It just goes to show that you never know who's going to become a 16 time World champion in the future. Also, this was the year I was born, and Flair is STILL trying to get back into wrestling again. That should make everyone feel old.
Outside of the looks, the most jarring thing I notice about Flair in this match is the fact that he is landing flat on his back when taking bumps as opposed to landing on his side when taking bumps after the plane crash...
Yeah, I loved the analysis. At first I was expecting them to go into non-kayfabe and start analyzing the bumps and stuff until I realized this *was* their kayfabe.
Don't really care. Loved how the analysis was on the level of commentators breaking down a golf swing or the movement of a basketball play. This is how I would instruct commentators even to this day.
THAT is Ric Flair?
ReplyDeleteSo insane to watch.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of insane how much he totally transformed his body and style. There's barely even bits here resembling what he'd become and be known for.
I've seen pictures of fat boy Flair, but never seen him in action back then.
ReplyDeleteRic Flair: Big Fat Dynamo!
ReplyDeleteThe announcing is so bizarre. It really feels like a legit sport. Even ROH focuses on angles and personalities way more.
ReplyDeleteThat poor kid just got buried. He will never recover now.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both, SK. Born in '74 as well. Never seen this before. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteBig fat guys with no marketable skills really have it hard now that wrestling has changed...

ReplyDeleteTaking a ride on Space Mountain back then was getting in the car and driving to the nearest buffet.
ReplyDeleteYou guys do realize one of the announcers is Eric Bischoff?
