Hey Scott,
Eh, you always need big guys. It's NXT, they can always find a new gimmick for him or make him someone's bodyguard later or something. Obviously Baron Corbin is the guy they're going all in with anyway, so I wouldn't sweat the Dempsey thing.
It's obvious they need to repush Mojo!
ReplyDelete"Top few programs" is being nice.
ReplyDeleteLesnar/Cena
Ambrose/Authority
???
Profit.
I think calling Dempsey the love child of Rhino and King Kong Bundy is being extremely insulting to Rhino and King Kong Bundy. They would make a much prettier baby than that walking nightmare of pudge.
ReplyDeleteY'know Mojo would have been the perfect character to be a Wyatt convert.
ReplyDeleteBull needs a new look (not that singlet), and needs to be tagged up with someone like Scott Dawson. The could be a couple of hairy shitkickers a la the Godwins. I can only see Bull as a jobber as a singles wrestler on the main roster.
ReplyDeleteCena beating evil guy is getting to the point of Hogan levels of bad.
ReplyDeleteThere's always room for a big fat monster to feed to Cena.
ReplyDeleteOf course, it works better if the guy has some talent (Umanga) than if he doesn't (Khali), but you can't win them all.
JR was hinting at the possibility of WWE luring back Punk for a Lesnar/Punk Mania 31 main event.
ReplyDeleteI don't see it happening, but it would be awesome.
I have a feeling Mania 31 will be one of those "off" Manias like 27.
I don't see Reigns/Lesnar happening... even Rollins/Lesnar is more likely considering the tease last night with Heyman (not at Mania, just somewhere down the road)
ReplyDeleteI like the Cena/Bryan idea... you know they will deliver a great match and could build some great heat.
ReplyDeleteThat would be awesome, and personally the only real match up I'd want to see. If both can't see a way to cash in on that then I think they're both being too stubborn for their own good
ReplyDeleteYeah, but WWE will end up being so committed to the Cena/Rusev thing that they'll forget about Bryan and then throw him into a match with Kane... or Sheamus... or Fandango.
ReplyDeleteSo instead of a great Cena/Bryan match we'll get two average matches.
Lesnar won't have a problem with it as long as the check clears. It's Punk who has the pride. However, at this point I get the feeling Triple H/Stephanie don't want to give Punk a big payday even if Vince is all about it.
ReplyDeleteReigns/Lesnar is not main eventing WrestleMania 31. I mean it's not even close to a match people want to see. Unless Reigns suddenly catches fire, he's a midcarder right now.
ReplyDeleteBy the time 2015 rolls around and the Network is losing subscribers, Vince will bring back Punk. It's pretty obvious they are going to need a huge MAINSTREAM WrestleMania to turn the tide on the network. Sting will be there. Wouldn't count out them ask the Rock and/or Goldberg.
The problem with Raw sucking so hard every week is that the regulars are look like geeks (save for Cena) and the part-timers look way better by not being there. Punk & Bryan, especially, will tower over everyone when they come back because they haven't been dragged down by the suck.
WrestleMania is going to be heavy on the part-timers & 1-shots.
They don't have that choice for 2015. They need a killer show for the Network.
ReplyDeleteAnd while 27 felt off, it featured the return of the Rock and did an insane buyrate.
Pray... For... Mojo...
ReplyDeleteRock vs Brock
ReplyDeleteUndertaker vs Sting
Cena vs Rusev
Triple H vs Batista
Punk is severely over-estimated when it comes to drawing power. I don't see why they'd pay him tons of money, with the very high chance that he'll flake out and quit again, when he has never really been proven to move the needle anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd if they do Brock vs Rock, Brock sure as hell better win.
Dempsey is also, if I recall, a Killer Kowalski guy (or has some sort of connection to him). I'm assuming Triple H liked him for that as well.
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please no UT/Sting match. No UT match at all. The defeat of the streak is the PERFECT end to his career.
ReplyDeleteOh, of course Mania 27 did a monster buyrate... but it still sucked as a show. That's what I meant. Mania 31 could do a huge buyrate, but obviously we want it to be a good show too -- like Mania 30, which did excellent PPV numbers, solid Network numbers, and was an awesome show.
ReplyDeleteI know they NEED Mania 31 to be good, but I don't see it happening based on the current product unless they fill the card with part-timers.
A main event from 13 years ago, the 10th anniversary of a previous WM main event, Cena vs Evil Foreign Heel, and two 55 year olds. Sorry, I hate it. Rollins, Ambrose, Reigns and Bryan have gotta be in the top 4 matches.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this hernia, depending on how long it keeps him out, might push Reigns' big year back to next year. He's either got to score some HUGE wins right off his return (Randy Orton doesn't count) or I think him winning the Rumble stands a decent chance of getting a less than desired reaction. Still a good and positive one, but not the kind you want for a guy who's about to go slay the Viking Space Lord and knock him from atop the mountain.
ReplyDeleteI never said I liked it
ReplyDeleteMissed the Wyatt vignette last night, anyone care to give a quick synopsis?
ReplyDeleteYep. Punk moved merch well, mostly because his merch wasn't obviously an embarrassing HAY I WATCH WRASSLIN billboard like most wrestling shirts, but he isn't and was never a proven draw. When they tried the whole "new blood" reboot with Bryan, Ryder, Kofi/Bourne and Punk leading the pack as WWE champ, I believe ratings and buyrates sagged. When he co-mained Summerslam against Brock, the buyrate went down. Punk's not a draw.
ReplyDeleteI still think Brock should retain this year... not every WM needs the ascension of a new champion. Building Brock as a long term unbeatable monster is their best bet to payoff the eventual title change.
ReplyDeleteOf course, that assumes they stop doing stupid NoC type finishes with him...
I apologise for thinking you did.
ReplyDeleteI don't wanna go "Justin Watry" on everyone, but I sort of get the feeling that the majority of Punk's fanbase is the "Illegal download" crowd. The casuals don't really move the needle when it comes to him.
ReplyDeleteHe reminds more of Bill Demott, which is also why I think he might be favored in NXT.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, I find it humorous.
To be fair to them, they’ve done zero build for it yet. 3 months of
ReplyDeletebuildup with a refreshed Reigns and there could be something there.
Yep, one thing that made HHH's losses to Benoit/Batista/Cena such a big deal was that he successfully defended the title as a heel at WM 16 and 19. So if Brock retains this year, it would make it an even bigger deal in the future.
ReplyDeleteDon't let that get in the way of complaining! WM is gonna suck!! *ahem*
ReplyDeleteI would do Brock/Bryan at Mania and have Bryan come close but Brock beats him to roll on. Brock should hold until WM32...then you do Reigns.
ReplyDeleteA guy with Bundy's look and Rhyno's move set would be awesome, actually.
ReplyDeleteWell it depends if Brock re-signs for more dates after Mania 31. As far as we know, his current deal ends at Mania 31.
ReplyDeleteSomething tells me they can make that happen.
ReplyDeleteI love Punk, but he was utter death for a while as champion
ReplyDeletein 2012. Didn’t his segments consistently drop to like 2.5s?
I'm sure they can. But until we hear otherwise, that's when he's done.
ReplyDeleteAnd we won't know any of this until about February. They can run a long program leading to a logical match featuring wrestlers people want to see and it can be changed on a dime because Vince.
ReplyDeleteYes, but ratings and buyrates don't matter when it comes to an IWC darling. However, when Orton/Show does a low buyrate or rating, then IT HAS TO BE DROPPED IMMEDIATELY, BECAUSE THE RATINGZ HAVE SPOKEN.
ReplyDeleteThey should bring in Abyss and turn him into Shark 2000.
ReplyDeleteGo to UFC. Dethrone Cain. There’s always time to come back
ReplyDeletefor Mania 32.
The Demon Cain? Or Corporate Cain?
ReplyDeleteHe can never compete in UFC again, as they will target his abdominal injury/weakness. That's why WWE is perfect for him, they can work around it.
ReplyDeleteI think they want Taker to go out on a high note as a farewell to a guy who defines "company man."
ReplyDeleteI do agree that a singles match would be shit, though. Both guys need someone who can fly around and carry them to a good match.
If they HAVE to do something with Sting and Taker, I'd like to see them team up for a special attraction tag match.
Against SPEED FORCE~!
ReplyDeletealso gives you a hughgrection
ReplyDeleteBundamania goring wild!!
ReplyDeleteHe’s a cult guy. Absolutely beloved by many, not even liked
ReplyDeleteat all by the rest.
I can get on board with that. I mean, a major part of his character was "this company sucks and the people who run it are stupid." This developed right at the same time that they really started pushing the idea that the people you are supposed to hate are the people who profit off of your involvement with the product when you buy shirts, tickets, PPVs, the network, etc.
ReplyDeleteKind of a risky approach and when you've got a wrestler who has catered to the "internet nerds" since day one in the company, I can easily see where those same people (who already know exactly how to illegally stream PPVs) deciding to have their cake as eat it too.
But yeah, the casual fans are motivated to tune in by captivating personalities or larger-than-life reputations. Punk, even now, doing podcasts and YouTube interviews that he presumably WANTS to do, comes off as a smarmy, shitty dickhead. That's not going to draw people in. That's going to do the opposite.
Like Mussolini and Kennedy? And Joseph Stalin and Gandhi?
ReplyDeleteScuba Cain
ReplyDeleteHe's like a smarmy version of that lot, aye.
ReplyDeleteGod, we’re not even THINKING about all the top TNA talent
ReplyDeletethat could be plugged into the main event scene if they fold in January. That
could change the entire dimension of the card. For realsies.
I've only seen one match, but he doesn't seem big enough to be a monster heel, unless Xavier Woods (the guy I saw him wrestle) is a lot bigger that I thought he was. He seems about Bray Wyatt sized.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with Russev - he's too short to be the character the WWE made for him. You want your scary Russian to look like Nikita Koloff, not like a bulkier version of Taz,
Give them Orton and Kane. They have nothing else to do. Kane and Taker get one last meeting, Orton has a history of being the 'legend killer,' it kinda works. The Authority guys are going to put Taker to rest finally (maybe as a favor to Paul Heyman), they order Orton and Kane to get rid of Taker at the Rumble, Sting backs Taker up as only he understands what it's like to be a loyal company man being pushed out the door.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, Sting was a loyal company man, pushed out of WCW at the end, and by who? Stephanie McMahon. That story could work.
I doubt we'll ever see The Rock wrestle again.
ReplyDeleteHave Sting wrestle Wyatt.
ReplyDeleteThat’s not a bad match. A possibly glacially paced one, but
ReplyDeletesome good star power there for guys who, as you say, are unlikely to have that
much going on.
It's too late now, but Khali seems like such a wasted opportunity. You have a giant with some muscles who is the scariest looking guy in the company and they couldn't teach him to do ANYTHING?! They couldn't have even hired a speech therapist to work with him? He wouldn't have to do much to get over. But instead they have him lose to little guys who should never have been allowed to take him off his feet and then turn him into a bad comedy act.
ReplyDeleteCould they teach him to like, walk without looking awkward?
ReplyDeleteIt was basically Bray saying that he helped Harper find a purpose, seemed to be prepping Harper for a singles push.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest concern about going to WrestleMania this year isn't the card but the Stadium. Does Levi have a retractable roof? I don't wanna spend close to $2000 in travel expenses and the like to get rained on.
ReplyDeleteIf Brock holds the title until Mania his opponent has to be the guy the fans unanimously want to dethrone him. If Reigns is that guy fair enough, but if there is an Ambrose or Bryan on the scene that the fans would rather see then the main event would be hurt a lot. They've gotta get this spot on and not let wanting Reigns to be the next big thing cloud their decision.
ReplyDeleteIt's in SF, right? It will be RAININ' MEN!!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I agree with you, they can only run with a "part-time champion" for so long, and that's coming from someone who FULLY supports the idea of Brock as part-time champion.
ReplyDeleteFrom last month's "Summerslam" until "WrestleMania" is doable, and MAYBE they can drag it out until next year's "Summerslam", but nineteen or twenty months is just way too long.
Personally, I'd have Brock retain at "WM", and then lose it at "Summerslam". It'd be a nice way to make that PPV truly special.
It's in San Jose actually but I can't imagine a 45 minute difference will change the climate that much. I suppose I could just look up the answer than just stare at my computer at work waiting for one.
ReplyDeleteYou’ve put Patrice O’Neal’s glorious
ReplyDeletenon-gay re-write of that song in my head, and now I’m happy for the rest of the
day.
It’s raining stuff! Hallelujah, it’s
raining things!
I could get on board with that
ReplyDeleteThanks, interesting.
ReplyDeleteWho IS a proven "draw" in today's wrestling world outside of Cena, Rock, and Lesnar?
ReplyDeletePunk's the highest merch mover they've had besides Cena in the Cena era. That's absolutely huge. Moving merch is one of the few areas where you can do 1 to 1 comparisons of who specifically is a draw, and Punk moved a truckload of stuff, above and beyond everyone in the company aside from Cena. That's a massive feather in his drawing cap.
Punk's TV ratings numbers once he was a main eventer were excellent. His house show main events drew better than anyone aside from Cena. (Take a look at how bad the non-Cena house show numbers have been since Punk left and Bryan went down.) He draw big against Rock at Rumble '13. He drew really well against Ryback at the HIAC in which cena didn't appear. Hell, even TLC '11 without Cena, Punk main evented with the title and the numbers stayed the same.
As far as modern pro wrestlers, Punk is absolutely a big draw.
You believe wrong, then. The totality of Raw's ratings in 2013 were slightly higher (3.01 to 3.0) than 2012, but 2012's monthly average rating exceeded 2013's in May, June and July and were unchanged in April, August, September and November. 2013's monthly average topped 2012 from January through March (when The Rock was champion) and December.
ReplyDeleteWhile Cena/Rusev definitely makes sense, I just don't see Cena wrestling another midcarder two years in a row - it really made no sense this year for the biggest name they have to be in that position on the big 30th show and "WWE Network" debut, and it would make even less sense to do that at a time when they're extremely short on legit main-eventers and need people to subscribe.
ReplyDeleteI actually wouldn't mind a big four-way match with Brock, Cena, Bryan, and Reigns - you have the big monster heel, the established star, the underdog darling, and the guy that they're banking on for the future. All three challengers are viable winners for different reasons, it'd be a great match, the outcome would be uncertain, and Vince could literally wait until the very last minute to decide who would win (based on crowd reaction).
Now that I think of it, I really see no down-side to this scenario.
Actually ratings and buyrates do matter, and Punk became the most consistent ratings getter in WWE outside of Cena and the part-timers. Look it up, Punk's segments were consistently the biggest on Raw.
ReplyDeleteRATINGZ DO MATTERZ WE AGREE
Good point about the "2 midcarders in a row" thing. The main focus seems to be that Cena "buried" a midcarder, but he should be given praise for stepping back to give Daniel the huge spotlight/moment. I'm sure he could have easily talked Vince into being the main event of one of the biggest shows in history.
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping that this year's "Rumble" taught them something about going back to listening to the fans.
ReplyDeleteDid he? I remember lots of ratings in the upper 2's and lower 3's. Depends on the time of year I guess, he DID hold the title for well over a year.
ReplyDeleteNo offense, but are you an authoritarian 55-year-old man or something? You realize that Punk caught on with the same type of people who caught on to Austin and Hollywood Hogan, right? Punk was, rightly or wrongly, seen as an iconoclast, and that resonates with people.
ReplyDeleteHe squashed Mojo Rawley.
ReplyDeleteBull Dempsey is Daniel Bryan as far as I'm concerned.
Always been a Punk fan, but I can't disagree. The value of Punk was that he sold himself as the opposite of what the company has been pushing for the past decade or so. That's great to have around as an alternative, just to hook the fans who aren't into the main guy, but by definition it's a niche. A company doesn't thrive on highlighting the product that stands in opposition to its brand.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wonder what Punk would've been in a WWE whose style was more suited to his persona. As it stands, if he can keep healthy (and possibly remove some of the more dangerous moves from his routine), Bryan is better in Punk's position, just because he can play both fan favorite and rabble-rouser at the same time. When playing anti-authority he comes across like the guy who's being held down for completely unfair reasons, whereas Punk always seemed the guy whose mouth made him a liability.
Bulkier version of Tazz?
ReplyDeleteTry the guy from Balls of Fury.
No. Gigantism wrecks the body, especially the knees.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I think most don't appreciate Kane and Big Show, especially. Big guys who can work at a respectable level for such a long time are a rare commodity.
You're only describing Punk in the summer of 2011. The rest of his time he presented himself as some sort of martyr. It was basically an evolution of Bret Hart's character in 1997.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a good point. Punk was a rebel, but in a
ReplyDeletetotally different way to Austin. Austin never had a problem with the WWF, he
just had a problem with McMahon.
...
ReplyDeleteVince McMahon WAS the WWF.
Yeah, people seem to forget that. Cena could've easily pulled a Hogan and demanded that he be put in the main event.
ReplyDeleteCome on. Vince was an egotistical owner engaging in a war with Austin. But Austin didn't hate the WWF itself. He didn't whine about the product, or the merchandise, or anything like that. He didn't want to change the direction of the company, he was the direction of the company. He just wanted to be champion and kick McMahon's ass.
ReplyDelete"A big fat monster" No, just fat.
ReplyDelete6'2" is shorter than Cena.
Fat and greasy.
Bhyno? Or Rhundy?
ReplyDeleteHe could have challenged Daniel to an impromptu match! LOLCENAWINS
ReplyDeleteI'd go HHH/Orton vs Sting/Taker at Mania (deal with it, HHH is getting the most "unique" match as he does every year by weaseling into it... see Brock, Bryan, Taker matches...) with Orton turning babyface in April after HHH blames him for the loss. Sting/Taker can't happen, that would be a disaster. Cena will be facing Rusev, almost a lock.
ReplyDeleteRhundy. Team him with Sami Calihan and they'll be Solomon Rhundy. They'll be pushed on each Raw and be buried at every pay-per-view.
ReplyDeleteCome on. You are changing the narrative to fit your argument in probably one of the most disingenuous ways imaginable.
ReplyDeleteWell. Touche.
ReplyDeleteI like it except Rock in the main (why?) and Taker/Sting. I'd rather see them team. We already saw one "epic moment" ruined (Taker's streak ending in a turd match) because Taker's just too old to go. Have them team and mask Taker's issues.
ReplyDeleteReigns' hernia shouldn't be that long of an injury. It's a solid 2-3 month thing. I'd be very surprised if he's not fully ready to return by the end of this year.
ReplyDeletewas that the dodgeball movie? If so, didn't see it
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Cena to give the rub to Rusev! That man will become a dancin' fool!
ReplyDeleteThey should bring in Massive Q instead of Bull.
ReplyDeleteI honestly wouldn't be shocked if we got Triple H vs. Sting. Just because....
ReplyDeleteOkay, you're banished from this blog. That's FAR too clever for this place. I am instantly suspicious...
ReplyDeleteBob Backlund never figured that out, and he did okay
ReplyDeleteI'd go for a four way IF and ONLY if it was four corners and under elimination rules.
ReplyDeletePretty sure I've read that Sting has basically said, "Okay, so if not Undertaker, then HHH".
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for Sting v HBK in an ICON VS ICON match.
A Brock-Ambrose match intrigues me because Ambrose's character has the personality to just be insane enough to try every trick in the book to beat Brock. With Reigns it is just "this guy is strong."
ReplyDeleteI actually agree. Just like George Costanza, he'd fight dirty.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of that hilarious Dr. D promo against Hulk Hogan in the AWA that caused Mean Gene to corpse.
ReplyDeleteI'm not totally a fan of the 4-way match idea, partly because it lets them procrastinate on figuring out who to back, which doesn't help anyone, and partly because it's more dramatically satisfying if Brock's reign ends one-on-one. But I understand why people have floated the idea.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's true - Cena really doesn't need to be in a midcard match again, especially with a weak roster. I say give him Rusev at the Rumble and move him onto something bigger come Mania.
Great point. Dean would do crazy shit like bite and scratch. With Roman it's that kick on the apron, Superman punch, Spear and we're good!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know when Lesnar will be wrestling next? HIAC? Or no
ReplyDeleteTalk about such a damn disappointment if Sting wrestles his only match against Triple H.
ReplyDeleteI'd completely go for Sting-HBK. THAT is the real big match of the 1990s and the PWI magazines loved to run that as a fantasy matchup.
I don't see him getting plugged into the HIAC card. I think maybe Survivor Series? Who will he face? WWWEELLLLLLL IT'S.........
ReplyDeleteNo retractable roof. The ring will be covered, and I guess thats all they care about.
ReplyDeleteRandom note: Did everybody but me know that the WM29 ring was heated? Just saw that WWE Archive show on Youtube with Joey Styles and they showed the ring posts that shot out heat and showed they had furnaces under the ring. I really had no idea
Late autumn/winter is Big Show’s time to shine!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry guys, Austin/Punk will save this show.
ReplyDeletePlus, both Sting and HBK are big-time Christians. I can believe just that it is reason enough for to it be a maybe.
ReplyDeleteHa unfortunate truth
ReplyDeleteIf it has to happen, Sting/Taker should be based around DDP getting Sting back in shape and convincing him to try and gain some payback for the WCW guys that Taker buried in 2001.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had no idea about that. It was a pretty cool idea because I wondered how people would wrestle in those colder conditions.
ReplyDeleteSadly, we might get HBK inserted into the Triple H-Sting match as a guest referee, thereby creating the same problem with most Triple WM matches recently: You wish HBK was fighting Triple H's opponent (Brock, Bryan, and maybe Sting) rather than Triple H himself.
ReplyDeleteHm, good point:
ReplyDelete99: wins belt at SurSer
02: wins belt at SurSer
08: beats the UNDERTAKER at No Mercy
09: JeriShow running strong
11: Beats Henry for the belt (for like 2 minutes but still)
12: WHC run after beating Sheamus
13: Title shot v. Orton at SurSer
You mean Austin/Cena!
ReplyDeleteIf Austin EVER did return it would be WM32. I stll say there is like a 97% chance he will never wrestle again, but if he did it would be 32. He doesnt want to go out there and embarrass himself, and if you listen to his podcast, he's blunt about how he isnt in that great of shape these days. It would take a full year of prep im sure
ReplyDelete“Do it for Kanyon! Do it for Kronik!” are words I do not
ReplyDeleteexpect to hear on television.
It is. He won his first world title at Survivor Series. He won his most recent then. And beat Lesnar in his first loss (I think?) then. He's their #1 guy for the quietest time of the year.
ReplyDeleteDamnit, I typed that up just too late.
ReplyDeleteSurvivor Series is HIS event.
Aren't there reports that Austin has already been training or preparing for a comeback? He still bumped well on Tough Enough.
ReplyDeleteSomeone throws salt in Bryan's eyes, Five knuckle shuffle, Attitude Adjustment, 1-2-3!
ReplyDeleteEvery time the guy gets out of the house, it directly, or indirectly leads to a wrestling comeback rumor, yes.
ReplyDeleteThat title change with Brock was the dumbest thing ever. Brock steamrolls everyone and THE BIG SHOW beats him?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if anyone else has had an awesome of a career at Survivor Series.
ReplyDeleteDidnt he main event last year against Orton as well?
ReplyDeleteUnless Christy Canyon is trying to bribe someone with weed.
ReplyDeleteSting/Taker should be based around Christy Canyon bribing someone with weed.
BSK!
Eh, not feeling HBK/Sting. If HBK ever did lace it up again, which I hope he doesnt, Danielson is way to go.
ReplyDeleteOh, so he did! And the buy-rate was especially, unsurprisingly abysmal as I recall.
ReplyDeleteWith Austin, he would be expected to work a good match which generally wasn't expected for say, Hogan.
ReplyDeleteONLY if Shawn comes out in a cutoff shirt with a camouflage hat. Because why the fuck not.
ReplyDeleteDanielson vs HIckenbottom?
ReplyDeleteThat's true, that's what cooled my Punk fandom (which is saying a lot, speaking as a straight edge who ran with a punk/skater crowd in high school). There was a whininess to him that Austin didn't have.
ReplyDeleteReally, nearly every match where The Big Show wins, I think, "He was not the right guy to win".
ReplyDeleteBOOK IT
ReplyDeleteIf I recall right, Big Show was trying to get over doing the YES! thing as well
ReplyDeleteI kind of liked Heyman's paranoia about it. He had just decided "You can't beat the Big Show", and everyone, Brock included were like "The f*ck are you talking about? Sure I can".
ReplyDeleteBut Heyman became so obsessed with being right that he actually interfered and cost Brock the title. His paranoia got the better of him.
Its Steph I feel the most sorry for...
ReplyDeleteWell, he did invent it!
ReplyDeleteYea they said it was something like a comfortable 78 degrees if you were standing in the ring
ReplyDeletePing pong movie with Christopher Walken.
ReplyDeleteLook up Dan Fogler and tell me that isn't Rusev.
Taker did, for quite a while at least.
ReplyDelete1990: Debut
1991: Wins title over Hulk
1992: Casket match win over Kamala
1993: Double countout, but survived the Banzai drop
1994: Casket match win over Yoko
1995: Dominating win over King Mabel's team
1996: Win over Mankind
That's quite the start.
I can't think of anyone prior to the last 90s...
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone can say, "oh, CODY RHODES is UNSTOPPABLE at Survivor Series!", but I don't f'n know / care about that.
Punk is one of the best wrestlers in the world. At worst he can carry him.
ReplyDeleteI feel like wrestling has to be like riding a bike to these guys, all they have to worry about is having the stamina to still go for 20 minutes.
I get that but I don't really put Kane in that category. Khali and Big Show are giants, Kane is basically a standard "big guy (non-fat)" in wrestling.
ReplyDeleteThat's good work.
ReplyDeleteAustin....no evidence of coming back.
ReplyDeletePunk....no evidence of coming back.
Sting....no evidence of coming back.
Taker....no evidence of coming back.
At this moment, these names should be completely taken out of any equation for 31 you are currently putting together.
I dunno, Punk didn't really carry Rock in the Rumble/Chamber matches they had last year. Though I'd expect Austin would get into much better wrestling shape than Rock was at that point.
ReplyDeleteWell, honestly, I think Austin was a better wrestler than Rock anyway.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if Punk and Austin was going to happen, Punk would obviously play the heel and would thus have more of the workload in a match. All Austin would have to do is bump, sell and make the occasional comeback.
Take it for what it's worth but 411 mania had an article about the Undertaker not ruling out coming back for WrestleMania 31
ReplyDeleteBret prior to 97.
ReplyDeleteI'm onboard because it keeps Orton and Kane the hell away from matches and programs I might actually care about.
ReplyDeleteOMG, IT IS SET IN STONE! Maybe he could be Vince's avatar!!! Against HHH's Avatar, Goldberg!!!
ReplyDelete..or not.
ReplyDeleteI think it's time that they make wrestlemania just with regular people. And I think if the feuds and matches are iinteresting enough...
ReplyDeleteTo further your point, 2012's numbers on TLC went down.
ReplyDeletePunk didn't wrestle on the show because he was injured and the show was main evented by Cena.
Racist.
ReplyDeleteHe went 4-0 at Summerslam until 1996 as well, though he then he lost an astounding THREE Summerslam matches in a row.
ReplyDeleteI guess they think, hey business is down this time of year, let's just kill some time with Big Show again. But maybe, just MAYBE, Big Show might be part of the problem.
ReplyDeleteAll Hogan's fault, wasn't it? That match was meant to be Brock vs Hogan with Hogan losing convincingly again, but Hogan balked. So they rewrote everything in what I could consider a slight booking overreaction.
ReplyDeleteI kinda like Bull Dempsey. I don't know why, but I do. /shrug
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it's verging on fantasy booking. But one tends to fantasise when you've got sod all else. It's not a guarantee that Rock's coming back either.
ReplyDeleteRegular people like you and me?
ReplyDeleteHe had a tough time at the Rumble too.
ReplyDelete1991: Eliminated by LOD
1992: Eliminated by Hogan, despite being guaranteed #20 or higher
1993: Attacked and eliminated by Giant Gonzalez
1994: Died in the casket match.
1995: Beat IRS, but got his urn stolen
1996: Failed to win the title from Bret
1997: Lost to Vader, PLUS drew #30 and lost the Rumble
1998: Died in a burning casket after losing the title shot.
And Bundy's mic skills.
ReplyDeleteCan I get a Whoa Rhundy?
ReplyDeleteWhat a loser. No wonder he got so motivated around Wrestlemania time.
ReplyDeleteYeah but Khali doesn't go "WOAHWOAHHH!!" when wrestling. That part is key.
ReplyDeleteIf we're getting ddp, I want Taker and Michelle McCool vs DDP and heel Sara.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most notice Bull Dempsey will ever receive.
ReplyDeleteWasn't Brock hurt and they wanted to get the title off him for a big return at Rumble and then winning the belt back at Mania?
ReplyDeleteAt this point, we've got a better chance of getting Hogan vs Flair than any of those other guys coming in for WM.
ReplyDeleteHow about Austin vs Punk in an "I Quit" match? Seems appropriate..
ReplyDeleteCall me crazy but they somehow get a part-timer to work a match at Mania. This product is too bad right now
ReplyDeleteRusev Dance!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you have against clowns and the undead?
ReplyDeleteWhen does a wrestling promotion cease being a wrestling promotion? I used to argue the semantics of this back during the Monday Night War. At that time the WWF still felt like a legitimate, touring promotion, with TV used to promote their live events. WCW, after being purchased by Turner, was more of a TV product, with their live events serving as a form of merchandising. A pointless distinction probably, and a moot one when WCW went out of business, but it was notable how when WCW was dying one of the first things that went were non-televised events. It literally became too expensive to put on a show not meant for broadcast.
ReplyDeleteJump ahead to TNA. People still seem to be arguing the future of the company when the truth is right there. I don't know how robust or extensive their house show schedule has been in the past, I just know they had one. Hell, they even came here to my town a couple times, and I'm pretty well off the beaten path in north-central Minnesota. I'm too lazy to look--does TNA have any live events scheduled that aren't TV tapings or this PPV? What is their plan if they no longer have TV? Do their employees know this plan? Are these people really employed by this company in a traditional sense, or just contractually obligated for a few dates? Yes, this PPV lineup is ridiculous, but the laughs, the hand-wringing by a few over the "future" of the company... my question is what's the point of any of it? When do we stop talking about this company? Not trying to be mean here, it's sad it died--but that's what's happened here people: TNA is dead. This company is Last-Days-Of-WCW dead. Who's has the belts, who is on the show, what are the angles--none of this matters anymore. TNA is a logo, a tape library & a bunch of memories owned by a money mark family wasting everyone's time keeping it alive. They are no longer a wrestling promotion.
HHH/'Taker was almost universally acclaimed pretty much immediately, so they didn't "need" video packages and verbal blowjobs the next night. And didn't the Shawn/'Taker matches get similar treatment, or am I imagining that? Did you rate the Shawn/'Taker matches highly.
ReplyDeleteI have to say 1) Bull Dempsey looks like an early 90's jobber and 2) the elimination chamber match at nyr 2006 is insane.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on both. (Though while that match is crazy, Angle's promo before that match is the greatest thing in human history.) Dempsey is the kind of "brand name" jobber they need. They'll never go back to the days of straight-up, actual jobbers on TV regularly, but should they be creating guys who have recognizable names, entrances, etc. who can regularly job in a more meaningful way than a legit no-name? There's a place for a guy like Bull Dempsey in that role.
ReplyDeleteI'd ask if you didn't have better things to do, then I remember those poor boys. So go ahead, burn through your lame jokes and shitty rejoinders. If it saves one boy from your molesting hands, I can live with your Stormtrooper-level accuracy and wit.
ReplyDeleteDie in a roaring fire or deep ocean, you worthless scourge.
ReplyDeleteBull is one of a handful of NXT guys that you just know will never, ever make it to the main roster because of their lack of marketable looks (Aiden English, CJ Parker, Sylvester LeFort and Enzo Amore are also on that list).
ReplyDeleteThe more important question should be: Why did Scott quit reviewing NXT all of a sudden?
yeah but Kane is still a very tall guy who has wrestled full time in the WWF for about 19 years with very few injury leaves. It really is pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhen standing next to The Rock (6'5"), Cena didn't look 4 inches shorter.
ReplyDeleteThe Rock probably isn't 6'5".
ReplyDeleteEnzo? Dafuq? The guy has a unique look and a strong comedy gimmick. He's making it to the main roster at some point.
ReplyDeleteI'm so confused....are you trying to say they bill guys BIGGER than what they actually are???!!!! WHAAAAAT?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if Rock isn't 6'5", and Cena isn't 6'3, then Bull Dempsey isn't 6'2"...he looks more like 5'10" at best.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the matter sweetheart, did the lady working at rite aid rebuke your advances? Worry not you will lose yor virginity, someday... Even if you have to pay for it.
ReplyDeleteHe looks NOTHING like Rusev
ReplyDeleteUh oh! Poor virgin is raging! Give yourself a handjob, you'll feel better... And it'll save your mommy from doin it when you get home from the library.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly didn't help that they re-hired Russo at the same time they signed Kurt Angle. If they had just kept Scott D'Amore as booker, the company would have continued its momentum instead of having Russo ruin about 50 more careers.
