. Why? Because he wanted Punk to be perceived as a failure so that Punk could never have his dream match at WrestleMania.
ReplyDeletePunk isn't the target of course. It's just part of a nonsensical revenge plot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNgxyL5zEAk
The other joke is to say that HHH purposely put dry ice on himself, just so he could work through the pain and show how tough he is.
ReplyDeleteTo combine them: HBK ejaculates dry ice, which HHH purposely had him fire at his stomach so he could work through the pain and show how tough he is.
A third permutation: HBK has done so many drugs that he ejaculates dry ice, which HHH had him fire at his stomach so he could work through the pain and show how tough he is.
BBT has its moments.
ReplyDeletebragging rights and "____-damus" after your name.
ReplyDeleteThis guy gets it.
ReplyDeleteThe HHH matches are the pure definition if "meh"
i disagree because of the way they have structured streak matches in the past.
ReplyDeleteIf you are an up and comer (Orton in 05) then you get a good amount of offense in, but you slip on a banana peel and lose.
if you are a made guy (HBK. HHH) you get a ton of offense in but ultimately fall to one of the four finishers he has.
the problem IMO is that I dont care about anyone that much thats new to take on Taker. He either will chew up the new guys and leave them with no offense. Or no-sell their offense so badly they wont be taken seriously in the future.
Plus he only works once a year, so when he goes over... thats it. theres no return match. You can say "i took Taker to the limit... but i lost... like the other 21 people"
fact remains, he still lost.
Im about to go into full contradictory mode.... Wins and losses do matter when it comes to certain people.
I was having a back and forth with some johnny come lately and i kept saying wins and losses dont matter. Im gonna retract that statement and say that they do... for certain people.
A win over Taker at WM means something.
A win over Cena at Extreme rules means nothing.
Just in general. Also, I think you mean specific usage.
ReplyDeleteI was only off by 67k buys. Less than last year (so please let's hope now they don't have to run rock/ cena 3) but still a nice number.
ReplyDeleteBiggest feud in wrestling, insane chemistry between the two...I totally agree with this
ReplyDeleteSo in about twenty years?
ReplyDeleteBecause I speak the truth?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, look at the build to Mania 27 before the Rock was announced as the guest host. You had such glorious moments as "Cena and Miz: Unlikely Tag Partners" and "Miz gets the upper hand on Cena for three weeks straight". Never mind the fact that the result was insanely obvious until the moment they introduced the Rock, then suddenly the focused switched from "how badly is Miz going to lose" to "how is the Rock going to screw John Cena out of the title".
Wrestlemania 26 had a surprisingly stacked card in Batista/Cena, Bret/Vince, Taker/Shawn, and Jericho/Edge, and the numbers were pretty lackluster for that show if I'm not mistaken. The card for 27 was Miz/Cena (which was a glorified squash the last time it happened), Edge/Del Rio, and Taker/Triple H. Something tells me that was going to draw a LOT less without the Rock.
Big Bang Theory WAS awesome.
ReplyDeleteNow it's watch the nerds and their ridiculously awkward relationships. Seriously, the Sheldon/Amy relationship is probably the worst thing on television.
I disagree. I love the Sheldon-Amy relationship and seeing Sheldon slowly evolve. Adding the women expanded the show's universe.
ReplyDeleteThe scene with Sheldon and Amy in the next to last episode of the season was greatness.
That should've BEEN the character we got from the Rock. Especially now that he is a certified Hollywood star and not just the Scorpion King
ReplyDeleteI assume that you're just going for the obvious joke, but if not I don't think that would be hypocritical of anyone. I don't think anyone's saying that Brock should never job. People have a problem with Brock jobbing to HHH, and to Cena when he did (everyone's fantasy booking of that angle involved Cena coming back to beat Brock).
ReplyDeleteA running narrative around here is that the part-timers should be used specifically to put over full-timers. Punk's exactly the kind of guy Brock should be jobbing to. Although I'm not sure Brock has nearly the rub left to give that he could've last year, before splitting his first four matches.
The triple threat was right there for them, and I suggested as much before Elimination Chamber. Punk could've won the belt back from Rock at EC. As an added bonus, you now have the championship being defended at
ReplyDeletehouse shows between EC and WM, and the champion actually appearing on
TV.
Cena's got the Rumble title shot, and Rock has his automatic rematch clause. Triple threat at WM. Cena pins Rock for the title, and gets his win back. Punk complains that he was never beaten for his title, and Cena still can't beat him. Punk challenges Cena at Extreme Rules in a crazy stips match to blow off their feud. Cena beats Punk clean to end it, and then Punk takes his time off.
Brock could've faced Taker for the Streak, and we never get the ongoing abortions of Brock-HHH II and III.
No... that was my own peeve that people mispronounce 'specific' as 'pacific'. Maybe it's a Dumb British thing.
ReplyDeleteAh, got it.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you. WM27 had one of the shittiest WM cards ever, with a champion who'd been made to look like a total joke month in, month out since winning it, in a match that had been totally devalued by token of his opponent effectively saying he didn't actually care about him or the belt for fucking weeks. That buyrate had to have been carried by The Rock.
ReplyDeleteOkay, thanks to SHough I take it back. Seriously, you guys are right. If he can still go, he can still go.
ReplyDeleteHere's to Cena-UT this year!
You love watching an asshole verbally and psychologically abuse his "girlfriend"?
ReplyDeleteThen who's fault was it? Certainly not Snitsky's.
ReplyDeleteBrock shouldve beat Cena first but you dont have the face of the franchise lose to a guy that you built and later bailed on ya....
ReplyDelete.....wins and losses obviously dont matter in the year 2013 and I think the match overall was great and the beating Cena took stands out a lot more than him winning with a chain shot...
...as far as the HHH feud, he won 2 out of 3, I dont think that is so bad. Plus, nobody really knows what Brock's contract looks like. Maybe he will only work with certain guys that he trusts in the ring. I cant see him wanting to risk injury ala the Rock by getting in the ring with some green guy like Ryback....
....on top of that the Brock brand isnt damaged by losing to marquee guys like Cena and HHH. Losing to a Dolph Ziggler or a CM Punk might be good for the wrestling business, but since when did Brock ever care about what is good for business other than his own?
1. A WWE VP (John Saboor) was confident (and that they expected) at least 1.3 million buys.
ReplyDelete2. WM 28 did 1.217.
3. If this number holds, that is a 14% drop off year of year.
It's still over 1m and had increased purchase price, but "LOL!" makes you look moronic when the drop off is 14%. That's nothing to sneeze at.
Sheldon is funny, and you're seeing their relationship evolve very slowly over time, given their two personalities.
ReplyDeleteIts his Barry Horowitz in 1995 moment.
