So this is a selfish one for me. I'm going to the Pats game tomorrow and would love to get some quality stories, tips, tricks, and ideas for making my Pats game adventure quality.
What are your sporting event dos and don'ts? Do you pregame? How do you pick up chicks at a game? What's the best way to be a quality fan?
I'm not intending on drinking for I gotta drive after, but fully intend to be adjourned to an herbal dimension by the start of the game.
Have at it, Blog Of Doom!

My bf and I have a good deal, he doesn't drink so i drive to the event, and indulge in drinking at the event and then he drives home. Works out pretty well for me. I don't really pick up chicks though, but I cheer for the home team as best I can while at the event.
ReplyDeleteThe way the Patsies' offense is sputtering, you might want to bring in a good book...
ReplyDeleteConsidering the amount of traffic you'll probably sit in after the game, a book isn't a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteTailgating is a MUST. Food and drink is crazy expensive in Gillette. What I've always done when heading down to Foxboro is usually show up at 9:30 for a 1 PM game and then plan on staying for at least two hours in the parking lot afterwards. Hope you have a grill.
ReplyDeleteStart out with a nice early tailgate and get some food in you, because concession stand lines suck.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest tip for anyone attending a sporting event is simple...engage in good natured ribbing with fans of the opponent, but don't cross the line into asshole.
As someone who has had excellent experiences in opposing stadiums (Cincinnati) and awful ones (Cleveland) I like to impress upon people that it really is just a game, and the road team's fans are paying their money just like you. Talk shit, but refrain from calling people's girlfriends and wives names, physical altercations, and destroying private property.
Fuck Cleveland.
As long as you never go to a Panthers home game you will be fine. It's the worst crowd in the league by far. This lady was so drunk once that she fell up the stairs. Those things are concrete. She got back up without spilling her beer, so there is that.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I really got nothing for you. Just try to have fun.
I've only been to 2 football games, 1 Jets and 1 Giants. Took the train to and from the Jets game so obviously no pre-gaming or anything. Drove to the Giants game and several of his chick friends (they weren't particularly attractive and were boring as anything).
ReplyDeleteDefinitely recommend tailgating. Like someone else said, get there a couple of hours early, bring a grill and just eat a bunch of stuff. Concession prices are ridiculous so eat up before the game. Maybe bring a football with you so you and your buds can toss it around. Feel free to socialize with other tailgate groups, almost everyone at a tailgate is in a cheery mood. Picking up chicks at a game is probably more difficult since they're usually with their significant others, boyfriends or fathers. If you happen to find a group of girls that are just womenz and not with any males, then give it a whirl. It's pretty much the same process as trying to pick them up at a bar except you don't have to buy them drinks. Maybe tease them on an inferior tailgate or something but don't get too mean.
Enjoy mate!
...don't wear a Jets jersey for starters.
ReplyDeleteSeriously I always make myself designated driver because I don't drink. I'm there to watch the game and anything else is secondary. The easiest time to bag a chick is after the game when they win because they're in a good mood.
As for pre-gaming, that is for my friends that want to drink and save a few bucks on food. I just chill. I'm going t catch a Steelers game in Pittsburgh eventually, but when I go to Giants stadium I don't go all dressed up because I want to avoid unnecessary drama.
I had eagles season tix for 5 years as a kid, and Bucs season tix for 2 so got pretty good at the football game scene. If you want to socialize and pick up chicks you DEFIENTLY want to tailgate. Bring extra booze, beers, a bottle or two of liquor, because we all know chicks like free booze. Im a cheap ass so would always sneak a flask into the game instead of paying 8 bucks a beer. Highly suggested
ReplyDeleteI love football but I have no desire to go to a game. The thought of driving there and driving back makes me want to jump out a window. I don't even want to go to BARS to watch games anymore. I'll stay at home with my 42" TV, thank you.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't feel like paying the 50 bucks to park, the train is a good option. There is one from Providence and one from Boston. You can park for free in Dedham or one of those lots. It brings you right to the stadium and most importantly--it's heated.
ReplyDeleteThe Patriots Hall of Fame is a must, but I don't think it is open to the public on gameday. Give yourself time to walk around the shops area. I haven't been to a game since that was built, but I've been in on an off day and it's a cool little area. Just walking around and seeing the various tailgate set-ups is fun in itself.
I second the idea of joking around with opposing fans, but keeping it light. Drunk fans can be real dicks and get more nasty than necessary.
This may be a no-brainer to some, but If you have to leave and return to your seat in the middle of a row, just wait until there is a break in the action to do so. People tend to get pissed having to stand-up for you as a play is unfolding. Hold off on the cursing if you see any kids around you.
I like the experience of going 90% due to the partying and socializing aspect of it. But yea, if Im not feeling like drinking or doing the tailgate thing, Ill most likely stay home. Between the redzone channel and the tv teclecasts, the actual viewing viewing experience is so much better on my couch.
ReplyDeleteDude so true about the Flask. The trick is to wear baggy jeans and stuff it into your underwear on the front. Security won't frisk you there.
ReplyDeleteHa yup.
ReplyDeleteYikes you know it's a special day in Boston when the wrestling PPV is the third most important sporting event.
ReplyDeleteOr buy those flasks that look like binoculars from Sharper Image or one of those catalogs.
ReplyDeleteGilette Stadium is awful. Impossible to park, parking is expensive and impossible to leave. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteAlso, you're there to watch the game. Why are you concerned about picking up chicks?
Forgot to mention-- Talk to people! You already have something in common- you are fans of the same team, or at least fans of football. I'm a natural introvert, but have found sporting events a good place to chat with strangers.
ReplyDeleteAll their PPVs, Raws, Smackdowns blur together. Nothing ever feels like an event. Just The Shield versus The Usos Part #762, etc. They need to slow down, space things out, build things up, something.
ReplyDeleteI miss when WWF/E ppvs were must see events.
ReplyDeleteI also miss watching WCW ppvs, no matter how bad they were.
ReplyDeleteWhat's funny is that the promotion is built around Triple H at the moment yet he's the one making cracks about how "Wrestler X never drew a dime"
ReplyDeleteIm not sure about wrestling events since theyre more sporadic but sports in miami just seem like a tough draw. Theres to much other awesome shit to do, that it makes sports a tougher draw then usual IMO.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think its stupid for Triple H to put down the roster like that. WWE should want the viewers to think these are the best wrestlers in the world. Essentially, Triple H is making digs at the smarks that 90% of the wrestling audience doesn't even understand. Remember how well that strategy worked for WCW under Vince Russo?
ReplyDeleteIm gonna spitball it here and say it because hes in his 20s and single. Thats typically a priority for guys in that situtation.
ReplyDeleteBut where are you gonna go with her if a pickup happens? The Port-A-Potty?
ReplyDeleteMake out while stuck in endless traffic on the way home?
ReplyDeleteHe's not going to a bar, he's going to a game. Watch the game.
ReplyDelete"Picking up chicks" doesnt always mean having sex with them that very minute.
ReplyDeleteWhats the harm of him trying to pick up girls if hes there?
ReplyDeleteAre there really that many single girls alone at a football game?
ReplyDeleteYeah, true. I had the biggest problem in college figuring out what "hooking up" meant. Couldn't tell if they were talking about meeting or having sex. Not that I did much of either.
ReplyDeleteNot a ton like going to a bar, but you can a frw numbers or hookup if you realky try. If he strikes out, he strikes out.
ReplyDeleteHe should watch the game instead of focusing on futile attempts to get ass. I don't know, I just hate when people go to games and never actually watch the game.
ReplyDeleteEven the various indys know to put your roster over as the best in the world, no matter how shitty their rosters may be
ReplyDeleteI hear ya. My philosophy is the opposite. If I really am interested in just the viewing experience, Ill watch it from my house. Think its just a better watch. Typically going to the games is more a social type of thing.
ReplyDeleteBecause when you're young and single picking up chicks is something that you're at least sort of trying to do almost anywhere that you happen to be.
ReplyDeleteI agree, so many good memories watching even the bad WCW shows.
ReplyDeleteHeck in the Cell is not a draw. Get right out of town. I was more excited to watch the NJPW stuff that got posted in the other thread just for something different. Orton and Bryan not getting bloody and taking lame back bumps on the pad outside the ring is just not appealing.
ReplyDeleteHHH in front of the camera is fucking poison to the build for a PPV.
ReplyDelete"You're not worth my time, Daniel Bryan. No one in the locker room is, because none of them are stars. The only stars I'd dirty my hands with are guys like Taker, Shawn, Brock, and a bunch of other people who aren't going to be on the show next week or on the PPV this Sunday! SO ANYWAY, ORDER THE PPV THIS SUNDAY."
His ability to appear to be the Smartest Guy in the Room at all times is doing serious damage to the credibility of the roster, and their ability to sell PPVs. Hell, at this point, PPVs aren't the "event" for me anymore, so much as the live threads for said PPVs here.
The only thing must-see about WWE PPVs these days are the live threads for them here.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, no one in a position to do anything about it seems to share in that assessment.
ReplyDeleteIt's getting to be almost exactly like WCW where you had guys like Nash burying the younger talent. That promotion also had the issue of the minor PPVs not having the top talent like Hogan, Sting, etc. so not everything felt important just like modern WWE where they are training their audience that things don't matter if Rock, Taker, Brock, etc. isn't around.
ReplyDeleteSite reporting that the Punk-Heyman feud WILL CONTINUE (Fink voice off).
ReplyDeleteStop stop, they're already dead!
I think the damage is already done. I like Bryan as a wrestler, but his character is pretty much a loser that is dead to me and I've heard the sentiment echoed elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThe constant losing, verbal burials by HHH/Steph, and even just his general look (the greasy hair and overly shaggy beard which can be fixed with some minor tweaks) aren't contributing to him becoming a star. Pointing these things out isn't helping him at all.
Maybe Curtis Axel can spend another month eating GTS's and clean pinfalls to CM Punk.
ReplyDeleteNew Paul Heyman Guy Tyson Kidd? Justin Gabriel? Dolph Ziggler?
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to pick - the roster is thinner than 1996 at this point.
I sent in the question, so first, thanks to Scott for answering!
ReplyDeleteI am actually going tonight, but yesterday a friend mentioned he might want to go. I didn't think we could find more tickets together as a group (of three), but you could find three together pretty much anywhere in the arena - and at every price level.
Don't be afraid to leave before the game is over. Nothing worse than the traffic out of a stadium. I'd bail around the 7:30 mark in the 4th quarter.
ReplyDeleteThey have too much time TV time to fill. 6 hours a week between Smackdown, Raw, and Main Event. This doesn't even include NXT or the recap shows.
ReplyDeleteWhite Thunder wants to see somebody die.
ReplyDeleteI don't get this. What's the point of going if you don't see the whole game? Better to stay late and wait out the traffic--if possible.
ReplyDelete
