Hola Otters, today concludes our 3-part series on TV series we loved and hated to see go, and how well they went. Today will be a little different, as we're going to focus on our favorite episodes of shows, that may or may not be the finale.
What is your favorite episode of a TV show, currently airing or not?
I have a few:
Scrubs - I actually really loved the ABC finale so much that it could have been my favorite had there not be OBVIOUS JD stunt doubles for a variety of shots. My favorite of the series is tough to pin down, but I always liked the one where JD's Dad died and Dr. Cox has trouble being the mentor he knows he should be.
Roseanne - The one where Roseanne goes over and gets David from his abusive mother always gave me chills - "Well women in glass whore houses shouldn't throw stones" is up there with "I am the Danger!" in terms of my favorite lines in TV.
The West Wing - While the season 2 finale gets a ton of credit (Two Cathedrals) my favorite series of episodes are probably the season four arc detailing the election, involving Bartlett coming to terms with his...bookish and nerdy nature, and not worrying if people think he's relatable enough - ultimately challenging his opponent, and the nation, to realize that governing needs as many words as it can get. in the debate episode 'Game On'.
The Wire - Season 4 finale. Sometimes people get out.
Breaking Bad - I initially thought that "Face/Off" was my favorite, but the thing about Breaking Bad is that it's actually better 'in the moment' so to speak, than it is in pieces. Therefore my favorite episode remains the pilot for how fucking ribald it is.
---------------------------------------
Blog Otter Award: All of us, for being a bunch of dorky wrestling fans who happily admit we loves us some Betty, Bea, Rue, and Estelle in their roles of a lifetime.
1. I missed a ton of my favorite show endings yesterday, including Who's The Boss, Fresh Prince, Sports Night featuring Agent Coulson, and the aforementioned Golden Girls.
2. If you're having a hard time figuring out WHY the Sopranos is so god damn fucking insane when you think about it, I'm linking you to this insane article that is absolutely worth the read if you loved the show and wanted answers. For the record, while most shows have subtext you can pull out of them, David Chase, the writer and creator of the show, INTENDED to put in all sorts of little details and plot points to write the show. Get some coffee on, it's a doozy, but worth every minute.
3. If you wanna do Breaking Bad Predictions lets keep them all to one 'thread' and reply to that. I have a few, including "Breaking Dad" where Jesse makes off with Brock, and another idea where regardless of whatever happens, Walt eventually ends up like he did in the pilot, no pants and a gun in his hand. He pulls the trigger with the gun to his temple. then *click*, the chamber is empty. Cut to credits.

Sacrifice of Angels - Deep Space Nine
ReplyDeleteEvery character major or minor has something important to do in order to help the federation retake Deep Space Nine from the Dominion. Space battles, character development, espionage, a prison break, Dukat losing his mind, divine intervention by the prophets... there is enough plot in this one episode to make a full length feature movie and everyone and everything about it is spectacular. If there was a God in real life that would suddenly make a fleet of bad guys disappear like the prophets did I wouldn't be an atheist. Hell even the title of the episode is awesome.
That is an interesting choice for West Wing btw... I always thought they didn't do enough service to Bartlet's re-election campaign (although Bruno is the man) and I enjoyed the campaign of the last 2 seasons better... that was actually my favorite part of the series... but I of course am bias because that's what I was doing at the times so it is easy for me to enjoy. As for the episode you mention, I do like the scene where he tells Ritchie "In case you were wondering 'Crime boy I don't know'" is where I decided to kick your ass". But if forced to pick a favorite episode I probably either go with "Election Night" or "Two Cathedrals"
ReplyDeleteGood question, there are so many...
ReplyDelete- The Office/Scotts Tots: I literally felt awkward and uncomfortable while watching it. Great stuff
- Homeland, the one in season two where Carrie confronts Brody in the safehouse and gets him to work for the CIA. The scene where its just Carrie talking to Brody is just fucking fantastic.
- Curb/Seinfeld, just to many to count.
Easy number 1: when Sam buys the bar back for 85 cents on Cheers.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Married...with Children: Al hits the HR to win the softball game after they benched him and the labor day picnic ep where they end up using human ashes in the grill.
Wow so many The Office eps are sky high better in my mind.
ReplyDeleteAs far as CurbYE, gotta go with The Doll. Larry having to climb out the bathroom window at the end is priceless.
I love that Office episode for some reason, it perfectly captures Michael...a well intentioned guy who just cant get out of his own. Loved it, mainly for the awkwardness.
ReplyDeleteYea, the doll was fucking awesome. One of my favorites.
I wouldn't call Michael well intentioned, necessarily. He's well intentioned only insofar as it will make him look good.
ReplyDeleteOh hell yes. I was on pins and needles watching that growing up. GREAT stuff. That whole arc at the beginning of the season was great.
ReplyDeleteYea, hes got his faults but I think for the most part hes well intentioned and just wants to be liked above all else.
ReplyDeleteOOOOOOOOOOH I forgot about MWC... the episode where they go to the theater for Kelly's birthday is my favorite. "Daddy beat him up" "Of course pumpkin" :: Has no idea why he is beating the guy up, just happy to do so ::
ReplyDeleteThe Contest, there is none higher.
ReplyDeleteHaha i was just randomly thinking about that one last night.
ReplyDeleteStar Trek: Balance of Terror.
ReplyDeleteAlfred Hitchock Presents: Man From the South (although the rewatchability on this is low)
TZ: Too many to choose from...hold a gun to my head and I probably say A Good Life. Underrated is Third From the Sun, and the one where the anti-social dude gets the stopwatch.
TNG: BOBW pt. 1
DS9: Sacrifice of Angels, Far Beyond the Stars, Pale Moonlight.
Friday Night LIghts: Pilot episode, the first one with VooDoo or the S1 finale.
Seinfeld: Marine Biologist. George's speech is beyond epic. The Contest would be #2.
Office: Obviously a S2-S3 range. Can't remember specifics. Same with 30 Rock. Haven't rewatched enough to choose a favorite.
BSG: Season 2 finale when they find the map in the cave to Kobol.
Parks and Rec: The episode when Leslie finally wins her city council seat. Although when this show is on there are many that could be contenders. A regular non-quasi finale episode would probably be the camping one.
Freaks and Geeks: How do you even choose? Maybe Beers and Weirs or the Halloween episode.
Raw: HBK clobbering Taker and starting the Attitude era in earnest.
SD!: Whatever episode had the 2 out of 3 falls with the SD6.
And favorite basketball games, just for fun: Game 1 of the '01 finals just b/c it was fun to watch AI beat the fucking Lakers at their fucking apex. Jordan's 55 on the Suns in '93 in the finals. Game 6 of the finals this year, obviously. And favorite Blazers game would be Brandon Roy's 18 point quarter against Dallas in the playoffs.
Great great stuff. Love it.
ReplyDeleteFortune Favors the Bold.
ReplyDeleteGood call. Its in the pantheon of epic Seinfelds but I enjoy the Costanza-centric episodes better. Just personal preference.
ReplyDeleteMan, forgot at the South Park where Cartman has tourettes. Titty sprinkles! Donkey bonner!
ReplyDeleteSummer of George. Or the one where he puts the nightstand under his desk to sleep. Who hasn't considered doing tht? George is the American Dream.
ReplyDeleteFirst place: The intervention episode of Party of Five
ReplyDeleteClose Second: Friday Night Lights where Matt buried his dad
Best half hour: Boy Meets World when Topenga runs away from home to see Cory. Feeney "When you find love you hold onto it." She got to stay

These TV questions are outing me!
I enjoy that FNL epsiode but I always felt like it was too forced. Almost like one of those Oscar baits that ends up trying too hard and becomes overwrought. I actually prefer his scene in the shower with Coach Taylor in s2 for great Matt moments. And that sounds really ridiculous in writing but it's so not.
ReplyDeleteNewsRadio: Thought they did a fantastic job with THE Phil Hartman episode. Wasn't a fan of Lovetz from there on out, but for that episode, nicely done.
ReplyDeleteAngel: A Hole in the World....Fred
I'll add htis: It drives me INSANE that Michael Richards got more Emmy love than Jason Alexander. Don't get me wrong, both actors were perfection personified in those roles, and Kramer is amazing, but George Costanza is the best damn sitcom character of all time.
ReplyDeleteAll great great episodes. The one where the Yankees think he died bc he leaves his car in the parking lot. "Ken Phelps!!"
ReplyDeleteKind of surprised we don't end up with more anime discussion on here. Or Doctor Who, for that matter.
ReplyDeleteThat Sopranos link....have read it, don't really dispute any of the information in it. But yeah, refuse to go along with the conclusion. Chase can come to my house right now and confirm it and I still wouldn't accept Tony's death there.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Costanza was fucking phenomenal, there are so many epic Costanza moments. I read a Larry David interview and he said that alot of the stuff they wrote in about George, he actually did, like getting caught eating an eclair out of the trash and acting annoyed in order to look busy at work.
ReplyDeleteThe shower scene was the highlight of season two.
ReplyDelete"Whats wrong with me?"
"There's nothing wrong with you. Nothing at all"
Twilight Zone: definitely could list lots of eps for this. Doesn't speak well for my psyche but loved A Stop at Willoughby
ReplyDeleteI certainly have a large pool to draw from
ReplyDeletehttp://myanimelist.net/animelist/Nintendodude34&show=0&order=1
...that last one really works. You need to balance it with a jolly good times facade when there's nothing to do but if you know there's work to be done, act pissed and you're golden.
ReplyDeleteScott Tennermon must die was the best, Jerry. THE BEST!
ReplyDeleteWas just about to type that.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite episode of Breaking Bad is "The Fly."
ReplyDeleteMy favorite episode of Scrubs is the one where Brenden Frasier dies.
My favorite epsidoe of the Simpsons is the Lemon Tree.
Season 3 finale for The Office.
The one where the inn burns down and Rory picks Yale on Gilmore Girls.
And has anyone mentioned Buffy "Hush!" yet????
...I'll add Simpons: You Only Move Twice....Hank Scorpio...the hammock district
ReplyDeleteSo true.
ReplyDeleteYea that was a great one. Loved twilight zones but they always had that dark undertone to them, maybe thats what makes them interesting. My personal favorites are the one with the human in a world of pigs and the one where the bookwork breaks his glasses at the end.
ReplyDeleteHow I met your Mother.
ReplyDeleteSlapsgiving 2 and The Playbook
Same show: I quote this pretty liberally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc4TXCZGgXY
I just finished rewatching the whole series and all the special features on the original DVD release - I was shocked to see that something like half of the storylines were taken from the writers' personal experiences. George was, indeed, a Larry David avatar, but I was surprised by how many other writers added personal stuff.
ReplyDeleteYes. Easily my favorite episode.
ReplyDeleteI love that even in that shitty, terrible season, there are still a dozen phenomenal moments.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the office season 3 finale? That the job interview one?
ReplyDeleteYea, after learning that alot of it was based of real life experiences by the writers made me like it even more.
ReplyDeleteActually my favorite scene from that season is when Tim moves into the Taylor home, and he and Coach are playing ping pong. Coach just looks so happy to have another guy in the house to do guy stuff with.
ReplyDelete"Here you go, sorry it's not in packets. You need cream too?"
ReplyDelete"Um... no."
The Oz riot episode. Nothing else even comes close.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Meekin and to with Season 4 finale of the Wire. It's a shame that Season 5 was a bit of a letdown.
ReplyDeleteI loved Oz, and have seen everyone but no really stand out to me at this point. Honestly, I barely remember the riot episode except that its the season 1 finale
ReplyDeleteSeason 4 is the best season in an epic series, imo, so I think it was almost inevitable season 5 was gonna be a letdown. Same thing with homeland seasons 1 and 2
ReplyDeleteThe Wire is my favorite all-time show and I'll try to narrow down to one episode. I'll go with the one where Wallace was killed. That let the viewer know that anybody can get it whenever and to stop watching the show right now if that's going to be a problem.
ReplyDeleteAlmost went with Pale Moonlight... first time we ever saw a Starfleet captain do what was necessary instead of taking the easier moral high ground.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, one more. The episode of "Martin" when someone steals his cd player and they spoof "New Jack City". It turns out that Bruh-man took it and left Martin a note under the bathroom sink. Martin asks why he would leave a note there of all places and Bruh-man replies "I thought you would look there since I used all the toilet paper".
ReplyDeleteI would go with the marine biologist. The entire episode puts me in stitches everytime. When george shows the golf ball, I can never contain my laughter.
ReplyDeleteSouth park: Make Love not warcraft.
ReplyDeleteHouse: 3 stories
Breaking Bad: 1 minute
great scene, another one was when dangelo was teaching them how to play chess and how it related to the "game."
ReplyDeleteseason 4 kenard calling namand a gump ass mutha fucka is the funniest imo.
and i woukld love them to do a spin off of michael lee, i would be sooo down for that.
and who else is in favor of saul goodman getting his own spinoff which is in the works as we speak??
I know im in the minority, but I was not a fan of make love not warcraft. There were such better episodes IMO
ReplyDeleteGreat episode.
ReplyDeleteX Files - E.B.E.
ReplyDeleteI mean, its hard for me to pick a favorite episode from my favorite show, but Season 1 was so great and I felt this episode did the best with the Alien mythology
Lost: "The Long Con" season 2.
ReplyDeleteBSG: "Lay Down Your Burdens" parts 1 and 2 season 2
Sopranos: "Pine Barrens" season 3
Wire: "Hamsterdam" season 3
Friends: The One with the Embryos
ReplyDeleteThat 70s Show, though not an amazing show (fun, but not amazing) had its best episode with the Dine and Dash. I still laugh every time I see it.
I'm only about 1 3/4 seasons into the Wire, and my favorite scene right now has to be the one where they're investigating the apartment where the girl got shot, and do the entire scene only using variations of the word "fuck".
Buffy: Once More with Feeling!
ReplyDelete/thread
Scott's Tots literally had the wife and I both physically cringing. I've rarely had such a strong reaction to any show.
ReplyDeleteEven on repeat views it's hard to watch.
I don't have much. Media tends to go in one ear and out the other with me. I'll enjoy it in the moment but I never remember much.

ReplyDeleteThe Simpsons - Cape Feare
ReplyDeleteThe Office - Dinner Party
Just Shoot Me - Slow Donny (David Cross owns it here)
Friends - (not sure of the title. Early episode. Tit for tat- when someone is seen in the shower)
Seinfeld - The Betrayal (the backwards episode).
Happy Days - First appearance of Robin Williams Fonz vs. Mork
Having a hard time thinking of specific episodes for certain shows. Love Scrubs but can't come up with one episode.
"today will be a little different, as we're going to focus on our favorite episodes of shows, that may or may not be the finale."
ReplyDeleteWhich one is Life Time?
ReplyDeletemwc: the anthrax ep
ReplyDeletethey have to wait for the guy to die so they can use his aorta
ReplyDeleteHated the backwards seinfeld episode. One of their worst imo
ReplyDeleteThat crime boy I don't know line is from the Season 3 finale in fact.
ReplyDeleteFresh Prince - damn, there's so many it's hard to pinpoint one. I'd say maybe the Hex episode or the one where he tries to trick Kim Fields into having sex with him.
ReplyDeleteIt's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis
That 70s Show - Garage Sale, where Hyde makes the weed brownies
Seinfeld - Either The Pez Dispenser or The Comeback
For me, it would be "The Constant" from Lost.. had the perfect amount of romance, time travel and WTF moments. What more could a nerd like me ask for???
ReplyDeleteCorrection, I Don't know the rules of today.
ReplyDeleteCarry on.
The episode of the Sopranos when they finally whack Pussy!
ReplyDeleteUp stairs, fifth flo' :: holds up 4 fingers ::
ReplyDelete3 stories was realllly good for house, and my favorite South Park is probably critter Christmas.
ReplyDeleteWhat more could a nerd like me ask for???
ReplyDeleteA girlfriend?
Yeah, that's probably why The Pez Dispenser is my favorite episode. That whole part where he's all like "*I'm* breaking up with YOU!" consistently puts me in stitches.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and Jason Alexander realized that George was based off David when Larry told him the whole part in The Revenge where George quits his job and shows up the next day like nothing happened was something he actually did while working with SNL
ReplyDeleteI'll keep this to Star Trek:
ReplyDeleteTOS: Day of the Dove (narrowly over The Ultimate Computer and The Enterprise Incident)
TNG: Best of Both Worlds (Yesterday's Enterprise is the only episode to come close, although there's a lot of very good episodes below those two)
DS9: Favor the Bold/Sacrifice of Angels (With quite a few close contenders, Way of the Warrior and What You Leave Behind among them)
VOY: Year of Hell (Flashback's the only episode to come close, that series did NOT deserve seven seasons.)
ENT: In a Mirror Darkly (Several Season 3 and 4 episodes are in the running also.)
Yea, I enjoyed House throughout its entirety but they did have sone really awesome ones in the first few seasons...3 stories is one of them
ReplyDeleteSeason 4 has so many classic episodes. My favorite is probably the Blizzard one where Martin refuses to pay the electric bill and their stuck in the apartment with no food or heater. The shot when Cole comes back from the pizza place and is frozen solid just fucking kills me.
ReplyDeleteYea, makes me enjoy Costanza, and Curb your Enthusiasm much more. Griffin puts it well below saying that Costanza was basically a Larry David avatar.
ReplyDeleteTangent threadjack: just started watching Parks and Rec, fucking Ron Swanson might be my new second favorite sitcom character behind Costanza. Hilarious character
ReplyDeleteLove Swanson. There are these giant Swanson highlight reels on YouTube that are amazing.
ReplyDeleteScott tennerman must die is a good episode but a bit overrated. I can think of 10 better episodes like the 2009 economy episode, woodland critter Christmas, the f word, and awesome-o
ReplyDeleteTwilight Zone: The Monsters are Due on Maple Street
ReplyDeleteBreaking Bad: Half Measure
Dragonball Z Abridged: The Saiyan Formally Known as Vegeta
The Booth at the End: Our Deal Here is Done
South Park: Scott Tennormen Must Die
Home Movies: The Wizard's Baker
The one with Omar in the witness box for me. The way he pwns Levy is amazing.
ReplyDeleteClosely followed by the big Omar/Stringer/Mouzone standoff.
The Fly is a great episode.
ReplyDeleteI wondered if it was partially a homage to Hal from Malcolm in the Middle, too, as the obsession, the homemade swatted, etc, were all pure Hal at times...
Forgot to add- South Park Scott Tenorman Must Die
ReplyDeleteAwesome-O almost killed me with hyperventilation from laughing when I first saw it.
ReplyDeleteJust the bit where he's been meeting with the Hollywood execs, them gets asked if he's also a sex bot. Cuts away to outside the room and all you hear is LAME!
It only gets better. The show is amazing and just constantly finds new ways to top itself as the seasons go on. You know you're doing things right when Paul Rudd is your worst character.
ReplyDeleteDay of the Dove is an underrated good episode from the dregs of the third season. I'm glad you brought it up.
ReplyDeleteI love Favor the Bold. Chills with the crew reciting the poem on the bridge and Kira asking how it ends.
A, My Name is Alex is hilariously awful. I've always wanted to see some show spoof it.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 isn't shitty and terrible, it just has a subplot no one likes and ends on a transition episode, which isn't their fault.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to pick a favourite- I Think We Should Have Sex is terrific, as is the episode with Matt's dad. Any show where Matt and Coach have a heart to heart basically
How could I have forgotten to put MASH. Love that show. My favorites, outside of the ones listed, were the one where they went through all of the seasons (with Father Mulcahy has the garden). The other one is where they try and keep the guy alive through Christmas and the party for the orphans.
ReplyDeleteDBZ Abridged keeps getting progressively funnier. I suppose my favorite episode was 34
ReplyDeleteReally? Hadn't heard anything about a spin-off, but yeah count me in.
ReplyDeleteThere were so many great feuds and mini-feuds. Omar-Marlo being my favorite. That jail cell scene, mannnnnnnnnnnn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0K-tfJLiFE
ReplyDelete"...What he say about me? He use my name...in the street? Talk Muthaf----...."
Martin - I ain't payin' the five!
ReplyDeleteThe gang- Five hundred? Yeah that's a big increase
Martin - Nah man!
The gang- Five percent? That's still a lot!
Martin- Nah man! Five dollars
Bruh-man did you eat all the Thanksgiving dinner? Yeah and it was hittin' too....everything 'cept them raggly @$$ peas!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5w_atWfMdg
South Park: The Passion Of The Jew
ReplyDeleteMST3K: Manos: The Hands Of Fate/Hobgoblins/Werewolf (three way tie)
Breaking Bad: Any episode really would qualify
Larry Sanders: Hank's Night In The Sun
House would be either Three Stories or Resignation, although that could change, depending on my mood. There were a lot of excellent episodes from that series. Anything that involved House and Wilson going back and forth is tremendous.
ReplyDeleteNCIS- Truth or Consequences.
The Simpsons-The Way We Was
It's already a better show than the real DBZ was. And I'm a fan of the original.
ReplyDeleteWhat is DBZ Abridged?
ReplyDeleteInner Light is the best non-trek, trek episode if you ask me.
ReplyDeletehttp://teamfourstar.com/dbza-episodes/
ReplyDeleteThey take Dragonball Z, trim it down, and re-dub it as a joke. The first episode or two is sort of slow and leans too heavily on the "haha, we're dubbing over the dialogue as a joke!" humor, but it gets going really soon after that and gets REALLY good the second Vegeta shows up.
Don't know if serious... hoping not.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's evolved from simply being a parody of Dragon Ball Z to a show in itself, with its own mythology and running gags.
ReplyDeleteI want Ron Swanson to be the new Detective Munch. Because every series would be better if Ron Swanson showed up. Ron Swanson playing "Real American" with Nick Miller and Schmidt. Ron Swanson at the shooting range with Robin Scherbotsky. Ron Swanson helping Candice Flynn bust her brothers. Ron Swanson solving murders with Rick Castle. Tell me you wouldn't watch all of those.
ReplyDeleteIt's a faaaaaaake
ReplyDelete"I also left him with the distinct impression that should he try to leave the door would explode" "Tell me that's not true" "Its best not to focus on such minutia"
ReplyDeleteThree Stories is the best episode of House ever. EVER.
ReplyDeleteLove the softball episode. I've used the line, "So in conclusion, I hate you all. I thank no one but myself." more times than I can count.
ReplyDeleteI hated "Two Cathedrals". Martin Sheen yelling at the ceiling for ten minutes, and then an artificially drawn-out ending so they could have the season-ending cliffhanger. Man, that pissed me off.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. I thought it was a poor man's Office, but when I saw the brother from Step-Brothers was in it, I gave it a second look in like the middle of the seasons two years ago and fell in love, Netflixing the whole damn thing.
ReplyDeleteIt's fantastic.
Also, Aubrey Plaza. mmmmmmm..............
ReplyDeleteThe One Where Everyone Finds Out is good.... the One with All the Embryos is amazing.
ReplyDeleteBuffy: Hush would like a word.
ReplyDeleteSouth Park: the guitar hero epsiode. Because my roommate would play guitar hero FOREVER and then when watched that episode and he felt like such a loser afterwards that he never picked up the stupid controller again.
ReplyDeleteWill that word be about how those episodes are fighting for second place because of the existence of "The Body"?
ReplyDeleteYes, the job interview one. Jim finally asks Pam out, Jan is fired, Dwight interviews Bernard to be his assistant to the regional manager... how can you not love every minute of it?
ReplyDeleteALTHOUGH, another favorite of mine is the one with the water mark...
"Beer me that CD."
"Lord, beer me strength."
Sports Night, "Eli's Coming"
ReplyDeleteThe Sopranos, "College"
Community, "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons" or "Introductory Chaos Theory"
The pilot of "Freaks and Geeks"
I think my favorite Office episode is Office Olympics, because that's the one where everyone else in the office starts to show some personality. Though I have a soft spot for the one where Dwight takes Ryan to the beet farm to teach him how to be a salesman, because Mose in the "FEAR" shirt kills me every time.
ReplyDeleteProbably my favorite episode of television ever is the season four finale of Sons of Anarchy where Opie takes out Stahl. Just a masterful episode in every way
ReplyDeleteHuh, I knew they re-cut it, but I wasn't aware of the re-dubbing. Gotta check that out.
ReplyDeleteWord. Also, these threads made me realize how little tv I actually watch. I've never watched West Wing, The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad...
ReplyDeleteIt helps that Nick Offerman is basically 90 percent Ron Swanson in real life.
ReplyDeleteI went to college at University of Delaware and still have a few friends close that live in Wilmington. Was visiting for a wedding a few years ago and met her at a Wilmington bar. Real fucking funny in person, she said shes still got a house there, which is weird bc DE kinda sucks.
ReplyDeleteI got the shotgun, you got the briefcase
ReplyDeleteBreaking Bad - probably Ozymandius. I felt like I was going to get ulcers after watching that episode it was so stressful.
ReplyDeleteThe Scientology and Mormonism episodes of South Park are pretty great.
ReplyDeleteIMO the Grand Canyon episode of Sunny is the best and one of the funniest half hours of TV ever. Also liked the Jersey Shore ep.
ReplyDelete"RUM HAM!"
"Because every series would be better if Ron Swanson showed up." Cant agree with this enough
ReplyDeleteDoes your sister count? DOH!!!
ReplyDeleteI want a real half hour episode of "You're On with Ron." Just one.
ReplyDeleteTrying to hit some that haven't been mentioned:
ReplyDeleteBatman The Animated Series - For some reason the second Clayface episode (not counting the two parter) sticks with me. The ending with the rain and Clayface disolving into the ocean was pretty dark.
Night Court - The one where the new judge starts a prank war with Harry and Harry gives him the giant inflatable robe.
Get a Life - Zoo Animals on Wheels
And the voice work is really good, too. To the point where Vegeta, Piccolo, and Krillin's voices are always the DBZA voices in my head instead of the Funimation voices.
ReplyDeleteMy sister is dead. Asshole.
ReplyDelete(Note: Never had a sister)
So sorry to hear that.. If it makes you feel better I only had sex with her AFTER she was dead.. out of respect to you..
ReplyDeleteHa yea. The water mark one is great. Seasons 2-4 are just phenomenally entertaining
ReplyDelete"Just as you have planted this beet seed, ill plant my seed in you."
ReplyDeleteI love the tennormen one but like most of the Cartman centered ones. The one where he gets AIDS, Awesome-O, where he fakes tourettes, Cassa Bonita, etc etc etc.
ReplyDeleteI'll toss in the Batman ep where the villians are playing poker and complaining about how Batman is always foiling them.
ReplyDeleteThe Body is such a great episode, I've never seen a show take on the subject of death in a better way before or since. All the characters reacting in different ways. The rawness of the beginning. Subtle touches like Giles listening to the same song he and Joyce were listening to in Band Candy. It probably is the better episode. But the reason I rank OMWF ahead of it is because how much fun it is watching that episode. I know it'll sound cheesy but if I'm down I can put on OMWF and by the time I've Got A Theory is up I'm feeling better. True story, the day I was diagnosed with cancer I put in my Buffy Season Six DVD, watched OMWF and felt loads better.
ReplyDeleteDamn, i was even thinking "Oh, but the voices are so ingrained in my mind" so it's good to hear that.
ReplyDeleteHush is another great episode and an amazing achievement. Even though I know it's coming I still laugh at the stake/masterbating gag. But if I'm being honest, while I really enjoy that episode it doesn't crack my top ten Buffy episodes. That's saying something, such a great episode can still be surpassed by ten others. And as I said below in response to npp I just have so much fun watching OMWF. It not only met but surpassed and expectations I had for that episode. While I agree Hush deserved an Emmy nomination, I think OMWF deserved one just as much.
ReplyDeleteCant agree more. This and a real life movie of Simple Jack, from Tropic Thunder, are on my viewing wishlist.
ReplyDeleteLoved the Paul Rudd character.
ReplyDeleteSo is the one about the bikers. FAG!
ReplyDeleteThe Simpsons- "Summer Of 4 ft. 2" for story, "22 Short Films About Springfield" for comedy.
ReplyDeleteDoctor Who- "Dalek" for Eccleston, "The Waters Of Mars" for Tennant, "A Good Man Goes To War" for Smith.
Batman: TAS- "Almost Got 'Im".
Justice League- "Hereafter".
Avatar: The Last Airbender- "The Blind Bandit".
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia- "The Nightman Cometh".
Cowboy Bebop- "Bohemian Rhapsody".
TMNT '13- "It Came From The Depths".
South Park- "Super Best Friends" (really, though, the entirety of season 5).
The Venture Bros.: "Pinstripes & Poltergeists".
"IT SHOULD'VE BEEN YOU!"
ReplyDeleteHey, I haven't seen any of those either.
ReplyDeleteWe're cool because we're behind pop culturally!
Like The Office, P&R stumbled through a shitty first season before it found its own identity and became really good.
ReplyDeleteThat ending with Penny and Desmond on the phone ;_;
ReplyDeleteHeart of Ice is still fucking awesome. They made Mr. Freeze into a legit great villain.
ReplyDeleteFriends0 TOW No One's Ready. Makes me laugh my ass off every time.
ReplyDelete"Oh my God, you.....ROTTEN BOYS!"
Avatar: The Last Airbender- The Blind Bandit. Toph is one of the most badass characters in any show and plus, Mick Foley playing a Rock expy always slays me.
"THE BOULDER IS READY TO BURY YOU IN A ROCKALANCHE!"
My universe would implode if she and AJ were in the same room together.
ReplyDeleteI listed Blind Bandit in my post before I saw yours. Great minds think alike; fantastic debut for a great kickass character, plus Mick Foley as The Boulder.
ReplyDeleteThank God she left. Oof, that Ireland + Stahl arc really tested my patience. PUT MORE FLUTES IN THE INTRO SONG, I DON'T THINK WE UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE IRISH STUFF YET
ReplyDeletethat ep of the fresh prince where they get pulled over for driving too slow. also the one where they go to compton
ReplyDeleteI know, right?
ReplyDeletePicard gets the life he always wanted, only to have it torn away. Real heart breaking stuff.
ReplyDeleteThread hijack (kind of...) With the talk about finales and all, here's another potential question: which shows never got the PROPER finale?
ReplyDeleteHands down, I would say the original version of Match Game. The CBS version from 1973-79, or at least the syndie from 1979-1982, hosted by Gene Rayburn, should have been the party to end all parties. But both fizzled out. In fact, the only version of MG to have a definite conclusion was the Ross Shafer version from 1990, which was just a throwaway line about this being the last show and they'd be seen in syndication.
"I threw a rock at him!"
ReplyDeleteBut did you screw her brains out?
ReplyDeleteCoupling (UK) = Inferno (the dinner party one) and Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps (mostly for the first and only full scene with Jeff and Jane together, great unintended buildup). The latter could have been another example of an acceptable cliffhanger ending that would lead to a one-off special where Susan has the baby or something. Instead we got the just OK Jeff-less fourth series, though that did have Steve Moffat's FU to NBC.
ReplyDeleteAxl and Ian?
ReplyDelete(couldn't resist...just watched Barbed Wire City. Anyone else see it and if so, whatcha think?)
Match game was more important to the development of my sense of humor than I'd care to admit.
ReplyDeleteFor TOS ....nothing compares to city on the edge of forever, the arena, and doomsday machine.
ReplyDeleteCarnivale, Carnivale, Carnivale.
ReplyDelete"We used to date."
ReplyDelete"OHHHHHH"
