I'd like to start this off by saying I was at Kemper that night. I was 13 years old at the time, and after finding out that he had passed my parents banned WWF tv from our house, only lifting the ban after WCW went out of business. My father still thinks that them not telling us in the crowd what happened is one of the most deplorable things ever to happen in wrestling. He's only recently started watching old Wrestling at The Chase shows on youtube. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not some sicko trying to troll or sully anyone's good name, nor am I trying to make you mad by bringing it up. In many ways, I'm still that scared, confused kid who witnessed something traumatic, still trying to compartmentalize the most horrible thing I've ever seen in my life.
I feel dirty even thinking this...
I can't help it Scott. I don't have this big conspiracy theory or anything, I just keep seeing Austin saying, "Fuck it, let'em drop."
--------------------------------------
I'm gonna go with "no".
Cripes, imagine the emails that DON'T get published.
ReplyDelete...no.
People on the Internet are disturbing.
ReplyDeleteWhy this seems perfectly sane, and well thought out.
ReplyDeleteI once shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.
ReplyDeletewhat is this is dont even...
ReplyDeleteI always was curious what WWE ever did with the fotage of Owen falling. I'm actually shocked it never leaked in any capacity. Everything leaks.
ReplyDeleteI've read (and admittedly posted) some stupid shit on this Blog but this has to be the single most fucked up thing I've encountered -- It's bad enough this thought entered your mind but it's even more disturbing that you posted it as a legitimate question -- I'm gonna' go now...
ReplyDeleteNo, didn't happen. Austin would only murder someone with a forklift.
ReplyDeleteEvery once in a while you encounter some, for lack of a better term, universal human decency (at least that's what I'm going to rationalize as being the reason that horrible footage isn't out there anywhere -- I hope it isn't anyway; I've never even thought of looking for it)...
ReplyDeleteIts not a completly stupid question...there is a reason the family and police completed an investigation after the fact. Its just dumb to think it was Austin more than 14 years later.
ReplyDeleteOf course it wasn't Austin. It was Rikishi. He did it for The Rock.
ReplyDeleteThe police investigate nearly every death (hence the existence of the sheriff-coroner) -- It's a completely stupid question -- Dude has every right to ask it, but it doesn't make it any less stupid...
ReplyDelete... the broken neck is what made Austin sympathetic enough to be champ in the first place.
ReplyDeleteIt did leak and you can find it. But why would you want to?
ReplyDeleteIt was Double J because he REALLY wanted to be IC Champ.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Kevin Kelly, that and the Droz footage are in the vaults, never to be used.
ReplyDeleteHaha you're right, but even at the time Bret was very vocal about how Vince could have been negligent on purpose, and wanted all the facts before saying wwe did nothing wrong and it was an accident.
ReplyDelete"... then I got distracted and missed it. All my friends tried to describe it to me, but it just isn't the same. Oh well, you've got your own problems. Ignore me."
ReplyDeleteHHH did it
ReplyDeleteWhy the hell did WCW going out of business all of a sudden make wrestling ok?
ReplyDeleteHeard that too.
ReplyDeleteObviously Austin would not plan something like that. I was watching an interview with Austin on that 4 disc dvd from a few years ago, it seems to this day he is upset with Owen for never apologizing to him. He has forgiven Eric Bischoff for firing him and even undertood why Eric did it but does not forgive Owen after so many years since that Summerslam match.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but Bret had a huge fucking axe to grind (with good reason) and I probably would have reacted the same -- There was definitely negligence involved but that doesn't change the fact that it was just a tragic and unnecessary accident that robbed us of one of the Good Guys -- To question whether Steve Williams was complicit in the death (making it a homicide) of Owen Hart is just careless and thoughtless...
ReplyDeleteI want whatever drugs this guy is on! You know what, on second thought I don't.
ReplyDeleteIt was Kevin Sullivan. He worships Satan, you know.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair it was rather traumatizing watching WCW from mid 98 to its death... I think it was a necessary safety precaution.
ReplyDeleteReally? No you can't
ReplyDeleteI've never heard any reliable account that it had leaked. Just a few really grainy still shots from fans.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered getting professional help, OP? That sounds snarky I know but you were still pretty young when you witnessed something horrible happen to someone who you saw on TV each week, and it had longstanding repercussions as your parents' ban on wrestling reminded you week after week of it having happened. It's not outside the realm of possibility that you could be diagnosed with a mild case of PTSD. Really, if you're thinking about this enough to dream up a sick scenario like the one above all these years later, you need some help.
ReplyDeleteI'm the biggest conspiracy nut you'll find but even high on mixture of PCP & shrooms I wouldn't believe this.
ReplyDeleteWait I thought he worshiped Stan? Or was it his brother that worshiped Stan?
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't Austin.
ReplyDeleteIT'S ME, AUSTIN! IT'S ME, AUSTIN, IT WAS ME ALL ALONG, AUSTIN!
I'd always been told that there's such thing as a stupid question.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that's wrong.
I could have sworn I have seen a (crappy) fan video of it at some point, but I am not going to say for sure and I am CERTAINLY not going to look for it again.
ReplyDeleteNo he killed Ben, er, Stevie Richards and his family, didn't he?
ReplyDeleteNo it was Vince Russo, or don't you believe Roddy Piper?
ReplyDeleteOnly one thing to do...#AskDixie about it!!!
ReplyDeleteIs this the person who posted the end of that New Jack vs. Grimes XPW match and tried to pass it off as such?
ReplyDeleteNot really that so much as he had to start doing the long promos and matches with crazy run ins and stuff to compensate and basically changed the tone of wrestling altogether. Plus then it necessitated him getting out of the business sooner, with his legacy and bank account in good shape. As a whole, breaking his neck was a good thing.
ReplyDeleteYes, although you could see Droz being carried out in the original version of the Don't Try This At Home PSA.
ReplyDeleteObama's fault.
ReplyDeleteNo he worshipped Natas (also a former, unseen member of the Legion of Doom and inventor of the Noxium Crystal)
ReplyDeleteI watched that promo again a couple of days ago. Was that for real? It was really weird. Piper sounded like a raving lunatic.
ReplyDeleteOfficer - "What makes you think Mr.McMahon is behind this Mr.Hart?"
ReplyDeleteBret - "I was the goddamn champion and he wanted me to lose to Shawn Michaels! In Canada!!!"
It's a paradox because I don't want to watch it, so why would I search for links to prove I'm right?
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to do anything you dont want to mate but the real reason you wont show us where is because no video of it exists
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those instances where everyone swears it was a shoot, but given who's involved, you have to wonder.
ReplyDeleteHe did it for DA Rock...
ReplyDeleteHe also did it for The People.
ReplyDeleteFuck you.
ReplyDeleteIf that footage existed then a sizable portion of the regulars here would have seen it by now, and there would be a lot of people chiming in that it existed.
ReplyDeleteI remember downloading a grainy fan video from one of those early file sharing programs around the time that Napster was released.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I can't say with 100% certainty that it was Owen, but I was definitely someone falling from very high onto the turnbuckle.
On the Spanish Commentary version (which used to be on YouTube), the commentator's reactions are heard as it happens as they overdub/narrate the video package. This is hopefully the nearest we come to it, God knows enough people have asked me about it.
ReplyDeleteOnly place in the world where someone can get downvoted for making a legit attempt to help someone
ReplyDeleteVince has been keeping the Samoans down for too long!
ReplyDeleteMakes you wonder if Austin and Owen crossed paths in the late-80's or early-90's in NJPW. Perhaps Chono told Owen to break Austin's neck at Summerslam to makeup for his injury. Then Austin found out about it and the Over the Edge incident occurred.
ReplyDeleteOnly in wrestling...
Yes, esp. in a world where the Twilight Zone accident and R. Budd Dwyer are readily available.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of weird rumors involving Owen and Austin, does anyone else remember on RSPW when people were claiming that Owen or Pillman faked their deaths, and one of them would be the higher power?
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I've never watched the Austin documentaries. Is that where the "Owen never apologized" story started?
ReplyDeleteAlso the only place where you can get downvoted for commenting on that downvoting.
ReplyDeleteI actually expected it as I knew people might think it's an overreaction to talk about professional help, but the guy clearly has some issues when it comes to what happened to Owen. I know it still makes me sad & angry, and I wasn't even there and was a good bit older than he was.
I'm thinking you shouldn't post any more questions from this guy ever again.
ReplyDeleteI want to see The Rock play a DA now.
ReplyDeleteI believe Bret also commented on it, confirming Austin's version.
ReplyDeleteI remember it. The Higher Power stuff was the very next ppv right? KOTR? I remember someone mentioning the Owen thing.
ReplyDeleteCocaine's a hell of a drug...
Listen, I know I came across weird...I was on my second adderal in less than 16 hours (prescribed!) and had just taken a rather harsh rip from Bong Backlund. I didn't expect you to publish this on the blog.LISTEN HERE NETCOP! YOU'RE GETTIN' OLD AND YOUR LITTLE WANNA BE WADE KELLER BULLSH*T HAS GOTTEN SO STALE! WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU DID A NEW COLOSSEUM VIDEO RANT?! I'M SICK OF READING ABOUT THE OLD ONES, DO THE NEW ONES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
ReplyDeleteAHHAAAAAAA.. Sorry... I did not mean to blow you're mind, that sh*t happens to me all of the time.
I've had a long history of catching racoons in a trap, walking to the big cliff in my back yard, tying a rope around the animal, and letting it fall... I love rubbing my body all over the bloody rocks, covered in it's remains. Luckily, I found a gal who loves dropping things to their death and then playing in the remains... We've been happily married for 4 years and have even mad love in the inside of a butchered cow.
I've been in and out of hospitals and on all sorts of meds. I've been caught throwing animals off the sides of cliffs when I was younger. These days, I do things like that on my property, to animals I catch, then engage in sexual acts on their carcasses with my wife. Sometimes, we'll take the intestines out and choke each other with them.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of sports deaths online. Aryton Senna for example. Deadspin did a piece on gruesome sports injuries and deaths on film when that college player snapped his tibia/fibula.
ReplyDeleteWe are through the looking glass, people.
ReplyDeleteI'll go as far as say no video of it is available online, but the video certainly exists.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can almost imagine Bret saying something like that as he seemed to take his character a bit too seriously -- That being said, Bret was double crossed no matter whose side you were on in the whole thing -- Even though I personally didn't really agree with his stance, I can definitely understand why he was/is so bitter about how things went down -- Throw in his brother's totally unnecessary death under McMahon's watch and you don't exactly have the recipe for rational and objective thinking -- I can't recall, did he ever really outright blame Vince? (getting a bit off point here, aren't we?)
ReplyDeleteWhen trolling goes wrong...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Scott's email. How long have you been hiding these gems from us!?
ReplyDeletei thought Natas was a rap group from Flint Michigan
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I was expecting for your response to the asskicking you're taking, or if I was even expecting one (thought you might have the decency to take your beating like a man) -- But this shit is what you came up with?? C'mon...
ReplyDeleteI've always considered Owen to be a gynormous dick who's legacy got whitewashed by the manner of his death.
ReplyDeleteShame. Instead of just letting it happen and either be a tasteless storyline or a rather interesting shoot, we're left to wonder.
ReplyDeleteYou gotta admit that's a pretty "out there" claim to make, bro.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Sabu killed Benoit.
I'm kinda' hoping you're about the only one who wonders this...
ReplyDeletePlease explain...
ReplyDeleteAustin legally changed his name to Steve Austin. Show that man some respect. He is a human being. He does not deserve this.
ReplyDeleteThis shit? Still less crazy than Austin killing Owen.
ReplyDeleteEasy, dude -- I was talking about Dr. Death Steve Williams -- With a name like that how could he not be at least implicated? -- Steve Austin not human being, he is like ice dagger (Weak shit, I know -- But it's all I got)...
ReplyDeleteThere was a badass skateboarder that a lot of people worshipped in the 80's named Natas Kaupas -- I'm not helping am I?
ReplyDeleteMy name is Stone Cold Steve Austin, I am the World Wrestling Federation champion and I do not deserve this!!
ReplyDeleteVicious pranks, neveraapologized for breaking Austin's neck, and constantly showed his disgust for THIS BUSINESS.
ReplyDeleteSorry, what promo are we discussing?
ReplyDeleteI was actually at a bar with a friend watching the PPV - it was our main monthly hangout. As we were Edmontonians we were incredibly familiar with Owen, he was one of our favorites and we *loved* the Blazer gimmick.
ReplyDeleteI can still remember calling my dad and some friends on a pay phone to let them know what happened, and I remember the silence in the bar when they announced him dying.
Nothing compared to the silence in the car going home though.
Officer: "Look, just between you and I, I think you'd make the greatest detective I've ever seen."
ReplyDeleteOh shut your mouth you thong-wearing fatty!
ReplyDeleteThen they'd be absolute muppets
ReplyDeleteAustin didnt apologise to Masahiro Chono for doing the same thing with the same move. Karma!
ReplyDeleteTears in the cop's eyes or it didn't happen.
ReplyDeletesomeone even posted some really good fake spoilers where owen was revealed and jr stormed off in disgust
ReplyDeletehey man nice shot
ReplyDeleteBong Backlund... I like
ReplyDeleteYeah course it exists, just not online like Ian 'paradox' Austin claims
ReplyDeleteWhat does that even mean?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea.
ReplyDeleteAlternate idea: post ALL OF HIS QUESTIONS.
its only because I don't believe you're the original emailer and I think you're just spoofing how ridiculous it is that I'm letting this stand. But don't go spreading it to the other posts, I'll have to delete it again. Unless you come up with a way of making it a handy gimmick, easily explicable.
ReplyDeleteVicious pranks?
ReplyDeletePlease, they were anything but.
I'm sorry, did I piss on your lawn? The Hell is your problem?
ReplyDeleteSure. That's it. So you believe that the logical action for me to take is to find it, and link to it to prove I'm right? That I should link to a video of a man DYING to win an internet argument?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, dude... just think about what you're suggesting.
That watching a video of a man dying is absolutely fucked up. And shouldn't be watched by anyone.
ReplyDeleteSo then the entire reason that you started this thread is for no reason other than to repeatedly state that you would never watch the footage.
ReplyDeleteThat's great, and I'm sure there are a lot of people that are SUPER impressed with that, because it's just so darn awesome, and you're such a super guy, but you could feel just as good about yourself by pointedly not watching other footage that actually exists.
I'm sorry, did I piss on your lawn? The Hell is your problem?
ReplyDeleteWorst troll ever. I prefer Elvy's brand of mischief to Faux Norman Bates.
ReplyDeleteNo problem at all man. I think that you're a jam up guy, an example to others!
ReplyDeleteSabotaging matches doesn't seem like a kind thing.
ReplyDeleteFrom the earllllllllly days of TNA, back when they had early PPVs, Roddy Piper made a "surprise" appearance and did a shoot on Vince Russo, and one of his accusations was that he "wrote my cousin Owen's death."
ReplyDeleteWell alright then, can't tell how serious you're being but please don't sue when I steal your persona for a killer in my horror movie. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteDude, shut up. The video doesn't exist online, so you can't find it even if you tried. How can you tell me it exists if you haven't even seen it?
ReplyDeleteDefine "sabotaging matches"?
ReplyDelete(I really hope you aren't referring to the neck accident)
Let's not forget how INSANELY over Austin was before the broken neck. It might have led to the Austin/Vince feud, yes, but he was going to the moon either way. Plus Russo was already starting crash TV BEFORE the Austin injury so the run-ins and long promos would have been happening either way.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there a fan video with an obscured view? I think you can see the zipline failure but a standing fan blocks most of the fall?
ReplyDeleteFuck yeah. Not a lot of other pro skate fans on the blog.
ReplyDeleteIs there a source for this?
ReplyDeleteOkay - tell you what: since you guys are sure it doesn't exist, since if it did you're all such badasses you'd watch it, why don't you search for it and post your findings.
ReplyDeleteBECAUSE IT DOESNT EXIST YOU FUCKING IDIOT
ReplyDeleteJeez, and I thought I had anger issues...
ReplyDeleteYou're an idiot.
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes he did. Keep telling people that.
ReplyDeleteLoved me some Natas -- I grew up watching the Bones Brigade videos and hating on Christian Hosoi (not for any good reason mind you, I was just mindlessly following with what other skaters said about him)...
ReplyDelete
