New E-Book: KB's History of Survivor Series

This time we’re starting back in 1987 when there was only one WWF pay per view a year.  With Wrestlemania III being a huge success, it was decided that another pay per view should be added to help bridge the gap between Wrestlemanias.  The fact that it was able to cause major damage to the NWA was just a bonus.

There has been a long list of great Survivor Series matches over the years, including the tag team Survivor Series matches, Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in 1992 and Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart. There’s also a big list of people making their debut with the company at the show. Names like the Undertaker, Kurt Angle and The Rock all stepped into the ring for the first time at Survivor Series. On top of all that Survivor Series had the most infamous moment in wrestling history that changed a lot of things forever.

In this new book, I’ll be looking at the history of the Survivor Series, breaking down each show and going over every match, promo and segment, providing historical context, analysis and rating each match and show.

The book is available from Amazon for just $3.99 (or the equivalent in any other currency) and runs 391 pages on a Kindle. If you don’t have a Kindle, there are free apps that you can get to read it on your phone, laptop, iPad, or any other electronic device you have. These can be found from Amazon here.

You can pick it up from Amazon here.

From the UK Amazon here.

From the Canadian Amazon here.

Or if you’re in another country with its own Amazon page, just search KB Survivor Series and it should be the first thing that pops up.

Also you can still get any of my previous books on the WWE Championship, Monday Night Raw from 1998 and 2001, Monday Nitro from 1995-96, In Your House, Summerslam, Starrcade and Clash of the Champions at my author’s page here.

I hope you enjoy it and thanks for checking it out.

  1. Edgar Wright and Marvel have parted ways over the Ant-Man flick's creative direction.

Shame since they've been teasing this damn movie for how many years now?

Oh and She-Hulk is awesome. You never read a She-Hulk comic and wait for the Hulk to show up, she's truly her own character. Batgirl/Supergirl are more iconic but their male counterparts are in every 6th issue or so.

  2. If you can't work a 3 minute match then you have no business calling yourself a professional wrestler but i can't judge those guys as i've never seen em.

  3. I'm sorry... I laughed at this too.

  4. Well, you said you stopped caring at 25, which implies you cared before.

  5. When he's blaming Marc Mero for grabbing his tights in their KOTR Quarter-final match, i almost lost it.

"He's holding my trunks, my shoulder was up! He's a cheater McMahon"

Then after the match when Owen clobbers Mero with his cast, Vince demands Owen explain his actions and Owen without missing a beat says he slipped off the apron on his way to congratulate him on his victory.

  6. My point wasn't that they couldn't work a 3 minute match (though, they're being in a developmental program would be the best place for them if they couldn't.) My point was that you wouldn't want them to work longer.

Mojo "I Don't Get Hyped, I Stay Hyped" Rawley is doing a caffeinated version of The Ultimate Warrior. It doesn't benefit his gimmick to have longer matches at this stage--he comes out, he runs around and shouts, he makes short work of his opponent, e runs around and shouts and leaves...that's all anyone wants.

And The Ascension is the power tag team. They come out, they squash their opponents, they rue the fact that they have no opposition. More so than Mojo Rawley, it seems clear that The Ascension COULD go longer...but that wouldn't help them get over.

It may be a matter of personal taste. I grew up with AWA All-Star Wrestling--tons of squash matches over jobbers. I came back to wrestling with the rise of Goldberg in WCW. Maybe I like NXT because *I* don't like "wrestling" all that much. Fair cop.

...but, the truth is, in an hour of NXT, I can see five matches that entertain me, don't overstay their welcome and help get those wrestlers over...OR...I can watch TNA Impact and watch 4 matches in two hours and be bored silly.

    I'll choose NXT every time.

You feel good about yourself? You feel good just whoring your goods and wares on the BOD? Do your parents know you whore like this? I haven't seen this much whoring since I went to a hour house with a bunch of 100's stuck in my underware! WHORE! Book looks good though, I'll be getting it as it'll serve as a nice cheat sheet of what matches/segments to watch on The Network. By the way, just wondering, how much of that $3.99 do you get to keep and how much does your pimp...I mean Amazon take?

They take 30% plus a few extra cents depending on the size of the file. It's not that bad. Thanks for checking it out.

Really? That sucks, I thought Wright would have done well directing it. I just REALLY REALLY hope they don't have him be a wife beater in the movie.

I'm going to say it's going to be it's own brand of trainwreck. By the way, I don't think any of the trainwreck aspect will be due to Affleck, I think he'll make a solid Batman. I just think they are going to try and cram WAY too much stuff in at once with having to introduce Batman, Wonder Women, Cyborg and Luthor while also doing everything in it's power to set up for the Justice League movie. MOS didn't do anything for me and I have a feeling this is going to follow suit. It'll do well at the box office, sure but I have very little expectations of this being good.

That's been EVERY X-Men movie save for First Class. Can't say I blame them though, Wolverine is their meal ticket.

I like how the Marvel movies made it their own and didn't try to copy Nolan by making those movies dark and gritty. Yes, can the movies go into dark territory, like Cap 2 and certain parts of the Iron Man films but that's not the ENTIRE tone.

On the subject of Martian Manhunter. Aquaman<Martian Manhunter.

By the way, did anybody else just sit back in wonderment as freaking KNOWHERE was in the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer? This movie is bringing things together I NEVER thought I would see in a movie.

  21. Exactly.
"What's Owen Hart doing in the Impact Zone, Tazz?"
    I'd take it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I remember Austin telling that story on his podcast. He said he was at ringside and had to hide his face in the apron because he was laughing so hard.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Owen and McMahon also had some greater banter on commentary during a RAW episode in the summer of 1996. McMahon interrogates Owen about having a cast forever and claiming that Owen's arm is going to rot off if he stays on there any longer.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I always loved Owen's "woo"! I remember that he loved to lock up with a wrestler and after it was a draw, he'd pull away and raise his hands in victory and yell. Cracked me up every time.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Goyer sounds like a bit of a tool at the moment. Maybe he's just pissed about Ben's boy from Argo rewriting his script.
Man, the more info they release about Bats vs Supes the more I get concerned. They really seem trying to catch Marvel in 3-4 films, which just isn't possible.
Marvel has done things so well for so long, from the start, and depending on what you believe, have shit figured out for another 10-15 years.
A Man of Steel sequel where the first word in the title is Batman just bothers me a bit.

  26. I demand a Cosmo cameo!

  27. well William Maston was beyond a freak in his personal life if you do not know you should look it up its kind of mind blowing

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thing is, I wouldn't call either parts of the Iron Man movies or Cap 2 "dark" or "gritty." Mature, maybe, but not dark. Cap 2 is probably the best example of how to do a mature movie without necessarily going dark with it.

    Lol'ed legit.

  30. The only difference between Owen and Chris Benoit was the circumstances of their deaths.

    ReplyDelete
  31. He still was at this point.

I think it was until late 87 to be honest

    ReplyDelete
  32. Realistically how strong is Drax? Is he a planet smasher like Hulk, or is that gone with the Power Gem?

    ReplyDelete
  33. This was one of 2 PPVs of the era that I didn't watch live.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think it wad Ebert who said, "It's not realistic, because how could it be? But it treats itself like it is." I thought that was a perfect description of Batman Begins.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Only if he stuck around active for years.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I always considered 25 "old" like that was when you had to straighten up and fly right. My 25th birthday was the hardest birthday I've ever had and I'm almost 35.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's been gone since he was reborn...again in his new leaner body.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dude gets a lot of shots.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's a reference to Bret writing in his book how people were always telling him his matches were there favorite, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I remember reading the results online and thinking I couldn't believe that people were falling for such a stunt, as a faked death. Then I went to a website I trusted at the time, and was just stunned.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think once we get to the point of seeing guys like Benoit, Jericho, and Guerrero get title wins, it would've been entirely possible for Owen to get in on that mix.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think there's a really good chance Bret would have came back a long, long time before he did had Owen left.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I haven't seen that Owen-Bulldog match in a long time, but I remember loving it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's funny...because outside of romantic comedies from the late 90, early 00s, Affleck has been consistently great.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wolverine is the John Cena of the Xmen movies.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He's got a god as his guardian angel, so that's something for the ol resume.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Daredevil? I haven't seen it but know it has a generally bad reputation and seemed to be one of the main reasons for some people complaining about Affleck's casting in another superhero movie. Perhaps the people I follow on Twitter just happened to be more negative on Affleck as Batman than the general population.

Regardless of one's opinion on Affleck's acting ability, I think it will be difficult to please some fans when replacing Christian Bale's memorable performance only a few years after the end of the Nolan trilogy.

    ReplyDelete
  48. "Daredevil" is lot better than many people claim it is.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ordered the book.
