Dear Scott,
You recently claimed on your blog that JBL was the "lowest drawing champion since Diesel". This may lead your readers to assume that Diesel did not draw well during his title reign.
I think you will find that Diesel and the WWF/E enjoyed overwhelming success (both creative and financial) during his run as champion. He easily ranks as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, champion in wrestling history. I have included a link to verify this fact, which details the record-breaking profits the WWF/E made during his tenure as champion.
I believe after watching this video you will feel inclined to offer Kevin Nash an apology.
Wow. And I mean, if Scott Steiner has taught us anything, it's that math doesn't lie. Plus Nash had a chart and everything. Case closed, I guess.
That's the best thing ever. "Austin nearly up there with my run."
ReplyDeleteYou can't argue with charts and graphs!
ReplyDeleteSHUT THE FRONT DOOR!
ReplyDeleteKevin Nash beat Goldberg! GOLDBERG!!!
ReplyDeleteI will say I was watching some 1995 RAW from before Summerslam and was surprised at how into him the crowd was.
ReplyDeleteCheers piped in too I'm sure, but visually you could see they were pumped.
No doubt the fans were into him, but I don't think they wanted another smiling babyface on top. Diesel got over by being the ass-kicking bodyguard, and for reasons I can't understand, Vince insisted on trying to recreate Hulkamania. Okay, actually I can understand why Vince wanted to, but you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI remember this. I loved all paparazzi productions stuff. The one with Nash learning lucha libre is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteIt's this amazing perspective on the world that makes Kevin Nash a true national treasure.
ReplyDeleteNash's promos at this time were really funny, but it was a case of TNA not seeing the forest for the trees.
ReplyDeleteEvery week they aired these entertaining spots from Kev, Alex and... well, I was going to say Johnny Devine but really he was as important as a light fixture... where they would bury the X-Division. And what did it accomplish? Well, whaddayaknow... it BURIED THE X DIVISION. Eight years later and it hasn't recovered.
Kevin Nash is my spirit animal.
ReplyDeleteI really hated Alex Shelley.
ReplyDeleteI like how he says "Nearly up there, but not even close."
ReplyDelete"The X Division... Some good little guys... Put on some good little matches... Mostly filler.."
ReplyDeleteNash has the honor of building himself up, and weaseling out of a key match that he's booked to job... In WCW (Starrcade 97), TNA (Against Sabin), AND in WWE (Against Punk).
ReplyDeleteAnd he keeps getting hired! The man is simply a god.
KevinNash wouldn't save a single one of you from a burning building. You need to get that through your heads.
ReplyDeleteI feel this is now the perfect time to announce that my songs have outsold The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, and Garth Brooks.
ReplyDeleteCombined.
I have charts to prove it.
His hair is extremely flammable. Don't blame him.
ReplyDeleteI think we've learned from Scott Steiner that anytime a wrestler starts talking math, we're in trouble. Except maybe Dean Douglas.
ReplyDeleteThat's something people used to say about Col. DeBeers in the late '80s. The AWA wasn't drawing flies on shit, but the fans who were there really, REALLY hated him.
ReplyDeleteWell, of COURSE they hated him. The fans who actually paid money to see the show don't need to be sold on the babyfaces or the heels. That Diesel was over with live crowds shouldn't be a surprise, because those people are the ones who are already buying what he's selling. Could he draw anyone ELSE is the question.
House Shows I bought a ticket to :
ReplyDeleteYoko defending the title: 1
Bret defending the title: 0
Diesel defending the title: 2
HBK defending the title: 0
Austin defending the title: 0
CASE CLOSED.
Math 101 with Scott Steiner and Grammar 101 with Kevin Nash.
ReplyDeleteKevin Nash is no hero. No matter how others attempt to portray him after the fact. Much like officer Stacey Koon, Kevin Mash is a clear cut example of what happens when power gets to a bad man. He is not someone to be give hero worship. He is just a tall man with an above average head of hair and a dry delivery.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, Garth Brooks is only a couple of million units away from passing the Beatles as the all time #1 seller. WHAT THE FUCK, AMERICA?
ReplyDeleteYup makes perfect sense, good post. I was just a bit taken aback, I wasn't watching much in 95 (Guess he couldn't draw me..), and I just assumed that by August he would have been getting more tepid reactions.
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest... Nash got me to start watching TNA when those videos were coming out. Really thought he was going to put Sabin over huge.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to learn about the adjective "play"
ReplyDeleteDon't look at me. I didn't buy any of his shit records.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea these videos existed. This is hilarious. I have a new found respect for Nash.
