Most Watched Matches Ever?

Hi Scott,

I'm listening to the Place to be Podcast of WM VI and they mentioned how Hogan v Warrior being one of those matches that most wrestling fans have seen a hundred times.  What do you think are the Most Watched Matches Ever? The matches that are watched over and over and over again and have been seen the most times by fans?  Thanks as always!

Best,

Ed

I personally have seen Rock v. Hogan a TON of times, oddly enough.  Other contenders would be Savage v. Steamboat, Raven/Richards v. Pitbulls, the entire Barely Legal and N2R95 shows (dubbing those over and OVER for tape trades) and indeed Warrior v. Hogan.

Comments

  1. Luger, I think, was another guy WCW poached because they COULD, not because they had an actual use for him.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I've seen The Rockers vs The Twin Towers from Mania V an infinite amount of times. Easily my favorite non title tag match to open a Mania ever.

    ReplyDelete
  3. "and indeed Warrior v. Hogan"

How are you NOT in an insane asylum after repeatedly watching that..... oh you're probably not referring to their WCW bout are you?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I would think Hogan-Andre from Mania III would be up there too, from a fan and a mainstream perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  5. How about Razor/Michaels at Mania X? Watched tons of times afterward and especially now as the pioneer of modern ladder bouts.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Foley-Shawn at Mind Games has to be up there too.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It's a good match. Could do without hogan kicking out at the end but that's just being picky.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ditto. Seen it a ton and still love it. Same as the ss match.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Orient Express v Rockets, RR91
The Women's match at the 1st or 2nd SurSer
    Bret v Perfect, SumSlam91
    The 92 Rumble
    Bret v Austin, WM13

  10. I usually default to the wm 25 hbk ut match. Still amazed he didn't break his neck trying the plancha. Cringe each time I see it

    ReplyDelete
  11. Mick Foley matches are highly rewatchable. The ONS stand shows I've seen a bunch. Manias 6-9 I've probably seen the most though.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Benoit/HHH/HBK from WMXX was on it's way there until...you know.

I probably saw that match about 50-60 times. It was the first thing I checked for on the network to make sure it was still intact.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I always liked that match. A perfect david vs goliath tag match.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Luger's value at that point was just existing and he accomplished that while in WCW at the time. It was a win-win for both sides.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Just a really fun bout. I often find myself just turning it on from time to time. Like eating home cooking or snuggling up with an old blanket on a cool day. It just feels comfortable and safe.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I loved it when akeem closelined the fuck outta shawn. Ventura: "I think he irritated akeem"

    ReplyDelete
  17. Tully - Magnum, Rumble 92, and a personal fave, the cruiserweight battle royal and subsequent Jericho - Malenko fight.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Technically I'd guess the Hogan/iron Sheik match was the most watched since almost all of it ran at the beginning of Championship Wrestling all those years.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Probably my favorite pre hbk Shawn Michaels match ever.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Very obscure one for me, Doink vs the Big Bossman. I had it taped, and for some reason, basically watched it every day after school for almost the entire year. Great little 5 minute match.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wonder if Bill feels any responsibility for playing a part in those three deaths.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hart-Austin from Survivor Series 1996, for some reason

    ReplyDelete
  23. "Retirement" during the grading period takes you off the list.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And the reason would be that it kicks ass and is one of the best matches ever. Seen that multiple times too.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The wm 17 match is wildly overrated in my opinion. It's fine and all but they overbooked the shit out of it. Never understood why everyone seems to like it so much.

    ReplyDelete
  26. In 1994 he was #2 based on his one match with Ric Flair so this was an improvement...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've seen HHH-Rock from Backlash 2000 a bunch
Plus, HHH-Jericho from April 2000, Benoit, HHH, HBK from WM20
Also not really a match but I've seen the Stephanie/Test wedding segment a bunch too, one of the best swerves in wrestling history

    ReplyDelete
  28. because its the mother fucking Rock vs mother fucking Austin at the absolute peak of their powers with so many callbacks to old matches and it just outright rules. Then it all went to hell with the ending.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The finish has kept me from watching. It's such a downer that I can't be bothered at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Guilty Pleasure: I've watched 3 minute warning Billy and Chuck wedding angle a few too many times. God they pulled that off well.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 3 HHH matches, and a segment where HHH drops a bombshell. HHH rules. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Slightly off topic....how great was the angle where they made it look like Sting turned. I was barley on the internet then. Fake sting was pretty useless, but the angle in the parking lot was a legit omg moment for me. I can't believe it's not in the top 50, in the new dvd set.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd say either Hogan vs Andre from The Main Event or Lou Thesz vs Rikidozan.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Undertaker. Foley. Hell in A Cell. King of the Ring '98.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Savage-Flair from WM8
    HHH-Jericho from Fully Loaded 2000
    Mankind-Shawn from Mind Games

    Shawn-Angle from WM21
    Misawa-Kobashi from NOAH in 2003

    ReplyDelete
  36. As a kid I watched Best of the WWF Vol. 5 a legit 60 times, at least.. I was watching the Steamboat/Muraco match with someone recently, and still knew the commentary word-for-word after all these years, like a movie or a song that you've heard 100 times..

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mania III was PPV. The Main Event was free TV. Way more people watched the latter.

    ReplyDelete
  38. He also did more in his WCW run than his NWA one, winning the World, US, TV, and Tag titles from 1996-1999. I think the others to do so were DDP and Sting( even though Sting's TV title was NWA)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Of course we are referring to Hogan-Warrior at Halloween Havoc, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I liked that part. Warrior beat him, but only just enough to get the three count. Wish we would se that finish more often.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Literally infinite? Congratulations on becoming immortal.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Of course. The night Horace Hogan became a megastar.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The 1992 Royal Rumble match

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Nitro leading up to it where the Disciple turned around and revealed an oWn logo on his jacket as the show went off the air= most underwhelming moment in wrestling history

    ReplyDelete
  45. HBK-Taker, the first Hell in a Cell. Because we were certified wrestling nerds, my brother and I would watch that while eating dinner a couple of times a week and before nearly every Raw for a good 4-5 months. We basically watched it so much that we nearly created an alternate universe while BS'ing and posing hypothetical scenarios of what could have happened at different points of the match.

That match, HBK-Razor II, and Austin-Hart from WM13 have likely taken days from my life when their viewings are added all together. But hey, at least I can recite the commentary almost word for word in those matches. Totally worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Many people think that kind of finish weakens both guys. The guy being pinned still loses, but the winner was only good enough to barely win. Yet, it would add drama and be more realistic, one would think.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 100%.

Talk about "wearing out the tape", I don't think there's another match in history that had people rewinding and replaying like that one.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 27, 2014 at 10:04 PM

For a guy that Bischoff said he didn't want, Luger was ALL OVER Nitro. Tag champs with Sting, TV Title, world title shots, main events on Nitro. Huge feud with Savage.

    ReplyDelete
  49. HBK Razor Ladder Match 2 has always fascinated me. It doesn't have the pacing of the first one but is just as good in many ways. And that first hell in the cell is the bomb. I also like how Hart-Austin at 13 is a total 180 of a match compared to Survivor Series 1996

    ReplyDelete
  50. Shawn/Razor I, Shawn/Jarrett, the BATB 96 main, and the first HITC. I've also seen all the segments leading up to the nWo forming and Waltman's promo when he returned to Raw that I can quote them word-for-word from memory.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It was even funnier when sarge did it to hogan a year later. Where the heck did he get off kicking out of a finish?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Good call. Waltmans promo I've seen a ton. It's quick and just kicks all kinda if ass. Same with hall showing up on nitro. Waltmans promo is very underrated. Great moment

    ReplyDelete
  53. HBK-Taker will always be pretty special to me. The news of Pillman's passing came during the pre-show, and the guy was my favorite wrestler (and my current avatar). But for a half hour, Taker and Shawn made me forget all about it. To that point, I had never seen a table bump that big (I hadn't seen much ECW), a mid-air blade job (still legendary), and a nasty chair shot from Taker to Shawn's head. It was absolutely vicious, but Shawn was in top form and added an element of grace to that match.

And I'm still waiting for a marquee match to begin like Hart-Austin. I'm not sure if Rollins-Ambrose qualifies. Anyway, it seems like every month, Cena talks about how important or personal a match is but then begins matches by circling around, smirking, and going for a collar-elbow tie up.

    ReplyDelete
  54. For all the crap fans give Waltman for X-Pac Heat, that promo pretty much signaled WWF as the "cool" promotion to follow during that time.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Bret/Perfect KOTR '93 by far.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I've heard of wrestlers failing Wellness but I've never heard of a wrestler's name failing Wellness.

    ReplyDelete
  57. "Look at the adjective"

    ReplyDelete
  58. For me? Styles/Daniels/Joe, Unbreakable.

Also AJ Lee/Naomi on NXT, just because it is a legitimately good match and the first glimpse into the true potential of AJ (she could already talk and already had a good gimmick, and she could also wrestle?) and a match so good it managed to shut up Michael Cole at his absolutely worst.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Tito Santana vs barbarian from wm6. Don't ask me why but that ppv was my first wrestling videotape and I watched it over and over until my dad taped over it with something shitty.

Still haven't forgiven that old bastard for it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. A recent one for me is constant youtube rewatching of the segment where Daniel Bryan turns on the Wyatt family in the steel cage. A great wrestling moment with a jacked crowd...truly something special.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think I saw Diesel beat Bob Backlund for the WWF Championship 20 times over the course of two weeks because THEY WOULDN'T STOP REPLAYING IT.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Everything between Sting and Luger was erased when Lex turned face in the Doomsday Cage. Frankly, I'm betting there was no plan for a feud between the two and it was just meant to put heat on Hogan's program. Because ALL THINGS IN MID-90S WCW REVOLVE AROUND HOGAN.

    ReplyDelete
  63. "We didn't come here to play"

    ReplyDelete
  64. still one of the better rubber mask I've seen

    ReplyDelete
  65. but without that ending we never get Kurt singing "Jimmy Cracked Corn" or him with the little cowboy hat and badge.

    ReplyDelete
  66. It was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime moment that will never be replicated.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Man that first one you listed there is 'what wrestling is all about'.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Flair/Wyndham vs. Eddie Gilbert/Mystery partner on TBS. Steamboat coming out and absolutely destroying Flair and pinning him was just tremendous. Flair vs. Wyndham match that took the whole televised hour rated multiple viewings. Dynamite's top rope drop kick as Volkoff finished the anthem at the Wrestling Classic was, uh...well, classic...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Psychosis vs. Mysterio at BATB 96 used to be my favorite

    ReplyDelete
  70. Anytime I watch a match with a nonfan its austin hart wm13 or rock undertaker angle vengeance 02 just cuz of the nonstop action

    ReplyDelete
  71. Long time. Whew. I was working from a couple of scans of the alphabetical listing pages, so I had to type them out and THEN put them in order, THEN figure out which ones were misnumbered on the alphabetical listing. Wait, Mojo Rawley is #17?!?...okay, Nakamura's also #17, so going by missing numbers, Mojo would be #170...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ppl talk about Rey mysterio being the best little man ever but xpac (especially from a kayfabe standpoint) is very arguably the second best

    ReplyDelete
  73. I never got into the wm12 iron man match cuz the first half was so boring. But I actually gave it a shot last nite on my history of the wwe championship dvd and damn the last 30 minutes sure makes up for it. It was the first time I actually paid attention all the way through and it was awesome. And it was also my first ppv to watch

    ReplyDelete
  74. Notice how we aren't really answering Ed's question? Scott dutifully answered his question after sharing his own pick. We ( myself included) are just offering our personal favorites. Why stick to someone else's point when I can make this about me? So Ed, if that's really your name, I'll give my answer to your query by throwing out Undertaker vs. Mankind Cell match...

    ReplyDelete
  75. I only had a few ppvs recorded as a kid so I wound up watching certain matches over and over.

The Survivor Series match from 1994 where Diesel turns on Shawn.

    Bret vs Bulldog Summerslam 92.

Bam Bam vs LT from Mania 11.

The Japanese women's tag match from World War 3 1995 and the battle royal from that show.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well, that's no fun but here's the most watched matches in general since they're ona million different dvd releases.

    Shawn vs Razor mania 10
    Taker vs Foley Cell
    Savage vs Steamboat
    Hogan vs Andre
    Hogan vs Warrior

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah, James Guttman worked there for awhile too. I remember checking out his World Wrestling Insanity website in 2005 and being surprised to discover he's a real person, I figured it was another madeup Stu Saks name. Stu wasn't quite as creative as Bill Apter in the fictitious writer department.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Sticking to the point is way less fun than creating idiosyncratic alternatives. Learned that shit in Russo 101, yo...

    ReplyDelete
  79. Pretty much every trip through the WWE Library ends up at Mania 25 and Taker/HBK

    ReplyDelete
  80. Who was the better fake Sting: Jeff Farmer or Barry Windham?

    ReplyDelete
  81. For me, it's Foley and 'Taker in the Cell. I have that match on four or five different DVDs alone.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Personally it's Benoit vs. Angle, Royal Rumble 2003. I was a giant mark for both guys for years - as was everyone else - and although I haven't watched it in years it probably holds up just as well, if not even stronger now. Scott had it at ****3/4 but everything about it is airtight and in my mind, on that night, both guys shot past the old guard of Bret and HBK (although he would surpass our expectations of him) and became the two new greats in mainstream wrestling.

Also, kind of like Austin/Hart... but not really... the heel beats the face fair and square, yet the face comes off looking better than before as the crowd gives Benoit a standing ovation. Also, they took the crowd that had been killed by HHH/Steiner and brought them up to going mad by the end of the match.

Also in this day and age of 16 German Suplexes being a shitload, they traded God-knows-how-many which includes about a dozen or so from Benoit, including one where Angle landed on his face and stomach. Unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Mine are Shawn-Trips from SummerSlam, WrestleMania 20 Main Event, and Angle-Benoit vs. Edge/Mysterio No Mercy 2002.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Hold that 10 for Johnny B. BadSeptember 28, 2014 at 2:18 AM

For me, Bret vs Owen from WM 10, Jericho vs Michaels from WM 19, Cena vs HHH from WM 22, Jericho vs Storm from ONS 05, Hogan vs Andre from WM 3, Punk vs Cena from MITB, Rock vs Cena from WM 29, and Punk vs Cena from the build to WM 29.

    ReplyDelete
  85. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomerySeptember 28, 2014 at 2:46 AM

Ditto, that's probably mine with Foley/Taker HIAC in second.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Uh AJ can't talk. She cuts some of the worst promos of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  87. You have to admit, that rolls off the tongue nicer than "Look at the verb"

    ReplyDelete
  88. He did go full face, but I think around April/May there was still concern about "where his head was at" and stuff. I remember him failing to turn up for a title match and Sting getting all mad at him.

    ReplyDelete
  89. No room on the ballot for Jeff Jarrett?!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I've seen Summerslam 1991 about a thousand times, because it was one of the few videos I had as a kid. I don't need to ever see it again, I'm sure I could play the entire show in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Well, no offense to the questioner, but "What do you think other people like?" is a much harder question to answer properly than "What do YOU like?".

    ReplyDelete
  92. Never even heard of that one.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Personally? Bret/Owen from X and Orients/New Foundation from Rumble 92. Not because the tag match is great(it's good, don't get me wrong), but because any time I throw in Rumble 92, I don't zone out on that match.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I don't think she's good but I think that's a big exaggeration. Nearly every other Diva is even worse. I'd take AJs over the Bellas.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Since WWE has already been covered in the comments and I was always more of a WCW fan:

    Sting-Vader (Starrcade '92)
    Flair-Vader (Starrcade '93)
    Outsiders-Sting/Savage (Bash '96 - for obvious reasons)
Luger-Hogan (Nitro '97 - when Luger wins the title and the crowd goes apeshit)
    Goldberg-Hogan (Nitro '98 - see above)
    DDP-Goldberg (Halloween Havoc '98)
DDP-Sting (Nitro '99 - wasn't seen by enough people but I've watched it at least a dozen times)

    ReplyDelete
  96. doesn't Barbarian nearly decapitate him with that top rope clothesline?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart - Submission match is my go-to
Shane McMahon vs. Kurt Angle, they could never do something like that today
Demolition vs. Colossal Connection - biggest pop I've ever heard for a tag team title match
Sting vs. CactusJack - Love this match
Razor vs. Diesel - Summerslam 94
    Austin/Pillman vs. Flair/Arn - classic stuff.
    Dangerous Alliance War Games

    ReplyDelete
  98. Its great because both matches, SS and WM, were awesome but so different. WM13 is when I became an Austin believer. Back then I would have a hard time sometimes believe in a guy who I saw from WCW as something completely different.

    ReplyDelete
  99. The end game was they were best friends. Even did a little heel run together sometime in 1999 or 2000 right?

    ReplyDelete
  100. They did in 1999. But in 2000 they were back feuding. Luger was breaking all the arms! Sting wouldn't stand for that shit. Lumberjack Cast Match at Uncensored!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Same here. Love re watching the 92 Rumble. The absolute best.

    ReplyDelete
  102. HBK vs Jericho at Wrestlemania 19 and the Bret vs HBK Iron Man match stand out for me. Absolute must-see matches for anyone around the 5"10-6ft mark that has aspirations of becoming a pro wrestler.

    ReplyDelete
  103. He did it in TNA, of course you've never heard about that one. Few have,

    ReplyDelete
  104. "X-Pac Heat" really wasn't anything until X-Factor, IIRC. He was fine (or better) as 1-2-3, Syxx, X-Pac in DX, again at least in my memory.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I've watched it a hundred times and it still never gets old.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I hated Austin turning heel, but I loved the finish of the match itself. It's no DQ, and Austin has a chair, so he just hits Rock with like 16 chairshots. Seems like the smart move to me.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hart vs Austin from Survivor Series I've seen dozens of times, particularly since the Network became a thing. In fact, I've seen that whole card quite a bit. Also, HBK-Taker from Bad Blood and most of HHH's 2000 run. HHH was absolutely awesome at his best.

For WCW stuff, I've Sting and Luger vs The Steiners a bunch, as well as basically all of the Dangerous Alliance era.

    ReplyDelete
  108. An article about the author's run in with Rick Rude at a bar, how Rude was down about himself and thought he wasn't a good role model, how he was deciding to change his ways. There were like ten paragraphs of Rude thinking that the children of this world just didn't have someone to look up to anymore, and then a pretty girl walked into the bar and Rude perked up, said to forget everything that was just said, and (after a short conversation with her) walked out of the bar with his new conquest.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Bischoff is full of shit. He welcomed EVERYONE into his WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I always loved the Fantasy Tournaments, where they'd claim that their brand new high-tech computer program would actually simulate the matches to give a better feel of how said matches would go. One that really stood out to me was a Razor Ramon vs. Rey Misterio, Jr. match that featured Razor suffering a hairline fracture in his shin that allowed Rey to go on to victory.

There was also a great write-up on Doink's past, how his father (also a clown) turned to alcohol after realizing that he'd never be as famous as Bozo. Sounds silly, but it was very dark and depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  111. HowmuchdoesthisguyweighSeptember 28, 2014 at 7:54 AM

I had wrestlemania 12 and KOTR 1996 on a 6 hour DVD. Watched that on a loop. Also survivor series 1996 would be on my list. I've watched punk vs Cena from MITB at least ten plus times in the 3 years since it happened.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Herc vs Billy Jack is up there.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Summerslam 98 and Foley's KOTR come to mind right off.

Probably seen X-7 more times than would be considered healthy.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hogan's first world title win. I'm betting that, or Hogan-Andre, is the match the most fans have seen multiple times.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Can't say as far as the entirety of the global fandom goes, but I know for me personally that it would probably be a lot of obscure matches from old Coliseum Videos that I used to rent ad nauseum when I was a kid. I've probably seen Curt Hennig vs. Ronnie Garvin more times than any sane person should, along with the staples like Hogan/Warrior, Hogan/Andre, Steamboat/Savage, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Oh shit, yeah. That's definitely the one I've watched more than anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Well YEAH. What other match did they have?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Shawn vs. Undertaker in the first Hell in the Cell. I can practically recite the commentary I've watched it so many times.

    ReplyDelete
  119. No particular order:

    WM13: Bret vs. Austin
    WM6: Hogan vs. Warrior
    WM3: Hogan vs. Andre
    WM5: Hogan vs. Macho
    KOTR98: Undertaker vs. Mankind
    Nitro 98: Goldberg vs. Hogan
BATB 96: Outsiders vs. Sting, Luger and Macho

Also, I'm trying to think of RAW and Nitro matches that hit huge ratings during their peaks. They may not be ones people have seen a million times, but they would be ones a LOT of people would have seen being on free TV and everything.

    ReplyDelete
  120. The DDP-Sting match I have watched a lot too, I was there for it and I'm glad it gets some lovin these days

    ReplyDelete
  121. Just because she has a different delivery doesn't mean it's not effective. The more credible wrestling journalists and columnists usually credit her with being good or even great (by Divas standards) on the mic. Other than Renee and Stephanie, there's no other woman on the roster who can touch AJ in terms of getting a point across with style.

    ReplyDelete
  122. My first vhs tape was fall brawl 98, so raven and saturn from that show got watched a lot too.

    ReplyDelete
  123. "This is where the big boys play, huh? Look at the adjective: big....well Razo....errr this guy and myself are also very big"

    ReplyDelete
  124. I've watched Bryan Danielson vs. Paul London from Epic Encounter quite a few times. Dare I call it the indie version of Flair vs. Steamboat?

    ReplyDelete
  125. No, you shouldn't. However, I'd venture to say that it is the singles match version of Hillbilly Jim's team vs. King Kong Bundy's team. I find it particularly funny that Macho put so much effort and pressure on himself and Steamboat in scripting their match to upstage Hillbilly. Unfortunately for him, whenever someone mentions Wrestlemania 3, all anyone can think of is the mixed 6-man tag match that shocked the world and ended with Jim's hand being raised in victory.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Can't say I've seen a ton of Sgt. Slaughter matches, but doesn't he always kick out right after the three count? He also did that at SummerSlam 91 when pinned, iirc.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Raven/Stevie vs The Pitbullls

    Shibata/Ishii

    WM XX Main event

    Jericho vs Benoit series.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I think that we all found out after WM3, quite emphatically, that one does not go messing around with a country boy.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I'll guess Warrior-Honky Tonk Man SS 88

    ReplyDelete
  130. Yeah, it was like a shot to the gut.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I consider it a swerve that Luger never turned on Sting though out that entire angle (until 99-00, whatever that was). As the fans, we thought there was no way a heel and face could co-exist and that it was only a matter of time before Sting got the ol' knife in the back again, but Luger not only stuck it out with Sting, but actually chose Sting over his manager, as it was played up that Hart interfering in Sting's match against the Giant began the tension that led to Luger's full face turn in the Doomsday cage.
I doubt this was planned, but it couldn't have worked out better because it fueled Sting's sense of betrayal when Luger doubted him about NWO Sting. Sure, Flair and Anderson were going to doubt him, but Luger, Sting's best friend, believing he had gone NWO was the last straw which drove the man to the rafters.

  132. Bob Uecker was so impressed, he picked Hillbilly Jim to win the Battle Royal at Wrestlemania IV, which is sort of like picking the Brewers to win the World Series.

  133. Hell, Kevin Sullivan's pretty much said that Hogan was still undecided up to the day of the show.

  135. I lost count of how many times I saw Austin-Hart at WM 13, Austin-HBK at 14, TLC matches and any Shawn-Taker match.

  142. Part-time MMA fighter and former amateur wrestler Bobby Lashley who just recently came back and got the belt pretty quickly. So basically WWE is copying TNA with the Brock angle.

Shane Haste and Mikey Nichols are from TMDK and held the GHC Tag Team Championship after beating Takeshi Morishima & Takeshi Rikio. They held it for 202 days.
