Hi, just wondered do you think Vince or Trips actually follow other Groups shows? ie keep up with storylines and the like in TNA? Not have it watched, but watch in themselves? Was curious as to that and if they watched Wcw back in the day
With thanks Geemann
Everything I've ever heard says that Vince doesn't watch or give a crap about TNA, or any other wrestling promotions aside from his own.
I doubt Vince pays attention, but I'd think HHH at least occasionally checks in. Given that he's in charge of ' talent' he might want to look out for guys he'd be interested in signing.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was common knowledge that Nitro was on in the back every Monday.
ReplyDeleteI think that was more of the wrestlers watching, not VInce McMahon. And even that probably stopped around 1999 once WCW truly became a huge joke.
ReplyDeleteI usually hear it more of the other way around like the guys in WCW were watching RAW backstage.
That'd be the only reason why HHH would watch, i would think and even then, it's really not "watching" so much as "checking to see if this guy we're interested in/is interested in us has something or is a complete shitshow."
ReplyDeleteI can see why Vince wouldn't anymore but I'm sure in the old days he paid close attention.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure hhh is unbelievablely busy but I can't imagine if he loves wrestling as much as he says (and I believe it) he doesn't watch TNA/roh/Mexico/japan to some extent. Plus he knows Hardy/ bully/angle etc so why not check it out
'Everything I've ever heard says that Vince doesn't watch or give a crap
ReplyDeleteabout anything in popular culture post-2003.
ftfy
No, Vince (or Vince's right hand men for Raw) were watching Nitro so that they could counter-program on the fly.
ReplyDeleteI don't think half this blog could.
ReplyDeleteTouche.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's what he says, but I've never bought that. Maybe with TNA, but even still I doubt it. Everything about his personality and his past behavior pretty much points to him being the type of guy to obsess about everyone else, but always compare himself upwardly. Very passive aggressive.
ReplyDeleteAnytime someone brought up the NWA or Ted Turner to him in interviews back in the day, he'd quickly trot out the line about how they weren't his competition and so he didn't worry about them -- he was competing with the NBA, Mickey Mouse, and the Icecapades. Look at all the stuff he did though while he was saying that out of one side of his mouth -- for example, creating the Survivor Series mostly to screw with Starrcade and the NWAs chance at making some money on PPV and then creating the Royal Rumble soley to screw up the NWAs 2nd attempt at it too. There are a ton of examples of it in the later 1990s too, with the same kind of dynamic ("they're wrassling, we're entertainment").
Vince doesn't even pay full attention to WWE programming.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, all of those comments were referring to Turner & WCW, not the pre-WCW NWA territories. And they were made long after the battle when won - most of the territories had crumbled and WCW was distant, distant 2nd place.
ReplyDeleteThe Survivor Series & Royal Rumble were counter-programmed against Crockett PPVs, before Turner bought out JCP. Regardless, you don't need to be actively watching Crockett television to know when Starcade is and decide to put up a event against it.
Just because Vince doesn't pay attention to other promotions now and probably didn't for most of the 90s doesn't mean he wasn't paying attention in the 80s, back when he was going up against some strong and entrenched territories, and fighting for markets and TV time.
where the hell you been at?
ReplyDeleteI doubt HHH sits down and watches 2 hours of TNA every week - but I'm sure he tries to watch individual matches when he can, especially if a wrestler or a match is generating some buzz.
ReplyDeleteCan't remember which recent DVD it was, maybe the nWo one, but Vince talked about tuning in to see what WCW was going to do with the first Nitro.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your new character, "Stereotypical White Pussy"?
ReplyDeleteThey don't sit and watch it every week from start to finish. But I have no doubt they follow the product. If only just to keep up on future talent.
ReplyDeleteTriple H: "So I was watching TNA the other day a--"
ReplyDeleteVince: "HAHA! TITS AND ASS!!"
Triple H: "...Yeah. Whatever."
Yeah...it's been said for awhile that he's basically clueless as to the goings on of the b and c level shows.
ReplyDeleteWhy not check it out? Because it's TNA, that's why not.
ReplyDeleteOkay....everyone go ahead and tar and feather me for being clueless....but what the fuck is ftfy?
ReplyDeletefixed that for you.
ReplyDelete(I think)
I'm sure Vince doesn't watch a second of it. Although I'm sure they have a poor soul on the payrole keeping tabs
ReplyDeleteWWE has lifted a few things from TNA in the past few years, such as the recap video at the start of Raw, so someone plays attention.
ReplyDeleteHogan has said he had one TV for RAW and one TV for Nitro.
ReplyDeleteYeah, NXT Redemption got so crazy for awhile there that there's NO WAY Vince was actively signing off on those angles.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure someone is paying attention. But that someone probably isn't Vince.
ReplyDeleteThat guy deserves hazard pay.
ReplyDeleteBut when they finally buy the company, he'll know what to put on the RVD, Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle DVDs.
I vaguely remember reading about Vince catching wind of a Heat or Velocity storyline that had been airing for several weeks and getting annoyed and killing it. This was 10ish years ago so I'm fuzzy on the details, but the meat of the story was that he wasn't involved in the production at all, and rarely bothered to review them. I find this interesting b/c it goes against the micro-managing control freak attitude that is often attributed to him.
ReplyDeleteHey I had to look up twerking today, don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the TNA power structure could.
ReplyDeleteEmerging from the depths of wrestling's past nwa88 rises from the ignorant masses to enlighten us.
ReplyDeleteY'know what you put on the RVD doc from TNA? Jack and shit.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Downvotes?
ReplyDeletecorrect
ReplyDeleteI want to say that was Stevie Richards being the self-proclaimed "GM of Heat" but it could be something else.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't, though the last time I watched that joke of a company was Destination X 2012.
ReplyDeleteNah... you can always put his TNA debut on there... the whole f'n thing.
ReplyDeleteIt's more likely someone from TNA talks to friends in WWE than Vince sitting down with popcorn and watching some Impact. Then again, I don't really think Vince is a huge fan of wrestling.
ReplyDeleteYes! That's what it was.
ReplyDeleteHHH probably has someone who reports to him keep up with it, and that's probably just for talent scouting purposes.
ReplyDeleteI doubt a guy like HHH has ever watched 5 minutes of TNA stuff from guys like Somoa Joe and AJ Styles. But, if their contracts are coming up, and they are sending feelers out to WWE, HHH's guy probably puts together a little video package of promos and ring work.
Other than that, I can't see people like HHH or Vince having the time to watch. There's so much work involved in running multimillion dollar business that doesn't even have anything to do with putting on the show.
... or popcorn.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet from the start, TNA has operated under the belief that they keep Vince sweating at nights. Which explains a lot of the mess the company has been so much.
ReplyDeletehaha thanks guys :)
ReplyDeleteI've had a rough few months personally as well as a new job that takes up way too much of my time, but I've missed not being able to check in around here as much, but hopefully things will be dying down a bit.
What mess are they in exactly? Please do tell with your inside information. I doubt you have any knowledge. And, of course. WWE marks like you are the only ones constantly making it into a WWE vs TNA feud. I don't expect a reply because people like you always spew out nonsense but have nothing to back it up with.
