Just finished clash 16. That Luger/Simmons contract signing was great. I wish I saw that before I saw the ppv. Only need to watch clash 17 and I'll be caught up with where I was with wcw ppvs. (Just finished starrcade 91, one of my favorite shows ever before the clashes went up)
It was. The little nuances. I was watching Survivor Series 01 and was surprised that "Control" by Puddle of Mudd wasn't the song for the pre main event promo.
That's why McMahon likes Cole so much. It's not because he's an amazing announcer, but it's because McMahon can tell him to do anything he wants and he's going to do it. McMahon doesn't fear him ever disagreeing about doing something, like I'm sure Jim Ross did all the time.
I've got a Yankee game on, a home made Buffalo chicken wrap on the way and the pain in the ass chick who worked for me no longer works for me. Good start to the weekend.
Do people honestly remember random '00 era WWE PPV's?
I had to look it up and aside from Ric Flair winning the IC Title & the Steel Cage match between Edge & Matt Hardy it seems like the definition of a forgettable show.
Absolutely, i can remember who won the Rumble and the big Mania matches and can sort of guess who the champions are at a certain time of year from that but it all bleeds together otherwise.
There was an arc to those attitude years. Once HHH jobbed the title to Hogan, it became hard to follow. I have no idea to who and when Hogan lost the title
Why couldn't this have happened on RAW? Why is it the opening match on a show no one cares to watch? He's wrestled on less than half of the RAW's and SD's this year and most the time it is losing.
I stopped watching in 02 at that exact point as well. Then I picked it up a lil bit when Shawn came back. Outside of the Manias, I followed nothing from 03 til Rumble 07.
Batista is doing what Triple H needs to learn how to do. Batista's spent his whole run since coming back putting over young guys or getting them over in a loss.
I might get some hate for this but I like Cena's year long reign. The hot potato title stuff just got old. Wished the injury never happened just to see how long they would go with him.
I agree with Scott when he said if he's gonna be the top guy, keep the belt on him. I hate these short ass reigns and the long reigns was what I liked most about 1980s and early 1990s WWF.
I understand why people liked him. It just didn't appeal to me. He was different than the stat-quo going on at the time so it makes sense that people would support him.
It feels so good when everything you've booked comes together. A good cage match in front of a hyped crowd with extra production values to make everything seem nice.....just awesome. SOON, TO NATIONAL! YATTA!
As an English teacher and former writer, it's really difficult for me to turn off the pompous grader within. You're writing style is efficient, engaging, and entertaining. I'm not sure how often you've written in the past, but these are a joy to read as you make sense out of the senseless. This review has quickly ascended to required reading for me. Thanks for doing this.
Thankfully for you, the preview for next week with a visit from HBK and people cussing out Jimmy Hart looks like it could legitimately entertaining.
Well, I've missed nearly half of this since it started an hour earlier than it usually does. On the plus side, I spent that time watching Misawa-Kobashi from 2003 so it wasn't totally wasted.
It's probably a weird litmus test of sorts, but I'm hating Bo(in a ugh, can this fail already kinda way), yet am amused by Adam Rose......maybe I just have lousy taste
Natalya is the type of chick that takes a dump with the door open. Vinny's GF Ariane? is annoying as hell, Nikki Bella has zero personality. Literally all boob.
TJ: What we're the 10 worst fears to be a wrestling fan? It's for an article I'm writing and I'm curious of opinions. Obviously the year of Benoit is high on the list, and a lot of the late 2000s and early 90s
Yeah, I agree, they're both DOA. Rose is just so excessively goofy though. Like why on earth would you pitch a mid-card, at best, act that needs dozens of paid plants for every appearance? (I'm guessing paid plants, though they should just pick people out of the crowd)
I just don't see Adam Rose as a face, maybe I'm just older and have an established dislike of Russel Brand, but I don't see how that character isn't someone we all should want to beat the shit out of.
Wow, thank you so much. I pretty much just bang these out as, essentially, published rough drafts. I think I'd probably tinker too much if I thought about it more. I write and perform stand up as a semi-living, but that is mostly one liner type stuff, so this is a little bit of a stretch for me.
And this episode was kinda fun, it was just really gross. Next week will be fun, and my review will likely suffer for it.
93-94 WWF made so many terrible terrible decisions that still dont make sense 20 years later.
New Generation? Cool! Why not have some of the old guard put them over first?
Nah! Yeah good thinking Vinnie Mac.
1999 i was over Russo big time and with Austin & Mankind falling apart it wasn't a great year plus HHH bulked up and was blah in the ring coming off a hot 1998.
He's probably dropping a gallon of LSD or whatever the designer drug of choice is these days. He at least seemed unbalanced before, but now with the pedophilia act going he clearly seems like a character under some sort of chemical influence.
I might be alone but I really don't see the Bray Wyatt character lasting in the main event picture for long time. All of his promos seem identical. He has not evolved at all since his debut.
IMO all hes really missing at this point is a good submission finish. Its not like the Rock's content changed tremendously during his peak until he went Hollywood Rock.
Not evolving is a hallmark of any of their long term ME'ers. But yeah, without changing things up, can see it getting boring after awhile. Right now I think it'll be a good long while for me to get tired of it though
*CLACK CLACK BRRRRRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBR*
ReplyDeleteHello.
Watching Stone Cold Appreciation Raw. Forgot when midget Booker gave Lance Storm the Peoples Elbow
ReplyDeleteWasn't that on the invasion angle?
ReplyDeleteI understand that "Wind Beneath My Ring" is edited out.
ReplyDeleteSTUPID!
Just finished clash 16. That Luger/Simmons contract signing was great. I wish I saw that before I saw the ppv. Only need to watch clash 17 and I'll be caught up with where I was with wcw ppvs. (Just finished starrcade 91, one of my favorite shows ever before the clashes went up)
ReplyDeleteThere's an unedited version of Smackdown that was leaked on the internet. Real crowd reactions, plus Cole talking to McMahon in the Gorilla position.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for Cole having to hear Vince yelling every time.
ReplyDelete"sir, yes sir"
ReplyDelete"master,yes master"
ReplyDeleteFTFY.
Yep, the Alliance "honoring" Stone Cold, then Kurt "honoring" the Alliance in his own way...
ReplyDeleteYeah, right after the Summerslam match where angle kicked out of 3 stunners. He was way fucking over.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the few times I accepted a guy kicking out of finisher multiple times.
ReplyDeleteIt was. The little nuances. I was watching Survivor Series 01 and was surprised that "Control" by Puddle of Mudd wasn't the song for the pre main event promo.
ReplyDeleteWoo! Three day weekend! So weird.
ReplyDeleteNew intro music or have i not been paying attention?
ReplyDeleteHe could have been a main event babyface for years after that.
ReplyDeleteGotta miss goofball Angle.I'm surpised how bad Rocky's comedy has aged and his not.
ReplyDeleteThat's why McMahon likes Cole so much. It's not because he's an amazing announcer, but it's because McMahon can tell him to do anything he wants and he's going to do it. McMahon doesn't fear him ever disagreeing about doing something, like I'm sure Jim Ross did all the time.
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with both.
ReplyDeleteThe orange Goblin.
ReplyDeleteWCW Roddy Piper is so sad
ReplyDeleteAny of the bigger names get a noticeably different reaction?
ReplyDeleteGoddamit! Did they honestly fly Hogan all the way to London just to shamelessly shill Legends House?
ReplyDeleteWhat else was he going to shill?
ReplyDeleteI didn't start watching wrestling seriously til 97 and loved him then. I don't anymore. He was probably pretty drunk the whole time in his defense.
ReplyDeleteUnforgiven 05. Never seen it. Okay show? Watching now.
ReplyDeleteAnother non-title match.
ReplyDeleteHow he managed to get not 1 but 2 PPV wins over Hulk Hogan yet not win the title is some impressive politicking from 2 masters of the form.
ReplyDeleteI've got a Yankee game on, a home made Buffalo chicken wrap on the way and the pain in the ass chick who worked for me no longer works for me. Good start to the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but surely he can still contribute something more worthwhile than this.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I believe that to be true.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. I have to work four hours tomorrow and then I start as well.
ReplyDeleteAll I have to do Monday is take some pictures at a parade. Other than that, it's a bunch of WWE Network watching.
ReplyDeleteDolph Ziggler,sorry,you're career is over.
ReplyDeleteDolph is jumping to TNA, ROH, or GFW. He has to.
ReplyDeleteDo people honestly remember random '00 era WWE PPV's?
ReplyDeleteI had to look it up and aside from Ric Flair winning the IC Title & the Steel Cage match between Edge & Matt Hardy it seems like the definition of a forgettable show.
That would've been a rough/gross episode to sit through. Once again, great review.
ReplyDeleteROH,please.
ReplyDeleteJobbing to Batista is hardly rock bottom.
ReplyDeleteNo! All those shows run together.
ReplyDeleteDolph VS Adam Cole
ReplyDeleteWho would watch?
Thanks buddy. It was, at least, entertaining-ish.
ReplyDeleteWrestling on TV 1 out of 4 weeks is.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, i can remember who won the Rumble and the big Mania matches and can sort of guess who the champions are at a certain time of year from that but it all bleeds together otherwise.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. 2007-2013 is just a pile of mumbo jumbo in my head.
ReplyDeleteHe faced Batista last week too, this is the rematch hence No DQ's.
ReplyDelete2005,Cena was cool back then.
ReplyDeleteI can remember the Rumble winners but not the years.
ReplyDeleteRachel Nichols is cute.
ReplyDeleteI can differentiate 07-09. Can't for 10-13.
ReplyDeleteWeird because I can perfectly distinguish 98-02.
Three run jack to kick off the game. Let's keep that going, shall we?
ReplyDeleteThere was an arc to those attitude years. Once HHH jobbed the title to Hogan, it became hard to follow. I have no idea to who and when Hogan lost the title
ReplyDeleteWhy couldn't this have happened on RAW? Why is it the opening match on a show no one cares to watch? He's wrestled on less than half of the RAW's and SD's this year and most the time it is losing.
ReplyDeleteNeed more time for winners like Rusev.
ReplyDeleteTaker, JD 02. I hate my memory.
ReplyDeletewas that the next month?
ReplyDeleteI stopped watching in 02 at that exact point as well. Then I picked it up a lil bit when Shawn came back. Outside of the Manias, I followed nothing from 03 til Rumble 07.
ReplyDeleteBatista is doing what Triple H needs to learn how to do. Batista's spent his whole run since coming back putting over young guys or getting them over in a loss.
ReplyDeleteYes, then on to Rock and then Brock before the brand split and the 2 World title era began.
ReplyDeleteMadden wrote an article about him on Wrestlezone.
ReplyDeleteYep. 11 minute poopfest.
ReplyDeleteI might get some hate for this but I like Cena's year long reign. The hot potato title stuff just got old. Wished the injury never happened just to see how long they would go with him.
ReplyDeleteDid Cole take a bump there?
ReplyDeleteThree straight months of PPV title changes.
ReplyDeleteLow blow of DOOM
ReplyDeleteAlright,this a pretty good match.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mind it. The mark in me wanted Michaels to win the belt though.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what's worse: bouncing the title around or the reign of terror. Let's just say they both suck equally.
ReplyDeleteoption b
ReplyDeleteNow,get back to the fridge Dolph.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Unentertaining in different ways.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Scott when he said if he's gonna be the top guy, keep the belt on him. I hate these short ass reigns and the long reigns was what I liked most about 1980s and early 1990s WWF.
ReplyDeleteI was barely watching then but I did see the iron match live. Strange they put something like that on the air, but I was pro-Cena weirdly enough.
ReplyDeleteI really hated Cena beginning in 09. Loved Edge, loved heel a Orton.
ReplyDeleteEspecially if he was the top guy anyway. Would have been cool if they could have gave him a 2-3 year reign.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else here not watch any of the docs or reality stuff on the WWE Network? I swear I've only watched live PPV's, PPV library, and Clashes.
ReplyDeleteThe Cena Borefest began at SurSER 08
ReplyDeleteI never got Edge. I know people were calling for him in 08 or whatever it was, but I never bought him as a main eventer
ReplyDeleteWhoever they decide is going to be "The Guy" after Cena should get a 2-3 year reign and start re-educating fans towards longer reigns.
ReplyDeleteDitto. I make an exception for Legends House (sue me, it entertains me). But otherwise I'm watching old shows.
ReplyDeleteThe guy= Reigns.
ReplyDeleteMaybe in a year or two. I'm not sold on him ever getting there.
ReplyDeleteI agree. If would choose someone,it would be Rollins.
ReplyDeleteHe was different I guess. He's one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteMute time!
ReplyDeleteHe was only a 3 time WWE champ 5 years ago. He's since gone on to win 8 more since then! Plus 1 World Heavyweight title.
ReplyDeleteThe Shield really don't excite me. It probably would be different if they developed personalities. All they do is grimace into the camera.
ReplyDeleteTop 5 Favorite Wrestlers of All Time?
ReplyDeleteI'll go Michaels, Austin, Rock, Jericho, and....Orton.
I understand why people liked him. It just didn't appeal to me. He was different than the stat-quo going on at the time so it makes sense that people would support him.
ReplyDeleteMan this is gonna be TOUGH.
ReplyDeleteBret Hart, Sting, Big Van Vader, Randy Savage, Chris Benoit
3 WH reigns actually.
ReplyDeleteEva Marie is hopeless in the ring, truly terrible.
ReplyDeleteHulk Hogan,Macho Man,Ultimate Warrior,Bret Hart & Stone Cold.
ReplyDeleteI wish they'd take her off touring and have her in NXT for a year or more, but I can understand why they keep her on the main roster.
ReplyDeleteJerigod,Kevin Steen,Raven,Tomohiro Ishii and Flair (pre-self parody days)
ReplyDeleteAustin, Bret, Rock, Goldberg, Booker T
ReplyDeleteThe first 2 happened over 5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI was just illustrating how many titles Cena's won even far after he was already an established top guy.
Bo should enter via helicopter.
ReplyDeleteExplain it why she's still on tv.
ReplyDeleteShe's on Total Dvias.
ReplyDeleteThey did a trading marathon in 2009 with Orton.
ReplyDeleteHe did that for Batista.
ReplyDeleteWhat I think about that show
ReplyDelete*CLAK CLAK BRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRB*
Oh my, Big Show-Snitsky.
ReplyDeleteHe should cheat on his Debut match and leave like he's still a hero.
ReplyDeleteBatista was 36 at the time and one of the only exceptions, presumably because he was Triple H's buddy.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather watch Total Divas for an hour than a three hour RAW.
ReplyDeleteI watched it last weekend. It's great on mute.
ReplyDeleteI would rather watch GOT,at least the heels get their comeuppance.
ReplyDeletePlus he everyone saw him rise up to the top since his debut in 98.
ReplyDeleteWatching a guy take 7 plus years to rise to the top hadn't been seen since Bret and HBK. (In one company obviously)
Only Brian's bella and the uso one act like decent people.
ReplyDeleteEva Marie is actually pretty tolerable this season.....not that I watch it or anything....
ReplyDeleteAt least they're letting Bo actually work a match in his debut. That's how guys get over, by doing crazy things like actually wrestling.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't his fault!
ReplyDeleteI find big boob Bella as the worst, but man that body.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I hate the stuff they are doing with Adam Rose. Let him wrestle!
ReplyDeletehttp://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae327/StunNeedle/AWESOMEBOOKING_zps9fbefb5e.png
ReplyDeleteIt feels so good when everything you've booked comes together. A good cage match in front of a hyped crowd with extra production values to make everything seem nice.....just awesome. SOON, TO NATIONAL! YATTA!
Now bring Zayn.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately we can
ReplyDeletePWTorch had a poll that saw people voting 4 times more excited for Best in the World than Slammiversary. It was like 120 to 30 in votes.
ReplyDeleteAs an English teacher and former writer, it's really difficult for me to turn off the pompous grader within. You're writing style is efficient, engaging, and entertaining. Well, I've missed nearly half of this since it started an hour earlier than it usually does. On the plus side, I spent that time watching Misawa-Kobashi from 2003 so it wasn't totally wasted.
ReplyDeleteIn retrospect, they should have turned him face before winning but that spot was already taken, obviously
ReplyDeleteDaniels is back.
ReplyDeleteWho's Cole defending?
Cole vs. Elgin for the ROH title is the main event.
ReplyDeleteThey gotta pull the trigger on Elgin soon.
ReplyDeleteYou missed Batista vs. Dolph in a match nowhere near comparable to 2 minutes of Misawa/Kobashi.
ReplyDeleteidk. Meltzer thinks they are going to promote an IWGP vs. ROH title match at Final Battle. Maybe AJ vs. Cole or something.
ReplyDeleteNah! He was a great heel with super slut Lita tagging along, he was red hot at the time.
ReplyDeleteBut then...LOL CENA WINS!
Better be Elgin vs AJ.Cole was a subpar champion.
ReplyDeleteTJ: More satisfying payoff: Honky Tonk/Warrior or Loki/Hulk?
ReplyDeleteIt's probably a weird litmus test of sorts, but I'm hating Bo(in a ugh, can this fail already kinda way), yet am amused by Adam Rose......maybe I just have lousy taste
ReplyDeleteHad to switch over to my laptop since the Blog does not respond well on my iPad.
ReplyDeleteFOREVER!
ReplyDeleteOkay, trying to pump up Sin Cara after beating him was nice, that will get him some good heat going forward.
ReplyDeleteLoki/Hulk........certified Marvel koolaid drinker
ReplyDeleteI've watched like four episodes and felt the same ways. Ariadne, Cena Bella, and Nattie are evil.
ReplyDeleteI don't think either of them are going to be successful gimmicks. They both just seem second-rate.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ giving him Spike Dudley's finisher.
ReplyDeleteDidn't everyone start watching when Edge won? I remember there was a big jump in the ratings.
ReplyDeleteHonky/Warrior.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect payoff to an angle that went on and on due to so many various backstage shenanigans.
Natalya is the type of chick that takes a dump with the door open. Vinny's GF Ariane? is annoying as hell, Nikki Bella has zero personality. Literally all boob.
ReplyDeleteTJ: What we're the 10 worst fears to be a wrestling fan? It's for an article I'm writing and I'm curious of opinions. Obviously the year of Benoit is high on the list, and a lot of the late 2000s and early 90s

ReplyDeleteand THE Brian Kendrick. Sliced Bread #2!
ReplyDeleteyou can't threadjack an open thread
ReplyDeleteWorst fears or years?
ReplyDeleteKendrick's finisher was different.
ReplyDeleteSpiders
ReplyDelete~Crazy Truth
Agreed, i can't blame a girl for sucking if they just pluck her out of some random modelling agency and throw her in the ring.
ReplyDeleteWhat is she supposed to do? Refuse to wrestle? Just terrible management all around.
Well Molly Holly used it too, but I think Spike was first.
ReplyDeleteThe entrance is just an awesome spectacle for a lot of people, and he can do it for da kidz.
ReplyDeleteI just don't see Adam Rose as a face, maybe I'm just older and have an established dislike of Russel Brand, but I don't see how that character isn't someone we all should want to beat the shit out of.
ReplyDeleteThat was for Lita's tit slip.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah the ratings took a nice uptick and the quarter hour number for Edge and Lita's live sex celebration was off the charts.
You're right. This was like a flippy bulldog move.
ReplyDeleteWow, thank you so much. I pretty much just bang these out as, essentially, published rough drafts. I think I'd probably tinker too much if I thought about it more. I write and perform stand up as a semi-living, but that is mostly one liner type stuff, so this is a little bit of a stretch for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd this episode was kinda fun, it was just really gross. Next week will be fun, and my review will likely suffer for it.
Most influential sports brand? WTF does that even mean?
ReplyDeleteOf ten worst years...
ReplyDelete1993, 1995, 1999, 2002, 2003 Raw, 2004 Smackdown, 2009, 2010, 2011
Did Cole just say that for WWE? I think there are several professional sports teams that could argue that.
ReplyDelete2009 was saved by smackdown,2011 by Punk.
ReplyDeleteBut do they trend worldwide on twitter?
ReplyDeleteIt was the "Did You Know?"
ReplyDeleteman they are just making stuff up
ReplyDeleteTNA had 4 top trends worldwide last night and got a 0.87 rating lol
ReplyDeleteAwful besides that. And punk was only awesome for like a month before his heat was siphoned. He got good by the fall though.
ReplyDeleteMore than likely, yes. The Twitter fad is not at all exclusive to WWE.
ReplyDeleteRussel Brand is a total heel character.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't even put WWE in the top 100.
ReplyDeleteIt would have worked in the attitude era with some edge to it. Really play up the ringrats/rockstar excess aspect of the character.
ReplyDeleteBut now they'll probably end up selling inflatable lollypops for the kids to wave when he ends up teaming with Santino and Khali.
They're the top 1002.
ReplyDeleteARMBAR!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Total jerk character.
ReplyDeleteArm-BAR!
ReplyDeleteDID YOU KNOW: The WWE resents its fanbase due to years of violent and/or stupid ultra marks making life miserable for the talent?
ReplyDeleteExactly, so how is Adam Rose, who seems to be based on Russel Brand in whatever movie he was in that time, a face character?
ReplyDelete.....I hope they didn't make Bray sit there live like an idiot for that montage
ReplyDelete93-94 WWF made so many terrible terrible decisions that still dont make sense 20 years later.
ReplyDeleteNew Generation? Cool! Why not have some of the old guard put them over first?
Nah! Yeah good thinking Vinnie Mac.
1999 i was over Russo big time and with Austin & Mankind falling apart it wasn't a great year plus HHH bulked up and was blah in the ring coming off a hot 1998.
What's hold 1004?
ReplyDeleteMakes zero sense.
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't abandon Harper once the Wyatt family stuff runs its course.
ReplyDeleteI'm completely unsympathetic to that. All entertainers/celebrities go through it but you would swear it was invented when Punk became popular.
ReplyDeleteHe's probably dropping a gallon of LSD or whatever the designer drug of choice is these days. He at least seemed unbalanced before, but now with the pedophilia act going he clearly seems like a character under some sort of chemical influence.
ReplyDeleteA* acting people.
I might be alone but I really don't see the Bray Wyatt character lasting in the main event picture for long time. All of his promos seem identical. He has not evolved at all since his debut.
ReplyDelete"Daddy! Todd's speaking in tongues!"
ReplyDeleteActually, it was invented when Arn Anderson took a 78 stitch cut from a jackass with a hawkbill knife, but whatevs.
ReplyDeleteWHAT?
ReplyDeleteSeriously was Bray talking in tongues there?
2005 was pretty average to bad for me. Show/Kane were heels when they were feuding with Batista and Rey but faces in other situations.
ReplyDeleteSaskatchewan Sleeper Hold
ReplyDeleteGentlemen I am OFFICIALLY here
ReplyDeleteNORM!
ReplyDeleteWhat's happenin'?
ReplyDeleteClearly, Devin and I do!
ReplyDeleteIMO all hes really missing at this point is a good submission finish. Its not like the Rock's content changed tremendously during his peak until he went Hollywood Rock.
ReplyDeleteMy client Brock Lesnar has conquered his fear of steps.
ReplyDelete"who cares" is so 90s
ReplyDelete*Blows out LED screen*
ReplyDeleteI'm torn. I love that I am the standard bearer customer... but not so much that I am the biggest drunk here.
ReplyDeleteHey you know who my favorite character on Cheers was? The black guy... oh wait
Not evolving is a hallmark of any of their long term ME'ers. But yeah, without changing things up, can see it getting boring after awhile. Right now I think it'll be a good long while for me to get tired of it though
ReplyDeleteVery little. Need a break from SEO'ing the #1 cord cutter authority site on the internet (Thumbs Up Cheap Pop)
ReplyDelete
