Guess the WWE Network Subscription Number Contest

Tomorrow, the WWE will announce the Network subscription numbers. For this occasion, I thought that I would hold a little contest. The person who is closest to guessing the exact total subscriber amount without going over will win the contest. The winner will get to select the shoot interview that I will review on August 14th (next week I will be recapping the 1992 WWE Timeline with Bret Hart) and will also get my copy of interview as well along with some other random wrestling stuff. To make your prediction, just post it in the comments section by 9am EST tomorrow. And just for the fun of it, here is my prediction: 697,000

To note, on April 7th, the company announced that they had 667,287 subscribers.

Good luck to everyone.

  13. He clearly beat the bottom out of Dixie

    ReplyDelete
  14. Too little, too late. The fact that Dixie suggested a "break" meant they would still be interested in keeping him. That's crazy, that they think Spike is that stupid to just say "don't rehire him until AFTER we've completed the deal".

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah. Or Sheamus...or HBK...or whatever Meltzer rumor was floating in a given week

    ReplyDelete
  16. What was the total at the last total that was released?
Anyway, give me 747,206 subscribers. For the WWE's sake, I hope it's a lot more.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Delightful, it's like when all the dumbshits on The View got fired a few weeks ago and Jenny McCarthy tweeted about how she actually decided to leave in solidarity with everyone else and totally didn't get fired at all.

  18. Does anyone else kinda wish Russo was Benoit's houseguest back in June 2007?

    ReplyDelete
  19. On April 7th they had 667,287 subscribers

    ReplyDelete
  20. Been closing the gate since day one?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I joked about this earlier in the thread. People acting like this is great news should realize that Dixie probably just wants to bring him back after Spike inks them to a new deal.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't know how to fit in a Big Boss Man joke in here.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Vince Russo is a terrible fucking person. "Finality was better for me."

I hope it's not a case of "too little, too later" for TNA.... but it probably is.

Now I guess we officially know that he was working for them.

  32. Are you taking math lessons from Scott Steiner?

10% of WWE is not good, but it's not 100% of TNA,

    ReplyDelete
  33. I really don't understand how. He's been ruining wrestling companies since 1999. Why can't they see that?

    ReplyDelete
  34. A case of dumbassness?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Optimistic... 810,400.

  36. I thought he was referencing Dusty: "I've dined with king and queens in a Dunkin Donuts, and eaten pork and beans sitting in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot."

  37. They can't afford a real office at this time, it's the best they got.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Apropos of nothing, I miss 80s and 90s tv theme songs. They seemed to go all out with them with expository lyrics or just a badass instrumental. And for the hell of it, let's match some themes with some wrestlers:
-HHH: Hunter (the Fred Dryer show) or Sledgehammer (if you haven't seen the show, shame on you)
-If Cody Rhodes grows the mustache back: Magnum PI
    -David Otunga: LA Law
-Xavier Woods: Doogie Howser (because he's getting his doctorate)
-Rybaxel: the A-Team (just think it'd be funny)
-Daniel Bryan for his ability to create a 4 star match with just a piece of chewing gum and a paper clip: MacGyver

    ReplyDelete
  39. It would help explain what took place.....

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sounds like he may need some royalties.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey, they couldn't fire me, I don't work there.

    ReplyDelete
  42. With all the promotion of the channel, I think they have added at least 100,000 people to the subscription list. I'm going with 805,000.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Remember Charlie Reneke? He went on a rant once about replays in the middle of the match ruining the flow of the match, and how unnecessary it was because it (was) 2011 and nearly everyone is watching on a DVR and can rewind that shit themselves anyway. Not sure that's exactly what you are talking aboout but it's a point to be made.

    ReplyDelete
  44. How do we keep Cena AND fire Cena?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah, I got that. But that doesn't mean another angle can't be done. Like serving hard time down in Cobb County GA.

    ReplyDelete
  46. There are three problems with Russo's tweet:
    1) He pretty much confirmed he was working for TNA, when Dixie and crew denied it
    2) He suggested Dixie would be fine for bringing him back, when Spike told them "DON'T HIRE THIS MAN", and
    3) He used this opportunity to promote his site.

    Self-serving and awful.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If only business would as well.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, I'm talking about all the crazy angles after impact moves and cameras zooming in and out. It's just nuts. I agree, though, on the replays.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Exactly. The brilliance of Heenan getting him "reinstated" and his best friend, Hulk Hogan, not going to bat for him was some of the great detail they could put in those major programs.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I can't believe I own one of his books now.

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's the curse of WWE never being off the air, there's no natural end point.

To me the secret to keeping both strong is in having character motivations beyond "I want to beat that guy / win that title".

To go back to the Foley/Orton example; Foley loses the feud but still comes out stronger than at the start of the angle. Why? Firstly, because he allowed himself to look incredibly weak when he was beat up and spat on so his end point looks conparetivly strong (take note John Cena). And secondly his character wasn't just defined by beating Orton, but rather by regaining his hardcore status. He may not have accomplished the former but he certainly did the latter therefore he looks strong.

Compare with Wyatt/Cena. Some entertaining moments in that feud to be sure but Wyatt comes out of it somewhat diminished because it was never defined what he was after beyond destroying Cena, something he failed to achieve

    ReplyDelete
  52. 693,173..Figured i'd use the Silverdome numbers from Wrestlemania 3.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I didn't even know Dunn hates NXT, that makes so much sense. I remember on an old Dave Lagana podcast he told a story of wanting Kerwin Stifles (sp?) to direct Smackdown to give it a different look, and Dunn just laughed and asked why Lagana wanted to take food out of his kid's mouths. My guess is he'll be hands on until he's fired, if ever.

    ReplyDelete
  54. All promotion is good promotion

    ReplyDelete
  55. Those are excellent points. If Dixie points to the tweet and says, "SEE!? We fired him!" Spike can say, "Well it looks like you were trying to keep him."

Seriously fuck Dixie. I love beating this dead horse but I wish it would just die already.

    ReplyDelete
  56. How is Tommy Dreamer a "smart wrestling guy?"

    ReplyDelete
  57. "If you ever take a trip right down to D and D,
It's not because you're getting the donuts served for free,
    You're in HARD TIME
    You've been served HARD TIME
You know your wallet's not enough to get in Starbucks' line,
You'd better leave a tip, cause they're serving HARD TIME".

  59. Fire him, then bring him back under a mask.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Love Sledgehammer. Bought the entire season on DVD for my brother once.

That should be available online.... somewhere....

    ReplyDelete
  61. It ends better than it begins.....

    ReplyDelete
  62. Technically, that already happened with the Juan Cena character.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Why did they have to bring Hogan in?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree with you there.

  69. That's one way to tell him Adam.

    ReplyDelete
  70. 1993, 1993...

McMemphis. Yeah, that was pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  71. This was almost as great as the end-credits scene to Guardians of the Galaxy!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I honestly wish someone would get Cena and HHH, for instance, to read the well-outlaid story arcs (TheLELGuy and stagger_gee) for Macho Man´s career and the Orton-Foley angle, as described below. Just as they are written. If they took the time to read them, then maybe, just maybe, they´d be inspired. I´m sounding incredibly naive, I know. But still.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Bret/Owen in 1994 for me. Another long spanning great angle, especially if you track it to the reconciliation and Hart Foundation in 97.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Reynolds just needs to retire. His name is associated with failure, and he's releases so much soulless crap over the years that it's sad. There are a TON of male leads in Hollywood right now, we don't need his useless ass around.

    ReplyDelete
  75. 1991...

    The Real Worlds Champion.
    &
The Formation of the Dangerous Alliance

    Strike That...

    Luger vs Simmons

    &
    Chamber of Horrors

  76. He pulled in some big numbers for WCW. It was vince being lazy in booking him legit after 92

    ReplyDelete
  77. The Undertaker / HBK Wrestlemania year long story-arc is probably my favourite.

I think the double whammy of two of his movies flopping hard on the same weekend last year (RIPD and Turbo) may finally end Hollywood's quest to A-list him. I like him as an actor, but his movies are usually shit.

    ReplyDelete
  79. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryJuly 30, 2014 at 2:20 PM

Weaving wasn't part of the initial filming, he actually replaced another actor in post production if I recall right

    ReplyDelete
  80. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryJuly 30, 2014 at 2:22 PM

Yeah, but the premise and look is mass-appeal and family friendly. The superhero genre is littered with R-rated bombs like Kick-Ass 2, Dredd, and the Punisher films.

    ReplyDelete
  81. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryJuly 30, 2014 at 3:12 PM

I think the closest thing to it was Jericho and Shawn back in 2008

    ReplyDelete
  82. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryJuly 31, 2014 at 2:16 AM

Based on a comic book but not a superhero in the traditional sense, he's a mercenary anti-villain whose gimmick is breaking the fourth wall every way he can.

That said, this isn't seeing the light of day, so there's one less comic book film for you to lose your shit over.
