HHH/Bryan = McMahon/Austin

I'm not the only person thinking that they've finally found the right players to recreate the Austin/McMahon feud, am I?

Bryan is a self-made star in the midst of a transcendent rise that the WWE doesn't want as the face of the company. And HHH is the perfect replacement for Vince, since he represents not only "evil management" but also was the standard bearer of everything the WWE wanting in a champion.

There's even a smart angle to it, since we are all aware of Trips history of holding people down so his character makes sense. And Bryan is almost a perfect underdog - a lifelong indy guy and Internet darling.

So I say let HHH screw Bryan over nonstop and bully everyone and make them all bow down to him...as long as he puts Bryan over clean every time they match up.  If he learns that lesson from Vince, they could have real magic on their hands.

T
hat is the biggest difference between Vince and HHH, isn't it?  HHH always has to be STRONG GUY HHH trading bombs with the biggest stars in the business, even when "retired" and with a corporate haircut.  Vince is all about going out there and taking gigantic beatings for his art.  Hopefully HHH learns that lesson quickly.

Comments

  1. I like and respect both Triple H and D-Bry and they can try their damndest to make this work but they will never touch the ratings that McMahon / Austin storyline had.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Is it possible that the way this story evolves is that at some point, Orton "lets down" the McMahons, Triple H/Shield give him the beat down, Orton turns face again, Triple H takes the title, and it's Daniel Bryan-Triple H at WrestleMania?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I think that's the backup in case Orton legit "lets them down" and fails another drug test or otherwise does something idiotic.

    ReplyDelete
  4. And no show on TV today is going to touch the ratings of 1960s hits. Doesn't really matter as long as they're good.

    ReplyDelete
  5. HHH also isn't willing to embarrass himself like Vince was (or hasn't shown a willingness at least). I mean, does anyone see HHH doing the hospital bed scene or pretending(?) to piss himself when Austin had a toy gun to his head? Yeah...not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Eh, I'd be shocked to see Orton turn face again, at least for a few years.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Couldn't agree more with your assessment Scott regarding HHH. I have no faith this feud will do Bryan any favors in the long run (look back at Booker T, RVD, Punk, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'd love to see Triple H recreate the insane cage to table bump Vince took for Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think at some point Orton gets bounced because HHH stressed that Orton was just holding "his" title, so there's certainly something to that idea.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Couldn't agree with Scott more.

    ReplyDelete
  11. One thing I respect about Vince is that he's always been willing to look just as stupid as he makes his wrestlers look.

Then again, I'm guessing hundreds of millions of dollars can soothe a damaged ego...

    ReplyDelete
  12. If hhh gets involved in this feud as far as working a match with Bryan that's going to be a disaster. He's so going to book himself to go over and then say with a straight face that it actually makes bryan look stronger. And then half this blog will rush to hhh's defense for some bizzare reason. He wouldn't put over sheamus or punk when he was basically retired and that wasn't that long ago. He's fucking poison to any other face trying to get over.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I dont think Vince ever got enough credit for showing ass and looking like a complete fool when the time was right. Can you picture HHH with "piss" running down his leg during the bang 3:16 skit?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can't remember hhh ever really showing ass or getting a true comeuppance. When he does job its usually shit like, go over rock/Brock at wrestlemania, then do a quiet job at an April ppv.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He jobbed three PPVs in a row to Batista.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Charismatic e-Negro Jef VinsonAugust 30, 2013 at 11:03 AM

HHH always throws up working with Henry Godwin in Hogpen matches.

    ReplyDelete
  17. And then he took the summer off and by the time he came back he was the top heel on Raw, still, because Batista wasn't on the show anymore. I like Triple H, and he made Batista, but things do tend to work out well for Triple H in the long run.

    ReplyDelete
  18. ... which was 20 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  19. And he was going to go over cena at wm23 until he got hurt.
Wow hhh put one guy over in his entire career... who cares

    ReplyDelete
  20. Exactly. He jobs to batista, comes back as the top guy and gets the main event against cena, and the only reason we didn't get a rematch the next year where hhh got his win back from cena is because hhh got hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Let's just wait and see how the Punk thing plays out.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was simply answering your assertion that he never received comeuppance.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That wouldn't make any sense. Vince showed a lot of "ass" because he wasn't a wrestler at anytime in his life. Triple H being that level of afraid would be stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hated that line about "his title." Only b/c you know it's a shoot comment that's not supposed to be a shoot. The douche really does think the only legitimate title left in North American wrestling really does belong to him. Even though he probably doesn't even crack the top 10 of all time best WWE champs.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hhh jobs to Benoit at wmxx. By June Benoit is defending the belt on the mid card, hhh is working a main event vs shawn

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sigh. And HHH defenders are already starting to pop up in this thread. They must all be too young to remember 2003 or something.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Than don't be a heel...oh yeah he can't get over as a face

    ReplyDelete
  28. Unbelievably not his worst case of sucking heat. At least HBK and HHH were involved in that feud. The Summer of Punk somehow becoming Nash vs. HHH with a text message stip was just beyond outlandish.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My head hurts talking to you guys sometimes. You hate when your favorites act like bitches as a heel, but when its a guy you hate then oh he needs to act like a heel.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The complaint isn't solely that HHH isn't willing to look like a fool. It's that he's probably going to suck away Bryan's heat, not do a job, and also not look like a fool. Granted, that hasn't happened yet so we may all be eating crow in 6 months, but his track record is not good.

    ReplyDelete
  31. No! 17 years ago! sheesh

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hunter showed his ass constantly is 2003. His #1 move was running away.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not a huge HHH fan or anything. He needlessly got a win over Punk, and a win over Brock. I'm just saying comparing how he should act as an authority figure and how Vince acted doesn't make much sense to me. It's comparing apples and oranges.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If you work as a heel you have to be ridiculed and look stupid... especially in the wwe. The only reason hhh works heel (IMO) is because he isn't over as a face. So hes forced to be a heel by default but won't use it get others over. And fwiw I was a huge supporter of punks heel turn work so I don't want to every heel I like be a dominant monster.

    ReplyDelete
  35. His #1 move was being on screen for 105 of Raw's 130 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No its apples to apples. They are both heel on air authority figures.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If you are looking at it through kayfabe I don't see how. One you can't legitimately buy as any sort of physical threat, the other is a 13 time World champion.

    ReplyDelete
  38. He also got his washed up friend heat at the expense of the hottest new act in years.

    ReplyDelete
  39. At some point the authority figure should get his ass handed to him. I think the argument is that HHH will refuse to take a true beating like Vince was willing to do.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's generally not considered a wrestling (whata)maneuver.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'd like to see your list.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't know, I think a fair case can be made he helped "make" Cena too since he jobbed to him twice and didn't get his win back until years later on a ppv no one remembers.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You know, I think I agree with your take, it would be silly for HHH to be like Vince in the Austin/McMahon. Sure Vince was a big dude, but he was a 60 year old guy who hadn't wrestled and was talking more than his actions would back up eventually. That's what makes this kind of interesting to see how Daniel Bryan gets his comeuppance. Since HHH is the cerebral assassin, I think DB will have to outsmart HHH for the most part.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'll take this time to quote someone I respect:

    "HHH is GOD."

    That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  45. All I want to say is is that Daniel Bryan is my personal saviour.

    ReplyDelete
  46. In chronological order these 9 absolutely beat him, IMO:

    Sammartino
    Hogan
    Savage
    Undertaker
    Flair
    HBK
    Austin
    Rock
    Cena

Then you can start splitting hairs over the 10th spot between several guys (including HHH) depending on what criterion you're using to evaluate.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not a fan, but you could swap out Flair (WWE Flair, not NWA/WCW Flair) and Taker for HHH on that list.

    ReplyDelete
  48. So he does crack the top ten.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It depends on who's evaluating. Personally, I wouldn't put him there. But I recognize that many people would. My point is that he calls himself the "king of kings" and says it's "his title" yet he's clearly not in the very upper echelon of all time champs (e.g. Hogan, Austin, Sammartino). I just find it aggravating. And that of course assumes the "his title" thing was a disguised shoot comment. If it wasn't then this is a pointless convo.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh, you absolutely could. My point is that HHH is not in the very upper echelon and you could easily knock him out of the top 10 depending on what you value more highly from a wrestler. There's a disconnect between his view of his place in history and the reality.

    ReplyDelete
  51. HHH is playing the bully that we all think he is. In the end Bryan needs to beat the bully 1,2,3 without interference.
    Just like LaRussa beat Lawrence.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Was anybody else annoyed that DBry was pinned via pedigree? Would it have killed them to have kick out and then lose to an RKO 30 seconds later to add just a tiny bit of hope and then snatch it away?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Huh, I was about to rebut your point and then realized most of my examples were from 2002.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Did anyone ever go over on Rock or Austin? Really humiliate them like they did Vince?

    ReplyDelete
  55. To be devil's advocate, from a storyline narrative standpoint, it made sense for HHH to go over Brock when he did.
Brock broke HHHs arm, beat up his friends, terrorized his family. And HHH came back from injury to get his rightful revenge match and victory.
Now almost ANYONE would have been better in the HHH role, but since HHH was there it made sense for him to go over when he did.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm normally a huge HHH basher but I have LOVED his work since turning heel. All the things that annoyed me about face HHH are what make me love heel HHH. The condescending Disney thing on Monday? That was some first-class heeling.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Based on the story, it did make sense. I just don't think the interest was there to do Brock/Triple H more than once. It was a waste of Brock in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh I absolutely agree with that.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I, personally, would put Bret Hart at #10.

    ReplyDelete
  60. They were faces for a lot more of their time on top than hhh. And rock jobbed to everyone. He put guys over left and right. And BTW rock got over huge by having big scary heel Ron Simmons stand in the ring like a fool while he gave him a cardboard cut out Rock. Heels are supposed to look bad a lot. Hhh never ever does. Even when he was a face he wouldn't let Jericho "steal" Stephanie because his character was too smart. Then he got shown up by rock and way washed up hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  61. YankeesHoganTripleHFanAugust 30, 2013 at 12:12 PM

Actually Daniel-San won despite outside interference. What do you think Bobby taking out his leg was all about?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Can you imagine how over Orton would have gotten if hhh just would have jobbed to him at wm25

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah that was such typical hhh shit.

    ReplyDelete
  64. My point was Vince always showed ass to GET HIS OPPONENT OVER. I was using the band 316 as an example, go with Vince in a wheelcgair getting pushed by the stooges or Vince getting outsmarted by Linda to bring back Austin. These are all scenarios I cant picture HHH in.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah you're right down voters Kevin Nash really needed to leech punks heat like that

    ReplyDelete
  66. There are two people downvoting almost every negative HHH statement. I'm guessing it's dougie and HHH himself.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Basically you can group the posters here into camps. Some of us like exciting innovative matches with the freshest new talent and creative promos and the rest just want to pop loud for motorhead buy a DX shirt and cheer for the guy who books himself to win matches.

    ReplyDelete
  68. How two posters could be in favor of summer of punk turning into a horrible Nash vs hhh match I'll never know but it speaks to the tastes of typical hhh apologists. Kevin Nash>2011 cm punk...gotcha.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm not defending the reign of terror. My biggest bone to pick with HHH was that he was always the coolest, smartest, toughest, awesomest guy in the room. But once Rock and Austin were top guys no one really humiliated them. Rock might lose a match (and he was always selfless about jobbing) but did he EVER show ass on the mic? The difference between HHH and Rock/Austin is that HHH was around after 2003.

    ReplyDelete
  70. And his #2 move was burying his opponents in 25 minute, unopposed, promos and then booking himself to win.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm more annoyed he didn't sell it properly. Pedigreed by the finest sports entertainer in history and back on air for Raw? Not at all realistic

    ReplyDelete
  72. Its a fair point. The only counter I have is that rock worked for a lot of that time where as hhh was almost exclusively a heel outside of maybe 8 months.

    ReplyDelete
  73. What's frustrating about HHH, and from what I've heard of him in interviews (check his recent with David Shoemaker) he's a good dude in real life is that he doesn't get that the face has to win in the end. It doesn't even have to be a title! Win over and over, but just take the one fired-up beatdown and there'd be no problem! What's sad is most fans couldn't care less about win-loss records.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I personally am boycotting Raw (not that I'm an every-weeker) because HHH/the McMahons are in the main storyline, and Bryan will end up jobbing to HHH. I remember the treatment of Booker T and RVD, and how HHH beat Goldberg in the end after "borrowing" the world title to him for a couple of months.

    ReplyDelete
  75. No its not. If you want someone to get over as an anti authority hero (the role Bryan is currently in), then he HAS to eventually GET OVER THE ESTABLISHED AUTHORITY. HHH has nothing in his resume that shows he will do this. See Punk 2011 as mist recent example.

Im not an anti-HHH guy, in fact I find myself defending him alot around here. Your wrong though on this, maybe HHH proves us all wrong but his track record suggests otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I wish HHH's character had evolved in the past decade. He was in the prime of most wrestlers' career (mid 30s-40s) and he decided to call himself the Game, spit water and call it a day. He didn't know how to get heat other than by winning.

    ReplyDelete
  77. He shouldn't have been afraid of a lunatic pulling a firearm on him?

    ReplyDelete
  78. This is spot on and IMO that 10 spot goes to Andre or backlund. Hhh is probably 13th or 14th at best. Ace of spades...no way. 9 of hearts, maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  79. If HHH isn't gonna lie down for D-Bry, just bring back Johnny Ace to do it. You'll get the same match quality with more ass-showing.

    ReplyDelete
  80. #3 being if he hit you with the Pedigree, you play dead.

...To the point where I would believe it if someone said they were told that if HHH died in the ring, you better pull his carcass over you and eat the pin.

    ReplyDelete
  81. No, Vince wasn't able to defend himself. Triple H can.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Nothing means never. He made Batista.

    ReplyDelete
  83. What time period? I loathe that I'm defending HHH, but I don't think he's unique in this.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I only didn't include Andre b/c his reign was so short and not actually representative of his heyday. I don't know enough about Backlund to make a fair assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  85. But it wasn't during the match. And it wasn't a "Miyagi distracts Johnny while Daniel rolls him up for a fluke win" interference

    ReplyDelete
  86. He gets it, just as long as he's the face at the time

    ReplyDelete
  87. Like post DX to DX reunion. He has his 2001 face run cut short by injury (along with most of his in ring talent IMO) and did that awful Jericho feud. That was probably 8 months or so as a face.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Since then he's refused to make Orton (wm 25) sheamus, and punk, and booked himself over lesnar at mania

    ReplyDelete
  89. Actually, I'm going to use one of my biggest markout moments, when Punk voiced my feelings on the Rock: "You could be Santa Claus and have his schedule, one day a year. I'd
still kick your ass. I don't care how many movies you film every year. I
know how hard that schedule probably is, but every time you come back,
whenever you decide to grace us with your presence, I'm gonna kick your
ass. Because this isn't candy land. I'm like nobody you've ever faced
before. You can make fun of the color of my t-shirt and you can talk
about pie and you can sing songs and you can rhyme, and you can do your
tired, lame-ass schtick. I just want you to know that come Royal Rumble,
and you have about three weeks to realize this, I'm gonna kick your ass
'cause I'm the best in the world. I'm the best thing going today. I'm
the best guy you've ever stepped foot in the ring with. And you need to
understand, congratulations, Rock, you just graduated from the kiddie
table, but you just bit off more than you can chew. You're playing
little league with your little insults and your rhymes and your
"millions and millions" and your "finallys". And I'm in the big leagues
and I'm swinging for the fence. You need to understand that your little
jabs and your insults, it's all kiddie games. You can't leave a mark on
the Champ's face. Come Royal Rumble, understand, when you step in the
ring, your arms are just too short to box with God."

    ReplyDelete
  90. He did the same with Sheamus actually

    ReplyDelete
  91. That's actually a perfect example of rock showing tons of ass on the mic. Hhh will never stand thereand get buried like that toget another guy over

    ReplyDelete
  92. Of course, it didn't end there: You may think that the Rock is boxing with God. But the Rock knows for a
fact you are going one-on-one with the Great One. Don't you think...
don't you think for one single, solitary second that the Rock doesn't
know how bad you are, how dangerous you are, how tough you are. The Rock
knows that. 414 days. The Rock knows the last time we were in the
middle of this ring you hit the Rock with a GTS and you knocked him out
cold. Cold as a block of ice. The Rock didn't forget it. You hurt the
Rock. You embarrassed the Rock. He said it before, he'll say it again.
    In 20 days, time's up.

But here's the thing. This is what the Rock wants you to do— from now
until then. The Rock wants you to go home and think about the next 20
days. As a matter of fact, the Rock wants you to go home and look in the
mirror. As a matter of fact, the Rock wants you to go home, look in the
mirror and strip naked. That's what the Rock wants you to do. Go ahead
and look at yourself. Don't concentrate on your Cookie Puss. Turn around
and look at your backside. Turn around, look at your backside and let's
try and find a small space on this body that's not covered in ugly
tattoos because the Rock wants you to get two more tattoos. Some more
tattoos. Here's the thing. Go ahead, on your left butt cheek the Rock
wants you to get a tattoo of a big, fat M&M. And then add a
Snickers, a Milky Way, a Mounds. You can't have an Almond Joy because
unlike you, Almond Joys actually have nuts. And then... and then on your
right butt cheek, this is what the Rock wants you to do. The Rock wants
you to get a tattoo of the Rock's size 15 shoe, so you will have a
lifetime reminder of how badly the Rock is gonna kick your candy ass at
    Royal Rumble.

Yeah, Orton had a lot of momentum going into that and a big win over Triple H really establishes him as a top heel. Of course he lost in the big match but then won the title a month later in a six man match nobody cared about - I guess HHH counts that as putting him over strong.

    ReplyDelete
  94. That was an all time great segment. Hhh would have had punk list off all the guys hhh has pinned and then pedigreed him

    ReplyDelete
  95. YankeesHoganTripleHFanAugust 30, 2013 at 1:05 PM

In that case Daniel-San won the second Karate kid movie with outside interference, what with Miyagi starting the hand drum barrage and all.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Scream09_HartKillerAugust 30, 2013 at 1:07 PM

The Hurricane got the best of Rock in many of their backstage segments, he was openly terrified of Steve Austin, ran away from Hulk Hogan. Austin had his wife smash him in the head with a cookie sheet for not liking her cookies, got the milk-truck spray down, ran away from Undertaker. Those guys were willing to show weakness.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Was he terrified of Austin AFTER he made the main event?

And some of it is verbally.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Backlund yes, Andre know... I've had bowel movements longer than his title reign.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Scream09_HartKillerAugust 30, 2013 at 1:12 PM

He was running scared of him and trying to have him barred from the building leading up to WM19. Rock would give the "oh shit, this is a fight I don't want to happen" reaction to Austin and Goldberg.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I had forgotten about that. You're right. I'm a huge Austin fan (and a fan of Rock pre-2004 hiatus when he didn't mail it in every appearence) but my abiding memories of them were just dominating people on the mic (and largely in the ring as well).

HHH has cemented as many people as top-level guys as the Rock (Batista for HHH, Lesnar for Rock) and more than Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  101. One of which was "You will lose if I pedigree you!" and HHH pedigreed him and got a 47 count... but it was during a ref bump... so he basically got proven right.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I still remember the great bit on the "McMahon" DVD where everyone mocks Vince as one of the absolute worst guys to be in a ring with with HH saying "He thinks he's Lou Thesz but he has no idea what he's doing."

    ReplyDelete
  103. Or how about Orton vs hhh

    ReplyDelete
  104. Rock and Foley were the guys jobbing to Austin to get him over as #1

    ReplyDelete
  105. Austin was #1 by that point. Bret Hart made Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  106. The Love-Matic Grampa!August 30, 2013 at 1:36 PM

It's not even necessarily about "beatings", it's more about HHH understanding the role he's supposed to play in this feud. While I'm sure he has the best of intentions in this case, past history has shown that he only really knows how to get over one person: HHH.

Remember when Punk was throwing "pipebombs" everywhere and then looked like a tool when he finally came face-to-face with HHH? Because HHH was allowed to tell the "truth", while Punk was hamstrung by the fact that he wasn't allowed to retort with the same (at least not without breaking kayfabe). And then HHH beat him clean anyway. Didn't kill Punk off or anything because he was bulletproof after beating Cena twice, but it certainly did him no favors.

And let's not forget: all those "You Can't Wrestle" chants directed at Cena? Well, guess where that started...

    ReplyDelete
  107. You just made so many great points. I just want to add, look at the promo punk cut on the rock, thats a guy who showed his ass. Meanwhile in hhh feud punk (must of) had his hands tied because he was forced to show ass for triple h and Nash. So stupid

    ReplyDelete
  108. That's true. But they were laying down for Austin to keep him strong. Hhh definitely hasn't done that for anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  109. And the Rock wasn't actually the people's champion when he first called himself that. He was a heel riling up the crowd, just like how Trips is a heel riling up the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  110. No, but he does have to get outsmarted and look like a fool at certain times..something hes never been wiling to do during his run at the top. Laying down to Batista 3 straight times in completely different then being willing to look like a fool.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Where did they start exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yeah HHH is always coming across as either the strongest, funniest, coolest guy no matter what skit he's in or who he's in the ring with. I'm liking him as a heel so hopefully he'll allow himself to get some comeuppance in this role

    ReplyDelete
  113. Triple H BURIED Cena (and pretty much every single person Cena beat) when he kept saying "Cena wasn't a very good wrestler, and this match would be the easiest title win of my life".

    Then those stupid chants started.

    ReplyDelete
  114. That makes Orton's win look that much more sleazy. He didn't hit a single offensive move to win the title.

Shit, even Edge hit two spears on Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Rock showed huge ass on the mix after Foley ripped him a new one when he thought he tossed his book in the trash. Also, his first day as commissioner, he got a "IT DOESNT MATTER!" on the Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Except Batista and HBK when he came back

    ReplyDelete
  117. Difference is that Rock knew that. HHH seems to legit think he's the best ever.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yeah, that's the counterpoint. I can see both sides.

    ReplyDelete
  119. If you're going to have Shawn Michaels on a list, you might as well have Bret Hart.

    Top ten complete.

    ReplyDelete
  120. If you have Shawn on there, why not Bret?

    ReplyDelete
  121. But Cena won. So all that stuff HHH the character said is negated.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Because Shawn was way better than Bret.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Except the crowd still chants it at him. Other than that, yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Both had title reigns in one of WWE's financially trying periods. What makes Shawn's better? Especially when one of his ended in about a week after he got a boo boo on his knee.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Shawn had more entertaining matches.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I haven't heard it in YEARS when Cena is wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  127. By that logic, we should throw Taker out of there since he may have had a total of five entertaining matches while champion, two of them being with Bret.

    ReplyDelete
  128. you got me there, plus I dug Sato's nephew's fighting gear.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Undertaker was champ 4 times. And I think you're confused. This is my list. Feel free to make your own. There is no 'we'.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Do you have any proof?

Cause right now you sound like the biggest mark of all goddamn time.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Bret Hart was champ five times. What's your point?

I bet you have Miz on your list as well.

    ReplyDelete
  132. What I detest is that HHH gets to use real life qualities (a guy's size, physique, hairstyle, legitimate past) and say along with his idiot wife tweeting, "It's just part of a storyline and these are just characters, yep. We're telling stories. But BeASTAR is for realz." Paraphrasing but she just tweeted that this week.

But then no one is allowed to retaliate on that deeper level that will resonate with fans and truly build a connection with the fans. How many other characters are allowed to dig into HHH for his many faults, both superficial and of his past? Why don't the other wrestlers get to play "it's just character" card and mock the holy hell out of HHH?

HHH won't be half the businessman Vince is if he never shows ass as a character. Vince was proud to show ass, both literally and figuratively, on a yearly basis for about a ten year stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  133. The point is that he had other matches during other reigns.

I'm not sure why my opinion upsets you so much.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I'm just pointing out how ludicrous your opinion is. You have Taker on your list, but not Bret, based on "entertaining" matches.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Yup. I don't find Bret entertaining. Which apparently is very upsetting to you.

    ReplyDelete
  136. You don't find Bret entertaining, in or out of the ring, yet you find Miz entertaining?

    Yep, troll.

    ReplyDelete
  137. lol. I'll admit to being annoyed and speaking from a mark perspective. Mission accomplished, heel HHH!

    ReplyDelete
  138. From a GUN. Seriously?

We're not talking about the garden variety STUNNER! here, but a "madman" aiming what looks like a loaded firearm at you.

I'm sorry, but HHH no-selling being "shot" and Pedigreeing Austin for DARING to "threaten" him would have been the drizzling and oozing shits.

    ReplyDelete
  139. At some point, you really need to grasp the concept that everybody doesn't like the same stuff as you.

    ReplyDelete
  140. and then was moved to Smackdown to render that moot.

Yes it was to shore up the star power, but obviously the move was two fold.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Vince and HHH are totally different characters. Yes, they're both heel authority figures, but that's ignoring the context: HHH is a 13-time world champion who was beating the piss out of Brock Lesnar a few months ago. Vince was a non-wrestler who happened to be pretty buff. You might not like the context, but it is what it is. And that's not to mention the differences between Austin (since he was the guy mentioned in the original question/comment) and Bryan.

With all that being said, I don't disagree that HHH should show ass eventually, but I'm not sure what the complaints are about thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  142. what 2001 face run?

    ReplyDelete
  143. Does the name Batista ring a bell? How about Chris Benoit? And yes, Benoit eventually returned to the midcard, but he usually got the better of Trips in their one-on-one encounters, including in their last ever match together (which Benoit won).

    ReplyDelete
  144. He was eventually going to turn face and feud with Austin apparently, but the injury put a stop to it.

    ReplyDelete
  145. He came back as a top guy, not THE top guy. Batista was still higher in the pecking-order than Trips when the latter returned. Batista was the top star on SmackDown and the second biggest star in the company. HHH was the second biggest star on RAW and the third or fourth biggest star in the company, depending on your viewpoint.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Your point would work a lot better if HHH wasn't over as a face. But he was, so your argument is sort of based on a fallacy.

    ReplyDelete
  147. 05 series against Angle

    ReplyDelete
  148. Cena had the reputation for supposedly not knowing how to wrestle well before the HHH feud. Granted, it may have exacerbated the criticism of Cena's wrestling ability, but it didn't start there.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Reading this blog is like a time machine that takes you back a decade to 2003. Reading the HHHatred on here, you'd think Trips was fresh off of beating Booker T at WrestleMania XIX.

    ReplyDelete
  150. One's a very successful, semi-retired wrestler. The other was a (buff) middle-aged/old guy.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Except HHH doesn't talk himself up nearly as much as people claim. Listen to him talking about guys like Hogan, Austin and Cena, he just about always speaks about them in more glowing terms than he does himself.

    ReplyDelete
  152. As I recall, HHH didn't break kayfabe any more than Punk did.

    ReplyDelete
  153. One's a former champion barely removed from a WrestleMania match and the other never stepped foot in a ring before that point.

    ReplyDelete
  154. HHH didn't even get the main event title feud with Cena until about a month before WrestleMania

    ReplyDelete
  155. Whatever is going on, I like it. I HATE the heels in this scenario and want to see them get their comeuppance. As long as the endpoint is Daniel Bryan beating Orton cleanly for the title with HHH looking on with a pissed off look, they will have done their job.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Plus, it's still very early into his tenure as the top heel executive. I'm willing to give him some time to ease into the position of Chief Bumping Officer.

    ReplyDelete
  157. lol. It happened literally this month.

    ReplyDelete
  158. That was off the charts amazing. I totally marked out, as well. I mean, he just BURIED Rock with that.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Yeah, CM Punk owned him in that segment. I mean, trying to get people to chant cookie-puss? Followed by Punk's epic takedown? Never thought I'd see someone dominate Rock on the mic like that.

    ReplyDelete
  160. And HHH needed to be a 13-time champ and beat the piss out of Lesnar because... ... ...?

His ego was out of control before and it still shows signs of being out of control now. He has carte blanche to say whatever he wants and can excuse himself from any mistakes he makes.

He is 44 years old, a mere 8 years younger than Vince when he started heeling it up. He hasn't been able to work a fast paced match since his series with Jeff Hardy 5 years ago (and even then Hardy did the bulk of the work). He only makes himself relevant by sheer force. It's time he start to alter his role and character's strengths.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Didn't hear it, but I don't doubt crowds chanting stupid shit.

    ReplyDelete
  162. "He only makes himself relevant by sheer force."

The crowd spontaneously erupting into "HHH" chants a couple of weeks back disagrees with you a bit there. =)

Doesn't matter. He still uses it as an example.
