It's funny to observe that it seems like as a society, we're more sensitive to emotional damage (obviously there's alleged physical damage with this angle, but the emotional scarring an abusive relationship creates is almost always the bigger problem) but most modern TV shows continue to push the limit in terms of pure violence and gore we're able to see on basic TV. Like the stuff done on Sons of Anarchy would never fly in 1988, but is OK now and this angle that was OK in 1988 would never fly now.
I don't what that says or it means, I just find it interesting.
That's called knowing your crowd.
ReplyDeleteThen the WWF tried the same thing in 1999 only Marianna couldn't act and the payoff was Thrasher saying "BUSTED!"
ReplyDeleteAh, the yellow paint angles, a Memphis/Mid South classic. Dollars to donuts Bill Dundee had the book.
ReplyDeleteyup
ReplyDeleteThat's what I miss,,,all the different flavors of wrestling. Now the is just chocolate. And it's made of Vince's and HHH's shit.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately for us (and unknowingly to most) the WWE's crowd consists mostly of children, we may not like it...but it's the truth.

ReplyDeleteNo, it doesn't, the average viewer age is in the 40's, even on their corporate site they say something like 3/4s of their audience is 18 and up
ReplyDeleteOn a somewhat related angle, Blazing Saddles would never get made today.
ReplyDeleteChrist. That was fucking brutal. Hanging a dude. Damn.
