Now
stop me if you've heard this before, but tonight we find out who the
new power is in TNA to oppose the current power. The big question is
who will it be, with names such as MVP, Sting, AJ Styles and Billy
Corgan being thrown out as possible storyline investors in TNA.
Either way they seem to have the American Wolves as backup so they
can't be all bad. Let's get to it.
The
opening video recaps the investor storyline which has been going on
for a full two weeks now. We also look at Sting's contract being
ripped up. Again note that it's a contract and not a career.
They're
in an arena tonight too which looks FAR better than the Impact Zone.
We
immediately go to the back with Magnus, Spud and Ethan Carter being
separated from Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe. This is Scotland so the
British champion is loathed. Magnus speaks extra slowly but says
that's not going to be enough for the Scots. The heat on Magnus is
excellent here. People are upset that Sting has fallen to the Reign
of Magnus, just like Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles. He ended Sting just
as he promised he would and it was just business. Magnus refers to
what happened to Sting as the thinning of the herd because Dixie
agrees that they should rid TNA of the dinosaurs.
TNA
needs to clear the way for the Bro Mans, Zema Ion, Rockstar Spud and
Magnus of this business. Ethan doesn't look pleased that his name
was omitted nor that Magnus says he got rid of AJ, Hardy and Sting b
y
himself. Before they can argue though, here are Angle and Joe to
clear the ring. Kurt says he's here to avenge the screwing of the
herd. Angle talks about Magnus being a paper champion but Magnus
says it's killing Angle that he became a bigger star than the Mafia.
Joe
says the only thing killing him is that Magnus is still breathing.
Magnus pitches a tag match but an Ethan chant starts up. The match
is on as long as Angle and Joe's futures in TNA are on the line. Joe
wants one more stipulation: if either of them pin Magnus, they're the
new #1 contender. The paper champion card is played again and Magnus
says yes but Dixie comes out to say no way. She says there's too
much going on to have to worry about that as well but Magnus says the
match is on anyway.
A
car pulls up out back.
After
a break the Wolves get out of the car but block a camera from getting
in. Anyone that wants to talk to the investor has to go through
them.
Velvet
Sky/Madison Rayne vs. Gail Kim/Lei'D Tapa
We
get a Beautiful People reunion, complete with the near kiss entrance.
Gail and Tapa jump them before the bell and it's Gail pounding on
Madison to start. Velvet avoids the running cross body in the corner
and makes the tag off to Velvet who cleans house. Things quickly
break down and Madison takes down Tapa, allowing Velvet to hit In Yo
Face on Gail for the pin at 1:50.
Post
match Chris Sabin comes out to yell at Velvet, saying she's been
ignoring him all week. Maybe her hormones are messed up because it's
that time or something, but she has one more chance to apologize and
things will be ok. Velvet breaks up with him to a big pop.
Joe
and Angle break into Bobby Roode's locker room for a fight as we go
to another break.
Back
from a break with Joe pulling Angle off Roode. Angle says Roode cost
AJ and Sting their jobs and he'll do it again tonight. Roode says he
would so Joe chokes Roode to a couch and threatens to kill him if he
interferes. Angle and Joe leave as Roode smiles.
Here's
James Storm with something to say. He talks about Gunner making a
good partner but then something made them fall apart. Storm asks
Gunner to come out here so they can put an end to this right now.
Gunner says they were friends but once he got the briefcase they blew
up. He had to do these things for his son and family and Storm would
have done the same thing for his family.
Storm
isn't sure with that but Gunner goes into a story about being in the
Marine Corps and fighting for the men that were beside him. We get a
USA chant in Scotland as Storm talks about Gunner needing to take
credit for how good he is. Storm loves to be a dad and drink beer at
night but his daughter told asked why he was mad at Gunner. Storm
couldn't answer that, so he's got Gunner's back no matter what.
They
shake hands and seem to make things right when Bad Influence breaks
them up. Kaz says the only thing worse than a drunken dime store
cowboy is a drunken dime store cowboy. He knows the thing Storm
wants more than anything is that briefcase. Daniels suggests a tag
match with the briefcase on the line. He'll do it if he trusts Storm
of course. The fight is on and we get a referee as we head to a
break.
Bad
Influence vs. James Storm/Gunner
We
come back from a break with Storm chopping Kaz in the corner before
bringing in Gunner for some shots to the head. Gunner gets double
teamed down and it's Daniels taking over with right hands. An
enziguri looks to set up the Angel's Wings but Gunner backdrops him
to escape.
Hot
tag brings in Storm who cleans house with a middle rope cross body to
Daniels but Kaz saves him from the Eye of the Storm. A missile
dropkick sends Storm into the corner for a tag to Gunner and the
former Marine cleans house. There's a slingshot suplex to Kaz and a
Last Call to Daniels, setting up a top rope headbutt to Kaz for the
pin at 8:00.
Rating:
C-. Nothing to see here for the
most part but it wasn't terrible. There really isn't a big problem
with the match but it came and went so fast (remember that about half
of it was spent in a commercial) that it didn't have time to go
anywhere. I can't picture Gunner as a world title contender but I'm
sure there's more coming to this story.
Video
on Samoa Joe's TNA career.
Roode
comes in to see an irate Dixie and demands a title shot in the main
event of Lockdown. She tries to throw him out but he says no.
Instead Dixie gets her checkbook but that's not what Roode wants
either. Dixie has a week to figure this out and until then, she gets
no more favors.
Eric
Young is thrilled that he and Abyss get a title shot tonight. ODB
isn't thrilled because she's worried about Abyss being a monster.
She leaves and Abyss walks up with a bag in his hand.
We
recap the opening segment.
Here's
Spud to get answers about the investor. First off we insult the
crowd by calling them the British B-Team before Spud demands the
Wolves come to the ring right now. Spud gets right to the chase,
asking who the investor is and even pointing a flashlight in their
eyes. He goes on a rant about how awesome he is and says Dixie
called him a fierce lion and tiger so talk.
Spud
slaps Richards in the face and there go the jackets. Edwards throws
Spud in the air and Davey kicks him in the ribs before saying Dixie
will find out when everyone else finds out. The investor is also
very interested in the main event and if anyone interferes, they're
fired. They've got me intrigued if nothing else.
We
recap Eric Young revealing that Joseph Park is Abyss.
Tag
Titles: Bro Mans vs. Abyss/Eric Young
Robbie
throws Eric to the apron to start and we get the Flair strut. Abyss
tries to grab Robbie from the apron but gets a stern lecture,
allowing Jesse to come in off the top. Abyss comes in for more
choking but Eric has to keep telling him to go back to the apron.
Eric gets double teamed again before Abyss tries to come in for the
third time in about two minutes.
The
Bro Mans get to double team Young a bit more and Jesse gets two off a
dropkick. Eric is launched into the corner for the tag to Abyss and
house is cleaned, including a choke to Zema Ion. The referee pulls
Abyss off and gets Shock Treatment for his efforts, drawing a DQ at
about 5:00.
Rating:
D. This storyline already feels
really old and it's getting even worse. Eric Young's act of being
insane and so crazy he's brilliant has never appealed to me at all
but it's been going on for years now. The match was boring as we
were just waiting for the ending with Abyss going nuts.
Eric
gets a chokeslam post match and Abyss walks away. Young grabs
the mic and asks if this is how it ends. There's one experiment
left so he asks if Abyss wants to get crazy. Next week:
Monster's Ball.
Eddie
Edwards says the investor is coming soon.
Bully
Ray is pushing a casket in the back.
Sam
Shaw has some wine with Christy Hemme and Sam puts his hand in a
candle but doesn't notice. They go off to see the rest of the palce
and we switch to security camera footage. Christy looks out the
window and Sam likes her hair down better. They go to another room
but Sam sends her to get more wine. He turns on a light and it's a
shrine to Christy with pictures everywhere. Why do I have a feeling
that no one is going to, I don't know, TELL CHRISTY ABOUT THIS?
Here's
Ray with the casket to say Anderson has taken away Aces and 8's and
Ray's identity. Therefore, Ray wants one final match: a casket
match. Anderson comes out so Ray threatens to piledrive Anderson's
wife and kids. The match is accepted and Anderson opens the casket
lid, ramming it into Ray's face. Anderson throws Ray and a chair
inside before hitting Ray low. Some chair shots to the back send Ray
running and Anderson stands tall.
Video
on Angle, talking about him being a cyborg.
Dixie,
Ethan and Magnus are ready for the main event.
Samoa
Joe/Kurt Angle vs. Magnus/Ethan Carter III
Joe/Angle's
careers vs. a title shot if Magnus loses the fall. Ethan goes behind
Angle to start and grabs a headlock. Angle takes him down with an
armbar and it's off to Joe for some right hands in the corner. Back
to Angle as this dominance continues, only to have Kurt miss a charge
and go shoulder first into the post. We cut to the back and see the
Wolves getting out of the car and putting the camera on the ground as
a third person gets out of the car.
Back
from a break with Ethan holding Angle in a chinlock before it's off
to the champ for the first time. That lasts all of fifteen seconds
before it's back to Ethan who charges into a belly to belly suplex,
allowing for the hot tag to Joe. Magnus comes in as well and walks
into a powerslam and a bad looking cross armbreaker. Carter gets
suplexed on the floor again as Joe locks on the Koquina Clutch for
the submission at 9:55.
Rating:
D+. Not a match here but the
champion shouldn't be tapping out clean in less than ten minutes. It
wasn't a good match either but it does set up Magnus' next challenger
which wasn't clear. Also I like Joe getting back in the title scene
as he hadn't been near it for a long time now.
Post
match Dixie comes out to yell at Magnus but Joe starts a YOU TAPPED
OUT chant. Angle says that he's done it all here in TNA and now he's
back. Kurt says he'll take that Hall of Fame induction now and make
sure to invite the investor. Dixie demands the investor come out
right now and, after a delay, it's........MVP. This would have been
huge if it was four years ago but now it's just not bad.
Overall
Rating: B-. This show had its
faults but it did one thing right: it had me wanting to know who the
investor was all the way up until the ending. The reveal wasn't as
good as it could have been but there were several worse options out
there. I don't care to see this storyline yet again but at least it
won't be as miserable as it could have been. At the end of the day,
this is what you get with TNA so you have to learn to live with it.
Not a great show but it did what it was supposed to.

They had the booking in the main event backwards: EC3 should have tapped out to give Joe the title shot and further the rift between he and Magnus, but other than that it was pretty good for a TNA show. I'm actually happy to see Joe get the title shot and spend the show looking like a monster again, and I wonder if a) TNA will actually give him a strong run as a babyface champ, b) he can drop a few pounds to look a bit better in the role.
ReplyDeleteConcerning the number of dates required and whether or not Punk has met the minimum, I've taken a look at some of the numbers.
ReplyDeleteAveraging 4 dates per week (Friday/Saturday/Sunday and then either Monday or Tuesday), that's 208 dates per year. Over 3 years, that's 624.
For simplicity's sake, let's assume Punk appeared at 4 shows per week for all 3 years of the deal, subtracting the previously-mentioned 5 weeks off in 2013 and the next 27 weeks (this week through the end of July). That would be 496 appearances out of a possible 624, which is 79.5%.
We have no idea what WWE's minimum number of dates is and I imagine it probably changes depending on the talent in question. FWIW HHH signed a new contract that began 1/1/12 and his *maximum* appearances was 180 dates. Obviously his contract will be an outlier, but I can't imagine a full-time worker's minimum would be anywhere close to that high. That's 86.5% of the likely total. As a minimum? I highly doubt it.
WWE would need to have an extremely high minimum number of dates for Punk to not have already reached that mark. Though that brings up another question: is it a 3-year total of dates or are they contained within each year of the deal? If the minimum was 75%, is it 156 required per year or 468 overall?
If it's an overall total, I think Punk has probably met that mark. If it's annual, he won't be hitting it in the final year of his contract unless he comes back fairly soon.
I have a feeling through written form it's going to come off stupid and/or not believable.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been a longshot, but I'd have loved Crockett to have bought it.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time taking Abyss seriously now as a monster after having seen him as the bumbling Joseph Park for such a long time.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, you've been one of my biggest nemesis in this punk thing, but even if he didn't meet all his required dates, I don't see wwe taking punk to court. It's just not worth it to them to alienate a future part time draw, have their contracts scrutinized, and legal fees to sue over a minimal amount of dates missed
ReplyDeleteI see. Glad you brought it up then.
ReplyDeleteYou're becoming the insufferable prick who has to say his opinion 50 trillion times just to get attention. Cut it out.
ReplyDeleteI agree in that respect. If they took Punk to court, that has a chance of burning that bridge for good (or at least for 15-20 years a la Warrior), what with Punk's general attitude and his frugal reputation.
ReplyDeleteIt was more an exercise to see if he could've even met his minimum at this point. Especially since that would likely be the primary cause for a breach of contract.
This is the first ever time I've stated this specific opinon. Nice try tho
ReplyDeleteHe's a little bit more than half as good as WE are..
ReplyDeleteMVP? Not THAT MVP, right?...
ReplyDeleteIts good to have goals... even when we will continue to stand firmly on the glass ceiling preventing him from attaining them
ReplyDeleteI guess the Brooklyn Brawler was busy tonight.
ReplyDeleteIf they brought in people like Borne or Morrison it would not bother me one bit.
ReplyDeleteHe gets it!
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of hard to tell if you've stated this specific opinion, given that you've posted around 900 posts about him. You seem awfully worked up about it for some reason. it's wrestling. It's entertainment. the worst that is going to happen is that some people won't get to see the wrestler they want to see. it's not like he's an air traffic controller who walked out of the tower while a plane was landing.
ReplyDeleteFuck it. I don't know if you remember but I shared a story that years ago I was caught watching The Rocks debut while going down on my then fiancée. I got caught and she got pissed, understandably. I shared this story with my current girlfriend. She laughed, thought it was funny.
ReplyDeleteShe was watching RAW with me when I shared this story (she wanted to watch it with me since I told her I like watching it). A little after I tell that stor she asks if there's a women match and I tell her yeah probably coming up. I thought nothing of the question.
This wasn't the last Raw but the RAW before that, the women's match comes on, AJ and ? vs Funkadactyles. The second the entrances start she asks "is this the women match", I answer "yep" and in a nano second she's on her knees, opening my pants and going down on me.
After a little bit she asks which one I like, I say AJ, she tells me to watch AJ and starts saying things le "you want to fuck that littleaj slut". Ii responded in the affirmitaive. I ended up pausing it on AJ BEFORE THE MATCH WAS FINISHED AND I "finished".
Boxing Threadjack. Victor Ortiz just got knocked the fuck out:

"Sports contracts are a fucking joke. Teams and owners dump athletes like yesterdays trash."
ReplyDeleteThat's true in the NFL where contracts are not guaranteed. It's not as true in MLB and the NBA, where contracts are guaranteed. If they weren't guaranteed the Yankees would have waived A-Rod a long time ago...
Very nice! Sounds like a keeper (or now)
ReplyDeletehttp://letters2mindanao.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/glassceiling72.jpg
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm thinking the same thing. At first it started as a casual thing. I was growing more and more attached and was a little worried I was the only one feeling that attachment but I'm finding she feels the same way and is realizing I'm not like her shitheel of an ex boyfriend.
ReplyDeleteAgain, nice try. Please show me where I've stayed the above opinion on punk elsewhere. Oh wait, so youre saying having 2 different trains of thought on 1 person equals the same opinion/argument? Or that since another argument on Punk is the biggest story in 6 months and I've heavily debated that, I'm not allowed to have another opinion on the guy on a different topic?
ReplyDeleteGood for youman... just don''t dive in too quickly. Enjoy this time before it gets less exciting.
ReplyDeleteY'know, my initial reaction was that it was awesome that this issue has gone as far as chants during NXT matches, but you're right. Not fair for their matches to be hijacked like that when they're working their asses off to make it.
ReplyDeleteMVP? Really? Did WWE really not want him anymore?
ReplyDeleteWow I can't wait till we get to the part of the Christy angle wear he brutally murders her and wears her skin as a wind coat.
ReplyDeleteSo it was a career vs title shot match, but only if the champ lost the fall? I mean, doesn't it seem like the more logical ending would've been for Magnus and Carter to agree that EC3 does all the work in the match so that there's no way Magnus has to face anyone any time soon?
ReplyDelete"Please show me where I've stated the above opinion on punk elsewhere."
ReplyDeleteOK. From earlier today:
"Facts are he talked about changing the wwe" but he was happy to be ingratiated into the wwe universe" once he got solidified into event programs with rock and taker. Way to rage gainst the machine phil. Nothing says rebel like laying down for rock amd cashing those checks"
I like how you act checked my obsessive posts about this. Still different. That was in the context of him being treated well in his precious 2.5 years in the company. The above was about him voicing out against rock and part timers then him shutting up about it once he got those feuds.
ReplyDeleteYou're like the second supporter i have on this. Nice! I like to think the smarter posters are with me and just don't want to voice an unpopular opinion but I'm not sure anymore. Either way...::Florida handshske::
ReplyDeleteHope the Shield and Wyatt can be treated okay. Kinda like them.
ReplyDeleteWell, who else's obsessive posts am I going to check to find a quote from you, sillyhead? Plus it didn't take long since you've posted about this a about four thousand times today (I'm estimating).
ReplyDeleteI never thought I'd want to hear any interview with Lex Luger, but I think this one would be good.
ReplyDeleteIf your boss treats you like total shit, then yes. Keep in mind I'm not talking about Punk/Vince/HHH here but my own experiences.
ReplyDeleteYes, though it's quite common in my profession.
ReplyDeleteI know. I'm trying to educate here!
ReplyDeleteCould be wrong, but Joe just seems like a monthly challenger du jour as opposed to a guy that's an actual main event threat.
ReplyDeleteQuestion, I'll explain why later but has Your Favorite Loser/Asshole been around lately? If your out there man reply, I'll go through the posts but let me know the last time he posted if anybody can.
ReplyDeleteYou know what this tells us? That a WWE midcarder makes enough money to buy half of TNA.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this I thought it said "enjoying his bath salts" and I was like dafuq?
ReplyDeleteThat only applies for the live threads.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely attest to the last one. I won't even do it at home, to much of a pain the ass.
ReplyDeleteIf Keith Richards is the guy we're basing this on, then Hardy (either of them) was, like, .3 at most. I mean, on that scale your run of the mill crackhead is only .1.
ReplyDeleteTNA is definitely less frustrating to watch than WWE. I like the direction they're headed. Hopefully they keep Christopher Daniels around.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kyle. You can love something, be passionate about it, and still have that passion possibly beat out of you temporarily depending on your life circumstances.
ReplyDeleteNow, on the other hand, Punk tends to be angry and unhappy with everything *all the time* so I find it hard to tell whether he has ever been passionate that way or just trying to prove a point.
He has been around this week.
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy to see MVP on my TV again, but I wish it wasn't...here.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it sort of makes sense wise, since I always pictured that kayfabe wise, the WWE signed MVP to some sort of A-Rod-like contract. So he would have the money to make a significant investment like TNA.
ReplyDeleteI CAN'T HEAR YOU AND YOUR LOGIC *LALALALALALALALALALA*
ReplyDelete-Dixie Carter
He doesn't hate wrestling. He hates working for that company. And he's a Mark....you're never gonna win there if you don't just look at the pizaydizay.
ReplyDeleteCompany Line is stop trying to change the business for the better and take the money and go home.
The problem is that, in order for this to make sense, TNA is using a character built in WWE. As opposed to, you know, building their own.
ReplyDeleteIn the last 24 hours? Even better, the last 12 hours?
ReplyDeleteFarva, trust me. You can love and hate something at the same time. He loves the creativity, the reactions, the athleticism. He hates the Bullshit cunt politics and NY is 77% politics and 11% gas, 7% genetics, and 5% Twitter followers/ability to keep your mouth shut about how big of a rat Stephanie is.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone thought maybe the reason he's so tilted is because they want him to put over H at mania?
ReplyDeleteI liked the subtle dig at TNA production quality by titling this post "Impact Wreslting"
ReplyDeleteline of the night goes to spud: "i've watched all the american cop shows. i've seen magum t.a."
ReplyDeletealso, for some reason i just think it's really good to see davey and especially eddie on more of a national stage. the wolves' double team on spud looked out of place for some reason, but hopefully thats just b/c its a stark contrast to the norm. i do wonder if davey will be able to de-indy-fy himself enough, though. for some reason, his demeanor in particular still seemed like it was catering to a smaller more particular audience. still expect to see some great matches out of them both, though
i just posted in this thread, and yeah, i've been around plenty.
ReplyDelete'sup, brah? am i trouble? it was like that when i got here!
Hey man, good to see you. You had me a little worried. So, uh, do you post on reddit?
ReplyDeleteSame reason why I believe DB was a bit of a pussy these last few months in terms of backstage.....how you are booked as a top guy long-term has a lot more impact effect than making a couple hundred k or even a million this year.
ReplyDeleteCould be the difference between 25 & 5 million when it's all said and done.
send me a pm to whoever you think is me on there, and if its me, i'll reply
ReplyDeleteBah. Never confuse me with the facts.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried to cook risotto or scallops. Hell, I'd never even *heard* of risotto before Ramsay's show.
ReplyDeleteHm. So, the TNA thing with Sting only rates a .3 on the Richards scale?
ReplyDeleteJust sent it. So uh, have you posted anything in the last 24 hours that would cause me to worry? Thatll help tell me if you are who I'm thinking on reddit.
ReplyDeletePretty sure I saw him on one of the other threads today.
ReplyDeleteI thought it came off more as part of the crowd got into it, whereas most of them became mildly interested..
ReplyDeletedidnt receive anything
ReplyDeletei have been posting there about some stuff, but nothing that i think would cause immediate alarm. if it helps, my name there has 4 numbers at the end.
if its not me youre thinking of, hope who whoever it is is OK
Goddammit. I'm big on Hogan hate, and I've never seen that...
ReplyDelete...but I fucking laughed when I read it.
Yeah, I thought this was a marked (heh) improvement over that match.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was pizza, but I'm a fat guy. Divas make sense, and someone suggested "refunds."
ReplyDeleteOK, good. Too catch you up, I saw a post from somebody with a username very much like yours with a similiar "tone" talking about getting a hooker and then killing himself afterwards. Just got worried it could possibly be you man. I was really worried after reading those posts tonight. I'm VERY glad its not you man.
ReplyDeleteSo you aren't the guy posting that he would cut himself if Bieber got deported?
ReplyDeleteIn the last 12 minutes.
ReplyDeleteHa, fuck 4chan, that's the reddit for low life scumbags!
ReplyDeletenope, my name over there in no way resembles my name here.
ReplyDeletethanks for the concern, though
(and i'd never go the "pay for it" route... that would only make me more depressed when i think about that stuff. and i know what making a permanent exit can do to those left behind, so no go there, either)
Your_Favourite_L0537?
ReplyDeleteWho would downvote this?! It's the best promo of the last ten years except for MAYBE the Pipe Bomb.
ReplyDeleteBear in mind that wrestlers are not technically employees; it's my understanding they are independent contractors. We can talk about what a joke that is, but it doesn't change the fact.
ReplyDeleteAs for health insurance, I wonder how Obamacare has affected their ability to get health insurance. MIght make for a good interview point if anyone ever has the chance.
I suspect he's pretty much a prick, but I have no personal experience with the man. I would welcome the chance to have a conversation with him under decent circumstances; maybe an interview of some kind. I'm not sure I'd approach if I happened to see him in public, because he was a jerk, it would sour me on his work forever and I'd rather not have that happen.
ReplyDeleteGood. Very good. Sorry if I offended you. Just got a bad feeling. You ever want to talk about "stuff" more, email me magoonie17@yahoo.com. Not to bring up a sore subject but I don't think it's as hopeless as you think.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you won't go the end it all route. I know this sounds fucking silly since I only know you from a freaking wrestling blog but I was prepared to use my credit card and jump on a plane.
no shit, that was creepy stuff
ReplyDeleteI think he loves wrestling still; he does not care for the situation involving his current contract holder.
ReplyDeleteaw, thanks man. not offended at all. i do think that we are a community around here.
ReplyDeletewacky interwebs and its magic power to connect people from all over
I think you're missing the point.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever had a job you hated, even if it involved something you enjoyed? It's no secret that I love music; it's my passion and I'd love to be making a living with it, but I've never managed to do so. I have made a bit of money playing cover tunes, and I'm here to tell you, I will NEVER go back to playing mostly covers or playing in cover band. It drove me fucking bonkers. It got to the point where gigs felt more like a crappy day job, and that's just horrid.
I think Punk is tired of working in the WWE and all the crap that goes along with it. Is he soured on wrestling in general right now? Maybe, but he'll probably get over it. If he has enough money to walk away, more power to him. I think that if there was a realistic alternative to the WWE, he'd wind up there. As it stands, he'll probably wind up renegotiating his contract to terms he can live with.
Or, maybe he'll be the one guy that not only walked away, but never came back to the product in any way.
Truth be told, I'd say the man has any number of emotional issues he should deal with.
Link please
ReplyDeleteI would always keep a roll of Mentos in my trunks. Long as I had those handy, the problems would solve themselves:
ReplyDeleteCena get Orton in an STF, the fans chant for Bryan. Orton counters and hits an RKO for a 2 count. The fans continue chanting for Bryan. Cena lands a desperation Attitude Adjustment. No response from the fans. He looks around, confused, then his eyes light up. He rolls outside the ring and ducks beneath the apron. When he emerges he's wearing a giant fake beard and long hair wig. He rolls back into the ring, pumps his arms in the air, and knees Orton in the face. The crowd explodes with a 'Yes" chant. Cena smiles, retrieves a roll of Mentos candy from his jorts pocket, and pops one into his mouth, basking in momentary satisfaction.
And then, after 20 minutes of rejecting all the same old shit that had been put in front of them, when the Wyatt's music hit (even though they'd already been out for 20-25 minutes themselves earlier in the night) the crowd went wild.
ReplyDelete"Someone else! Someone else! Someone else!"
"I'M someone else!"
There's a difference between your job (or any "regular job") and what he does. Based on what little I know about how THIS BUSINESS seems to work, I could never fucking do it. I'd wind up going to jail for beating the shit out of someone, get the shit beat out of me (or worse), or live in constant misery.
ReplyDeleteYes, he has a contract. But really, it's just a working agreement. Vince can decide to sue him over the terms and then a court would decide what was legally wrong or right. Aside from that, it is completely subjective.
And, really, would going on a binger and no showing your job for 7 days be best for you? Would you still have a job? Are you financially stable enough to walk away without having to worry about being able to survive? If the answer is yes, then maybe it would best for you.
It's one of the reasons the business has gone downhill. Wwe does not train their workers to call it in the ring or even allow them to. With HD cameras, you are to script out your match and follow it to the point the agents can follow it. Any deviation is met with harsh criticism.
ReplyDeleteThere are only a handful of guys on the roster good enough or experienced enough to change things on the fly and not shit their ever loving pants and panic DDT you when they don't know what to do next.
LOL I have. Many have.
ReplyDeleteYes. Most states these days have "at will employment." It essentially means that the employer can just let you go, and that's it. It's not done by quality companies for obvious reasons, but don't kid yourself. Most employers view their workers as nothing more than...well, an employee. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteYou are my new hero.
ReplyDeleteCould I use that flight instead? T would really calm my nerves if I could spend a few weeks in Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteRight. Just let that stuff play out and see what happens.
ReplyDeleteRisotto is easy...
ReplyDeleteApparently Jeff and Punk are cool now.
ReplyDeleteIf it's killing you, why not?
ReplyDeleteDon't you have a family that would miss you for a few weeks? And unless you are ready to get a hooker and then kill yourself, no plane ticket. You must meet BOTH requirements. So I need a receipt of gun (or similiar suicide device) and receipt from prostitute.
ReplyDeleteI think the heat against Orton wouldn't be so big if he hadn't had that boring gimmick of beeing boring on mic, boring in the ring and boring in general.
ReplyDeletePunk seems like a temperamental guy, I hope this isn't a permanent hiatus because he's absolutely my favorite wrestler of all time.
ReplyDeleteI just find this endless discussions of breach of contract to be kinda ridiculous. Truth be told, none of us were in the room with Vince or Punk so we don't know what was said. None of us have seen his contract and know how many dates are required. It's all pointless speculation at this point.
If this is a work, well, it's the right time for it. Punk can bitch about Kane and being number 1 and work it into feud with anybody really. They don't need Punk right now with the roster as top-heavy as it is.
If it's a shoot, it shouldn't surprise anyone. Punk's long talked about wanting out, and if something recently happened to make him feel that he was done, he's done. Both him and Vince are alpha male type dudes, so I could see neither one wanting to back down over might've started as a minor issue. Vince is the stereotypical dominant CEO and Punk is the stereotypical rebel without a cause.
Now you're just playing favourites! You didn't ask Loser for notarized documentation!
ReplyDeleteJust admit it: your refusal to fly my family to Hawai is proof that you don't love me.
I'm offended that you compared Nash to Russell.
ReplyDeleteLeave Tony Atlas alone!!
ReplyDeleteI'm no selling the speculation. It's speculative that Vince gave him his blessing. It's speculative he met his required dates it's speculative hhh wanted to go over mania. Every rationalization I've heard has been speculation. Again, fact is hrs signed through july and facts are he quit in January
ReplyDeleteEh, crowds in general are sheep. How many times have US crowds chanted USA USA for a face foreigner? (Anything more than 0 doesn't make sense to me)
ReplyDeleteWas there ANY crowd reaction for MVP?
ReplyDeleteYep. Hell, match gets ugly.....just quit the match and sit down in the middle of the ring. and flip the crowd off.
ReplyDeleteIt's not "evil". As I stated numerous times, i dont think he's not a bad dude. I'm saying this was a childish act by him.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite throw away lines in this sense was Rocks "Ira Goldberg" line.
ReplyDeleteThere are tons of recent clips on YouTube of guys audibly calling their matches in the ring.
ReplyDeleteOther way round.
ReplyDeleteJust a larger audience audience in a different environment with a live show feel changes everything. Put this show in the Impact Zone and tell me how awful it is. And yes MVP is about 4 years too late and only hardcore fans may know the Wolves, but it is a different & pretty cool dynamic.
ReplyDeleteYou think that TNA has the kind of dough to lure the Brawler?
ReplyDeleteReminding each other what's next in rest holds is not the same as calling it in the ring. Lolololol.
ReplyDeleteWhen your big main event storyline is MVP vs Dixie Carter, to quote Axl Rose, you gonna diiiiiie.
ReplyDeleteGreat question. I absolutely love when the crowd turns on a guy, not a match, but a guy and to see their reaction. It's got to be so much easier to be a heel, maybe not easy to generate great heel heat, but just being a heel in general.
ReplyDeleteFor me , although expected, the best crowd turn on a guy was the ECW Hammerstein Ballroon at One Night Stand when they just rolled all over Cena & kept throwing his shirt BACK INTO THE RING. Priceless. Crowd makes the show.
ReplyDeleteYah what's this? Or the "if u like to sleep with your sister say what"? Links pah-lease
ReplyDeleteWhich would lead to Carter getting pissed he has to protect Magnus...leading to hrm...trying to remember the word. Oh yeah, character development.
ReplyDeleteFucking crazy, sorry.
MVP's possible TNA names: Cy Young or Heisman,
ReplyDeleteYep, and Cena followed the "You can't wrestle' chants with a string of 5 or 6 wrestling moves.
ReplyDeletePlus, in last week's Rumble match, the fans were chating Y2J, and Cena actually went for a Walls of Jericho! He is the master of hostile crowds.
Luger. How many more times can clique stuff be gone over?
ReplyDeleteYour allowed to have two opinions. Just be aware that if you post those two opinons 90 times people are going to stop caring about them.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely affected their ability to get health insurance - one of the whole points of the law is that everyone can (and had to) get covered if their employer didn't offer it. Now the penalty for not being covered is really low (much cheaper than actually buying insurance), so I guess it's possible some of them did that instead.
ReplyDeleteThe awkward little moment when Tenay and JB didn't seem to know if they were supposed to acknowledge it or not was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI don't really mind TNA bringing over WWE guys...it's just that they immediately overpush them. Christian is a great example, and MVP is another because, yeah, where did he get that much fucking money from?
ReplyDeleteMagnum TNA?
ReplyDelete"I just find this endless discussions of breach of contract to be kinda

90% of that is Farva just being a contrarian dickhead
to his defense, he already know how to milk it in 2006.
ReplyDeleteWalmart only offers insurance to management. They have pamphlets for the employees describing how to get on welfare. The A.C.A. will change that...
ReplyDeleteOf course, the A.C.A. will change it for the wrestlers as well.
to his credit Cena could have cut that whole segment short. instead he decided to go all out with out by throwing his shirt again and again.
ReplyDelete26:45 mark, BEST CENA MOMENT EVER.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw5DWdCIkUI
Who said it was?
ReplyDeleteLol, indeed.
The just loved the business
ReplyDelete"Just going about your match as if it's not happening doesn't seem like the way to handle it."
ReplyDeleteIf you're not gifted with the talent of improvisation, that's exactly the way to handle it.
Wrestling fans are sheep. If they've chosen to turn on your match, no amount of pandering or switching it up is going to win them over, mostly because in 99% of cases, the problem is YOU, not what you're doing in the ring.
Cena/Orton at RR was awful and boring, but if they were trading hurricanranas and 450 splashes, most of the crowd would still have been chanting "boring" because for them, the match being awful was just a bonus. The real problem was that it was Cena vs. Orton for the belt in a main event of a PPV for the 194,720,491st time.
"Look at how many fucks I give!!!"
ReplyDeleteWhen the crowd is against him he does subtle heel things in the ring, mainly that smirk that are funny.
ReplyDeleteI think he's the only guy they have who's over enough to be the strong babyface champion that isn't Angle.
ReplyDeleteThe crowd chanted we want Divas and Ortont threw a tantrum.
ReplyDeleteSounds like he gave them what they wanted.
Try living in a right to work state. I have seen hundreds of people fired for no "just cause" whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteWay to screw tax payers with the off the books job! Proud of you!
ReplyDeleteWake up, TNA. TIME TO DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!-Axl Rose McMahon
ReplyDeleteDo you understand what call it in the ring means?
ReplyDeleteI think part of the reason lots of people want Cena to turn heel is because he could/would cut one hell of a heel promo for his turn.
ReplyDeleteProbably had a lot to do with the fact that Orton was in the ring with Cena and not Shemus. I'd bet money Cena kept that match together.
ReplyDeleteHere you go Nancy
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMCnhfXd1O4
And were willing to share their ideas.
ReplyDeleteThat was actually kind of awesome on his part.
ReplyDeleteI heard "refunds" on TV. Differnet sections could have been chanting different things, too.
ReplyDeleteI loved that moment. He was like, "Look, I know you're in on it and I acknowledge it, but we'll get to that, okay?"
ReplyDeleteThe BEST part of that exchange was when Cena finished the really nice wrestling sequence and gave the crowd an acknowledging smirk. Them not knowing how to react for a couple of seconds before the thunderous "You Still Suck" chant broke out was awesome. I had a major hate on for Cena after he got the belt back from Edge so quickly, but that match gave me a lot of respect for him as a worker, at least.
ReplyDeleteIt's gotten to the point that the people chanting "Cena sucks" are starting the "Let's go Cena" chant so they can do the other half. Which is all kinds of irony.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there's 0% chance, but I always have to ask. Are you the "real" Devin Harris?
I don't get it. :(
ReplyDeleteThat's nothing new, though. It's just easier to hear now.
ReplyDeleteHis posing was hilarious. It was right when the crowd was chanting "WE WANT DIVAS!" His pose was like, "You want Divas? I'M THE BIGGEST GODDAMN DIVA OF THEM ALL!"
ReplyDeletelol....I knew that!
ReplyDeleteI'll take Rock and Punk from a year ago. Also, Piper's rant about how important the belt is from about five years ago on Raw.
ReplyDelete*Taker grabs HBK by the throat*...
ReplyDeleteTeddy Long signing him to the biggest deal in Smackdown history.
ReplyDeleteLady Byng
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Qlfp8BOPDg
ReplyDeleteHere's Undertaker's promo as mentioned.
Is MVP that much of a sportsman though? hmmm...
ReplyDeleteYup. Bray Wyatt...face.
ReplyDeleteWho knew?
I wonder if any of the policies were worth their actually buying them. I'm guessing they would want something with national coverage, and considering it's based on state of residence, maybe not. I don't recall seeing anything available to me that had national coverage for regular health care...but then again, I didn't look for that.
ReplyDeleteHm. I wonder if they have some kind of network or list where they can get decent medical care by paying cash. This is something I'd like to see discussed in an interview.
Much more interesting than discussing...well, probably nothing, but still.
True, but it's not like this crowd was Cleveland.
ReplyDeleteAt least 50% if not higher.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think you need to refresh yourself on what calling it in the ring is.
Yeah, that's one of the things that Cena does that won me over.
ReplyDeleteClearly, this is not the case. I refuse to believe that people who go on shows like Hell's Kitchen are morons. I reject your hypothesis, sir.
ReplyDeleteCena's heel character should be like this.
ReplyDeleteOrton deals with that stuff really well. Remember when he asked for his line?
ReplyDeleteBut the thing is, he doesn't need to change anything, he can do it right now. To use a term i read a lot here, Cena turning heel would make him "Just another guy". Cena's mixed reactions and nuclear positive/negative heat is really a once in a generation thing. As long as he still makes WWE money, it shouldn't change.
ReplyDeleteBut if one day they do make the turn, the real problem is that the booking does not let him be himself, when he improvises his stuff he's really fun.
ReplyDeleteyeah for instance when Orton had Cena in a resthold and the crowd started chanting for Y2J and Cena must have communicated to Randy to let him reverse into a Walls of Jericho attempt
ReplyDeleteWhat is 50% or higher?
ReplyDeleteTrust me, brother, I'm aware of what calling it in the ring is. It's not plowing through your script when the crowd is turning on everything you do.
It's, shine when they want you to shine, hope when they want him to hope, heat when they want the heat, and comeback and finish when the crowd is about to cum buckets.
Planning your match out move for move is not bad. It's not deviating from it when it's not working, and still having a great match that's the problem.
I think it's wrong to compare him to Tensai. KENTA is a main eventer in Japan and although Tensai became a star, he was a gaijin tag team wrestler.
ReplyDeleteI miss Tajiri. One of my faves in that era.
ReplyDeleteI should have been one of them CSI guys =(
ReplyDeleteHe's using the MVP name, it seems. Strange that it's even available, considering that:
ReplyDeleteA:WWE came up with it, and
B:It's not his real name.
No, if EC3 was pinned the winner would still be the #1 contender. TNA logic, folks.
ReplyDeleteOr Rick Rude, he would have had a ball with those type of crowds. . .
ReplyDeleteWell it's just so he doesn't have to get his comeuppance as a heel isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThis keeps getting said but can it really be true? He's been wrestling a long time but how many years will he have earns $1m+?
ReplyDeleteI just don't think it's enough to never work again, no matter how good he's been with his money.
I like that match. Too bad the ones that proceeded it were just John Cena jerk-off sessions
ReplyDeleteHe really needs to play to the crowd more and be a dick
ReplyDeleteSounds like the fans are just bored with the whole thing and moved on to trolling Orton. And no hahaha.
ReplyDelete...
ReplyDeleteFUCK
The bonus part is ive been able to show my knowledge of contract law and remedies for a breach. Everyone has been very excited about that.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing to come out of this is hearing that he shit himself during the last smack down match
ReplyDeleteIt was my email. I absolutely think its hysterical that punk no sold hhh as a big match at mania. He basically just called hhh a B plus player but for real. And according to WON huntor is legit pissed. The crowds have been shitting on hhh since Brock part 1 and yes I enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's got hep c?
ReplyDeleteYour "it was my E-mail" is the "It was me, Austin" of this thread...we all should've known, it was in front of us all the time!!! =)
ReplyDeleteI don't get the whole deal about people being angry with TNA signing WWE cast-offs. Back when WCW was still around, WCW and WWF would sign 90% of the guys that they fired, and sometimes, they'd turn that guy who was originally a midcarder in one organization, into a star in another organization.
ReplyDeleteSo long as TNA signs WWE midcarders with potential, I don't mind the overpushing. Christian was ready to become a main eventer back in 2005, but WWE refused to push him, so he went to TNA where they pushed him as one.
Of course Vince does. And CM Punk has the right to leave. Everyone keeps saying Punk took his ball and went home, when in actuality he just went home.
ReplyDeleteDrags out? It's been less than a week.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the business of wrestling and copyrights and all of that, but I figure as long as TNA doesn't call him "Montel Vontavious Porter," he can still use "MVP." That's a universal term that WWE probably can't own the rights to.
ReplyDeleteThe show ended before you could see any of the crowd, but it seemed loud in there.
ReplyDeleteMVP's run in WWE was during my hiatus from watching wrestling. What did I miss? How good/popular was he in WWE?
ReplyDeleteI almost pissed myself laughing with every "-uh" suffix. I can hear him saying it!
ReplyDelete
