From everyone here at Scott's Blog of Doom. We hope we were able to entertain you and make your 2013 a little bit brighter. Hopefully we can do that even better in 2014.
I was pretty surprised that Phoenix dropped the title so fast. That's actually twice in a row he couldn't defend a belt he just won (He lost the world title to Tim Storm in his first defense, like, a month and a half ago, at least in TV time). They seem to really believe in the kid, but it seems like someone got the hot idea for an "Empire loads up on gold" angle and pulled the trigger right away. That or they just needed a face to drop it to Anthony. Anthony's actually one of my favorites on the show, a deceptively athletic guy with a gut who thinks he's the best thing going. And I admit, Dreamer surprised me and made me mark out a little bit when he showed up. Good episode.
I haven't been watching that long, and will admit that I have not attempted to watch past episodes. I am surprised with how much Greg Anthony works his ass off in the ring, considering his look. The Empire is a pretty good stable. If I have a gripe, it's that the champ, Tim Storm, is almost an afterthought. The guy doesn't cut promos, is well protected by the stable, and doesn't seem to be the focus of the promotion. But all in all, this company has surprised me, and I'm glad I gave them a chance.
Hi. I just want to say, that I really like this blog and I like the other posters in it. Lame as it may sound, I don't have tons of people whom I can talk to wrestling about, and this blog is the one few places on the internet where I feel that most people are sane and cool and smart...I'm a little drunk. But really. I'm really happy that the Blog of Doom community exists.

Couldn't have said it better myself. 2013 was actually one of my best years since... I guess 2007. 2014 has started off pretty poorly so far. I'm not even 4 hours in yet though, so I'm still optimistic.
Yeah, I thought Anthony was going to be a load in the ring, but he can hold his own. They do seem to hotshot angles fast in TCW. Phoenix winning the world title was after he won a Royal Rumble style battle royal for the #1 contendership, then immediately got jumped by the champ ("American Psycho" Lance Hoyt, tramp stamp and all). Phoenix pulling off the win seemed like a big deal, but then he gave a respect match to his supposed buddy Tim Storm, who immediately went Empire and turned on him in the match. But, instead of seeking revenge, Phoenix just...kinda went back to the midcard. I think maybe they like to make a lot of title changes so that people have a good reason to come to a live show and see something big happen, which is probably a good strategy.
Not at all. But considering that the Chinese one is no less arbitrary than the Gregorian New Year's and I figured I might as well join up with a nation of billions.
That's not really a relevant insult. I mean, I know when the Western New Year's is, I just choose not to acknowledge the significance of the date, in preference to the Chinese New Year's (January 31st).
Doesn't sound lame. I originally came here just to get wrestling new amd discussion but it's turned into good place to come and just shoot the shit to pass some time
Oh I think Bryan had a great year. It's possible he'll have great 2014 as well.
If they pull off a story with Wyatts taking down the authority with Bryan as the "Mockingjay", Kane was a plant, etc. If they pulled it off, it has the possibility of being one of the best wrestling angles I've ever seen.
I haven't seen this episode yet, but I'm now looking forward to it. I've been watching TCW episodes for a little over 2 months and this is the first I've seen or heard of an Empire/Col. Parker feud as well. I'm surprised that Phoenix dropped the belt so fast too b/c I kind of like him. He has a good look and a cool finish.
*Bryan wins Rumble, beats Orton for title at WM, people bitch that he didn't do it in 2013, speculate that he is being buried by not opening and closing every Raw and SD*
Fuck 2013. It wasn't a bad year per se, just an obnoxious one for 12 months. It gets old really fast.
Although, 2014 isn't starting off any better. My photographer woke me up to tell me he wasn't allowed in to the new NYC mayor's inauguration, even though the publisher made a point of telling me and him he was on the list.
If my boss told me the sky was blue at this point, I would probably question it.
I know one guy who will go to summerslam and bfg with me as a goof. I tried to explain dirt sheets and star ratings to him and within 45 seconds he was making gay jokes. Watching wrestling has to be a top 5 hobby of mine, and without the internet I would never be able to talk about it.
Yea man. Especially as you get older. I'm 31 and if it comes up for some reason and I tell people im a fan they always think I'm messing with them or making a bad joke
I think I mentioned this a few days ago, but this is really the only place where I comment (and it took me years to go from a Blog of Doom lurker to a regular commenter), and it's really the only place where I talk about wrestling.
I don't hide it much, but I don't promote it very often either. But I like it here. I usually have the blog open on one of my devices.
I do not know a single person that is remotely interested in wrestling any more. My boss' kid likes Cena and so she is generally aware of the goings on, but if I want to talk dirt, or even have a real opinion on anything she thinks that I'm quite mad.
It was the same with me, originally, I heard of the BOD through Scotts book Wrestlings Made Men in August 09. Then after reading Dungeon of Death a year later, I decided to check the site out. I've never looked back. After a few months of following the sites for the news and rants, I started to read the comments more and more. Then I became more invested in the threads and comments themselves. Finally, in November of this year after following the site for the previous 3, I decided to just jump right in and join. It has been fun so far.
I plan to use wrestling vocabulary in all of my future talks to people in the real world... Going to be fun explaining what the terms over and buried mean
Except for computers and airplanes and anything that actually requires skill to make. The idea that American manufacturing is dead is a myth spread by doomsday prophets.
I think it'd depend on which god/entity you praise. Wicca isn't as much a belief system as much as it is a way to worship (don't be a dick and don't proselytize) you can choose any set of gods or spirits or concepts to actually draw faith from.
And I don't think Wicca is exclusive to the Northern European pagan faiths. I think if you worship Xipe Totec your holy days would probably be whatever the Mexica (Aztecs to gringos) used.
Computers are made in the U.S.? Since when? I mean, I know they're designed here, but AFAIK they're still actually produced in Asia.
American manufacturing isn't dead, and I think the real myth is that it was the NAFTA act (and other government programs) that fucked everything up, though it sure as shit didn't help. It's really more that the rest of the world caught up with us, particularly Korea, India, Mexico, and of course China. That same idea can be applied to the U.S. as a whole. We used to be a dominate superpower, we're not anymore not because we fucked up, but because the rest of the world has caught up with us.
Yeah, it's one of my favorite things about the show too. The announcers actually call the match that is going on, and if they stray from the match, they still talk about the two wrestlers in the ring and angles that they may be involved in.
This was a pretty hot crowd for this taping. The taping just prior to this had a much smaller turnout. But I like it when the crowd is hot, because it turns the match quality up just that much more.
Also, this shows that there is still a segment of wrestling fan out there that goes for the old school southern style.
We are still the world's superpower. We have the best economy, the best military and we've got a decent standard of living (pretty awesome relatively).
America isn't doing badly, it's just that we got middle class so we didn't want to pump toxic waste into our water and work 60 hour weeks.

ReplyDeleteThanks for all the effort you put forth. It can't be easy sacrificing your free time like that.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I have to work tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it already tomorrow there?

ReplyDeleteThanks y'all.
Here's hoping that we all have even more stuff to bitch about this year!
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems to think that they already fucked up Bryan last year.
ReplyDeleteIt's always tomorrow in Guam.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell any more. I've basically greeted the new year with a 48 hour hangover.
ReplyDeleteNew Year? Fuck you, I'm Chinese. I have to wait a month.
ReplyDeleteGet an American calender, then. You guys make them.
ReplyDelete'I really like this blog and I like the other posters in it.'
ReplyDeletei'm one of the other posters in here, so obviously he's talking about me
You're Chinese?
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't have to work tonight. Fuck...

He is Chi-a-nise, if you please.
ReplyDeleteHe is Chi-a-nise if you don't please.
Everything was looking good for 2014 until those damn Wyatt's got involved....
ReplyDeleteMe from China, me make joke
ReplyDeleteMe put pee pee in your coke

ReplyDeleteYou also choose to ignore the man on the moon in favor of an imaginary rice pounding rabbit.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, my friend. Thank you for all your contributions this year. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteRabbit's are pretty fucking cool you gweilo basehead.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound lame. I originally came here just to get wrestling new amd discussion but it's turned into good place to come and just shoot the shit to pass some time
ReplyDeleteHappy new year. Keep up the good work in the new year.

The question is whether or not they can do so.
I used to like working NYE. I would get paid good money.
ReplyDeleteIf you think that's bad, think about the wiccans and neo-pagans. They have to wait ten more months.
ReplyDeleteAssuming that Samhain is the new year. My knowledge of wiccan holidays is a bit lacking so I might be wrong about that.

ReplyDeleteThat has been my prediction all along, actually. The part about Bryan winning the Rumble and beating Orton at Mania that is

Seriously. I need a new job.
Yeah happy new year BoD! Hope everyone has the day off today and if you don't I hope your boss gets hit by a bus.

ReplyDeleteHappy new years mofos. Greasy cheesesteak greasy burger + gatorade = hangover killer
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smackdown reviews dude.

Yea. Good mix of legit discussion, debate, snark and humor.
ReplyDeleteThings are looking up!
ReplyDeleteYour day has been made.
ReplyDeleteThat was beautiful man.
ReplyDeleteI do not know a single person that is remotely interested in wrestling any more. My boss' kid likes Cena and so she is generally aware of the goings on, but if I want to talk dirt, or even have a real opinion on anything she thinks that I'm quite mad.

Everything's coming up Milhouse!

To all of the people who read but not post, thank you for inviting us into your lives and homes.
ReplyDeleteI still want to do a Blog Open House, welcoming the Lurkers to post and introduce themselves. It could bring some more new voices to the Blog.
ReplyDeleteMale prostitute?
ReplyDeleteFirst celebrity death of the year...James Avery aka 'Uncle Phil' from the Fresh Prince tv show.
ReplyDeleteThat really sucks. He was my favourite character on the show.
ReplyDeleteYou know it. I'm a regular midnight cowboy.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteSame here.
ReplyDelete:( bummer. Uncle Phil was a great character on a legendary show.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but I always figured that you're black.
ReplyDeleteI think his point was that everything we have in the U.S. was likely made in China.
ReplyDeleteAre you related to Rob Ford?
ReplyDeleteSounds like me over Christmas. I was pretty much hammered from about 11 PM on Christmas eve to about 10 AM on the 26th.
ReplyDeleteExcept for computers and airplanes and anything that actually requires skill to make. The idea that American manufacturing is dead is a myth spread by doomsday prophets.
ReplyDeleteWell, I do have a lot of white friends that are less cool than me.

Ah, I missed the 'heel stops to pose, face waits for heel to turn around and clobbers him' bit.
ReplyDeleteThis crowd is on FIRE. I wish someone with some money and sense would just run the Southeast. They'd kill.
ReplyDeleteShout-out to all the recappers who put in really solid work on all the shows throughout the year. There was lots of good reading.
