Quick question. Do you think Antonio has a future in the WWE? He has a great look, great moveset and was featured well on RAW against Bryan. He also has Zeb as his manager. For some reason though, they don't seem to be utilising him as well as they could.
Eh, I'm neutral towards him.
He's only been on the main roster a little over a year. His time will come.
ReplyDeleteI think he is the Swiss Army Knife of the WWE.
ReplyDeleteI really like the guy, so glad they stopped the stupid yodeling gimmick.
ReplyDeleteMy only beef that holds him back from anointing him a future main eventer is the cartoonish faces he makes when he's selling. Reminds me of a Mike Tyson's Punch out character..which his character kind of is I guess.
When Sami Zayne gets main-rostered, I could imagine those two pushing each other up the card.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like the stupid childish faces he makes... he looks like someone in a movie about wrestling trying to sell the way they think a wrestler does... other than that he is fantastic in the ring and above average overall.
ReplyDeleteI think there's little doubt he has a main event future after his match with DB on Monday.
ReplyDeleteDude seems like a future star to me, especially with guys like Punk and Bryan up top
ReplyDeleteTo the OP's point, his varied moveset really does set him apart from the generic punch-kick-stomp repertoire so many WWE heels get stuck into.
ReplyDeleteYay, first question posted:)
ReplyDeleteWhat are the plans for RVD at Summerslam? Why not have Antonio Cesaro vs RVD? That seems like a good way to test how the crowd responds to Antonio. And it could be an awesome match.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness SOMEONE caught it and commented. ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was about to say the same thing.
ReplyDeleteCesaro excels at working with high-flyers. Given 10-15 minutes, that could be an amazing match, especially with how Van Dam has been working.
ReplyDeletervd goes for the 5-star but cesaro is playing possum and pops up with his uppercut~
ReplyDeletewhat about ambroses faces when hes selling?
ReplyDeleteI'd pay for a PPV just to see that finish alone.
ReplyDeleteI got this idea while reading the NXT review. Could you imagine if they brought the Zayne/Cesaro feud to WWE and eventually had Cesaro beat Zayne in a "Deportation match", leading to a Midnight Rider angle that reintroduces Zayne with as an El Generico-esque masked luchadore of suspicious origin? Then Zayne feuds with Cesaro using this persona and continues to use it afterward (surviving a mask vs. Colter's beard match, or something along those lines). It would be a way to give the El Generico gimmick a back-story that makes it meaningful to the fans.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Zayne is doing fine without the persona, but he was so good at that character that it seems like a shame to not try and use it at some point in time. I honestly can't tell if this is a great or ridiculous idea.
He goes too far with it sometimes also, but I think it fits his character a little better than it does for Cesaro.
ReplyDeleteBeat me to it
ReplyDeletei always loved how he sold stuff like ddt's, so you know he'd sell the uppercut in mid air it like death
ReplyDeletei like baby swiss
ReplyDeleteThis would be an AMAZING idea. It's just a fun, old-school wrestling angle that would easily get both guys over....but since it's a wrestling angle and not a TV storyline, the writers have probably never heard of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a mark for the Midnight Rider angle. I wholly endorse this. Giant Machine, Blue Blazer 98-99, Mr. America--it has never failed to draw fans in with its ridiculousness no matter what era. El Generico's not a bad looking guy, which is why they probably don't have him wearing a mask. But you are right: he pretty much perfected that gimmick and it's worth a shot.
ReplyDeleteCan someone in the universe please explain to me, that of all things, Cesaro has gotten a knock (by the suits/brass of WWE) for being "boring"? He's got Cena-esque strength but with Regal-like ability. He's got a great look. He has a moveset that inspires awe. He has the ability to put on matches deserving of 5 snowflakes. And he is comfortable on the mic (unlike 1/3 of the roster that has the deer-in-the-headlights appearance whenever it's their turn to speak).
ReplyDeleteIf the age old question is asked of whom do I start a wrestling company with, Cesaro has to be in with my top ten or even top five guys.
I would not be surprised if there are combating members of Creative or the McMahons over the issue of how to use this guy because he seems to shine one week and get buried the next. Rinse and repeat.
I guess it's a testament to how good he is that I don't flip back and forth when he has a match on RAW, because you never know if he's going to pull out a move that's fucking awesome(like the Swiss Death uppercut, or the deadlift gutwrench suplex).
ReplyDeleteyeah, I've been hoping for something like this- get him to be El Generico as part of the joke.
ReplyDeleteThe Blue Blazer gimmick ended well.
ReplyDeleteSWISS JOKEZ.
ReplyDeleteeasy... he already came to the table with that stuff
ReplyDeleteergo since we didnt create what makes him great, it must therefore be held against him
Sometimes Cesaro's great, sometimes he a little flat. He pretty much a hit or swiss miss kind of guy.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, it kinda fell flat at the end.
ReplyDeleteVince doesn't give two shits about what he did in the indies.
ReplyDeleteHe sold the RKO really well, and I love his piledriver sell beecause it's so ridiculous.
ReplyDeletedoesnt matter
ReplyDeletewhat currently shines about cesaro predates his time in wwe and was in no way formed by any wwe training, which is a major no-no for vince. how *dare* someone not a be 100% a product of the wwe machine!
He looks like a wrestler not an entertainer. For as much shit as we think WWE gives Dolph, they're clearly behind the guy in part because he looks fantastic. He could be a male fitness model if he didn't do wrestling. I think Vince can at least respect that. Claudio's built but he's not super defined. And his presence is good but he doesn't jump off the screen -- he reminds me a lot of the old foreign heels from the '60s and '70s, guys who could work and work a crowd, but also guys who weren't Superstar Billy Graham. I don't think Vince ever got over his infatuation with that over the top kind of heel. A guy like Claudio is serviceable in the midcard, maybe even occasionally main eventing, but he's not a full-time top guy in Vince's mind.
ReplyDeleteI DONUT GET IT. EXPLAIN PLSSSS
ReplyDelete"For some reason though, they don't seem to be utilising him as well as they could."
ReplyDeleteThis could be said about most of the roster.
This week he did it during the fucking commercial break; you needed THE APP to see it.
ReplyDeleteYes, they have to tear him down then build him back up. Even though the reason why the hired him in the first place (indy rep) is what they now don't like about him.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I hold out hope that the match against Bryan was his coming out party, and he starts beating some guys and gets treated like a star. Otherwise their #1 contender took 20 minutes to beat a jobber.
You are both terrible.
ReplyDeleteCesaro's been used for consistently good, long matches lately, and that's about it. He went 20 minutes with Sheamus, and about 15 with Ziggler, and he's been around with Orton more than once
ReplyDeleteI love it! I hate when I read awesome ideas like these because there's no way the WWE will do it. Even though getting a masked guy over is just a license to print money off of kids buying the masks.
ReplyDeleteI asked Cesaro once what's so great about being Swiss anyway. His response was, "Well, the flag's a big plus."
ReplyDeleteAll interesting points. thanks for the response.
ReplyDeleteThese jokes are really starting to swiss me off.
ReplyDelete.......AHHHHH!! Scott you a funny guy man!
ReplyDeleteI met up with him for dinner once, he was surprisingly on time.
ReplyDeleteCause he had a watch.
I'm doing this wrong, aren't it?
Again, Vince doesn't care what Claudio did in ROH. Whatever the reason for him losing his push in early 2013 had nothing to do with him not being a "WWE guy".
ReplyDeleteYellow Dog?
ReplyDeleteThese jokes are all full of holes.
ReplyDeleteI was and will remain a huge Brian Pillman mark, but I have never seen footage of it (I know it exists, I just haven't seen it).
ReplyDeletecan you submit that to Lawler? I'm sure he'll be pro Swiss again eventually.
ReplyDeleteCould we get Cesaro another mid-tier move and call it the Beige Alert?
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/H06kpn2C3Fk
"If I don't survive, tell my wife hello."
Claudio very much has a superstar look (his build reminds me of Randy Orton), and while I obviously have no way of knowing for sure, I don't think Vince's supposed apathy/dislike of him has to do with his appearance.
ReplyDeleteAnd being different is what is going to hold him back. You know WWE only wants the same generic cookie cutter style offense from the heels. The only thing worse then being different is getting yourself over without the WWE's help, see Ryder, Zack.
ReplyDeleteLove it. I would add that whenever they wrestle in Canada, he goes mask less and claims to not know who El Generico is.
ReplyDeleteSoda Popinski all the way.
ReplyDeleteADR is just a beefed out Don Flamenco.
