Monday Night Open Mic

Hello BoD'ers,

The final Monday Night Open Mic of 2013. We don't have NFL Monday Night Football but there are a couple of college games on and a bunch of NBA, College basketball and NHL action across the board. I originally thought RAW was in the can tonight but apparently it's not and there's the potential of a Brock Lesnar return so I'm going to keep my eyes open for that one. Not sure why they would waste a Brock appearance on what's likely to be one of the lesser watched programs of the year. Oh well, not my company.

So for the final time in 2013, enjoy your evening and come out swinging but please try to keep it clean.

Comments

  1. Hopefully Murphy's absence is a little longer. I'm a little under 400 comments away from passing him.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Waste it and not try to promote it, makes sense for a company in the midst of contract negotiations and in need of primo (n. colon) ratings

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm here to pray at the altar of VIKING SPACE LORD BROCK LESNAR.

    ReplyDelete
  4. You leak info about Lesnar possibly being there instead of promoting it to get more social media buzz, at the expense of trying to get ratings that probably won't materialize on a holiday week. The new media rules are counter-intuitive.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Good evening to everyone.

  6. Pre-Show Topic

So I saw The Hobbit this weekend and the theater damn near revolted at the ending. I loved it, but it got me wondering, what film endings have caused patrons to boo or jeer at a screening you attended?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Promote what? They probably didn't even decide until yesterday have him on.

    ReplyDelete
  8. What was wrong with the ending?

    ReplyDelete
  9. LONG LIVE VIKING SPACE LORD BROCK LESNAR!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Who is he going to attack?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm really waiting for an investor at one of those conferences to call them out on the counterintuitive nature of their social media campaign. Or, rather, pose them the question of why they seem to think it's such a boon when it clearly has no demonstrable effect on business.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They still could have put it on the website or cut a new commercial on USA.

    ReplyDelete
  13. How do you see post totals out of the top 5?

    ReplyDelete
  14. TUNE IN TO NITRO TO FIND OUT!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Smackdown spoilers are out there, usually not a spoiler friendly place though

    ReplyDelete
  16. http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Gary-Oldman-Yelling-Everyone-Leon-The-Professional.gif

    ReplyDelete
  17. More people will find out on twitter than a random USA commercial.

    ReplyDelete
  18. They would need an investor to have a working knowledge of social media and the way it works in more successful campaigns.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Except then the people watching one of their Law & Order SVU marathons might not know what was happening!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Without getting into spoilers, the problem wasn't really with the ending itself, but rather that it ended where it did, since it kind of left the film feeling anticlimactic. People leaving the theater were grumbling that this was just a commercial for next year's film, which I think is overly harsh, since I loved the hell out of it.

I mean, yeah, Peter Jackson added a TON of shit that wasn't in the books, a lot of it being shit Tolkien never would have abided. Worse, he added it to the exclusion of things that actually did happen in the original story, for no discernible reason. But I was still totally entertained by it, and didn't think the film deserved to get booed over its closing credits.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I liked it well enough, but the Hobbit films just feel so different from the LOTR films that if you told me some hack like Louis Leterrier directed them, I wouldn't be shocked.

But as for the ending, I don't see how it could have ended any other way.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I haven't seen either of the two Hobbit films released, but I'm curious: does it work turning the rather small book that was the Hobbit into three films?

    ReplyDelete
  23. They don't seem to really have the epic feel of the LOTR movies to me...

And you weren't kidding about working the live thread.

    ReplyDelete
  24. No. This is where most of the problems come from.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So, tonight is live? I thought they pre-recorded a bunch of shit for the holidays...

    ReplyDelete
  27. The WWE Universe could not be subjected to Big Show as a New Year's baby on tape!

    ReplyDelete
  28. They taped Smackdown yesterday to give them NYE off

    ReplyDelete
  29. So I will continue to avoid the Hobbit movies. Noted.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Reasons why the Hobbit movies aren't as good don't have anything to do with padding it out.

    ReplyDelete
  31. SEO and social media marketing is a maddening thing and I can't imagine having to try and explain it to someone like Vince... which is a decent segue to point out that the site I have been doing SEO for http://getridofcable.net had its best day ever today.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why would they schedule a house show on a Monday night?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I had to try and explain SEO to my boss today - I imagine he's a lot like Vince when it comes to this sort of thing. It was one of the most frustrating experiences of 2013.

On a completely related note, I will be spending the evening watching Raw, participating in the live thread (to try and pass that 1500 mark) and looking for a new job.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow, this feels interminable already.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Fan Pandering Punk...Ugh

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm glad they remind us from time to time that Dean is the U.S. champion because that belt hasn't been defended in forever.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Suppose I'll watch Raw until Phish comes on stage.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Iron sharpens iron? Is Iron Mike Sharpe in the house?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Felt like Punk was reading from a script. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Seth Rollins serves as Dean Ambrose's caddy, carrying his belt for him?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, that was weird. I saw "daddy" in that sentence for my first read.

    ReplyDelete
  42. No belt is out right now.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ugh, Ambrose's stupid voice.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wait, didn't CM beat the Shield by himself?

    ReplyDelete
  45. For some reason I kept hearing that as 'Iron Mike Sharpe'

    ReplyDelete
  46. I wonder where he put it when he picked it up outside the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  47. "Any one man unless we forget what we booked a month ago"

    ReplyDelete
  48. One of you, if the three of you, minus the two of you, is the one of you, but the three of you...wait what?

    ReplyDelete
  49. This segment is...odd

    ReplyDelete
  50. You will forget that until we say otherwise.

  51. STEINER MATH TIME, STEINER MATH TIME

    ReplyDelete
  52. Punk got a scripted promo tonight I take it

    ReplyDelete
  53. Doing what I can, 'llax. Doing what I can.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This is clever... cause dissension... good role for Punk

    ReplyDelete
  55. It's about time they had a promo that played out like a real argument

    ReplyDelete
  56. Still wish that's how they wrote his time leading nexus, it was write there

    ReplyDelete
  57. The first test for Reigns?

    ReplyDelete
  58. They are planting the seeds for the end of shield.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Punk as the shit-stirrer is the best role for him, thankfully they have a heel team he can stir up problems with as a face.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Holy shit check out the Roman Reigns chants.

    ReplyDelete
  61. That will probably not be the last Roman Reigns chant we ever hear

    ReplyDelete
  62. Reigns has nice facial expressions in this segment.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Angle-wise, great. Performance-wise, not great.

    ReplyDelete
  64. If this turns into a 6 man, I'm turning the tv off.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Was just going to say that. They should have the GMs in boxes in the back Twilight Zone-esque, animate whoever they need ona given night

    ReplyDelete
  66. Please let it just be Punk/Rollins that's a match I have always wanted to see.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Did they really need Maddox to come out there for that? Damn authority figures are such buzzkills....

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thakfully, I don't think Teddy Long is around much anymore. Not thankfully, it doesn't seem to matter in the grand scheme of things. But this isn't Smackdown.

    ReplyDelete
  69. You can't carry Big Johnny's oxfords, Maddox.

    ReplyDelete
  70. He came out and made tag matches on Raw before.

    ReplyDelete
  71. You'd rather HHH or Stephanie to come out to set up that match with a 20-minute promo about what's best for THIS BUSINESS!? I'll take a quick Maddox cameo.

    ReplyDelete
  72. They need to make this slow boiled,Batista style of turn.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Who's going to play Rhyno in the equation?

    ReplyDelete
  74. But it's still more of a Smackdown thing, the tag matches. Of course, now that I've said that, Punk will end up teaming with Kofi and another random against all three of them.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Fair enough I suppose, but I guess I'm nostalgic for the days where we didn't need an authority figure to announce an impromptu match....

    ReplyDelete
  76. skip that one.

    ReplyDelete
  77. People here still don't think he isn't worthy of a push, do they?

Because, you would be a complete idiot to not push him

    ReplyDelete
  78. All this talk about him and the rocket push is putting me in the "Fuck Reigns" camps.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Worthy or not we don't know, but he's got the tools.

    ReplyDelete
  80. This will be the 20th anniversary of Big Kevs rise to the top at the Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  81. That backbreaker looked like it hurt

    ReplyDelete
  82. Is Ambrose ever going to defend the belt again? This is approaching Gregory Helms cruiserweight belt levels...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Looked like he semi-whiffed on that move in the ropes the first time...(I don't know what it was called)

    ReplyDelete
  84. In today's world of wrestling, having the tools just about makes you worthy of a push

    ReplyDelete
  85. Let's look at some WORKED tweets!

    ReplyDelete
  86. They've been building and hinting towards a unification match tween Big E and Ambrose.

    ReplyDelete
  87. My guess is Wrestlemania to Reigns.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'd be all for combining the U.S. and IC belts and then creating a TV title.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I used to think those geeks tweeting on the crawl were plants, but then I read some YouTube comments.

    ReplyDelete
  90. The biggest problem with WWE right now is the commentary, you have a bunch of goobers at ringside now who can't tell an in-ring story to save their lives, listening to a crazy, megalomanical owner who was a horrible announcer back in the day.

The could have kept JR on in an advisory capacity for the announce team. But no, let Vince handle that. We should consider ourselves lucky Cole isn't screaming WHATAMANUEVER! every time someone does a high spot.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I like my professional wrestlers to be factually correct at all times.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Some of those comments make me laugh so hard and yet sometimes cry at how dumb some people are.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'd take WHATAMANUVER over about half the crap they spew.

    ReplyDelete
  94. A little bit of real and worked?

    ReplyDelete
  95. ONE-TWO-THREE! HE GOT 'IM! Oh, no he didn't!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Imagine if they ran comments unfiltered, they'd have every advocacy group in the country protesting them by the end of the show

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jeez, another commercial?

    ReplyDelete
  98. The ones writing in complete sentences are worked

    ReplyDelete
  99. I don't really wanna rub Shaq juice all over myself.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Ouch.crazy bump from punk

    ReplyDelete
  101. CHrist. When I'm nostalgic for the return of VKM on the mic, something is SERIOUSLY FUCKING WRONG.

    ReplyDelete
  102. They gotta pay their bills

    ReplyDelete
  103. That made me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  104. He looks like he is hurting bad lately. Much worse than usual

    ReplyDelete
  105. The crazy thing was, I think Vince actually WAS a pretty good announcer back in the late 80's/early 90's. Sure he didn't know the names of many of the holds, but he was enthusiastic, and generally stayed in the moment of the match.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Drive sober...or be in a remake of Robocop? What?

    ReplyDelete
  107. So over the weekend, I got to see American Hustle. Really great fucking movie, and I was surprised that Jennifer Lawrence really stole the show with her performance. She was absolutely hysterical and added so much to the flick.

Now I need to get to the theater to see Wolf of Wall Street.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I think they are real, but people know that you can get on the crawl if you pander to the WWE and people like seeing there handle on tv.

    ReplyDelete
  109. He whiffed on that a few weeks ago too (oddly enough, the last time i was off work on a Monday...)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Did I just hit the SAP button?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Jennifer is awesome in everything.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Damn, did a Anchorman/Wolf double header, couldn't line up Hustle times. Still want to see AH

    ReplyDelete
  113. So...faces pander to fans, who pander to WWE to get on TV and see their screen names on the crawl....PANDERMANIA running wild.

    ReplyDelete
  114. He didn't even seem to know the names of half of his employees. But yes, Vince was still worlds better than this mess. I wonder how much of that, though, was because of Ventura being his broadcast partner.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dafuq....when did Punk become a headbutting device?

    ReplyDelete
  116. I think that's just hair color on Seth

    ReplyDelete
  117. If it's Dutch yelling 'LEARN ENGLISH!', you did.

    ReplyDelete
  118. The trailer for that just doesn't interest me on any level.

    ReplyDelete
  119. That pinning combo should *always* get 3.

    ReplyDelete
  120. The more double axe handles, the better.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I would die fucking laughing if that happened when I hit my SAP.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Really don't like that spot, especially when he does it on the barricade

    ReplyDelete
  123. Wolf or American Hustle?

    ReplyDelete
  124. I love that a small guy like Rollins uses the turnbuckle powerbomb. Shocked WWE lets him do it.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I'd take David Crockett and a 90 year-old Lance Russell. Okay I'd always take Lance as my announcer.

    ReplyDelete
  126. The more people on this blog say building momentum and creating separation, the more I notice the announcers saying it.

    ReplyDelete
  127. WELCOME EVERYONE TO MONDAY NIGHT RRRRAAAAAWWWWWW!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Christ. My first thought on reading that was a rubber mallet that rebounds into the user's face.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Since the commentary is on a loop in WWE 2k14 (why the hell do we need commentary in wrestling games anyway?) that's all you hear.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Just got back. The opening segment was brilliantly executed. Great stuff with the opening promo that was all about WHO IS BETTER! No cutesy Authority bullshit. COMPETITION!

    ReplyDelete
  131. The Shield explodes.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Fuck you AJ Styles. We don't need your Pele kick.

    ReplyDelete
  133. What I'd like to give Beth Phoenix!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Ever since the "This Is Awesome!" chants became a WWE thing during UT-Michaels at WM25, every crowd outside of the Northeast feels compelled to do them for anything now.

    ReplyDelete
  135. David Crockett was AWFUL.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Rollins can sell like a motherfucker

    ReplyDelete
  137. You need it to make it feel authentic, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Ambrose's ringside shit talk would make him a great manager.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I dig his style of wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I never play with the volume on anymore. I listened to the commentary in 2K14 as I was doing the early Wrestlemania years and got freaked when I figured they were having JR and the King ape the commentary from the original announce team, so I just throw something on Netflix when I play now.

    ReplyDelete
  141. In all fairness, the match has picked up after the slow and sloppy start.

    ReplyDelete
  142. My friend just had an interior decorator redo her kitchen. I told her "that was a great counter."

    ReplyDelete
  143. Yeah, that was really weird seeing Ross and Lawler do commentary from Monsoon and Ventura.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Of all the upstarts on the roster, I just have a weird feeling that Rollins is going to be a huge breakout. Not necessarily a boom-starter, but a potentially insanely popular Jeff Hardy-type figure.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Goddammit. You don't WANT separation in wrestling. Hard to get a pinfall that way.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I would like a sell feast match between Ziggler and Rollins.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Interesting. Just not your type of movie?

    ReplyDelete
  148. That reverse RKO thing is terrible. Rollins needs to retire it ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Is it just me or did the referee turn around too quick there?

    ReplyDelete
  150. He's racing Ziggler to an early grave. Fandango too. Those guys bump like they're making commission.

    ReplyDelete
  151. That was a really neat old-schooly way to build dissension.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Sounds like one of the signs of the apocalypse.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I actually like that move.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I hope he doesn't follow all the hardy's footsteps

    ReplyDelete
  155. Off to a great start tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  156. I hope he is, he is very good in the ring, always was one of the draws for me watching ROH during his time there.

    ReplyDelete
  157. That ROH dream match was... disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  158. That was a pretty great finish.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Eh, it's a TV opener. What can you do?

    ReplyDelete
  160. Respectfully disagree. It had it moments but the match did pick up and redeem itself

    ReplyDelete
  161. To be honest, I think I'm getting tired of antihero stuff, which is kind of what I remember American Hustle being, and as for the Wall Street one...what, like I need a movie to tell me it's full of crooked fuckers? Nah. I'll take dwarves, hobbits and elves, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Definitely better than his old finisher.

    ReplyDelete
  163. The Intriguing Paradox, print up the shirts now

    ReplyDelete
  164. If he brings back the awesome trunks he wore as Tyler Black, he's unstoppable.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Rollins was the Tony Romo of that segment.

    ReplyDelete
  166. It was kinda sloppy and brutal but won me over.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Holy! Kane's mask in a box is pretty creepy.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Kane in a box is creepy

    ReplyDelete
  169. I kinda think Roman is gonna have a rough year. He just seems too mechanical right now

    ReplyDelete
  170. Fun match. I'm sure Big E and Fandango will top it.

    ReplyDelete
