As I'm sure Dixie Carter would attest to, wrestling is not the best business to get into right now. What they should do is buy the rights to NJPW and dub over with Mauro Ranallo or the ROH announce crew. Or just buy ROH from Sinclair, since their business model is selling DVDs anyway.
Since we're talkin about Netflix, I'd just like To say that Orange is the New Black was amazing and you should watch it if you haven't already.... If for no other reason than to see Laura Prepon topless.
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't Vince make a deal to show old Raw/SM/Nitro/Thunder/etc stuff on Netflix?
ReplyDeleteThat NJPW Idea would be AWESOME! ROH on Netflix would be interesting and more conductive to their booking style then syndicated TV. Could Netflix potentially buy TNA should it go belly up?
ReplyDeleteDon West calling NJPW matches = My money
ReplyDeleteBecause he wants them to be exclusive to the WWE network :P
ReplyDeleteMY GOD THAT WAS A GERMAN SUPLEX!
ReplyDeleteWOW, TORNADO KICK OFF THE TOP ROPE INTO THE CROWD!!!
TEXAS LARIAT, TEXAS LARIAT, HE HIT HIM WITH THE TEXAS LARIAT, HE'S NOT GETTING UP FROM THAT TENAY!!!!
(Yes, in my mind, Don West will always call his broadcast colleague Tenay)
well, the past however many are on Huluplus, though that is the abbreviated version of raw (which I tend to prefer anyhow, honestly.)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I still just want to click on the New Releases button on Netflix and not see movies that were added two years ago. And I wouldn't turn down some new wrestling content, Netflix seems to know what it's doing with its original digital content.
ReplyDeleteI say dub it over with the Vic and Kenny from MXC and its a liscence to print money.
ReplyDeleteThey should just do one based on the Internet Championship, but make the wrestlers old. Such gimmicks could include:
ReplyDeletemIRC Kid - defeats foes by slapping them a bit with a large trout
Mr. WordPerfect
The Big DOS Man
The Floppy Tonk Man
Shit, really??
ReplyDeleteMy wife's been watching this--maybe I should hang out by the TV more often...
I just finished it yesterday. Very good show and I can't wait for the next 'season'.
ReplyDeleteWrestling can absolutely make money; you just have to stay away from money pits like Hulk Hogan. Just have the show LIVE! from Las Vegas (sort of like the Impact Zone but not shitty) a la AWA on ESPN. Free venue, anyway.
ReplyDeleteAn endorsement of the ROH commentary crew? By a human being? Who has heard them???
ReplyDeleteYeah...you have to wonder how TNA would be doing right now without Hogan, Sting, and the other old guys. They have some legit talent that they could have continued to turn into legit main eventers (e.g. Rood, AA). Too bad they bought what Hogan was selling.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I hear, she keeps her arms and hair in the way, so not much of a selling point there.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather they invest in Dragon Gate USA. It's far better than ROH, for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteHe hasn't discovered Netflix yet - so, going by the usual pattern, he has to discover it, not see the point of it, begrudgingly accept it, then create his own failed version of it.
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago? That's a blessing. Obviously you've never experienced the ghetto of Netflix Canada. Hunger Games is about the only big movie to come out on there in forever. However, Orange Is The New Black is more than enough to justify the $8 this month for me.
ReplyDeleteSeconded. We're up to episode 11 and it's like crack. It veers a bit into Oz-like melodrama at times, but it's still one of the best shows I've seen in many years.
ReplyDeleteHe's going to be pissed when he sees all of those WWE Documentaries.
ReplyDeleteI think North America is big enough to have 2 big wrestling companies, it's just that TNA has a horrible business model and maybe Dixie should have got involved in a company that she was at least knowledgeable about.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to Mexico in January to visit family, I logged on to NetFlix and it was like a whole different world. They had Community available, along with a whole bunch of other shows that weren't options here in the US. I was so disappointed when I got back, I got a trial membership to Hulu Plus so I could keep watching Community.
ReplyDeleteand tie it in with hollywood: randy the RAM (yeah not old, I know)
ReplyDeletegimme an "AOL yeah!"
'He hasn't discovered Netflix yet'
ReplyDeletehe's still wrapping his head around the fact that his video coliseum home video cassettes are available in both vhs and beta
'If for no other reason than to see Laura Prepon topless.'
ReplyDeleteDEM PINCIATTIS
Ugh, I've seen DGUSA twice, and both shows just had every negative stereotype about ROH multiplied by 1000
ReplyDeleteI've seen them live twice and on DVD several times, and I love the promotion. It has a sense of fun that ROH often lacks, and the variety of styles at our shows was wonderful -- from the hard-hitting Japanese style to spot-tastic lucha stuff to great comedy wrestling.
ReplyDeleteCommunity is totes on Netflix up here too .
ReplyDeleteThat's so weird.
ReplyDeleteThere is plenty of meat on the bone for two major American promotions, especially given the huge amount of disenfranchised fans that WWE is not addressing.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it is a tough industry to break into. Huge barriers to entry. You basically have to have national TV to even matter and that's easier said than done.
What I think could be the big opportunity is the Internet. I think that's the next frontier the same way cable TV was in the 80's.
It is doable though. The problem is that every challenger to Vince has been totally inept in one are a or another. WWE is not invincible. They have the same complacent attitude that has sunk many a major corporation.
I need to give it a shot. I HATE what ROH has turned into.
ReplyDeleteDon West was awesome towards the end and a hell of a lot better than Taz.
ReplyDeleteGabe Sapolsky, who booked ROH in its best years (beginning through 2009), is the lead booker of DGUSA.
ReplyDeleteDon't know who would downvote this, but he's right. Dixie is the biggest problem with TNA. She knows nothing about the industry and has allowed herself to be suckered by the biggest cons in the biz (first Russo and Nash, now Hogan and Bischoff).
