So according to this...
...the upcoming Raw 20th Anniversary collection is slated to have UP TO 20 complete episodes of the show. Which episodes do you think should obviously be included? Which episodes aren't so obvious that you'd like to see included? And would you prefer just an unreleased match compilation?
More obvious question, do we REALLY need another DVD compilation celebrating the longevity of RAW? Aren't the previous 5 or 6 enough by now?
Anyway, the full episode idea is interesting, although I don't really remember many full ones. Obvious choices:
- The first one
- The 1-2-3 Kid upset / Marty Jannetty return episode
- Steve Austin terrorizes the Hart Foundation for two hours
- This year's post-Wrestlemania snark-fest
- The USA Homecoming episode
- RAW Old School
I'm sure there's many others, but those would have to be on there, you'd think.
Dallas, 10-man tag
ReplyDeleteMick Foley wins the WWF title
The night ECW formed and joined the Alliance. The story didn't pay out well, but that was a good episiode.
ReplyDeletebob barker
ReplyDeleteThe 1998 episode when Tyson shows up for the first time.
ReplyDeleteAustin 'standing tall' over the Harts before Pillman attacks him like a rabid dog. Okay just everything Pillman.
ReplyDeleteThe first RAW from MSG where HHH/Cactus Jack have a great street fight and Austin gives McMahon the Stunner for the first time...
ReplyDeleteSo what do you do about the big bulk of episodes featuring Chris Benoit?
ReplyDeleteThe Detroit Raw the night after Breakdown '98 with the zamboni and UT/Kane destroying Vince, and Mankind offering Vince the Big Gulp, and finishing with The Rock pinning Taker clean in the 3 on 2 handicap match is a must.
ReplyDeletesimulcast
ReplyDeleteI doubt anything featuring Benoit will be included.
ReplyDeletethe raw where buff and booker fight for the WCW title
ReplyDeleteNo chance of the 10 man.
ReplyDeleteThe episode with the ECW invasion from 1997 would be sweet.
ReplyDeleteThe Raw from the night after Wrestlemania 14 is another classic episode.
The Raw leading up to Wrestlemania 21 with Jake the Snake coming out to talk to Orton and Jannetty returning for a one night Rockers reunion is another one of my picks.
I have just about every episode of Raw I want due to years of tape trading, but I'm still pretty interested to see where they go with this release. Now that they can release episodes without having to edit the use of WWF and the scratch logo, we could potentially get some incredible stuff in pristine quality, unedited. We might be getting one of the best releases ever if this rumor is true.
Put the W scratch logo over his face or something.
ReplyDeleteIf he's in an undercard match, you just edit it out, or leave it in there and don't call attention to it. I doubt having a random Benoit vs. Saturn match in Q3 is going to be a big deal.
ReplyDeleteBut the odds of seeing the Dallas 10-man, or any of the Benoit/Jericho vs. HHH/Austin/McMahon stuff is unlikely.
Superimpose the Miz's smiling face over Benoit's head and each time one of the announcers says "Chris Benoit," play a voice over of Michael Cole saying, "The Most Must See Superstar in WWE History!"
ReplyDeleteWhere to Steph?
ReplyDeleteIt was me Austin! It was me all along!
Choppy-choppy your pee-pee!
It's a hand!
Maybe the Raw where Austin kidnaps Vince. The Stone Cold character was simply awesome when even his fans and biggest empathizers started to wonder, "Is he taking this too far?"
ReplyDeleteThe episode right after the Hart Foundation reformed, with a Bulldog/UT title match and Owen beating Rocky for the IC title.
ReplyDeleteThe McMahon/Austin match where Austin had one arm tied behind his back, and Dude Love debuted.
It's not one that I need to see, but I'll be surprised if they don't have the one-night tournament after MITB where Rey won the title, Cena beat Rey, and Punk returned to "Cult of Personality".
The first TNN/Spike episode, where Edge and Jeff Hardy debuted the "hanging from the ceiling top-rope spear" ladder match spot.
The one with the Undertaker attempting to have his black wedding with Stephanie is wonderful. The show-long story of Vince begging Austin for his help, and everyone giving Austin the stink-eye about not helping Stephanie is so well done.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if the Nexus intro is included. The Nexus may not have hung around, but the wrestlers make up half the current midcard...
ReplyDeleteI didn't know those were the same show... but also to that, Undertaker chokeslamming both Bret and Shawn to finish the show.
ReplyDeleteThe one with the hourlong Shawn Michaels match.
ReplyDeleteProbably a merging of the Raw and final Nitro night.
Raw is Owen.
ReplyDeleteWhy not? Benoit's been on other DVDs recently, in matches with fewer people than 10 (still no 1-on-1s but getting closer).
ReplyDeleteThat was bigger than the moon landing.
ReplyDeleteI hope they show the full RAW where they celebrated their 15 year anniversary. That was a real fun show.
ReplyDeleteThat and this year's RAW where they had it in New Jersey after Mania
That one from a few weeks ago with the segment that was made up entirely of Eva Marie standing up and going 'I'm here to make a NAME for MYSELF!' and then slaps Jerry Lawler in the face for no apparent reason.
ReplyDeleteScrew the rest of the episode - greatest segment in WWE history. Worth inclusion.
Total Divas crossover is just the gravy.
Total Divas gave us the Divine JoJo. I have no complaints
ReplyDeleteDidn't Steph get kidnapped by Taker at Backlash?
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Dallas. Crowd was hot all night.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the RAW after Mania XIV. X-Pac returning, HHH taking over DX, Austin rejecting McMahon's efforts to be the Corporate champ, I'm pretty sure there was some Rocky goodness on that episode too.
ReplyDeleteHaha, nice.
ReplyDeleteI like Total Divas far more than any straight man should admit, but JoJo just hasn't BROUGHT THE ASSCREAM the way Eva Marie does.
These SHOULD be on there:
ReplyDelete* First one
* ECW invasion
* Last Nitro ("Looks like the Lex Express has run out of gas")
* The one after WM 14 with X Pac showing up
* The one where Y2J debuts
* Whichever night Rock blasts into Jericho with "Juventud?"
* The night Hogan challenges Rock (that whole episode was good)
* Shawn lost his smile
* The one after Mania LAST year (where Brock shows up)
* Raw 1,000
* Old School Raw
* Homecoming
* Raw is Owen
Not the one right after Montreal, because that one kind of sucked. The "Bret screwed Bret" line was a few weeks later.
Maybe.
ReplyDeleteThe TNN premiere. One of the most memorable episodes, to me.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Martha will let that happen.
ReplyDeleteA lot of obvious ones have been mentioned (often for good reasons), so I'll toss out one that is less obvious. The Raw the night after the 1997 Rumble, the one where Bret quits after chewing out Vince, only to come back later in the show. Some great mic work from both Bret and Austin, a tremendous storyline, a good tag match (Owen & Bulldog vs. Furnas & Lafon), and a fun brawl between Austin & Taker (with Bret getting involved) to end the show. Just a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteThose eyes tho. Maaaaan
ReplyDeleteWell, they do keep him when they promise "complete" histories of certain matches or shows.
ReplyDeleteNikki Bella's eyes are bigger than Brie Bella's eyes
ReplyDeleteBut not when the focus of the match is him and his mates turning on Foley and teaming with HHH.
ReplyDeleteAin't it the truth. It's a damn shame too.
ReplyDeleteThey should just put all the RAWs online.
ReplyDeleteNever got the appeal of reality tv. If she can't act and can't wrestle why is she there?
ReplyDeleteI was at that show! Definitely a fun night.
ReplyDeleteJust do to Benoit what that writer claimed that Vince always wanted to do to Christian's face: put a blue dot over it.
ReplyDeleteAnd then every time the announcers say Benoit, a dubbed voice just says "Al Pacino".
The episode where Foley wins the title for the first time HAS to be there, along with the 2002 episode where Jericho and Benoit beat Austin and HHH for the tag titles.
ReplyDeleteOh wait....
I think that Y2J debut has become a little overrated over the years. Yeah he got a nice pop, as everybody switching federations did. But the "moment" is really more a funny Rock promo than it is a big debut for Jericho. To me anyway.
ReplyDelete* The one where Y2J debuts
ReplyDelete* Whichever night Rock blasts into Jericho with "Juventud?"
Those are the same episode.
That was 2001. And wasn't it Jericho and Richards?
ReplyDeleteVery few episodes that I would want to watch in their entirety. I'd rather them have a disk of matches, a disk of promos, and a disk of whatever.
ReplyDeleteRic Flair send-off.
ReplyDeleteI don't really remember many full eps.
ReplyDeleteThe one that was centered around Pillman praying was pretty cool.
The one after WMXIV where Waltman re-debuted and HHH took over DX. That was basically a reboot of the franchise.
The night ECW invaded, it seemed like invasion angle had hope. However, its was just a couple of weeks later they were jobbing every single night. What a waste.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to think of Benoit free Raws. Most of my favorite episodes of Raw have him in a major role, especially during the awesome year of 2004.
ReplyDeleteAustin running down and saving Stephanie was one of my biggest mark out moments ever.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was at backlash for sure. Just had this argument with a friend who swore it happened on raw.
ReplyDeleteJust thought of another one: the first raw roulette with that awesome tlc match.
ReplyDeleteI upvoted just for the Animated Clerks reference.
ReplyDeleteI normally side with her in these cases, but this is one instance where I think she should back down.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's the same show. Bret, UT, and Shawn actually had a triple-threat dark match after the show went off the air. Bret pinned Shawn after UT hit the tombstone on Shawn but Owen and Bulldog pulled UT outside the ring allowing Bret to get the pin.
ReplyDeleteMay 10, 1999. I think it was the highest-rated Raw ever, and it delivered.
ReplyDeleteThey should have been releasing them as season sets. For the old one hour episodes, you can fit the four on one disc, making it a 12 disc set. Or break it in to two sets/year. They'd make a mint on those, especially if they did them uncut and released in Canada since we always got shitty editing on TSN.
ReplyDeleteHow about every damn Raw from 1997 and 1998? What great television.
ReplyDeleteThey shouldn't bother with DVD at all. Just offer the RAWs on WWE.com or itunes as digital downloads. Sure people would pirate some of them, but they'd still make more than the RAWs or old PPVs just sitting around doing nothing.
ReplyDeleteThey are not the same episode.
ReplyDeleteWhy? So we can have Road Dogg and The Godfather wanting to smoke immortalised on DVD? Martha would be in the right in this one.
ReplyDeleteWhere To Stephanie is Backlash, not RAW
ReplyDeleteJust rewatched it...and you're right. My bad.
ReplyDelete
