Never seen this one before. It's Savage/Warrior, Title vs. Title, from the Boston Garden in February 1989, about 1 week after Savage turned on Hogan. Fun match and the crowd, as you can imagine, is nuclear. Just the heat for Savage's entrance is worth clicking for.

We have indeed discussed this one before, but heel Savage was the greatest thing ever so I'm always happy to pimp it again. Macho Man should have been champ until he died.
I am of the mind that they should have run Hogan-Savage II at 'SummerSlam' 1989, maybe in a cage. Randy can regain the belt there, with Zeus costing Hulk the title. Then you can do Team Savage/Zeus vs. Team Hogan at Survivor Series. Hogan-Zeus can be a co-main for Wrestlemania VI, with Savage losing the belt to Warrior instead. Then you can slow-burn toward Warrior defending against Hogan at Wrestlemania VII. Savage was just too awesome NOT to continue that run on top. Hulk could still have his ridiculous Zeus feud without the belt and I think Warrior taking the belt from a super-hot heel may have boosted his status as top face, instead of dividing the camp between Warriors and Hulkamaniacs right away.
ReplyDeleteThe MSG match was discussed, I had no idea this existed.
ReplyDeleteGreat matchup. Fun. Whatever it was, Warrior had "it" and the fans bought into whatever he was doing.
