Recommended viewing: I'm going out on a limb here and suggesting WCW Fall Brawl '94. It has a very good Johnny B. Badd/Lord Steven Regal TV Title match, the usual Sting vs. Vader awesomeness (after you sit through a triple threat with The Guardian Angel aka The Big Boss Man), and there's a War Games match. Steve Austin gets screwed out of the US title, but HEY! He came out Ok, I think.

History better not repeat itself with Bryan.
ReplyDeleteBut HHH isn't that small at all. I don't get the pattern.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love Fall Brawl'94, it was one of the only WCW tapes that my local video store had as a kid, only other one I can remember is WrestleWar '92, needless to say I love Wargames matches.
ReplyDeleteIt's ok, it can be hard to understand sometimes. Plus knowing HHH, he'll find a way.
ReplyDeleteNot only that but WMX had all the wrestlers hoist Bret on their shoulders and XX had Eddie come out to congratulate Benoit. I'm thinking if Bryan does win they'll give him a special celebration, but outside Punk coming out and congratulating him I can't think what it'd be.
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but all three men were the greatest technical wrestlers of their time, and they're all Canadian.
ReplyDeleteTriple H is going over, baby!
This was posted by someone a few weeks ago, but I think it got lost in the shuffle of the Raw thread.

Best thing is, it was made 10 years ago, but it still applies to this day!
Little Mac doesn't know how to work.
ReplyDeleteRun Brie run...you have 3 years...
ReplyDeleteWho says the WWE doesn't plan ahead when booking? They did 20 years advanced planning on this one!
ReplyDeleteDaniel Bryan isn't canadian.
ReplyDeleteStop using that flying headbutt, Daniel?
ReplyDeleteWoman was a woman, and Brie is a..... woman. Uh oh!
ReplyDeleteHasn't it been pretty much confirmed dozens of times that Daniel does it a safe way?
ReplyDeleteDon't hate on the Boss Man! He was awesome in 1994 and a good part of that triangle match (although that is the lesser of all his 1994 bouts).
ReplyDeleteSo of this pattern hold, Hornswaggle is walking out champ at WM 40?
ReplyDeleteYet, Little Mac is still listed at #976 on Bret Hart's definitive list of who can work.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a pattern in wrestling.
ReplyDeleteHogan wrestled the first 9 Mania's. Left the WWE and showed up 9 years later.
Every ten years, it seems WWE pays tribute to their best working wrestling.
Mania X had Bret wrestle two matches
Mania XX had Benoit wrestle two men
Mania XXX has Bryan wrestle in two matches and one of them is against two men.
It's a full circle, bro.
THAT'S NOT WHAT STEPH SAYS!
ReplyDeleteM-I-A-O-W-W-W-W-W!!!!!!!!!!!
That seems less to me like a full circle and more some kind of Fibonnaci sequence of guys whose name begins with B.
ReplyDeleteMania XXXX has Bray wrestle in four matches, all of them against four men.
Mania XXXXX will just be the ending to Akira after Tetsuo starts expanding.
He technically walks out the Cruiserweight champ, so yes. :/
ReplyDeleteTriple H shaking his hand - the ultimate rub!
ReplyDelete(at least in Triple H's mind)
Mac > 4/10. But the Wire Boxer from the arcade could still work circles around him.
ReplyDeleteOnce you snapped into a Slim Jim, there's no going back to him.
ReplyDeleteJust sent another email...still have not been credited for the 'free' trial cancellation. $10 for one week of service. Now its about the principal
ReplyDeleteBryan's going to kill his Bella and then suffer a stroke while trying to make a getaway on his bike?
ReplyDeleteThis year seems more like WM10 with Lex Batista failing and Vince having to go with the little guy because the fans demand it.
I love the network and everything, but is anyone else getting bored of the live stream? I mean I get it, if nothing good is on then you can watch a ton of other stuff in the library, but I wish the live stream would mix it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteI would love it if they would add a "Just Added" section, where you can browse to see what is new to the vault, rather than search through every show to see if they have updates. Then this thread will have a "Just Added" notice.
ReplyDeleteDidn't get a chance to finish Summerslam 92 yesterday, watching the Warrior/Macho match now. It's funny when they started drug testing how these guys Warrior, Macho...so on start putting more clothes on.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who would go see a remake of The Yes Man if they cast DB? The script pretty much writes itself.
ReplyDeleteHad a feeling that Bret/Owen would make for a great Wrestlemania Rewind. Great feud, great match. And it can serve as a mini-documentary on Owen's career without having to talk about his death.
ReplyDeleteBossman from 90 - early 95 was bringing it. He was my first favorite wrestler when I saw him going against the Heenan Family for disparaging remarks about his momma.
ReplyDeleteI wish there was a an indicator of what you've already watched, like netflix has the "recently viewed" tab. It'd be easier to keep track.
ReplyDeleteYep, he was on fire during that stretch. His match with Barbarian at RR91 is one of my faves. One of our writers just did a profile on him you may enjoy.

Can't help but laugh when you say "WWE pays tribute to their best working wrestler" That's feel-good concept right there. Here's Wrestlemania 10, 20, and 30 according to Vince:
ReplyDeleteWM10: "With no more Hogan and the fans not accepting Lex Luger, I had to put the belt on Bret. You think Kevin Nash can be the next Hogan? I sure hope so."
WM20: "With no more Austin or Rock, I had to put the belts on a couple of vanilla midgets who are both dead now."
WM30: "With everyone sick of seeing Cena and Orton in the main-event, with fans not accepting Batista, and with CM Punk being a little crybaby bitch, I have to put the belt on a some goat-lookalike dwarf. "
That was still kind of surreal... Rick Rude basically got suspended from the WWF for 7 years because of some "yo momma" jokes... Did Principal Jack Tunney make him stand in the corner? Did he make him write "I will not make fun of the Big Bossman's mother" on the blackboard 100 times?
ReplyDeleteStill should have won the IC Belt from Perfect.
ReplyDeleteWatched chi town rumble 89 on the network last night. Wow! Just...wow! What an amazing show and the main event was something I couldn't take my eyes off of.
ReplyDeleteWith Hogan back & assuming Batista was promised a title, there's only one way Wrestlemania can end...
ReplyDeleteAfter taking savage beatings from both HHH and your newly crowned champion Batista, Daniel Bryan is just a crumpled heap in the ring. Several wrestlers, including Hogan, come to ringside to help him out. Batista starts yelling at Hogan, daring him to take his title RIGHT NOW. And the Hulkster, with the power of the Hulkamaniacs and all the WWE Universes behind him, body slams the 900 lb (by Hulk measurements) Batista. One leg drop later and the Hulkster is your NEW undisputed champion.
Just you watch.
Not sure if that is better or worse then what I expect to happen, HHH walking out with the gold. I'm still seeing Hunter leave Mania with both belts, next night on RAW debuts a new belt to merge the two and out comes Vince to strip Hunter of the belt due to him being a suit and not a full timer. Setting up a tournament with Cena/Orton in the finals at Extreme Rules. Not what I want to see, but wouldn't be a surprise.
ReplyDeleteIf Bret is the smaller wrestler in this group, than the others are midgets compared to him. He at least was over 6 feet.
ReplyDeleteHe's from Washington, so... Pretty close.
ReplyDeleteThe "fans" storming the ring.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you can believe that billed height for Bret Hart.
ReplyDeleteBob Backlund style!
ReplyDeleteJust realised. All the wrestlers we're talking about all have heads? Coincidence?
ReplyDeleteHow many stingers and concussions has he gotten in the last year?
ReplyDeleteAnd how about the fact that he doesn't remember a fair amount of his matches, like what actually happened in them, and he had his retina dislocated.
Bryan has suffered brain damage.
Zooey Deschanel is a major upgrade from whichever Bella he's with.
ReplyDeleteI'd laugh my ass off, if Hogan came out and he and Bryan posed together.
ReplyDeleteOr you can look at it like:
ReplyDeleteWM X - Canadian Bret Hart wins the title
WM XX - Canadian Chris Benoit and Mexican Eddie Guerrero win the titles
WM XXX - Filipino Dave Batista wins the title
You... missed the... you know what? Never mind.
