Backstage Update on the Shield

According to this week's Figure Four Weekly Newsletter, a source as told Bryan Alvarez that Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns had heat on them in recent weeks. The source said that he believes Rollins got heat from an issue with the Big Show, which was described as petty, and Reigns got heat on him after a tag match at a house show when he was involved in a shouting match with Randy Orton over a blown spot. The source also said that Vince wanted them punished but that HHH did not and was fighting to keep them strong on TV. Another source states that the heat on both men went away after their impressive match on the Money in the Bank pre-show against the Usos.

ESPN Classic Will Start Airing Old Episodes of the Global Wrestling Federation

  1. So every time Randy Orton gets involved in a blown spot, he openly bitches about it and the OTHER guy gets punished? If Randy the common denominator in all these hissyfits, where's his punishment?

Good for Triple H for realizing that not every minor backstage infraction needs to lead to an immediate de-push.

  2. Global on ESPN Classics? Where's my DVR remote?

I used to come home every Monday-Thursday to watch the GWF, it was a lot of fun for the short time it lasted. Plus, it gave first real looks to Harlem Heat, Marcus Bagwell, the Patriot, Lightning Kid. Very pleased to hear this.

I may be the only one...

  3. I read that the Rollins/Show issue stems from Rollins not shaking hands correctly. Not that he isn't shaking hands, mind you, just that he isn't doing it in an acceptable manner. Petty is right.

  4. Bayside High has more maturity than the WWE Locker Room.

    ReplyDelete
  5. No way Jose. I was into to Global too!

    ReplyDelete
  6. HHH spent six mo the jobbing because of the curtain call. I think he has a special insight on when a backstage punishment needs to be dealt with in front of the cameras.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Punishing on-screen talent with loses for something they did backstage only hurts the product. Fine them or have them help set up the ring or something.

  8. Good fucking lord, I hate that company.

  9. Clearly you don't respect and have a passion for THIS BUSINESS

  10. STATEMENT: Orton is involved in a dust-up with the Shield.
STATEMENT: The Shield may get punished for it.
STATEMENT: Vince McMahon wants the Shield punished.
    STATEMENT: HHH does not.

OBSERVATION: Orton's about to turn heel.
OBSERVATION: Mister McMahon is playing the anti-smark-darling card on the air.
OBSERVATION: HHH wants to ingratiate himself to the Internet.
OBSERVATION: HHH is not and seems to have never been a Randy Orton fan.

    CONCLUSION: This is a work.

'As previously reported, there was backstage heat on the Shield's Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. There was speculation that had to do with Seth Rollins not knowing how to shake hands with other talent properly'

jesus h fucking christ, wrestlers are the most juvenile, petty sumbitches around

  12. I like the way you think, sir. Stick around.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hell no, you weren't. I loved watching GWF after school.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah there is a handshake that workers are supposed to do, and they get pissy if you give a legitimate one, and even worse if you give a manly one where you squeeze the other guys hand... this isn't unique to WWE either, even indy guys buy into all of this workers code horseshit.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think you mean The Ebony Experience, The Handsome Stranger, the Patriot and The Lightning Kid.

'I used to come home every Monday-Thursday to watch the GWF,'

what did you do fri - sun instead of going home?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't recall it being on ESPN on Fridays. So I probably went off and did something else.

    ReplyDelete
  19. He was jobbing since his contract was up in August 1996 and the WWF had no interest in pushing a guy who might've jumped to WCW. Once he re-signed, HHH got the IC belt a couple of months later.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Apparently the problem was that Rollins thought Show's hands were only the size of serving trays, not frying pans.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Insane... I need more explanation to this carny shake... if I am allowed, sir.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Threadjack: I will be accepting apologies for anyone who criticized me in the christain/ziggler thread *coughcultstatuscough*
Its hard be right all the time guys, I swear it is :P

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm all in on the GWF reairings. That was my shit as a little kid

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's the first time I've heard that, and the "HHH is being punished" deal has been confirmed by Shawn and HHH.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Its nothing too complex, but they are supposed to shake lightly and the one person kind of grabs the others fingers as opposed to locking hands... not sure if that is a very good explanation or not... and I only did indy training for a few months before I gave up on it but I am still close with a lot of them and Mrs. Parallax1978 is the photographer for the promotion so I see a lot of the stupid shit that they think about "respect", and "Paying your dues" and "who you have worked with" and "the workers code" etc... quite frankly worrying too much about this shit is one of the things that holds this particular indy promotion back from being successful, as someone who has been toiling around the indy's for 100 years is treated like a huge success and is deferred to a lot when they don't deserve it... like you are supposed to be in awe of a guy who works as a part time stock boy at Wal Mart but has been wrestling in front of crowds of like 300 for 15 years... that was really hard for me and one of several reasons it didn't work out.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think HHH realizes the obvious fact that burying a guy who was getting over can cost you money if no one wants to pay to see him anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I liked that show a lot too. The story about the Nigerian money man that was going to take Joe Pedicino national is awesome too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. They should bring back the Cartel. That was a stable.

    ReplyDelete
  29. GWF was damn good fun after school back in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That Triple H is a real dick.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Global made my little brother a wrestling fan, who later made me one. Can't wait to rewatch GWF.

    ReplyDelete
  32. How were you right?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Also, what was he right about?

    ReplyDelete
  34. You have to give the dead fish handshake.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Warrior touched on the handshake during his tremendous Macho Man tribute and also while bashing Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You're asking for logic when it comes to Randy Orton? The guy's one slip-up away from his third strike and he's about to get handed the world title again! Don't ask for logic when it comes to Randy Orton!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Also who is he?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Christian taking zigglers spot

    ReplyDelete
  39. He's getting zigglers push

    ReplyDelete
  40. No he's not, and you're not right. The Ziggler Del Rio feud is played out, so it makes sense for Del Rio to move onto other challengers and have Ziggler feud with Big E. and try to get him over.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Played out? They only had two matches counting the cash in. The wwe has run the same WHC title matches 3 or 4 times in a row consistently for years. Going to feuding from the #4 guy in the company to a green rookie from nxt is a demotion. Meanwhile Christian is winning every match they book him in and is getting a summerslam match against del rio, and I bet he goes over to drop the belt to sandow

    ReplyDelete
  42. Not to sound anti-Kliq, but the two of them also have a vested interest in selling the story of how epic the curtain call was.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yea, and them running multiple matches in a row sucks and they shouldn't be doing it.

Ziggler has a ready made angle with Big E. and AJ, so instead of him wasting time with Del Rio, let him feud with those two and try to get Big E. over.

They can always return to Ziggler v. Del Rio if they want to put the belt back on him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree it sucked, especially since the same guy usually went over but its weird that ziggler got his cash in, jobbed, and went back to the "mid_card"

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't think he's back in the midcard permanently.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Best news I heard all day, I've been clamoring for ESPNC to do this for a long time. Now, I wonder if they can get the WCCW Legends shows too? (I THINK ESPN only aired this as far as World Class, I used to think they got the original shows too, but think syndication or MSG Network got them here)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Triple H backstage >>>>>>>>>>> Triple H on camera.

    ReplyDelete
  48. P.S. I want Scott to review these shows if he has ESPNC, only to see him lose his mind when they get to mid-92 and up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Serious? Or is this just a wrestling meme?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah we keep saying "back in the midcard" but when has he even been in the main event picture? I just find it odd he was a mid carder that seemed like a no brainer to move up the card, we wait and wait, then he basically gets his cash in out of the blue, has a cup of coffee in the main event and gets jobbed to ADR with no return match. Meanwhile theres other guys like sandow and christian being positioned as main players for the WHC. I just never imagined they would use christian as anything more than what jericho was doing this year, but it seems like he is now getting the blonde babyface workrate dude push, when they have ziggler sitting right there
