Going home pretty soon and I have a 17 hour flight.
I hate the viewing choices on international flights so I made the decision to watch some wrestling.
For all the years I have watched wrestling, I am coming up blank at what I want to watch, so I am looking to the BoD for inspiration.
I'd like a nice mix of workrate, entertaining crap, squash matches, classic WCW/ECW/ROH/TNA/WW(F)E, maybe some Japan/Mexico.
Whatever you recommend, I will look up and "acquire"
Thx in advance,
The Fuj
1 Climax!
WM9
ReplyDeleteRR92.
ReplyDeleteRR93!
ReplyDeleteWrestlemania IV. That'll kill some time.
ReplyDeleteYou gotta be fair to Flair!
ReplyDeleteFlair won in 92, unless you're trying to tell me something else.
ReplyDeleteCM Punk's over-the-top run in FIP. There are two best-of sets out there.
ReplyDeleteMan I'm so wrong. Apologies, I gotta not post on here while doing other things.
ReplyDeleteMass Transit. Over the Edge '99. "Dr. D" David Schultz chokes out John Stossel. Bootleg footage of Chris Benoit leaving his gate open...
ReplyDeleteThe Hogan Savage versus everyone in the 8 layer cage.
ReplyDeleteFlair/Sting vs. Muta/Funk in the thunderdome (why would they climb up??!)
Mankind/Rock halftime heat
recent njpw stuff with Rainmaker or the Thriller jacket knee strike guy
Some old Flair vs. Sting matches
You can never go wrong with Bryan Danielson in ROH. His match with Paul London in 2003 was amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Savage go for the pin?!
ReplyDeleteSacrifice 2007. It might be the best top to bottom PPV TNA ever did.
ReplyDeleteCan't go wrong with some Raws from 97. Bonus points if you pick the ones leading up to the good PPVs.
ReplyDeleteTheir last two shows in 2009 were great too. Angle/Nigel plus the Joe/Styles/Daniels three way and singles match.
ReplyDeleteA little caveat.
ReplyDeleteI only have youtube at my disposal
Just pick a year, and type in:
ReplyDelete"(YEAR) Wrestling" in Youtube Search. Start with your birthyear for fun.
Need to sleep? Pick anything pre-1980. ;) (Although there is some GREAT stuff there.)
If you can find all of the Wrestling Observer matches of the year, those are always a great choice.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the first TNA X cup, with Teddy Hart and Juvy tearing things up is always great.
Fully Loaded 2000.
ReplyDeleteLow Ki vs AJ Styles Zero One 2005. That match has it all.
ReplyDeleteSearch for Saturday Night Main event you will find a ton.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Samoa Joe v Kobashi.
And if you haven't done it yet, the last two Steve Austin podcasts are three hours of him and Flair chatting and it's pretty amazing.
Survivor Series 96
ReplyDeleteTanahashi vs. Suzuki from 10/8/12
ReplyDeleteAlso the TNA channel has the AJ/Daniels/Joe 3-way, which legend has it is a ***** match.
ReplyDeleteSteiners vs Sting/Luger, Steiners vs Harts
ReplyDeleteIt's been too long since I've seen that Teddy/Juvy match, which I happened to catch live. I think I know what I'll be checking out when I get off work.
ReplyDeleteWrestleMania X
ReplyDeleteSummerSlam 91, 92, 94
Those are a few off hand (if you're into older stuff) that have a good mix, and make for fun rewatches.
Have a safe trip.
Survivor Series '95: The End of an (Awful) Era.
ReplyDeleteAnother great Mexican match:
ReplyDeleteAtlantis vs. Villano III, mask vs. mask
I believe it was match of the year in 2000
Bash '89
ReplyDeleteGo to tvtropes.org and look up the Crowning Moments of Funny and Crowning Moments of Awesome pages. Both pages have links to a Professional Wrestling index page; there should be plenty of YouTube links there.
ReplyDeleteHere are some matches that can occupy some of your flight that can be found on YouTube
ReplyDeleteSheik vs. Slaughter Bootcamp Match
America' s Most Wanted vs. XXX, both steel cage matches
Freebirds vs. Von Erich's "Anything Goes" match.
Moreshima vs. Danielson 2007 ROH, 8/25/07
Toyota & Yamada vs. Kansai & Ozaki 4/21/93, the best womens match ever
Cactus Jack & Mikey Whipwreck vs. Public Enemy from 1994 ECW
Rockers vs. Brainbusters, 2 out of 3 falls from SNME
Dragon Kid & Saito & Horiguchi vs. CIMA & Yoshino & Doi, ROH 3/31/06

Shelton Benjamin vs. Triple H, RAW 3/29/04
1987 Survivor Series tag-team match.
Flair vs. Windham, NWA 1987
Fuj - WM 17. I watched it a few weeks ago after having only watched the original live viewing. Still the shit. Safe travels
ReplyDeleteWell, I am not very familiar with ROH - but there are some things I want to check out - I think they have compilations dedicated to the original Summer of Punk. And they put together a series of 6 or 7 DVDs from 2006 called the Milestone Series, which is supposed to be some of their best stuff - covering the ROH/CZW feud, appearances by Dragon Gate wrestlers from Japan, a lots of Samoa Joe & Bryan Danielson (who was ROH champ at the time). And while it's not part of the series, I've also heard good things about the Wargames-style match that blows off the ROH/CZW feud and setups the Homicide/Cornette feud.
ReplyDeleteAs I've said - I haven't seen this stuff, but it's what I'd look for if I was in your position.
Best Lucha match I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThat match was awesome. One of the most emotional matches of all-time.
ReplyDeletethe 88 survivor series tag match is better
ReplyDeleteI think I liked 87 a bit more but 88 also had the double-turn between the Powers of Pain and Demolition. But really, you cant go wrong with either one.
ReplyDeleteOr the Scott Steiner math/Sacrifice promo on a continous loop.
ReplyDeleteThe Danielson/Morishima feud from ROH is one of my all-time favorites. There's very little angle to it; the whole story is told through the escalating intensity of the matches as they move from a sporting rivalry for the title (Manhattan Mayhem 07) to the ultimate personal blood-feud (Final Battle 2008).
ReplyDeleteHave you seen this:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCgxDJ-QnLE
It's a comprehensive two hour compilation of Flair's early WWF run to the title. Completely awesome and one of the best fan made comps ever.
The final day of this year's G1 Climax tournament is a good 4 hours plus of stuff. Definitely lived up to the hype.
ReplyDeleteSavage v Warrior, WM7
ReplyDeleteShawnee Michaels v Rick Martel, Summerslam 92
Boss Man v Barbarian, RR 91
CanAm Connection v Bob Orton & don Muraco, WM3
All of Survivor Series 87
Jumping Bomb Angels v Glamour Girls, RR 88
The Powers of Pain (The Warlord and The Barbarian), The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty), The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid), The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart), and The Young Stallions (Jim Powers and Paul Roma) defeated Demolition (Ax and Smash), The Brain Busters (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard), The Bolsheviks (Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov), The Fabulous Rougeaus (Raymond and Jacques), and The Conquistadors (Uno and Dos) (with Mr. Fuji, Bobby Heenan, Slick, and Jimmy Hart), Survivor Series 88
Been watching ones tech every day and posting which ones on my twitter. Good mix of classics, Japan, squash matches, and crap.
ReplyDeleteFlair vs steamboat 1989 (pick one or all three), 1990 royal rumble, 1988 survivor series tag teams match, Oz debut, Hogan vs Tenryu from 12/91, Vader vs Hansen from 2/90, Vader vs sting from bash 92, hogan vs savage from Mania V, Bret vs Owen cage match, Shawn vs Undertaker wm 25, Bash 89 (while show), WM X-7 (whole show). ReplyDeleteSuperBrawl 1.
ReplyDeleteFun squashes, a few solid singles matches, and the best WCW tag team match ever. The full show itself plays thru very well
This guy gets it
ReplyDelete...wow
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that's the only Teddy Hart match that I've seen and it was awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou could always track down that 3 hour compilation of the Kiss My Ass Club + Buttshots that someone emailed about a while back.
ReplyDeleteThank you all. I will have a lot of choices for this flight.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are really the best.
I love ths community.
No problem
ReplyDeleteAlso, look for the guy who posted all of the Prime Time Wrestling shows with Gorilla and Bobby but left out all the wrestling.
That might be one of the stupidest things ever intentionally done in a match. Like Savage was just "Me forget how to wrestling" at the end of a rumble match.
ReplyDeleteLeaving the sandbox or going back to it? Shits bout to get real in that part of the world.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the only TNA PPV's I bought and I was not let down.
ReplyDeleteLeaving the sandbox for a quick RnR.
ReplyDeleteHeaded back to Cleveland for some Pussy, weed and alcohol (lol)
I gotta come back though, but as it stands I only have 137 days left. This year has been flying by, thanks to the BoD.
I'm literally HEATED looking at all these other suggestions. The man gave you an answer, the best answer possible. That's it, end of discussion, G1 Climax 23~!
ReplyDeleteLook, no bullshit.. The last 3 minutes of Nakamura vs. Ibushi are the BEST last 3 minutes of a match in the history of EVER. The powerbomb, knees to the Phoenix Splash, Nakamura punking Ibushi out something strong as if he blew a spot or something, then Ibushi WILL TAKE NO MORE OF THIS~!, he hits Nakamura with Palm Strikes straight out of the Miyagi play book... Show me Wax the Car, Show me Paint the Fence.. A couple Bomb-a-ye's.. a MOTHERFUCKING ONE COUNT~!
How can a wrestling fan (a fan of "WRESTLING") ask for anything more than this instant classic of a main event~?!?!? I'm like, overcome with chills just typing this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4DHIIUS2Ms
Oh, and how dare I forget the subtle Thumb to the Throat after the palm strikes and lariat. That's probably my single favorite moment of the entire wrestling year.

ReplyDeleteWelcome home, Fuj.
ReplyDeleteSteiners v. Sting/Luger. So good, so much to see in only 10 minutes.
ReplyDeleteIt's been twelve years since the greatest PPV of all time. Shit.
ReplyDeleteMick Foley's Greatest Hits & Misses.
ReplyDeleteSee? 'Cos you hate Mick.
Yea man, how fucking old does that make you feel?
ReplyDeleteI know. I remember that period like it was yesterday, though.
ReplyDeleteThe Best of Giant Gonzalez. Done and done.
ReplyDeleteI first saw Ultimo Guerrero at Victory ROad 2008.
ReplyDeleteHe was busting out some great power moves.
