Hulk Hogan will be here tonight as he gets interviewed by Jesse Ventura. In action tonight will be Paul Orndorff, Honkytonk Man, Koko B. Ware, and Randy Savage. Plus, an update on Roddy Piper and our featured bout, the Killer Bees vs. The Moondogs.
Randy Barber vs. Koko B. Ware
Vince is in his glory when Koko and Frankie come out. Koko is shown in an insert promo with Frankie as Jesse tells us that the "B" in his name stands for Buckwheat. Koko starts with an armdrag then a flying headscissors. Barber drops down for a monkey flip but Koko crouches over him and flaps his arms. Koko catches him with a powerslam then shortly after that finishes him off with the Ghostbuster (2:17).
Thoughts: Koko is getting over with the crowds, which is a good sign. Unfortunately for him, its a gimmick with a low ceiling.
WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. This week's topic is Hillbilly Jim and how he as endeared himself to fans all over the world as they show a clip of him singing and playing the guitar from "Tuesday Night Titans." The clips were older as Vince and Hayes stopped being the hosts about a year after this aired. I guess this is another attempt at a Hillbilly Jim push.
Mario Mancini vs. Sika w/ The Wizard
We are treated to another screaming insert promo from the Wizard before the match. Sika snapmares Manicni then chokes him out on the mat. He now gauges his face before tossing him to the floor. Sika rams Mancini against the guardrail as Jesse imagines how much damage a team consisting of Kamala & Sika could cause. Sika dominates Mancini inside of the ring until he gets the win with a Samoan Drop (1:40).
Thoughts: Nothing new here but Jesse did some foreshadowing on commentary by bringing up Kamala & Sika as a possible tag team.
Ken Resnick is with Tito Santana who will be facing Harley Race in Boston. Tito stumbled over his words a bit here and cut a rather uninspired promo overall. Tito was stuck in the midcard with no direction at this point.
Ron Shaw vs. Honkytonk Man
Vince actually calls him Wayne Ferris a few times as Jesse calls him a greaseball. We get an insert promo from Mr. Fuji who does not want Honky to put his "greasy hands on his tuxedo." Honky works the arm then rams Shaw's head off of the turnbuckle. Shaw ducks outside then Honky elbows him off of the apron. Back inside, Shaw catches Honky with a knee smash then hammers away. Shaw then misses an elbow smash as Honky slams him then hits a fist drop off of the top rope (2:56). The fans boo after the match.
Thoughts: Its been clear that Honky as a babyface is not working. No one wants to cheer for the guy. Interesting to see Honky work as a face though. The fist drop from the top is a lame finisher though.
Resnick is with Randy Savage, who will be facing George Steele in a No-DQ match in Boston. Savage quotes Rod Stewart then goes off on a tangent about the match, which is nothing new from him.
Dan Hastings vs. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff w/ Bobby Heenan
Before the match, Orndorff is shown in an insert promo yelling about how "Real American" was a song meant for him, not Hulk Hogan. Orndorff starts the match cleanly then destroys him. He roughs him up outside of the ring then takes him back inside and rips his head off with a clothesline before getting the win with the piledriver (3:26).
Thoughts: Orndorff squash matches were fun. He looked like he worked stiff but I never heard anyone complain that he hurt them in the ring.
We are shown a promo from Roddy Piper last week after he was destroyed by Adonis, Orton, and Muraco. He comes out limping on a crutch with his leg bandaged up and holding a bat in his other hand as he destroys the Flower Shop set as the fans go crazy. Good segment to further promote their feud.
Dan McGuire vs. Randy "Macho Man" Savage w/ Elizabeth
Before the match, Savage runs outside and orders Elizabeth where to stand as we get an insert promo from Superstar Billy Graham calling out Savage, who tosses McGuire to the floor then roughs him up before bringing him back in and getting the win with the flying elbow smash (1:51).
Thoughts: Savage needs to get himself a feud for the IC title as he is getting called out by all of the wash-ups in the company.
We are now shown Ventura interviewing Hulk Hogan. They insult each other before Hogan calls out Orndorff for not being a real American. Not that much happened.
The Moondogs vs. Killer Bees
Jesse says that Hogan is jealous of him as he is filming movies and does not have to wrestle anymore. Blair gets the best of Rex to start. He slams both Moondogs then Rex tags out. Brunzell tags and works the arm for a bit. He gets two with a small package. Rex knees Brunzell from the apron and tags himself into the match but gets dropkicked and Blair tags but the referee did not see the tag and orders him back to the apron then Brunzell tags again as the ref saw it this time. Blair cleans house as Vince says that the Moondogs look off tonight. Blair hits the Bee Sting then moves out of the way as Rex accidentally elbows Spot then Brunzell dropkicks Rex ans Blair covers Spot for the win (2:57). After the match, Spot argues with Rex and shoves him as the almost come to blows.
Thoughts: The Moondogs were basically TV jobbers anyway at this point so them losing was not a surprise and I don't get the point of them teasing tension since they were most likely not going to get pushes as solo wrestlers.
Resnick is with Super & Big Machine as they talk up Piper Machine and how the "Machine Factory" is turning out even more Machines. The Machine gimmick would be finished by the end of the month as it bombed.
Next week in action are Don Muraco & Bob Orton, Junkyard Dog & George Steele, Jake Roberts, and the British Bulldogs vs. The Dream Team in a non-title match.
Final Thoughts: The Piper segment was cool and watching Honky die as a babyface was interesting but other than that this show was entirely skippable. They need to build up more feuds in the midcard as there really isn't any at this point.
