Scott,
I can see your point about Daniel Bryan not getting a real run as the top guy recently due to numbers being down from Cena's runs (though it can be argued that "pushing" him while they are also acknowledging that he really isn't a main even guy is a self-fulfilling prophecy). However, using that logic, what is behind this plan to push Roman Reigns to the moon? He has a decent look and family ties, but he is nowhere near as seasoned as the other Shield guys, let alone some other guys on the roster who are waiting for a spot (like Antonio Cesaro, who has a ton of experience, can work the WWE style, and has abilities on the mic.)
Because that's how it works. They've decided that Reigns is The Guy, so everything will be reverse-engineered to make sure he gets over and looks good and none of the other excuses will be applied to him. Welcome to wrestling.
'He has a decent look and family ties.' THAT'S ALL YOU NEED.
ReplyDelete'he's nowhere near as seasoned.'
This is irrelevant. The look is all that matters. If they can wrestle as well, great.
Is he tall? Is he muscular? Does he have a full head of hair?
ReplyDeleteWhat is with this backlash against Reigns? There hasn't been a prospect this good this fast since Brock.
ReplyDeleteWas just gonna say that. I think it's because he's getting the push instead of Bryan. It's like scorned women syndrome, is "I can't have it, nobody can."
ReplyDeleteReigns is as close to "can't miss" as I can remember. I put him in the "brock, Rock, Orton" category as a prospect. Only time will tell how successful he is, but id be shocked if he's not headlining in 2 years.
ReplyDeleteSide tangent: I really hope wwe does a slow burn Shield breakup angle. I don't think they should even consider breaking them up until maybe Summerslam. They can still do some stuff with the shield/HHH/authority storyline.
Really build the drama/tension between Reigns and Ambrose for a few months before they blow their load on the actual breakup.
It isn't just a main event push, Reigns is the heir apparent. While I like all those guys mentioned above, if anyone thinks they are going to be the next Hogan, Rock, Austin or Cena is insane.
ReplyDeleteReign's floor is what everyone else's ceiling is. That is fucking scary.
Yea. I think they view him as they have Orton, Rock, and Brock when they were coming up. If he's not headlining everything in 2-3 years I'd be really surprised. He's definitely getting the torch after Cena
ReplyDeleteWhere is all the Reigns "can't miss" love coming from?
ReplyDeleteI mean he looks decent in the ring but when has he shown us he has that potential to take the next step? How many great matches has he had in the year he's been in the wwe? He hasn't even cut a promo of note.
I'm not against a push per se but don't get this talk of a can't miss project.
I'm fairly neutral about Reigns getting the push. He's got absolutely everything on paper so I get it, but he's so raw. It sucks that he's the least developed of the Shield and he'll be getting every break, but I won't resent the guy for that.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they don't have Reigns pull a Cena and start cutting lame babyface promos that are geared to 6 year olds.
ReplyDelete"I am no longer a Shield from injustice. I am a Shield from your stinky farts!" Reigns to his heel opponent of the month.
PS when the fuck did WWE become a Legacy-only company? It's even worse now than in the old protected territory days. Orton, Neidhart, two Rotundos, eleventy billion Anoa'is and I hear a rumor one of the wrestlers might be related to Jimmy Snuka.
ReplyDeleteMake a Difference Roman Reigns.
ReplyDeleteMight also be because people, especially people on the internet, are more prone to liking the other two shield guys? Rollins has the moveset and Ambrose is like custom made to be beloved for being such a creepy weirdo.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really similar to HHH's initial push in '99. He came back from injury as a midcard nobody and decided he was going to the main event. They pushed and pushed and pushed and then he finally got over. I really hope that's not where this is going, but it's starting to feel like it.
ReplyDeleteThe problem for me then and now is not that these guys are getting pushed. It's that you have talented guys that are already over getting pushed aside so they can push someone that fans don't really buy in that role at the time of the push.
Go down the list of what wwe likes.
ReplyDelete-look
-size
-athletic big guy
-charisma
-legacy (yea, this is kinda dumb but Vince LOVES this)
-potential good - great ring worker (he's not there yet but he's got the potential.
He's got all this in spades. No idea how his career turns out but he will get every opportunity.
Also, Reigns can steal Edge's "SPEAR!" chant, while HHH posts weekly diatribes on WWE.com where he rants for 40 minutes about how Edge couldn't work and was a C+ guy at best.
ReplyDeleteEven though he has a good spear it's just such a generic finisher these days. Seriously at least ten different ppl hv used it as their signature. He should use the leg drop!
ReplyDeleteI guess there's nothing better to do in Somoa than fuck, seriously the whole island everyone seems to be related to one another some how.
ReplyDeleteYou say this like it's not an enjoyable activity
ReplyDeleteMISSY: She-Wolf of the SS
ReplyDeleteDamn, that would've made for one hell of a fake movie poster.
Just going off something someone said earlier, I'd guess given this success (?) we should attempt to get other wrestlers to email Scott by calling them Nazis. But, then, I immediately realize that a search of "HHH Nazi" probably brings up a lot of wrestling boards.
ReplyDeleteor just maybe because Reigns looks like a star and Bryan looks like someone you could find in your friendly neighbourhood wet market.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of Fegelein's antics!
ReplyDeleteThought it had something to do with the famous voice actor. Welkergate = You mean Freddy didn't come up with all his traps on his own? It was really Shaggy?
ReplyDeleteGet ready for it!
ReplyDeleteWhoever becomes 'the face' for a while HAS to use said script.
That's why they pay the Hollywood writers. Sad, but true.
And this is why HHH's apparent Crockett love may not be a good thing totally. (Flair won feuds more than he lost, after all)
ReplyDeleteChanneling Jim Cornette: Yeah, the soldiers rode her from battle to battle!
ReplyDeleteAnd not only did he go over after the racist stuff...he did it with one Pedigree and a ten minute gap between the move and the pin. He just totally buried Booker when he could have at least given him a good showing that solidified him as an upper mid card/fill in main event guy.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty safe bet there, chief. You're betting he goes big or he flops. I mean, how could you be wrong?
ReplyDeleteI agree Antonio should be pushed a lot more. I suspect he will soon!
ReplyDeleteAs for Bryan, i think he's not been massively depushed. Since summerslam, i think he's been pinned once by Seth Rollins after Orton interfered in a tag match, and then pinned by Orton after Shawn superkicked him.
I'm not saying the booking has been great, but if you looked at how Punk/Mysterio/Edge were treated during their first runs at the 'top', i'd say he's been treated better than they were.
His jetpack push will continue until he forgets to shake someone's hand backstage or doesn't cut his hair the right way. Or Vince changes his mind because he had a nightmare about Reigns and a tutu.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, 2002-2003 was when WWE signed the "big" WCW guys only to finish them off...also the ones they had already. And you wonder why Sting won't go. Once they have UT go over him, WWE's victory is complete.
ReplyDeleteUnless you live in Texas, in which case you can thank your state legislature for closing down most of those facilities!
ReplyDeleteIt's not a question of if he has a full head of hair, but rather, does he use the right conditioner? Apparently Hunter seems to think so.
ReplyDeleteIt was an observation, not a prediction; I meant exactly what I said. I wouldn't be surprised if he went either way.
ReplyDeleteBut, he could land somewhere in the middle. He could end up being mediocre.
That's probably overstating things a little bit. Booker got a pretty good run as a midcard/upper midcard guy, then later a pretty fun title run as King Booker. They clearly wanted to push Steiner, but he was just useless. And Goldberg probably did himself in as much as anything with his attitude and clearly only being there for the money. Flair did well for himself, and I'm pretty sure Sting would too. I think Sting is just making an excuse so he doesn't have to say "I never wanted to work the WWE schedule," which is fine.
ReplyDeleteAlso probably worth saying that, as annoying as it was that the angle never had a payoff, it's not like it ultimately hurt anything. Angle got the strap right after and became a perpetual main event guy, and Trips moved on to a great match with Benoit and then the feud with Austin, all of which was great.
ReplyDeleteOk, the big difference is they are giving those gifts out of their own good will, not being asked to honor this holiday they don't celebrate.
ReplyDeleteThat spear is vicious. Having him as an ass-kicking babyface with that move seems like money to me
ReplyDeleteMeh. The majority would seem to agree. I just don't get it. Never have liked the move as a finisher for anyone.
ReplyDeleteBecause Reigns is BIGGER therefore BETTER than the other two.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it have a quote from Kevin Nash saying, "I'm probably the only wrestler that has never slept with Missy Hyatt?"
ReplyDeleteI also would rather see Kaitlyn without a shirt than Reigns.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it either. Also, thinking that Ambrose should be a bigger star than him is laughable.
ReplyDeleteCase in point: HHH. I'm not being funny or sarcastic; he was just nothing special but he worked with the guy who made the money (tm J. Cornette). I can't even work up the energy to hate the guy. He's just there.
ReplyDeleteDamn right.
ReplyDeleteHe can start out as the ass-kicking face and not have to worry about promo
ReplyDeleteDaniel Bryan wasn't created by WWE outside of the name. Roman Reigns went through their developmental system after almost no in-ring experience prior to that. It's kinds like he's their genetically engineered son. All the beloved indy guys will NEVER "the guy". That's also how it works with this company.
ReplyDeleteGreat. Now I'm picturing the genetic jackhammer and a bunch of Samoans whacking into a test tube. Thanks for that.
ReplyDeletePromo? We don't need no stinkin' promo.
ReplyDeleteI think the hope is that when Roman Reigns is finally "ready", he'll be like to Khal Drogo from GoT, this unstoppable badass who can beat the living fuck out of everybody but still retains the aura of a proud warrior that has a sense of nobility to him. But I think the fear is that he'll instead call to mind Crush during his Hawaiian Neon phase, where he's still promoted as super powerful and strong but offsets this by being devoted to the welfare of children and always maintaining a friendly aura about him. The scary thing is either one of these ways are likely; look at the state Sheamus ended up in if you need proof that this could happen.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the huge minority here but I haven't seen much out of Ambroses WWE run to make me think he's gonna be anything but a mid carder at best. Admittedly, I've only seen a little of his NXT amd indy stuff, and I know people rave about this. Going just on his wwe stint, he's average from what I've seen in the ring and his mic/promo work is overrated IMO (his facials seem over the top and a little goofy to me).
ReplyDeleteWhat I think is strange is how little, really, we've seen of Reigns at this point. The guy doesn't have a rich indy career to put it mildly, and he's only really wrestled in tag matches where everyone is pretty much in agreement that his partners carried the match. That doesn't mean Reigns is going to be awful when he finally gets the God Push, but it does mean that there's really no way of knowing how things will be. Compare to Cesaro; barring the horrific writing (never forget how that can kill ANYONE, no matter how beloved they are), all of us could see how he would perform on a main event level because we've seen his work and know what he can do.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird how in the world of wrestling, you can't copy the signature moves, let alone the finishing move, of another wrestler unless you are a member of the opposite sex or a midget.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Well said.
ReplyDeleteNever forget Manu! His entire stint in the WWE was largely devoted to grunting and secreting an ungodly amount of sweat.
ReplyDeleteAdd me to those saying Reigns seems to have everything needed. He's probably the first guy I've seen come along I can see being positioned in Cena's spot at the expense of Cena. At the very least he'll be the No. 2 super babyface like Batista was post-WM21 and Rock was to Austin. Where that leaves Sheamus when he comes back will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteWe'll know for certain if they hold off the coronation for WM31. They won't have done that for ten years by that time - and that fact alone suggests it's due. My guess is he demolishes Ambrose (and maybe Rollins) a la Orton-Rhodes-DiBiase at 30 and is groomed throughout the year like Cena was with the US belt in 04.
I guess the worst that could happen to Reigns is he becomestthis generation’s Nash. But I'm sure most wrestlers would be happy with his bank balance.
"Hey Seth! The only thing that will be Rollins tonight will be when I 'Rollins' all over your ass right here in Madison Square Garden!"
ReplyDelete(Cue 'Yes' chants)
Exactly the point. Unfortunately, I am unable to explain Manu.
ReplyDeleteI loved the 97 and 98 Starrcade reviews, classic Scott. WCW managed to blow it 2 years in a row.
ReplyDeleteI think when he breaks out of The Shield and starts doing promos on his own without any 'Hounds of Justice' filter your doubts will be assuaged. What's cool about these three coming in together and being pushed (for the most part) so well is that, to an extent, they'll always be connected and will be a factor in each other's character the same way HHH and Shawn or Flair and AA were whether or not their faction actually exists.
ReplyDeleteIf Reigns becomes the next generation's Hogan, I think Ambrose could be his Piper and maybe Rollins can be his Savage.
"Being in tag matches where his partners did all the work for a year" also describes Batista.
ReplyDeleteIt's a weird dynamic this company uses. They will use stuff like "not knowing how to work WWE style" and needing to "learn the business", but when they find a guy they are excited about they will push him no matter how green. In 2002 I was all for Kurt Angle being The Guy and replacing the Attitude Era guys with his awesomeness....but they went with a still very green Brock Lesnar. Brock ended up being awesome of course, but they have shown a tendency to put all the "experience" hyperbole aside when a Lesnar, Lashley, Batista, Reigns, etc come along. Not right or wrong, just an observation
ReplyDeleteGood point about them being intertwined. Having that relationship with others always adds a character dimension.
ReplyDeleteYea, I'll give Ambrose the benefit of the doubt since his indy stuff is generally highly regarded. Just haven't seen alot out of him in his wwe run...Sure some of that is wwe limiting what he does and says.
I think it's as simple as this: Reigns is a guy they can claim as "theirs", while Punk, Bryan, and Cesaro will forever be viewed by this company as "indy guys". All the "respect for the business", "paying your dues", etc is horseshit hyperbole they always use as a company line. If they really meant it, then it would be the indy types who would fit that description to a tee.
ReplyDeleteWhen AJ finally turns on Tamina (or vice versa) this HAS to happen.
ReplyDeleteThey're cheaper than kids.
ReplyDeleteBut pulling out is free!
THANKS OBAMA.
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes, it does. In glorious hi-def, with unlimited instant replays.
ReplyDeleteAmbrose is an upper-midcard guy
ReplyDeleteGoldberg didnt and it worked out fine for him
ReplyDeleteAn email from Missy Hyatt.
ReplyDelete30 years ago, before most of the BODers were even born, this would have been awesome. Scott would have had some for realz street cred for that.
Of course email didn't exist 30 years ago.
They do long-term, but it's with stuff like Rock-Cena, HHH-Lesnar, etc
ReplyDeleteIndeed. For a time.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't being facetious, though I was making a reference I find amusing. He can get over without mic skills, but he has to be able to cut a decent promo for long term success...in my opinion.
They do that though. Lesnar, Lashley, Batista, Orton were all pretty green
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dougie. Edge never came across as more pathetic than when he tried to get people chanting "SPEAR". If the WWE was capable of subtlety I would've credited them for a very slow burn turn, but he just really wasn't over @ the time.
ReplyDeleteI think those two statements you used are just examples of propaganda they use when they don't like a guys look or think he's lacking something.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I saw him as "can't miss" the moment they had the first Shield sit-down interview with Cole. Ambrose instantly came across as intriguing in a good way like a great character actor. Rollins came across as eager and hard working but maybe just not right, like a star in a middlingly successful TV drama. Reigns didn't say nearly anything and looked like a movie star.
ReplyDeleteAs has been said he's got the Samoan heritage, which McMahon always had a soft spot for, alongside the incredible physique which, for obvious genetic reasons, most of his relatives don't have. He's quick and young and ridiculously good looking. That guy could be stuck in the middle of a desert in the morning and I'd be shocked if he wasn't in a bed with two beautiful women by the evening.
He never really got the chance for an extended Raw run as THE guy and everyone thought it was over already after 19. Such a weird career path, I wish he would have come along sooner.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna troll some of you with the next what if..."What if Daniel Bryans parents were both 5 inches taller?"
ReplyDeleteI kid I kid
I view these as two separate things; I'd push the hell out of Reigns myself, and I say this as someone with a Kevin Sullivan build. What puzzles me about Bryan is that crowds are shouting for him and his merch seems to be selling, yet they're not even hotshotting him.
ReplyDeleteThe most logical answer is that they're always looking beyond their current fan base. They already have the fans who cheer for Bryan and want his merchandise. And those fans have proven that they'll stick by the guy no matter how many times the WWE stalls his push.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a non-fan going to think when he's flipping channels and gives RAW a momentary glance if he sees Roman Reigns holding the title vs. if he sees Daniel Bryan holding the title. Bryan is the better man in almost every respect, but it takes a little bit of inoculation before one is inundated by the cult of Bryan, while Reigns makes sense right away.
It makes sense as an appeal to a wider audience, but it's off-putting to the fans who currently support the company. It also place those fans in a no win situation. Sticking by Bryan through thick and thin means you're also sticking by the WWE by continuing to patronize its product. And if you "vote with your wallet" and simply stop watching and buying, well then you're done watching Bryan's matches altogether.
We, the fans, are really hurt by the lack of feasible alternatives. Even if you can appreciate TNA or ROH (or any other indie) as a niche, you're still wanting of the benefits a WCW used to provide by giving guys like Bryan and Cesaro (think Ricky Steamboat and Rick Rude) the opportunity to achieve the level of success they deserve in different pastures. Perhaps what we should be cheering for is the WWE to mismanage its business to such a mind-boggling level of folly (3 year long Great Kahli title reign, massive promotion behind a Cena Sings the Blues album, letting Michael Cimino direct the next WWE Films production with an unlimited budget) that the empire crumbles and the indies are able to grow to territories once more.
That's because you forgot to add WWE in there. They want "respect for the WWE business" and "paying your WWE dues".
ReplyDeleteYeah, you're talking about angles involving established names. I was talking about pushing new guys into the main event.
ReplyDeleteWatch, one he turns face and the push begins they will namecheck his relation to The Rock more times per match than Cole says "vintage" a month. You think Tamina was bad? Sheeeeiiiiiit...
ReplyDeleteYeah. At some WrestleMania in the future you're definitely going to see Reigns and Rock tag teaming.
ReplyDeleteThe Reign of Reigns.
ReplyDeleteBOOK IT.
THANKS RICK PERRY
ReplyDelete"Roman, good to see you! Come on in. Listen, we've been discussing what your character is missing and we've finally figured it out: cross dressing. Contact the costuming department with your measurements."
ReplyDeleteI mean, it worked for Saturn, right?
ReplyDeleteHe's not vegan.
ReplyDeleteI have zero issues with the impending Reigns push. Whereas a push like that of Sheamus came out of nowhere, at least Reigns has already been legitimized by his presence as the enforcer in a very over, relatively well-protected group like The Shield. I know we all wish Daniel Bryan won more matches, but Roman Reigns getting a big singles push is not the problem with WWE. Hopefully, it's part of the solution...
ReplyDeleteDaniel Bryan is better wrestler than roman reigns. You'd have to have the genetic allotment of corky from life goes on to not think that. I thought the wwe was a wrestling company but as long as they have people that tune it for the "look" and "body" of other men then I guess pushing ambitious Chippendale dancers is a solid business plan. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThis (fat) guy gets it!
ReplyDeleteThe craziest thing about Vince is that his latent homosexuality and fetish for big muscles on men isn't even one of the top 3 weirdest things about him.
ReplyDeleteBut that comes after sitting through months of terrible tv. They don't have the Rock around this time to make it worth it.
ReplyDeleteBy the way sheamus, the dude who over half this blog shit on because he's supposedly hhh's buddy (even though hhh buried him too) is a waaaaaay better worker and he's better on the mic than roman reigns. Any mystique or charisma he has is a rub from Ambrose and Rollins. Sorry guys, sheamus is better than regins. The only difference to the iwc is reigns has tricked you into thinking he has Indy cred while Sheamus had hhh stink on him.
ReplyDeleteYeah, "The Look" has always been a bullshit metric for me. You can train fans to pop for any look.
ReplyDeleteThey also appear to be going the Batista route with him which is far more effective than just throwing him out there like they did with Sheamus, I will admit.
ReplyDeleteSo how is Triple H the mastermind behind this scheme if the brass had planned for him to basically be the perennial champion? That's how others paint it and blame him personally for it.
ReplyDeleteSee, now ever time I see a topic on here about "Reigns", my first thought is "Luther Reigns is back!".
ReplyDeleteI'm probably not who they're marketing to.
So there must be a ton of guys on here that would rather pay to see a cheick Kongo fight than a Jon Jones fight. I know Vince lives in the past and is probably in the shit in his diapers phase of his life but in 2013 no one equates muscles with toughness. Bobby building is a joke now a days like zubaz pants and 80's action movies.
ReplyDeleteI have less of an issue with the Booker T thing then most other shit, why I left it out of the original comment.
ReplyDeleteThe issue wasn't him going over...it was the build that played off racism. He probably had 100% creative control at this point. I don't know if he suggested the build or it was suggested to him but it shouldn't have happened either way.
I would actually. I'm a huge Kongo fan.
ReplyDeleteI hate to break it to you, but WWE hasn't been a "wrestling" company since 1984. Even when it was *called* a wrestling company, it wasn't actually.
ReplyDeleteYeah...I know
ReplyDeleteGood point. They haven't done a wrestling match in 29 years.
ReplyDeleteI always liked Luther Reigns for the sole reason that his name is a full sentence. I suppose that works for Roman as well... "Roman reigns, yes he does."
ReplyDeleteI think you're EXACTLY who they're marketing to.
ReplyDeleteBut who will fans pay to see? I could care less who gets pops. Who have been the big moneymakers?
ReplyDelete* Hogan
* Austin
* Rock (?)
* Cena
If I'm running a business, I'll probably go to the template that gets me the money. The failure of Bryan to make money sort of proves that point, I'd think.
Roman Reigns? More like Roman Showers.
ReplyDeleteVince: "We'll rename your character! I'm thinking Puke-A-Hontas!"
You know what I mean. Wrestling matches all over the place, sure - however it has always been far more "theatre" than wrestling since Rock 'N Wrestling, with it edging closer to that each year that has passed since then. Whether you are angry at that fact or not will not change its status as a fact.
ReplyDeleteI love people are quick to point out shit like, "hey man, the wwe isn't a wrestling company!"
ReplyDeleteSo what product are they selling? The rock vs cena sing off is what made all the money in 2012? Some people are just dumb enough to slurp up whatever shit they get fed. Hey Vince says its an entertainment company and theirs 2 billion fans and I'm a star for watching and its not wrestling! Is there a lower form of life than someone who watches the wwe not for the wrestling? Lol do they like brad Maddox acting? I guess in a world where more people eat at McDonalds than the french laundry what can you expect
I'm guessing she is the type that has a Google alert set up for her name and that's how she discovered the comment. Lots of people do that nowadays.
ReplyDeleteWe can't have the title of Barnard Gumble's award-winning short film associated with this nonsense.
ReplyDeleteTwo guys I work with
ReplyDeleteOne is six foot obsessed with lifting
One is 5"8 pretty lean and is pretty successful on an amateur level in MMA and grappling tournaments, pretty much on the verge of going pro.
Big guy looks exhausted after a few hours work and sweats like a child molester in a playground. He spends hours doing weights and looks in worse shape then I do by the end of the day, I am quite good at street fighter 4 just to classify where my fitness level is.
Dean Ambrose: Mediocre Golfer
ReplyDeleteIt's like movies and music. Record companies would much rather have someone marketable like Rihanna on their payroll then Susan Boya (no, I'm not comparing Bryan to Susan Boyle, just an example) even if she is a better singer. You'll collectively make more money and be more commercially relevant with Rihanna then you would with Boyle
ReplyDeleteI liked this because of the SF4 reference!!!
ReplyDeleteELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL FUERRRRRRRRRRTE~!
Only if Barry Darsow manages.
ReplyDeleteGolden showers?
ReplyDeleteYou're purely speculative here, but if you're right, I'll give you a golf clap.
ReplyDeleteIf you take away the wrestling, Raw is legit the worst TV show in the history of the medium and it's not even close.
ReplyDeleteHuh? The Mr. Olympia comeptition is as big as its ever been, the supplement industry makes billions peddling their bullshit about getting huge, and The Rock is practically twice the size today as he was back when he was an actual wrestler. If you think bodybuilding is out, you're mistaken.
ReplyDeleteSide note: I don't agree with it, but zubaz are making a comeback. http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=29933470&parentid=M_BOTTOMS
Nobody is saying the Reigns is better than Sheamus right now, he isn't. Also nobody thinks he has indy cred. Also nobody thinks indy cred means anything.
ReplyDeleteI don't get how Hogan had "The Look." He was a bloated, balding, orange mass of crazy that already looked like he was hitting middle age when he was at his peak. He looked different, yes, but if a guy came along tomorrow who looked like Hogan he wouldn't be given a second glance by WWE. "The Look" WWE goes for singles out fitness models and conventionally attractive people. Hogan was neither of those things.
ReplyDeleteThat last sentence should be your new catch-phrase.
ReplyDeleteA variety show. No seriously, that's how they view it.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.gerweck.net/2012/08/02/vince-mcmahon-says-raw-and-smackdown-are-variety-shows/comment-page-1/
Kind of a shitty source, but I remember this when it happened a while back during one of their conference calls. They don't view their programming as wrestling, they view is as something like SNL.
Especially the "special belt" Q.
ReplyDeleteI wait with bated breath.
A lot of opinions get tossed around on here but that is a factual statement.
ReplyDeleteRoman Reigns is going to spear Daniel Bryan back to ROH, and Triple H is going to stand over Bryan's unconscious body and start a YES! chant. Because Triple H hates the internet geeks.
ReplyDeleteSomebody make me a meme to back me up.
Hogan drew money before coming to WWE, Vince had to be beaten over the head with Austin's popularity, the Rock was shat on for years before catching fire and Cena was midcard foddder that caught on. Those four guys don't fit a neat template. Each is unique, as is Bryan. Reigns may be as well; we don't know at this juncture.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if it's Bryan or Reigns as much as if Cena gets replaced by the new top guy. Wrestling will not enter a new boom period under Cena, and that's the only way my WWE stock gets above $15/share.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, LUTHER Reigns. So THAT'S why Roman is second generation!
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy that most of the shareholders are likely not smart/don't give a shit about the WWE product... that'll be the greatest shield (no pun intended) to the stock price IMO.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the minute by minute ratings when stuff like Miz TV, Maddox, and any other skit stuff is on.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Rhyno's last name IS Reigns. They never told us....so THAT'S why Roman is second generation!
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, Reigns looks like a Superstar. Bryan, Ambrose and particularly Rollins don't. Can you picture any of those guys beating Big Show or Orton? Not sure I would. My son certainly doesn't. (But then, he doesn't like Bryan so he's probably biased. )
ReplyDeleteI know I'm new to the WWE Universe, I just started watching on July with my 6 year old. So forgive me for not knowing the back story...but what's the problem with Cena? My son and I love the guy. He puts on a good fight and is fun to listen to. What don't I know about the guy?
ReplyDelete? What is the problem with Raw? I have a great time with it and my son LOVES it. He likes the wrestling more than I do, but he still thinks its real so its kinda fun to watch his enjoyment. I'm not as into the wrestling...I think its hard to get into but I'm probably not knowledgeable enough about it. But I get to enjoy the funny bits and the hot women. The stories are pretty cool too. What am I missing?
ReplyDeleteYou do realize you're on a blog where many of the posters are only half-joking when they make quips about masturbating to workrate, right?
ReplyDeleteStill trying to learn about the show...can you tell me who HBK and Benoit are? Can I find them on YouTube or is there a copyright issue?
ReplyDeleteHe's been doing the same act since before your child was born. It's not so much hatred as familiarity breeding contempt.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's always nice to hear from newer fans, a reminder that while we may be vocal, we are still a minority. And unlike in politics, WWE doesn't usually pander to the vocal minority.
Reigns looks like a beast, so he's fun to watch. Looks like he KILLS people with that spear. And did you see him power bomb Big Show?? How the hell did he do that? Kinda awesome.
ReplyDeleteHBK: Shawn Michaels
ReplyDeleteBenoit: Chris Benoit... you might want to stay away from him. He's infamous, in the REALLY bad way.
Right? I thought I was alone because I'm still learning about the shows and the Superstars.
ReplyDeleteNovember was talking about how people don't equate muscle with toughness so I posted how a big jacked guy at work was a bit out of shape despite this and also mentioned how a relatively small guy, also at work, is accomplished at man. To be fair i rushed this, as my tiny phone makes using disquss increasingly difficult as posts get longer, so sorry it wasn't clearer.
ReplyDeleteAlthough one thing in common with all 4 of them is that they were all over 6 feet tall, thus well above average height, and in generally great shape. I'm not saying that's the only thing (obv there are other criteria) but that's the extent of "The Look" I was talking about.
ReplyDeleteSee my above reply to Biscuit! - that's more what I meant.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny...I don't think I'd watch or let my kid watch if it were a wrestling show. Its a show that just happens to have Superstars on it doing wrestling moves. I think that makes it much more interesting than just wrestling.
ReplyDeleteAnd on this note... you're honestly either on the wrong site or trolling.
ReplyDeleteBetter Roman Reigns than Ryback.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing more arousing then a crisp perfectly executed belly to back suplex.
ReplyDeleteThanks man. I dunno, it is hard for me to speak because I haven't been watching him for 6 years, but I think he's pretty great. Just fun to watch, has a great build. He looks like a Superstar! (Really excited about the unification match with Orton. Gonna be a hell of a show. The kid is rooting for Cena, but I gotta admot I'm pulling for Orton...that guy is kinda bad ass) What do you guys think of Orton?
ReplyDeleteWhat are the Top 3?
ReplyDeleteNo I didn't know that. Just heard this is a great reputable website for WWE talk. What is work rate?
ReplyDeleteWell, there was that time he made Trish Status get on her hands and knees and bark like a dog on national TV.
ReplyDeleteIf "the likelihood that he has tried to sleep, or actually slept with, his daughter" not in the top three, it's an illegitimate list. Pun intended.
ReplyDeleteThanks, yeah he's the guy from the Hell in the Cell match! Will look up his stuff. Benoit not kid friendly?
ReplyDeleteYou're trying too hard now.
ReplyDeleteDid Missy Hyatt tell you that?
ReplyDeleteYou shut your goddamn mouth!
ReplyDeleteLook man, if I'm breaking any rules or making some sort of faux pas, let me know, i might learn something. But do you have to be a jerk about it?
ReplyDeleteJust ask Taz.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I remember how Jim Ross was talking to Austin on his podcast and saying how the young guys today don't stand up for themselves, try to stand out, etc. What he fails to realize that when guys like Punk and Bryan do so and drive the fans wild, they get de-pushed. So why should wrestlers even bother?
ReplyDeleteSerious tip to help you out...lots of snark gets tossed around here. It's mostly all in fun. Don't take offense
ReplyDeleteWhy would I take the word of a Nazi?
ReplyDeleteRyback. Seriously...WTF?
ReplyDeleteSigh...not looking forward to Smilin' Roman...
ReplyDeleteLook man, I don't know what your problem is, but how about I avoid you and you avoid me? I'm trying to learn more to have more fun with my kid. Why do you have a problem with that?
ReplyDeleteWas Manu really that bad? I don't think he ever really even got a chance. Can't remember any of his matches.
ReplyDeleteThey better not cut Reigns' hair. That's some silky shit right there.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with Cesaro's leg bands?
ReplyDeleteOh OK. Cool. Thanks man. When in new territory I try to respect local customs, still learning yours.
ReplyDeleteHas Roman had any real singles matches yet?
ReplyDeleteAJ is an awesome bumper.
ReplyDeleteBy all means then, sir; I would like to refer you to any thread involving Jesse Baker.
ReplyDeleteEdge was a terrible babyface.
ReplyDeleteLol. Hes a great representation of the BoD!
ReplyDeleteHe has some nice tattoos.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that's all I've got.
Oh he was very kid friendly. He really loved wrestling with them, especially his own.
ReplyDeleteSure is catchy.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the bear skin rug should be somewhere on this list. Not Top 3, but definitely Top 5.
ReplyDelete(wants to laugh, sigh, and cry all at once.)
ReplyDeleteHe didn't discriminate.
ReplyDeleteHave you downloaded the WWE app? Do you need instructions on how to do it?
ReplyDeleteIf you're trying to find stuff your kid will like...JOHN CENA. ALL JOHN CENA
ReplyDeleteHasn't HHH been on the booking committee since 1997?
ReplyDelete8.0
ReplyDeleteAlso, to be fair to Vince, I don't think he's a latent homosexual. I think he's a pansexual, which is Tumblr-speak for willing to fuck anything that moves. The numerous sexual harassment lawsuits and accusations should be evidence enough of that.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point, I always forget about the angle because I wasn't really watching at the time. I just never bought Booker as a real main event guy. Sure, he's a 5-time WCW champ, but only because he was the only one left, basically.
ReplyDeleteU got trolled I think bro
ReplyDeleteDude this is an obvious troll gimmick
ReplyDeleteThere's a Rob Feinstein joke here but I'll leave that for Pat Patterson Prolapsed, or someone else
ReplyDeleteTrolls only exist if we acknowledge them as trolls. If we treat them as people, then they become like Jesse Baker. I choose to live my life in the latter of those two worlds. It's so much more wacky.
ReplyDelete... I figured it out fairly quickly. I'm willing to let one (or two) "suspicious" posts get fair answers...
ReplyDelete...but being "only interested since July" and calling Missy Hyatt a Nazi do not add up, IMO.
Lulz ur getting trolled
ReplyDeleteYou've won the night below.
ReplyDeleteYou think so? I thought it was legit but my blog experience is strictly this one. If so he got me
ReplyDeleteI refuse to believe this is true, because all children like Daniel Bryan. And that's the bottom line because Stone Crusher said so.
