I first saw this match on Undertaker's Tombstone DVD back in 2005, and I've always been a fan of it. Cena lost but he still got the rub and put on a strong showing.
I vaguely remember the match. One thing to point out though is how well Cena has aged. That match is over 10 years old. If you look at the preview picture that youtube shows, Cena looks literally exactly the same, ring gear and all. That's pretty impressive in any walk of life, much less in the wrestling world.
Since we're on the topic of this match, does Scott still have the same opinion of this match now as he did 10 1/2 years ago? I doubt it, but you never know
Ha. Reading some of Scott's old 2003 rants ebooks, he was complaining about Cena being buried by the Undertaker... It was in the middle of his 'Hating undertaker' phase.
This match ANNOYED me so much back in the day as a huge Cena fan when Undertaker pulls up Cena after like a minute.
ReplyDeleteGreat story, good match. Loved the video package too.
ReplyDeleteBut the last Cena/Lesnar match was better than any that they had before.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them were/are also in their primes.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your point? That cena/taker could still go 4 stars in april of 2014? Why, I agree.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, Cena was in HIS yard
ReplyDeleteBut Taker only has to wrestle one match a year.

ReplyDeleteDamn that Undertaker, buying that Cena kid... Who knows what he could have been...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure people would have loved him.
ReplyDeleteI think he wasn't that expensive in 2003!
ReplyDelete'Taker did that with Angle too. In a WWF title match on PPV (Survivor Series 2000 IIRC).

ReplyDeleteMounting the ropes and punching the Undertaker is up there with throwing a haymaker at Cena or punching Hogan while he's Hulking up.
ReplyDeleteContrast that with someone like CM Punk who seems to have aged ten years in the last three. Cena's obviously doing something right.
ReplyDeleteSadly you won't find out
ReplyDeleteThat's not going to happen though. I don't think they're going with Cena and Taker.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how many complained back then about Cena getting buried...
ReplyDeleteMan, I totally forgot about that Jim Johnston Taker theme, such a guilty pleasure.
ReplyDeleteDid he buy him jean shorts?
ReplyDeleteWhat if Billy Kidman mounted the ropes and punched Taker?
ReplyDeleteD'oh!!!
ReplyDeleteThe pre-match video was great... "Piss right on the Mark." was such a great line.
ReplyDeleteThe version of this without the lyrics was a favorite of mine... insane guitar solo through the whole thing. The lyrics made it sound corny to me.
ReplyDeleteA rift opens in the space-time continuum, and out walks Shockmaster WITHOUT TRIPPING.
ReplyDeleteEh, I think they'd be torn 50/50.

ReplyDelete"You're gonnna pay. You're Gonna pay" is a really clunky and doesn't seem to flow properly in that version.
ReplyDeleteNikki Bella?
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show, sometimes drugs are good.
ReplyDeleteHa. Reading some of Scott's old 2003 rants ebooks, he was complaining about Cena being buried by the Undertaker... It was in the middle of his 'Hating undertaker' phase.
ReplyDeleteThats the match where Taker showed up in snakeskin pants right?
ReplyDeleteThat's the one.
