Seriously. Not to play Dougie here, but it's AWFULLY easy to report stuff by prefacing it with, "yeah, but WWE will change their minds in a week." All he has to do is report something that's marginally possible. If it happens, he got the scoop. If it doesn't, it's not that HE was reporting anything wrong, it's that WWE changed their minds.
Said it in the live thread but I couldn't have been more underwhelmed by the way they announced Batistas return. I get they want to promote him to pop a rating but do it in a meaningful segment in a meaningful way.
They have 5 fucking authority figures, you can't do the old authority figure gimmick of "look who I just signed" or some derivative of this?
Isn't that a sad picture of the state of things though? That they can only market people as legit draws AFTER their prime is over and no one remembers how shitty their original run actually was? Maybe they should, I dunno... Push somebody who isn't shitty.
The honest answer is I'm pretty available Mondays to bitch about stuff on the web. It's the other 6 days a week where I'm intermittently capable of being around to write posts and bolster threads.
They should've taken the battle for Christmas one step further by having, Jon Stewart in Good Santa's conrner, and Megyn Kelly in Bad Santa's corner. They would've got a 15.0 rating FOR SURE!
That's a reasonable argument, and certainly I was entertained tonight. All I meant was that this was more of a stand-alone episode, and if you were on vacation and missed this show, you could pick up again next week and literally still be on track with every single story.
Crazy theory time: This is totally not going to happen but the seven slashes on Bray's shirt made me think of Dustin's old shitty Se7en gimmick from WCW and how interesting it would be to make him their greater power. Dustin is hitting probably the best stride of his career and if they are intent on having him put Cody over making him a big heel would be a meaningful way to do it.
Like I said, not gonna happen but this is what happens when you've been watching wrestling for too long
I don't even watch anymore, and I can book better than the E can Unrealistic WrestleMania 30 card Main Event Hulk Hogan vs. John Cena -- Pay Hogan $20 million to put Cena over and retire. But also book it where Hogan kicks out of Cena's finisher three times. Because of Hogan's inability to really wrestle anymore, focus on Big Show being Hogan's bodyguard and buddy. Also bring Brutus Beefcake, Hacksaw Duggan, and Hillbilly Jim as lumberjacks. Undertaker Match The Undertaker vs. Kane Brock Lesnar vs. Batista Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara - Battle of the masks Cody vs. Dustin Dolph Zigeler vs. Dolph Lungren Carl Weathers appearance The other guys I don't care about respectfully.
I would think that the whole "Cena against someone" and "HHH vs. Vince's Guy" thing are probably one and the same? HHH vs. Cena (as Vince's avatar) for control of the known universe or whatever?
I could maybe MAYBE see Reigns doing it if they had started the build for it earlier but starting now? No buys from me; ditto with Cody.
The only way a Rumble winner works is if it's a guy that Vince is going to push before, during, and after. Daniel Bryan makes sense logically to win so he can triumph after months of getting his ass kicked but it wouldn't be Austin winning the Rumble, it'd be Rey. I'd rather them give it to Batista and let them push their big event rather than waste it on someone they clearly don't to push.
I think too often we get caught up on the novelty/importance of certain things, like winning the Rumble for example, and forget that in the current climate, winning the Rumble means dick all. Still a great event, the only PPV I'm guaranteed to watch traditionally, but being the winner really means nothing unless they want it to mean something. (See: Mysterio, Rey)
Del Rio won it and watched his career fizzle immediately because they didn't want to push him. Hell, even when they want to push someone, you get Sheamus beating Del Rio 1000x times over the course of a few months and then losing cleanly to Big Show.
So as Stan said, might as well give it to Batista and have it be a big deal and a big match and then go back to the norm the following month.
As I mentioned before too there's no guarantee that a Bryan/HBK match would be the greatest thing ever. Any guy on any night can have an off night. You'd have Shawn coming back 4 years later. What's to say there wouldn't be ring rust?
So I'm with you. Stay retired Shawn and hold on to something many wrestlers never get. That PERFECT ending and actually keeping your word.
I could see it. Wrestlemania 29 with Brock vs. Taker as a special attraction underneath a Punk-Cena Ironman or something. Nothing about that show needed a HHH match.

ReplyDeleteIf Bob Backlund and Jonathan Taylor Thomas finish their chess game early enough, Punk and Bryan can borrow their board.
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint...why aernt these longer? I need some more HHH title footage in my life!
ReplyDeleteIt depends what "Match of the year" and "top match" are supposed to mean. Do they refer to match quality? Match importance? Something else?
ReplyDeleteRock/Hogan was match of the year in 2002, but it wasn't even in the top 100 best technical matches of the year.
Would be ironic if they were born on Easter.
ReplyDeleteI am very excited for this Andy PG week, and may bust out my Graphic Design skills to make a logo because I'm feeling feisty.

Didn't you retire?
ReplyDeleteIs Maddox still a thing?
ReplyDeleteHow can we miss you if you never leave?

ReplyDeleteJust like Larry King.
ReplyDeleteThey should've taken the battle for Christmas one step further by having, Jon Stewart in Good Santa's conrner, and Megyn Kelly in Bad Santa's corner. They would've got a 15.0 rating FOR SURE!
ReplyDeleteAnyone notice Ziggler's tights said "over it"? Has he had this on there before? It looked like it was "written" in tape (over something else)
ReplyDeleteI disagree with "didn't miss anything" since there were two long, good matches, and ultimately a good wrestling show is about good wrestling matches.
ReplyDeleteI vote for WrestleMania 19. Stacked card, and I'd like to read a stellar AndyPG review for that one.
ReplyDeleteThat's a reasonable argument, and certainly I was entertained tonight. All I meant was that this was more of a stand-alone episode, and if you were on vacation and missed this show, you could pick up again next week and literally still be on track with every single story.
ReplyDeleteGood call. Or a few of the Summerslams that scott never reviewed.

Noticed it that last few weeks... His star fell
ReplyDeleteSo fast. Really a shame.
Its a saying that hes been using for about a year.
ReplyDeleteTHREADJACK!~
ReplyDeleteWhich match would be bigger for Wrestlemania XXX: Cena/Mayweather, Lesnar/Mayweather, or Taker/Mayweather?
They've been trolling us all year. It's actually pretty cool when you think about it.
ReplyDeleteBryan didn't draw shit in b ppvs, what do you expect for the biggest show of the year when he's in the main event?
ReplyDeleteWell, I know what I'll be doing when I get to work today!
ReplyDeleteHa, you can understand why it feels like more. I think Orton has three of those now.
ReplyDeleteThat's the main event? On his card that would be 4th from the top and might curtain-jerk
ReplyDeleteI don't even watch anymore, and I can book better than the E can
ReplyDeleteUnrealistic WrestleMania 30 card
Main Event
Hulk Hogan vs. John Cena -- Pay Hogan $20 million to put Cena over and retire. But also book it where Hogan kicks out of Cena's finisher three times. Undertaker Match
The Undertaker vs. Kane
Brock Lesnar vs. Batista
Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara - Battle of the masks
Cody vs. Dustin
Dolph Zigeler vs. Dolph Lungren
Carl Weathers appearance
The other guys I don't care about respectfully.
I would think that the whole "Cena against someone" and "HHH vs. Vince's Guy" thing are probably one and the same? HHH vs. Cena (as Vince's avatar) for control of the known universe or whatever?
ReplyDeleteI wish someone from WWE production/archives would tap Vince on the shoulder and remind him about the other PPV matches between Taker and Brock.
ReplyDeleteThis explained it all in a nutshell. Bravo, sir
ReplyDeleteRock as Vince's Guy would not be the worst thing.
ReplyDeleteBut on that same token why does he need the Rumble? Batista could easily be inserted into the title picture as Vince's guy.
ReplyDeleteI could maybe MAYBE see Reigns doing it if they had started the build for it earlier but starting now? No buys from me; ditto with Cody.

Am I the only one that would be down for Lesnar vs Bryan?
ReplyDeleteCena vs Taker (this one is actually non negotiable for me)
HHH vs Punk
Orton vs Batista
Lesnar vs Bryan
It was like Dolph vs. Kofi...they. would. not. stop. having. that. match.
ReplyDeleteI could see it. Wrestlemania 29 with Brock vs. Taker as a special attraction underneath a Punk-Cena Ironman or something. Nothing about that show needed a HHH match.
