Nevertime poster - only a lurker.
Do you envision a scene down the road during one of the D Bryan humiliation skits where HBK comes out to defend his prized pupil and confronts HHH and Vince. Shawn cuts a promo on them and lays the foundation for one of them crossing over to Daniel's side. If some sort of McMahon fued is working its way to WrestleMania, then they can't all be on the same side as they are now . . something has to give.
What sayeth you?
The clear storyline path seems to be power mad HHH deciding that the Facgime doesn't need old man Vince any longer. HBK would fit as a foil for old frenemy HHH and as a representative of the previous era that HHH is trying to kill off, in that hypothetical storyline, although I don't think Shawn wants to come back. What might work is Vince choosing Undertaker as his avatar so that HHH's guy has to end the streak in order to get ultimate control of the company.
"What might work is Vince choosing Undertaker as his avatar so that HHH's guy has to end the streak in order to get ultimate control of the company. "
ReplyDeleteBy doing this, doesn't that lead to Cena being the one that faces Taker at WM? Now if CENA sided with HHH in this scenario it would be (unlikely but) interesting.
Regardless of which direction they go, what's amazing is how they have me heavily interested not only in the fall months of Raw, but in a McMahon/HHH-dominated storyline. Masked Man made a great point in his most recent article on Grantland (it's going to be hard for me to not echo things he says in his columns, because he usually writes similar things to what I'm thinking) about how this new HHH/McMahon corporate heel storyline has turned meta fans/smarks back into uber-marks. I love it.
ReplyDeleteVery close, but there's a fine line between marking for "boy, I can't wait for the Corporation to get theirs" and "boy, I don't think they'll ever get theirs"
ReplyDeleteThe problem with this is that there isn't anyone on the roster that would make sense that makes a compelling match. Cena teaming with HHH is absurd, unless HHH, McMahon and Undertaker all turn.
ReplyDeleteOrton doesn't make sense because I would assume he'd be defending the belt (yes, I think it will go all the way to Mania, at least it should).
Punk... please.
Maybe you can plug Sheamus into that spot and have it not be absurd, but that could be it. But really, is anyone clamoring for 'Taker-Sheamus?
Make No Mistake about it, they WILL get theirs, the Heels ALWAYS get whats coming to them in WWE
ReplyDeleteTrue, I just hope theirs is DB, hand raised, belt in hand. Not some weird Hell in a Cell wargames hybrid with HHH vs XPac
ReplyDeleteHow about [Paul Heyman voice] BROCK LESNAR!!! [/Paul Heyman voice]
ReplyDeleteWell, it makes about as much sense as any of the other options...
ReplyDeleteAlthough, there's a case to be made that Heyman and Lesnar would be open to being thugs for hire to the highest bidder. If they go that route, it makes more sense. They won't because fuck you, that's why, but what are you gonna do?
Orton, HHH, & Shield vs Austin, Rock, Foley, Taker & Kane (Team Vince). War fucking Games.
ReplyDeleteI don't see that happening but I could see hbk coming out on a raw to stick up for Bryan and taking a grade A beat down from Orton/hhh/shield to get even more heat on the angle. And then bryan can get revenge for Shawn too.
ReplyDeleteImplying that HHH will get ultimate control of the company if he can end the Streak is getting into TNA territory with the random power dynamics, in which a heel group assumes that they can take over the company if they can just get the world title (because "the title = the power!").
ReplyDeleteThen again, the Streak is as important, if not several shades more so, than the WWE title these days.
Just ask Booker T!
ReplyDeleteI just think they're stupid if they are still angling for Vince Vs HHH in any form. The money match is for HHH to get beat by Bryan.
ReplyDeleteSo in a sense if this becomes HHH v. Vince, it becomes a "double turn" or something? And yet Vince agrees with "burial" of Bryan? My head hurts.
ReplyDeleteOh God yes.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, if the story came to it, could Vince still "go"? I mean, he's no great wrestler, but I'm still of the opinion that a Vince garbage match is great fun if he's working with the right guy. A Vince/HHH handicap match with Bryan would be lots of fun if booked right.
I think the thought is Vince would represent someone, but Bryan is the LAST person Vince should get behind. An Attitude Era guy like Shawn or Taker makes a lot more sense. HHH betrays Vince so he goes to someone who has shown him loyalty.
ReplyDeleteThis discussion so far is a snapshot of why this angle has the potential to go wrong in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteRight now, Bryan is the hot ticket, and the money is in, someday, seeing him destroy Randy Orton. Maybe, on the right day, he could destroy HHH too and score a victory for the PG/Indy generation over the Attitude generation.
All the attention in this thread is in how the HHH/Vince feud will play out. HBK! Austin, Rock and Foley! Garbage matches! Vince and HHH having people represent them!
Fuck all that. All the crazy shit happening outside the ring should be the exclamation point to two people wanting to kill each other (Rock/HHH, Backlash 2000), not the focal point (McMahons/McMahons, Wrestlemania 2000).
That's the exact line they want you to be on.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I'm so f'n sick of people fighting for control of the company, being the face of the company, etc. Whatever happened to wanting to beat the shit out of the other guy b/c you don't like him or b/c you want to be the champ?
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeleteAnd your post reminded me, how many times have people, mostly McMahons, kayfabe lost their share of power, only to return months down the line as some kind of executive again?
How about this:
ReplyDeleteVince chooses Undertaker to fight on his behalf. Triple H, goads Cena to challenge; "you'll be the greatest of all time", "you'll be the only guy who could do it", "what, you're not good enough?" etc. Cena responds, "I'll do it, but I'm not doing it for you. I'm doing it for myself and the WWE Universe."
Cena vs. Taker becomes a feud unto itself; one of respect, but with intense competitiveness.
Then comes WrestleMania (and hopefully a No DQ match). Undertaker tombstones Cena, but Triple H runs in and wallops him with a chair or pedigrees him. Cena pins, seemingly unsure that he hasn't had help. 2-count only. Cena, dazed, looks at Trips like "the fuck? Don't want your help!" and as he turns back he's locked in the Hell's Gates. Triple H breaks it up. Taker gets a second wind and starts kicking Triple H's ass, but walks into an AA by Cena who is still seemingly somewhat out and not completely aware of Triple H's involvement. It only gets two, and Triple H goes for Sweet Lady Sledge.
Vince runs down with a babyface (Rock? Bryan? Punk? Shawn? Fucking Austin!?) to run off Triple H. The face runs Triple H out through the crowd or the stage. Vince grabs a chair and goes to wallop Cena (thus turning heel to massive face pops) but Undertaker low blows Vince, because HE DOESN'T WANT TO WIN THIS WAY. Chokeslam for Vince, but Undertaker turns around and eats another AA but it only gets a two-count. Cena's frustrated and goes for the STFU. Undertaker either keeps reversing/getting out of it or manages to drag himself to the ropes. After three failed attempts, Cena, in the immortal words of Scott Keith, snaps and turns Undertaker into a quivering mass of jell-o with at least 20 chair shots.
He finally gets the 3 and Cena's done it. Triple H returns to the ring, and Cena stares him down with some sort of recognition or acknowledgement; that yeah, if you want immortality, you HAVE TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES. They shake hands or embrace, and Triple H raises his arm in HEEL VICTORY.
Fin.
..that's just overbooked enough to work!
