Hey Scott-
Long time reader of your work and an occasional commenter on the website over the years. Your "Want of a Nail" column was one of my favorite pieces in sports writing ever.
I could write about how HHH is screwing everyone, or Punk and Bryan should be pushed to the moon- but I was really hoping I could get a small plug for my eBay auctions that are going on right now selling some of my DVD wrestling collection. I'm selling off all my ROH DVDs which include plenty that are no longer sold. Also, have the Pioneer Entertainment ECW releases, and the Wrestling Gold stuff with Meltzer and Cornette on commentary. Here is the link for one auction and the rest are visible from there.
Thanks

ReplyDeleteDude I knew that was going in. He's my favorite player ever... moved over bobby Hurley (jk I hated bobby Hurley)

Thats a fucking heart breaker. Please tell me the refs are gonna take that back
ReplyDeleteOh god they still have a foul to give
ReplyDeleteCocksucker no Duncan or parker and we fucking lose at home. Wow fucking awful
ReplyDeleteNba live/2k or GTA has to be my favorite game.
ReplyDeleteGotta go with any of the Robert Downey Jr movies, his portrayal of tony stark makes those movies much better.
I think those two rob zombie movies or paranormal activity would be my favorite horror movies.
I'd go Seinfeld over curb
And I say 8th grade
- Superior Spiderman kicks all kinds of ass. (black, white, chinese.....)
ReplyDelete- Son of the Demon. I liked Damien Wayne as a character.
- Samurai Shodown
- Superior Spiderman
- 8th
- Have never watched either.
- Blade 2, but Superman 2 gets the honorable mention.
- Evil Cyclops that's boning Emma Frost.
- Nightmare on Elm Street.
- Nay.
8th grade or GTFO
ReplyDeleteKraven's Last Hunt
ReplyDeleteBatman Year One with Black Mirror being my favorite modern story.
Favorite video game is Super Mario 3.
Ongoing comic is tough, but my three favorites right now are Sex Criminals, Ultimate Spidey and Invincible (which will always be on my list.)
8th Grade.
The Dark Knight
Curb
How could anyone pick Cyclops over Wolverine? My favorite mutant is Nightcrawler.
Never been a big horror guy.
Morrison is hit or miss for me, but I'll say yay for All Star Superman and Rock of Ages.
The era of MAGNUS is here!
ReplyDeleteAnd the crowd goes mild!
Why do you want to kill one of the hardest working guys on the blog?
ReplyDeleteMan I'm watching this show right now and the 2nd half of that barbarian vs big boss man match is really good. Definite 4 star rating for the rockers match and warrior no selling Sherri was fucking great. This is a good show
ReplyDeleteAlso the start of the title match where warrior beats the shit out of savage and then chases Sherri off only to get brutally brutally blindsided by savage is pretty classic.
ReplyDeleteI dunno maybe I'm dead wrong but this booking feels like something Jeff hardy can do really well with. If nothing else they might be on to something with that
ReplyDeleteSympathetic babyface Jeff seems like a pretty solid money maker
ReplyDeleteI really don't want Abyss back.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you mean House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects and not the Halloween re-makes :p
ReplyDeleteCurb is fantastic. Seinfeld on steroids.
ReplyDeleteNinja Gaiden on NES is still my all time favorite video game.
ReplyDeleteI'm always wondering if Scott has watched Breaking Bad
ReplyDeleteSuperior Spider-Man is great but it's kinda hard to take as a long time Peter Parker fan.
ReplyDelete1. I agree about the Spider-Man run. It's the most interesting thing Spidey's done in decades.
ReplyDelete2. Under the Red Hood. Love the way it genuinely shows how screwed up the people under the Bat's watch can get. Same goes for the Return of the Joker Batman Beyond story. My favorite trade is the Long Halloween but it's not exactly a story.
3. Final Fantasy 3 (or 6 depending on location)
4. Uncanny X-Force or Superior Spiderman
5. 8th grade
6. The Crow
7. Seinfeld
8. Wolverine
9. Blair Witch Project (Even though I blame it for starting a terrible trend)
10. Morrison can be ok.
Yep. And the sheer amount of sex in violence contained in that book makes it a winner.
ReplyDeleteThat is the #1 complaint I hear from people that aren't fond of SpOCK.
ReplyDeleteDeaths of Gwen Stacy/Green Goblin
ReplyDeleteMy first one was The Many Deaths of Batman, so we'll go with that.
Shenmue. Twisted Metal 2 is a close second.
Astro City
8th grade
Avengers
Seinfeld
Eh, I haven't read x-titles in decades. It used to be cyclops.
Original Halloween
HELL TO THE NAY!
Bob was a cool; dude, I just hated him at Duke. Met him a lot of times at the track after he healed up from his accident.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're doing well.
ReplyDeleteBecause those two aren't awful also?
ReplyDeleteSo do I. I cycle a vegan diet in every 3 months to give my system a rest but I'm very careful with what I eat.
ReplyDeleteSteen was in Transformers?
ReplyDeleteI think they need to work harder to make the "PPV" shows have a different feel on TV. I couldn't help but think of their first prime time special they did on Spike years ago. They actually had quite a few matches on the show and it felt special. This had too few matches. The Feast or Fired angle should've been in front of the crowd too. Sting's promo was weird but it would've worked better in front of a live crowd.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think a ladder match in the way they did it would've worked better than a cage match. End the show with Magnus on the stage at the top of the ladder with the spotlight on him.
Last thing- that bump Hardy took off the ladder to the ramp was completely idiotic. He really is going to be a shell of a person in a few years.
SpOck is a way interesting guy to follow and ALMOST get behind right before he does directly and sometimes indirectly to remind of who he really is, how WRONG he is and how eventually his ride will come to an end. Waiting for the glorious moment went he is found out is maybe the greatest thread of the book.
ReplyDelete..ah, the "Al Bundy" theory. Blow your chance before you get the win..
ReplyDeleteMagnus... but I now realize that he was the jobber who couldn't open the Matrix not the #1 heel.
ReplyDeleteWe'll keep her memory alive.
ReplyDeleteAt least he's putting someone over clean first.
ReplyDeleteI get crucified when I say this but fuck it: I don't want Peter back. If they HAVE to bring him back before the new movie the make a new title for him, but LEAVE OCK AS SPIDEY.
ReplyDeleteOh, and RIP Scarlett Spider.
Scarlett Spider will be missed even if Kane hangs around the Marvel Universe.
ReplyDeleteThe part of the story Peter Parker fans can cling to is you KNOW Otto is going to pay quite dearly for the wrongs he has committed. It's just a matter of how/when ...
Well Ock has left such an imprint on Peter's life (burned bridges depending on how you look at it.) He will have a lot to answer for and if/when they bring Peter back he's gonna have a LOT to clean up.
ReplyDeleteIt annoyed me that Saxton was mostly playing heel announcer, randomly dropped in a mention about Cesaro beating him up in a face-like manner, then went back to being sorta heelish.
ReplyDeleteSomething I have been thinking about Since Carlie Cooper figured everything out is .... if Pete does reclaim his life, it won't be as simple as Pete is the guy again and Otto is in jail/dead etc. Knowing Dan Slott he will do something that makes fans think Pete was better off dead. Ponder the fate of Anna Marie ...
ReplyDeleteKane and Arceley might be on a new team but it's not quite the same as having Kane in Houston with a book center around him.
ReplyDeleteI thought Peter would end up in a cloned body or something.
ReplyDeleteKane and Arceley might be on a new team but it's not quite the same as having Kane in Houston with a book center around him.
ReplyDeleteSuperior Spider-Man is a great book no bout I just hope Superior Foes of Spider-Man sticks around for a while as it's EXTREMELY well written. Still so much they can get out of those characters.
ReplyDeleteWhen I become President of the Universe, first thing I'm doing is demanding Shenmue 3.
ReplyDeleteMorrison wrote the best Justice League ever and the best Superman comics since the Silver Age. He wrote the only worthwhile X-Men comics since the mid-80s. His Doom Patrol, Animal Man and Flex Mentallo are the best post-modern deconstructions of the superhero comic outside of maybe Watchmen. There are only two legitimate candidates for most important superhero writer of the last 30 or so years and he's one of 'em.
ReplyDeleteMaximum Carnage.
ReplyDeleteHush.
So many to choose from, but overall, probably Turtles in Time (SNES version). Resident Evil 2 is a really close call, and may just win out in a squeaker.
IDW's run of TMNT. City Fall is especially one of the greatest arcs ever, and you all should read it.
8th grade.
Scott Pilgrim, with Sin City being a close second.
Seinfeld.
Wolverine, easily. I'm not a megafan, but I always hated Cyclops.
The Cabin in the Woods.
Yay, from what I've read of his, though I hated that he brought Emma Frost back to prominence.
No good X-Men stories since the 80s? Really? You didn't find any value in X-Tinction Agenda, X-Cutioner's Song, or Fatal Attractions? Or anything having to do with the Legacy Virus? Or the Twelve?
ReplyDeleteAll pretty top notch IMO.
Lol!
ReplyDeleteHi-5!
ReplyDeleteMade up facts are still facts.
ReplyDeleteI just find Randy incredibly bland, both as a heel and as a face. In the ring, his stuff has excellent timing and precision, but is similarly a raging ball of "MEH" to me. It doesn't help that I'm bored by the never-changing WWE Main Event Style.

I agree. One problem is that SoOck and Scarlet Spiderman have too many similarities.
ReplyDeleteI've read it a few times. Interesting read. I liked some of the Avenging Spiderman stuff as well.
ReplyDeleteFavorite Spider-Man story?
ReplyDeleteNever been a big Spiderman fan... so I will go with the Clone Saga just to be spiteful
Favorite Batman story?
The Killing Joke
Favorite video game - all time?

I don't really keep up with them any more, as much as I would like to

Seinfeld. For goodness sake, the best episodes of Curb revolved around Seinfeld.
Cyclops or Wolverine?
Cyclops. Best anti-hero in Marvel right now/
Favorite horror film - all time?
The Shining
Grant Morrison - Yay or Nay?
Yay, though I haven't read a single Batman story of his.
A shitty not-funny-now-and-never-has-been-funny meme in the Ask 411 columns.
ReplyDeleteChandler is a meme on 411? I stopped reading it like 10 years ago
ReplyDeleteMaximum Carnage? Boo on you sir. That whole year along with the Infinity Crusade stuff got me out of comics for 10 years.
ReplyDeleteDidn't get back into it until they released the Age of Apocalypse Trade paperbacks and realized I could get complete stories. That coupled with the ability to order things from Amazon while drunk.
Who needs Futurama and Adventure Time Action figures? This guy!
Also I have the Shield for some reason.
But that's not important right now.
You are wrong about Maximum Carnage, but very correct about some of your other choices.
Just in Sforcina's articles, which despite the shitty meme is the only thing worth reading on the entire website.
ReplyDeleteNo! That's a bad Jef.
ReplyDeleteMaximum Carnage was bad and you are bad for thinking it was good when it was so very clearly bad.
But my joke is answering questions like this in a straight forward way. I feel like we've gone over this.
ReplyDeleteReally I just wanted to say Age of Apocalypse Chandler.
IDW's tmnt book is so much fun. I loved City Fall also.
ReplyDeleteWhy bother having a dog?
ReplyDeleteEDIT: Nevermind. He was a bitch too.
I was referring to his entire Detective run. Definitely one of my favorite modern comic book runs.
ReplyDeleteFavorite Spider-Man story?
ReplyDeleteNot really a Spider-Man guy, especially with the comic books, although I am thinking about picking up the Superior Spider-Man collections, because I'm intrigued.
Favorite Batman story?
The Long Halloween / Dark Victory series is my favorite (girlfriend bought me the LH Absolute edition for my birthday, which was awesome), a close second is the Officer Down story, where Gordon is shot in an alleyway after he announces his retirement.
Favorite video game - all time?
Street Fighter II Championship Edition probably ranks as the game I played the most through the years. Modern era, though? Maybe Final Fantasy X.
Favorite ongoing comic?
Right now, Wonder Woman has been the most consistently enjoyable run of any comic since the new 52 started. Gorgeous art, great story from Brian Azzarello. I'm going to be sad when a new team takes over.
Do you say 8th grade or grade 8?
8th grade
Favorite comic book movie?
Despite my love for the Chris Reeve Superman movies, my love for Natalie Portman in V For Vendetta wins out here.
Curb or Seinfeld?
I can honestly say I've never seen an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Never had access to HBO when it was on and didn't care enough to seek it out. Seinfeld wins, I guess.
Cyclops or Wolverine?
I could care less about either of them.
Favorite horror film - all time?
One of the Nightmare on Elm Streets, I don't care which, pick one.
Grant Morrison - Yay or Nay?
I like Grant Morrison for the most part, hes done more good-to-great stuff than awful, so Yay from me.
Boo! Blocked at work. Is that the pic of a kitten in between two boobs in an orange top?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wasn't sure if the cat bitched out the dog, or if the dog happened to walk towards the house as the cat approached.
http://img2.owned.com/media/images/1/7/8/8/17889/twerkin_with_the_kitty_540.gif
ReplyDeleteStriped top. She picks the cat up but he sits right back on her boobs.
ReplyDelete*couldn't care less.
ReplyDeleteSuperior Spider-Man is totally worth your time and money.
During that final fight Hugh looked like he was having too much fun. The kid was kind of annoying at parts.
ReplyDeleteWhoops, good call. S'what I meant. Fixed.
ReplyDelete...I'd check it out just for the implied midget sex.
ReplyDelete< sigh > Blocked again. Reduced to breaking out my phone.
ReplyDeleteHad not seen either pic. Gotta say, I'm with the cat in the first one. Think I might be opposed to cat twerking though, especially when someone is yanking on his tail.
Not sure why, but this made me think of 'llax.
ReplyDeletehttps://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/5112613376/hFD1D744F/
Can't be wrong if it's an opinion, but I actually didn't read MC for the first time until about a year ago and really enjoyed it. I was somewhat familiar with it however, thanks to the game for SNES/Genesis. If you want a close second, insert anything from the early part of Straczynski's run in the early 2000s.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's all still better than the Clone Saga.
Someone is letting #4 spot go to his head...
ReplyDeleteWhat did you say? I couldn't hear you over the 1000+ comments between you and I.
ReplyDeleteThe Masked Man managed to hook me and had me buying the column... until he used "Orton" and "Terry Funk" in the same sentence at the very end. GTFO.
ReplyDeleteJust about every commentator is doing that, it seems like, and it's the one thing about NXT I don't like right now. Regal and Cesaro are at each other's throats so Regal is obviously face, but then in the same show he heaps praise on Bo Dallas and mocks Saxton (or Phillips or whoever the neutral guy is) for stating the obvious or whatever. And Renee Young is usually all over the place too.
ReplyDelete"From late 2008 to early 2010, there wasn't a heel booked better than Orton"
ReplyDeleteReally? I remember him and Legacy being booked to look like total loosers, for majority of the time.
Wade Barrett and Nexus would like a word with you.
ReplyDelete
