Scott,
Thought this would be some fun discussion for you and the blog. Which theme song you liked best for each wrestler:
Austin
Clearly the classic is the best. When you hear the glass, it’s your ass.
Eddie Guerrero
I’m partial to the “Lie/Cheat/Steal” theme myself, but they were all pretty close.
Rey Mysterio
The one that goes “Booyaka” took me a while, but I think it’s the best one now. The energy just matches him so well.
Randy Orton
Has he had anything other than “Voices”? I honestly don’t remember.
HHH
OUR TIME.
Trish Stratus
The classic one. I’m not a fan of whatever she’s been using in her various comeback appearances.
CM Punk
I HATE that screamo bullshit, so Cult of Personality is the only choice for me.
The Rock
Really, he’s had a million different mixes of the same basic thing, but the one he was using by 2000 is the best combination of factors for me. Once they nailed down the “If you SMELLLLL” at the beginning, the rest was easy.
Christian
The operatic one with the curtain of pyro.
Edge
Hasn’t he really only had two? “You Think You Know Me” and “Metallingus”? Given I was a fan of the band, I’ll go with the latter.
The only correct Eddie answer is his heel WCW theme. The one that Chavo swiped in WWE.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Rock one but I also loved the extended Hollywood Rock entrance.
ReplyDeleteRandy had "Burn in My Light" which I thought was always better than "Voices"
ReplyDeleteI think it's safe to say that Ziggler is a mid carder for life at this point.
ReplyDeleteHe's been Kofied.
Mysterio: Hated them all. His Filthy Animals one is the closest to decent
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6o-f8c4S9Q
Orton: Burn in my light is a better theme than voices. Voices fits the character better but it's just a really bad song.
Punk: Cult of personality fits the character way better (especially for heel Punk) but the Killswitch Engage version allows for such better crowd interaction. Punk's music hitting in Chicago or any other smark-heavy town with that theme is just too good.
http://youtu.be/peMpm_HPewQ?t=3m55s
Rock: Hollywood Rock, by far
Edge: He also had the Rob Zombie theme which didn't fit the character at all. If we can cheat and use stable themes, the Gangrel/Brood theme was the best one just because I loved the hell out of that theme. He had an unused one (coming home) that was pretty good also.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpfegoN3zXE
Whoever came up with giving Flair Also Sparch Zarathustra was a genius, is just fit him perfectly in his NWA champion pride.
ReplyDeleteAlso, "Pomp and Circumstance" was perfect for Savage, the way he'd come in and got better when he took on the regal gimmick as Macho King.
Warrior. Even that "Self-Destruction" DVD had guys noting that a key to Ultimate Warrior's fast rise was his awesome theme song, that rocking guitar and tune as he'd charge out unleashed.
Finally, Goldberg's original WCW theme was great, the pounding drums and enhanced his fantastic entrance through the pyro.
If you had to pick one theme song to be your theme song from past or present used in wrestling, what would you choose?
ReplyDeleteI think I'd go with Mr. Perfect.
Edge used Rob Zombie's "Never Gonna Stop" for a few years. Not a Zombie fan.
ReplyDeleteI liked that one. I have it in a workout mix.
ReplyDeleteCult of Personality for me.
ReplyDeleteReal Americans theme.
ReplyDeleteBilly Gunn -- Ass man
ReplyDeleteEdge's "Never Gonna Stop" was such a main eventer's theme. It's a shame he only used it from 2001 - only a few appearances after he returned in 2004.
ReplyDeleteHEY! NOTHING YOU CAN SAY!
ReplyDeleteRandy's first theme is EASILY the worst theme of all time. Just fucking dreadful
HATED it. Metallingus fit him perfectly.
ReplyDeleteWierd that in some early Rockers matches they come out to Warrior's music.
ReplyDeleteThe only great thing about that theme was that he was given it AFTER he finally became World Champion. Batista had a theme song before he did.
ReplyDeleteMetallingus is one of the best themes of all time IMO
ReplyDeleteAustin.
ReplyDeleteBurn in My Light was good for him during his Age of Orton phase, wouldn't really make sense with his Viper gimmick.
ReplyDeleteThe Low Rider knock off?
ReplyDeleteI'm probably the only one who likes the hollywood blondes theme better than the breaking glass for Austin. . .
ReplyDeleteYeah.
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the Rock's 1998 heel theme with the "Do you smell what the rock is cooking" intro.
ReplyDeleteRock: his heel versions are best, "Do you know what the Rock is cooking?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6cm7V9RE7U, and the super long Hollywood Rock version where all he says is "Is...cooking".
ReplyDeleteTriple H is a hard call. I like the Game and My Time. The Game is more explosive and hardcore, especially with the awesome intro, but the ridiculous lyrics (awesome in a stupid "what did I just hear way). My Time overall has a better riff, along with an attitude of a punk trouble maker.
Edge: Metallingus hands down.
CM Punk: Hard to go against Cult of Personality after these last few years.
Orton: Voices. Utterly ridiculous, but it works for him.
Who cares about Ziggler? Send him down to NXT to be the perennial champion.
ReplyDeleteVoodoo Child. I'm not nearly cool enough for it however.
ReplyDeleteCM Punk: AFI's "Miseria Cantare." One of the best entrance themes EVER! *boom boom ba-BOOM!*
ReplyDeleteOthers:
Austin: Classic
Eddie: Lie/Cheat/Steal
Rey: WHO'S DAT JUMPIN' OUT DA SKY, R-E-Y MYSTERIO.. HERE WE GO..
Randy: HEY!
HHH: The Game
Trish: The generic theme she hated just before she switched to Lil Kim. They used it in WWE 13 which is awesome
The Rock: Summerslam '98! It was on WWF The Music Vol. 3. The New Nation theme, only way the fuck better
Christian: AT LAST.. YOU'RE ON YOUR OWWWWWWWWWWWN!!!
Edge: Never Gonna Stop.
Victoria: GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO!
ReplyDeleteGO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! GO!
ReplyDelete"Christian! Christian! At last - you're on - your OWN!"
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite themes ever.
Austin: Disturbed "Glass Shattering"
ReplyDeleteEddie: Lie/Cheat/Steal
Rey Mysterio: Can't even remember anything other than Booyakai.
Randy Orton: This Fire Burns
HHH: King of Kings
Trish Stratus: Time to Rock and Roll
CM Punk: Cult of Personality
The Rock: Helicopter Theme
Christian: Just Close Your Eyes
Edge: Metallingus
Bonus:
Charlotte's new theme is my favorite new song since Glass Shattering.
Austin's classic theme was my favorite but the Disturbed version was good too. Hollywood Rock theme was great. Also was a huge fan of Our Time.
ReplyDeleteI'm a go with my bad self. (refrain)
ReplyDeleteIt was a great *babyface* main eventer's theme. Metalingus fit the heel persona infinitely better. But your point is well-taken.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that Konnan's Music Video gets no love here. Oil of Olay, all day y every day!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I think Ziggler's over-ness is partially because of the perception that's being (or has been) held down. Fans love to think they're sticking it to the office with their support of certain wrestlers. I think Punk and Bryan really benefited from this too.
ReplyDeleteWhich isn't to say that that makes his over-ness any less valid -- if you're over, you're over, period.
The Mountie's original theme, the one before "I Am the Mountie".
ReplyDeleteMan, "This Fire Burns" use to (and still) gets me pumped.
ReplyDeleteI like Ziggler, but he's never going anywhere. Sadly, he'll keep beating the shit out of himself, all for naught (besides the paycheck, of course).
ReplyDelete:in the goes:
ReplyDeleteuh huh, uh huh yeah yeah.
I have no idea why WWE 2k14 gave Eddie that dumb car entrance and the "Latino Heat" theme over Lie, Cheat, Steal.
ReplyDeleteRegal's Real Man's Man.
ReplyDeleteI youtube'd this song after seeing this and totally didn't realize that Nicki Minaj pre-game did the rapping portion.
ReplyDeleteShe did?!?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isq7qA9RGQI
ReplyDeleteIt's either her or someone who sounds identical to her.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzYu8YCK6t4
ReplyDeleteGOAT Rey theme.
I JUST LOOKED UP THE GROUP!
ReplyDeleteSHE WAS IN IT!
I have always liked "The Game" more than "My Time" for HHH, even after 13 years of him using it. The opening chord, his entrance timed to the music (spitting out the water, etc.) "My Time" has the same singer (Chris Warren?) at the D-X theme, right? I don't dislike it, but have never understood why it is so loved. Is it because it's from a time when HHH was fantastic and not the political asshole?
ReplyDelete"Cult of Personality" is perfect for Punk, especially with the static at the start, but hearing the beginning of "This Fire Burns" with that scream, especially at MITB 2011, is pretty damn awesome.
While I love Austin's classic-and-current theme, I always enjoyed the Disturbed version as well.
Basic Thuganomics. Deal with it.
ReplyDeleteRemember this one time only (Backlash 2000) HHH theme, in-between the DX theme and "My Time?" How more generic can you get?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw8VWACacjk
ReplyDeleteThe first opera theme Christian had, when he debuted with the golden shower pyro and sounded like a Jimmy Hart'd Bohemian Rhapsody, was fucking boss, as was the more familiar theme he got soon after.
ReplyDeleteCHRISTIAAAAAN! CHRISTIAAAAAAN!
I'd imagine so, yes
ReplyDeleteYESSSSS
ReplyDeleteCM Punk made it to the top of the WWE by never shutting his mouth. Maybe Ziggler thought it would be a winning strategy for him.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Edge theme was the Rob Zombie version.
ReplyDeleteI don't really follow dirtsheet news, what has Ziggler said? I can't recall any incidents like Mr Kennedy's interview about steroids.
ReplyDeleteOne of the greatest theme's ever.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Undertaker?
ReplyDeleteI liked Christians "Just Close Your Eyes" when the girl sang.
ReplyDeleteI'm always partial to Rocky's 98 theme, where it was the quieter version of his usual mix. Something about that low guitar riffing as he sauntered out was awesome, although the intro to his Hollywood Heel theme was awesome, gave me goosebumps.
ReplyDeleteWeird, I usually sing that TO girls.
ReplyDeleteMr Perfect's theme fit him perfectly...
ReplyDeleteLet's follow this discussion up with Most Wasted themes.
ReplyDeleteI still think Gangrel's takes the cake: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=idi4ThBQnic&feature=kp
Awesome theme wasted by a shitty wrestler.
I would also like to add Matt Hardy's Matt Version 1.0 theme. "Ohhhhh Yeahhhhh". Not that the theme was wasted but the original concept of the gimmick was so awesome with Shannon Moore as his MFer. It was getting too over so they had to ruin it.
Same goes for Christian's first theme and push. Well, every push. They didn't decide to stick with pushing him until he was way past his prime. And even then he was still never allowed to beat Randy Orton.
Basically he goes on Twitter and criticizes company storylines while bitching about how he's getting held down.
ReplyDeleteEcstasy of Gold or undertakers later 98 theme.
ReplyDeleteMordecai's theme (and entrance) were awesome; wasted on a wrestler greener than the Jolly Green Giant
ReplyDeleteThe best thing he could do is stop selling. No matter what your attitude is, if your best attribute is making other people look good, you're going to make other people look good.
ReplyDelete1997-98
ReplyDeleteYeh, and the drums in the background. Just really cool. That was always my favourite, too.
ReplyDeleteIt suited him so well. "Do you smell what the Rock is cookin'?" *bam bam bam, guitar riff*
When he was gassed to the gills. Remember his 04 return where he was fucking huge?
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI also quite liked his generic theme when he turned heel/singles. Might have been after that one, in fact..
I seem to remember for ONE episode of Raw around 1998, The Rock came out to a version of his theme where it was a generic ripoff of the beat from Biggie Smalls "Hypnotize"
ReplyDeleteThat's my favorite Rock theme too. It doesn't have the energy of the music they gave him when he went full-fledged babyface, but that '98 music matched his heel swagger perfectly.
ReplyDeleteHis Alliance (shudder) theme was also actually pretty decent, but it was never going to live up to his face theme, but I think that was kind of the point.
ReplyDeleteI thought it quite suited his paranoid persona. It sounded really thrashy and zany.
*Backlash 1999
ReplyDeleteRey also had 'WHO'S that jumpin' out the sky, R-E-Y, Mysterioooo, here we gooo'.
ReplyDeleteSpot on with the two Rocky themes.
ReplyDeleteI never cared for the overproduced/electronic ones.
I wish he would have kept the first guitar riff theme he had from 98 for the rest of his career.
ReplyDeleteThat is an AWESOME theme, to be fair. Deserves a mention. Vintage WCW:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4FAqqBFSYg
The Zombie theme was pre-04.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I always preferred Batista's first theme. Really cool. Quite scary sounding. Then they glammed it up with a proper band and stuff, which is alright, but I just preferred the original:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbvOeMTGngw
Considering my favorite Edge incarnation was his mid-card time, I'm more fond of the Rob Zombie theme.
ReplyDeleteI'll take Disturbed version of Austin's theme, that just took his entrance to another level IMO. I wish he kept that version, it was difficult to adjust going back to his original in latter years.
ReplyDeleteStrangly with CM Punk, I'm no fan of screamo, but the Killswitch Engaged theme absolutely suited him too a tee.. and actually goes better with his post pipe bomb IMO. Yet Cult Of Personality is still awesome and without doubt a much better song.
In terms of Matt, it was idiotic that he lost to Zach Gowen.
ReplyDeleteWould be cool to have a topic based on rare versions of theme songs.
ReplyDeleteI miss the days not knowing Batista was really nearly 40.
ReplyDeleteI hated the Disturbed theme at the time, but looking back, it was awesome. It's a go to song for me during workouts lol.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the "Bionic Redneck" theme Stone Cold had for like 2 weeks when he was a heel in 2001:
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/0Wq1AzD8G9g
Of his usual themes, the Disturbed version always stood out to me more than the classic.
The one after he turned heel in 98.
ReplyDeleteWrong, CM Punk knew exactly WHEN to play the game and that's why a tremendous asshole like him has made it as far as he has, but no further. Dolph has no filter.
ReplyDeleteI hated when they didn't give a shit about the rights of songs and during say, Royal Rumble 2001, Austin came out to his original theme,
ReplyDeleteThe one I really hated was "Venemous"
If that one had kicked in a little earlier, it'd be decent.
ReplyDeleteDon't even remember this one. Thanks.
I liked that quite a lot. I think it really suited his paranoid persona.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing loads of stunners and chairshots set to Disturbed.
ReplyDeleteThis was never used, but check out this fucking awesome cover. I listen to this a lot, and he easily could have used this during the AE:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRf749a9OF8
Agreed on Goldberg. I wish WWE hadn't messed with it when he came in, then dubbed over his WCW matches on the DVD with the WWE version of the theme.
ReplyDeleteCheck out this badass versions of themes this band called Traumatosis do. I particularly love Taker's, Kane's, and Jeff Hardy's:
ReplyDeleteTaker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRf749a9OF8
Kane - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhLovKCseho
Jeff Hardy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbyP0lOCKgI
Raven - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i6eFLFJMZI
Abyss - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfThU6TobFo
Yeh, sorry. I'm just rambling cos i've been working all night, man.
ReplyDeleteIs your sister Tracy Brooks? Get over it!!! Everyone fucked her!!
ReplyDeleteIMA GO PULL MY PANTS UP
ReplyDeletePULL MY PANTS UP
PULL MY PANTS UP
BTW, fuck SCSA's Disturbed theme.
ReplyDeleteI'M BAKING THE LEMON INSIDE YOU!
Which is why his late 2001-2002 face run was meh. He was a face but he was still paranoid and it was just annoying.
ReplyDeleteI was watching lucha libre the other day (I think it was CMLL) and one of the guys uses Chris Benoit's theme. Didn't think I'd ever hear that again on a wrestling show.
ReplyDeleteIn HBK's book he was told that.
ReplyDeleteAnyone pick up that Christians current theme sounds ridiculously like Christian rock music? Hope there was no attempt and wit there. It's awful.
ReplyDeleteThat match Ziggler had with Batista on Smackdown a couple weeks ago was really good and could've been the start of a push back toward the upper card, but it doesn't look like WWE's done anything notable with him since.
ReplyDeleteWell, they've already used Skillet for PPV themes, so maybe it's a company-wide thing?
ReplyDelete*has flashbacks to Bible camp where they'd actually bring Christian rock bands to play for us*
You don't let a good theme go to waste just because some guy kills his family and himself and mars his entire industry along with it.
ReplyDeleteI miss Batista's entrance cabbage-patching.
ReplyDeleteFinally, Goldberg's original WCW theme was great, the pounding drums and enhanced his fantastic entrance through the pyro.
ReplyDeletePat Tanaka agrees.
He's not thaaat bad yet
ReplyDeleteAustin's easily.
ReplyDeleteEither 97, 98 or Disturbed version would be great.
It's because of WWE that I'm a fan of Skillet now.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the better of the 2 versions.
ReplyDeleteI have both of the Skillet songs used for PPVs on my iPod. I've gotten into a couple of bands thanks to PPV themes, esp. Soundtrack of Our Lives (WM21), which is now one of my fav bands period.
ReplyDeleteMetallingus might be my favorite entrance music with lyrics in it. It's polarizing effect makes me love it that much more. I don't even like rock music either, but Edge looked fucking awesome with the stream pyro (whatever that stuff was) and that song blaring in the background.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I was off by a year. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBTW, if you're interested in the whereabouts of Mark Jindrak, he's in CMLL wrestling as Marco Corleone.
ReplyDeleteI love that one backstage segment where he's chilling with Alter Bridge and some face comes up to him and Edge is all HOW DARE YOU INTERRUPT ALTER BRIDGE! THESE GUYS SING MY THEME SONG!
ReplyDeleteWho's Mark Jindrak? /Tomko
ReplyDeleteThey got Chibi from the Birthday Massacre to do a theme for some female wrestler, Katie Burchill I think.
ReplyDeleteHUGE Ziggler fan. Ziggler is a bump machine but has the same curse as Curt Hennig:
ReplyDeleteA) Great heel. But too small to work any main event program besides "chickenshit heel" and that doesn't have a big main event shelf life.
B) Gets good smark babyface pops but does not work as a main event face for mainstream crowds. Looks like and should be a heel.
C) Mid-card 4 Life. That's not a bad thing.
Facts.
Turning point for me was Ziggler being denied the Superkick as a finisher, "SHADES OF THE GREAT SHAWN MICHAELS" would have carried him up the card and given him a start at building credibility...instead he's still using the Zig-Zag.
ReplyDeleteKillswitch Engage are not "screamo" and they are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'ma do this too. Because.
ReplyDeleteAustin: Disturbed. I saw him live at a house show in '01 and the energy when that song peaks as he climbs the turnbuckles gave me a total fangasm. Like... real shivers and shit.
Eddie Guerrero: One he used only a few times, right after his 2005 heel turn. It's the first one that started with the phone ringing, before they morphed the "lie, cheat, steal" lyrics into it and ruined it. Here, it's called "Gangsta Lean," not Lane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKzgm4jI21s
Mysterio: I hate his WWE themes, but Booyaka does fit him.
Orton: Voices. Waste of an awesome theme song, like McIntyre's old one.
Triple H: Survivor Series 2000. Listen at 0:50 and you'll see why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Zw_2CloPPI
Trish: The one after T&A, the one before "Keys."
Punk: Duh.
The Rock: His first custom Nation theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiiJtZ88DB8
Christian: The one he used right during the haircut/Intercontinental title feud with Booker T era: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGOorfeylsM
Edge: I dug Rob Zombie's "Never Gonna Stop," but Metalingus kicks too much ass to say anything else.
Killswitch Engage isn't screamo.
ReplyDeletetazz's original wwe theme > whatever he switched to in '02
ReplyDeletei actually liked the original tough enough theme (later maven's)
adam rose's original theme > the knockoff
bret's classic theme = his post-making amends theme remix; both work great
corporate ministry is awesome
sting's early 90's wcw theme > man called sting (yeah, i went there)
golbderg's classic wcw theme > stupid slowed down wwe remix
x-factor > ...i'm just kidding, it's the worst theme song ever (well, i dunno actually... there's rvd's tna theme, scotty too hotty/droz's theme, and simply b/c it didnt fit, curt hennig's "surfing with the alien" ripoff)
metalcore, close enough to get the point across
ReplyDeletewhy do so many japanese wrestlers have themes that sound like awesome 80's soundtrack rock?
ReplyDeleteYou have Ziggler claiming the Superkick as his own and calling himself the second coming of Shawn Michaels you got a ready made program with Daniel Bryan right there.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked RVD's TNA theme. Current-day, though, too many of TNA's themes sound the same. Bobby Roode and EC3's themes are good in that they fit the character. DJ Z's theme for the Bro Mans (when he does it himself) makes me laugh.
ReplyDeletewhile I agree that many within the company see it that way, it is still stupid. someone like Ricky Morton made a career out of getting beat up.
ReplyDeletebeing the guy who gets convincingly gets beat to pulp also allows for a better comeback. I don't know why seemingly so many "backstage people" fail to realize that.
the Zig-Zag looks like nothing more than a transition move. I don't get why the jumping ddt, which imo looks a lot more spectacular and dangerous, is not his finishing move (if we only go by moves he already has in his moveset).
ReplyDeleteI don't think B is correct that way. he might not got a superb reaction, but he is well received pretty much anywhere now.
ReplyDeleteand C wouldn't be that bad if the midcard would still matter. someone like Perfect (or Roberts or dozens others) are "legends" despite hardly ever working a main event program in the WWF. I doubt that todays midcarders are gonna have the same reputation in the future.
Hate Bret's remixed theme. You don't mess with the classics!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25rkAzEbXxM
ReplyDeleteExactly, the Superkick could have been so much to his career
ReplyDeleteRVD's TNA theme was the king of so-bad-it's-fucking-awesome.
ReplyDeleteROB VAN DAM!....THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW!
Ha, that was great, I hadn't seen it since it aired. Edge was a pretty awesome heel.
ReplyDeleteI feel the need to mention WWF The Music Vol 3.
ReplyDeleteIt features unquestionably the best themes used by both the Undertaker and The Rock, despite them only being used briefly on TV.
Always felt Taker should have used that theme on his return in 04.
http://youtu.be/Ysw2M3SSC50
Venomous was awesome!
ReplyDeleteHis best theme imo, and as that other guy said it really fitted his character at the time.
"Dolph Ziggler" is a terrible name. His merch has a horrible 80's throwback look. He oversells to the point of being cartoonish. And his finisher sucks.
ReplyDeleteDan Severn's theme. Straight badassery.
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/sp7aGkiflwY
Anyone else like Awesome Truth theme? Can't go wrong with R-Truth insulting the crowd en route to the ring
ReplyDeletea good example that just being "similar" sometimes isn't enough. the WWE version does sound similar but still manages to be a lot worse.
ReplyDeleteDan Severns mid 1998 theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIrgg2uu0L8
ReplyDeleteor Big Bubba Rogers 1995 theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP8d8h-GZbc
both of them are so badass.
Edge also had the awesome Rob Zombie song "Never gonna stop me"
ReplyDeleteI am not sure, but I remember that someone else in WCW had this theme, too (afair at a later time).
ReplyDeletefor me every Undertaker theme after his first "dong"-theme was just too overblown with too many added things.
ReplyDeleteRick Rudes WCW theme ("he's simply ravishing....") = his WWF theme.
ReplyDeleteI could not pick a "winner" there. I think both of them are awesome for different reasons.
Agreed! I hated hearing that remix when he came back.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's already been said, but Rock's heel theme in 2003 was awesome, too.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Undertaker theme is the one he used around SummerSlam 98. Shame he didn't stick with it longer.
ReplyDeleteAccording to that source in another thread, he's supposedly making around $550K a year. He would obviously love to be a main event guy, making a lot more, but that's nothing to sneeze at, either.
ReplyDeleteRush is the name of the wrestler who uses Benoit's theme.
ReplyDeleteYep, with the "Hollywoood" tron. That one was definitely a nice change of pace.
ReplyDeleteThe slower one with "Trust Me" at the beginning is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteSting'a late 80's-early 90's theme DESTROYS "Man Called Sting". And I prefer it to Warrior's theme, although they're quite close.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that tron was just so fucking pretentious. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteI doubt most mid-carders care if they have the same reputation. Many are just there to get paid.
ReplyDeleteI think I disagree on all Scott's choices.
ReplyDeleteEddie - his WCW "Low Rider" theme was clearly the best.
Randy Orton - The Evolution theme
Triple H - his Motorhead theme is the best ever in wrestling
CM Punk - The Killswitch Engage theme was perfect for him.
The Rock - Hollywood Rock theme
Since Gangrel's theme was mentioned a few times, I feel it's only fair to bring up his rap remix theme that he used on the indies:

It takes a little while to get going, but whoever did this actually managed to make his theme even catchier.
Nah, I thought it was a nice upgrade at the time. I still enjoy it but the classic can't be beaten.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why they won't (or can't?) use that original version of the theme. Did Jimmy Hart write it or something?
ReplyDeleteLOVE simply ravishing. Best of those goofy new themes they had for the WCW guys in 1993 .
ReplyDeleteI like both of punk's wwe themes but I think Cult of Personality has a better opening riff, so I'll go with that. I also liked the AFI song he used in ROH and how the crowd would slap the barricade to the beat. Always thought that was cool.
ReplyDeleteThe Hollywood Rock theme with the helicopter opening video is one of my favorite themes ever. They nailed it.
I've never liked any of Edge's theme songs, personally.
Agree on all but Orton and I think that the Evo theme was the best. Rock I could also go Hollywood Rock depending on the day. Rey's theme's have all stunk. So really I guess I'm not totally in line with The Boss.
ReplyDeleteOther than the giggling at the beginning I don't remember Trish's theme at all.
I liked when he was coming down to silence as a protest or whatever.
ReplyDeleteCan we all agree that X-Factor had the worst theme song in all of wrestling?
ReplyDeleteHAS he stayed over, though?
ReplyDeleteI always thought it was ironic that he and ADR had their best matches with each other, because they're the same worker in my eyes: good to great in the ring, adequate on the mic, but totally lacking the x-factor that gets people truly invested in them.
My Time and The Game are both great songs, perfectly matched to the character as he evolved.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The Superkick can be taken as a finish now. The ZigZag, every time, looks like him going for something else, the opponent getting confused and them trying to desperately cover a botch. AWFUL move, especially for a finish.
ReplyDeleteTrish's theme went, "oh, it's time to rock and roll, this time I'm in control."
ReplyDeleteThis is me at age 28. Typing the lyrics to Trish Stratus' theme song while I take a shit.
Oh yeah, ok, I do remember that now.
ReplyDeleteAs simple as it was, I always really like the NOD theme post PG-13 rapping.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to do a comparison of Rock's themes, this guy is all over it for you.

I liked "You Think You Know Me" okay, I guess. To be honest, though, I've never been much of an Edge fan, though.
ReplyDeleteEspecially since that theme was faster, maybe he would've gotten his ass to the ring in less than 5 minutes.
ReplyDeleteThe Edge and Christian singing over kazoos is the best version of You Think You Know Me
ReplyDeleteWasn't that the precursor to the Ministry theme?
ReplyDeleteWell, it happened on Sunday Night Heat, so no one remembers it.
ReplyDeleteI liked how ridiculous the Hollywood theme was at Now Way Out 2003: "If you smell... if you smell... IF YA SMELL LALALALALALALALA LOOK AT THE TONGUE LOOK AT THE TONGUE LOOK AT THE TONGUE!!!!!"
ReplyDeleteThe American Males strongly disagree.
ReplyDeleteWell, John Cena killed that as a finisher dead when he kicked out of it thirty times during his feud with Ziggler.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the porn sounding theme she used before that one
ReplyDeleteNice. Couple I hadn't heard there.
ReplyDelete9 is interesting.
10 is the best.
Not gonna lie. I have Rude's WCW theme on my iPod. The faces from people at work when it plays is priceless.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember Mankind having a bad remix of his theme in 1999?
ReplyDeleteIt's just last 90's'd up, WWF style haha
ReplyDeleteThat song sucked.
ReplyDeleteIs everyone serious digging that?
To me, he's our Mr. Perfect: great worker, good look, solid mid-card guy. Doesn't really need to be a world title guy, but can be put in there in case of an emergency(injury, etc.)
ReplyDeleteRandom remark is... very random.
ReplyDeleteImagine Jericho in his "serious" heel persona from a few years back, coming out to this shit.....

The Game and King of Kings has Lemmy. End of discussion in regards to HHH's theme music.
ReplyDeleteTrying to figure out why he thinks punk is a "tremendous asshole"
ReplyDeleteI've been watching a shit ton of old WCW since I got the Network and my fiancee is like, "who is that dude with all of the chicks airbrushed on his tights and he has awesome music?" If Rick Rude wasn't dead I'd be afraid for my relationship.
ReplyDeleteIf it's not Geddy Lee, it's not Rush.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of adding things, it took them like a year to finish his in-house Bikertaker theme. First it was backing, then he got some leads, and finally vocals. What was the deal with that?
ReplyDeleteA song so awesome it's start is my ringtone and has been since it came out. Just a great song to match edge
